Putting up with joint pain is not
the healthy option
As we get older we all complain
about ‘creaking’ joints and the
inability to do things we could
do ‘when we were young.’
But there are things we can do to
keep our joints healthy and in good
However, if a joint, such as a knee or
hip, is no longer operating properly
replacement is sometimes the best
Mr Ashvin Pimpalnerkar, a Consultant
Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Little
Aston Hospital, says that many people
think you have to be ‘of a certain age’
before they contemplate a joint
“The age to have surgery is when the
pain caused by the knee or hip is
affecting your quality of life. For some
people that might mean when they are
in their eighties but for others, it can
be much, much younger.
“In fact, delaying surgery can
sometimes cause added problems as
people change their walking style to
accommodate the pain from the joint
and then put extra pressure on other
Here, Mr Pimpalnerkar answers
some often-asked questions about
joint health and joint surgery
Joint pain can be increasingly
common when we age but at what
stage should we be thinking about
visiting a GP?
Pain is the way your body tells you
that something is wrong. The problem
is too many people ignore the
warnings and ‘battle through’ - either
with the help of painkillers or by sheer
grit! Either way, they are not doing
themselves any favours.
It may be that the pain can be
managed or that a course of
physiotherapy is needed but the
important thing is to get it checked
out, first by your GP and then with a
scan or X-ray. Putting up with pain just
isn’t a sensible option.
What might happen if you do
simply ‘grin and bear it’?
As we get older our joints do get stiffer
– that’s just a fact of life. However,
putting off getting treatment will only
make matters worse and could have a
detrimental effect on other joints.
For example, if you’re limping
because of a pain in your knee, this
usually means you are putting
pressure on other joints including your
hip or spine as you change the way
Limping changes the way you walk
and so forces other joints to operate in
a way they have not been used to.
This might be acceptable for a shortterm
injury but if you do it over a long
time it will affect other parts of your
How can failure to get treatment
effect general health?
If you don’t get treatment then it could
progress until walking is just too
painful and so you find yourself trying
to avoid exercise of any kind.
Your heart and lungs need exercise in
order to function properly and you
may also find that you put on weight
because of your lack of activity.
A new hip or knee really can give you
a new lease of life. Suddenly walking
becomes not only an option but
actually an enjoyable option.
These days joint replacement surgery
has a fantastic success rate and
people really can get back to doing
the things they loved. I know people in
their 50s and 60s who gave up golf or
tennis because of joint pain but are
now back in action following

patients not to let aching joints dictate
your lifestyle when so many treatment

Speaking to Ms KilburnWilson, leading ophthalmologist and

“There is technology out there, all we have to do is accept

F: Eurasia Tandoori Restaurant
It was our first meal out since lockdown and My
partner Mike was desperate for a good curry, so
after hearing great reviews we opted for the
award-winning Eurasia Tandoori Restaurant in
Bridgnorth, and by the end of the evening it was
truly clear why it was award winning!
Greeted by very friendly staff, we were shown to our
table, handed menus, and offered drinks and
poppadom’s. Eurasia is fully licensed with some great
beers on offer including wine by the glass or bottle.
The poppadom’s arrived with 5 different chutneys and
sauces, including the gorgeous onion salad. We were
off to a great start. As we sat munching away, we
started to look through the starters there was the usual
on offer but also some dishes neither of us had heard of
before, there was also plenty of choice with a meat
section and a vegetarian and seafood section.
With tikka pakora being my all-time favourite starter, I
had to order this, however we also toyed between the
kasli pitta and the Mirpuri malai, both dishes were new
to us and sounded amazing and with it being our first
dinner date out in a long time, we opted for all three.
All dishes looked fab however the Mirpuri malai looked
spectacular, so Ill start with this. A layer of potato fritter
topped with sliced chicken tikka, cooked in a pickle
and pineapple chunky sauce, topped with another
potato fritter, more chicken and chutney and another
potato fritter. To say this was a taste explosion is an
understatement. The juicy chutney combined with
pineapple, chicken tikka and potato fritter was a pure
delight, so many flavours and textures it was incredible, I
would go back to Eurasia for this dish alone, highly
Next the chicken pakora, I’m
confident enough to say I have
tasted enough pakoras to be a
critic and I can very often be let
down with it being more like a
chicken nugget that a proper
pakora, thankfully this was not the
case here! The chicken had been
spiced perfectly, deep fried and
then coated with chickpeas flour
and deep fried again – exactly how
it should be cooked, a great starter
with the wedge of lemon, fresh
salad and mint yoghurt.
Next to try was the kasli pitta, which
I can only really describe as a luxury
samosa. Chicken and potato with
onions and spices all wrapped up in
crispy pastry, apparently it is a very
traditional Sylheti dish with of course
Eurasia adding its own twist. Really
tasty and a good combination of
Out of our three starters, we
enjoyed them all, but I really can’t
recommend the Mirpuri malai
enough, a must try.
On to mains. Again, so many new
choices to chose from, I’ve never
seen such a new and adventurous
curry house menu, it was fantastic.
Our waiter had highly
recommended the lamb sherpuri,
so that was first added to the list
and then I noticed the Tawa dishes,
so the chicken tikka variation was
added too, and we also opted for
the shahi chicken. Knowing we
could take leftovers home to enjoy
the next day we thought it was
great to try the three mains, with a
pilau rice, special naan and a saag
aloo added as sides.
Everything just looked a pure
delight, a feast of flavours, where
do we start? The lamb sherpuri is an
award-winning dish in itself, so felt it
best to start here. I will often avoid
lamb in a curry as it can be too
tough, but this was succulent, juicy
and cooked to perfection in the
most fabulous sauce. A good
amount of spice with fenugreek
and ginger, but what made this
dish so special was the crunchy
garlic pickle, wow, this was a totally
new flavour to me and it was
spectacular, just so many zesty
flavours in one, with the juicy lamb
and sauce it was clear why this was
an award winning dish I very highly
recommend this, just so different
and delicious, with a good medium
spice to it.
So next to try was the Tawa dish,
which I’m sure not many of you
have heard of either. A semi-dry
unique dish, a choice of chicken
tikka, king prawn or vegetable
cooked with capsicum, onions,
fresh herbs and garnished with
cheddar cheese served on a
sizzling cast iron Tawa plate. The
cheese is placed first so it melts and
almost slightly burns, then the
chosen topping on top, it is then
placed on a plate and the cheese
peeled off. It was amazing! The dish
itself mainly consisted of chicken
tikka and onions and eaten with
the cheese was superb, I really
enjoyed this dish, and so did Mike
although claimed the lamb was his
clear favourite. Again, another
unique and deliciously tasty dish
that I would recommend.
Onto the third dish, the shahi
chicken, a very meaty and mild
dish, perfect for those not keen on
spice, but also not creamy and
coconutty like a korma, which can
often be too much. Whole pieces
of chicken breast filled with spicy
minced meat, peas and potato in
a delicious mild sauce. Compared
to the other two dishes this was a bit
too mild for me, but if you like a
mild and meaty curry this is the
perfect dish for you.
The meat was succulent in all
dishes, starters and mains and very
obvious everything is cooked fresh
with high quality ingredients. We
couldn’t fault anything and there
really is something for everyone’s
The side dishes also deserve a big
mention, so the special naan was
stuffed with tikka, saag, cheese,
keema, green chilli and garlic and
looked really good, Mike, a spice
lover, loved it, I did feel it was too
spicy for me, so this is definitely the
naan bread if you like a kick or I
would recommend you stick to
another of the great naans on
offer. The rice was perfect, and
when I say I saved the best to last, I
really did, well that’s as long as you
like saag aloo – which I really do!
Arriving in a traditional metal dish I
was a little surprised to see the saag
aloo with no sauce, just potatoes,
spinach and spices. Just when I
thought I was going to be
disappointed, I literally tasted the
best saag aloo Ive ever tasted, in
fact my mouth is watering now just
thinking about it! The potatoes were
so soft and buttery and the juicy
spinach bursting with flavour, this
was a very luscious dish that I
wasn’t prepared to share with Mike.
We were wowed by every dish,
there really was nothing we didn’t
enjoy or lacked a wow factor, each
dish with its own unique flair. We
finished off with some mint choc
chip ice-cream and left wanting to
tell the world how good Eurasia
really is. We will definitely be back!

Chatsworth is high on the ‘to do’ list, when visiting country houses in England. Renowned as being one of
the finest country estates to visit in the UK, Chatsworth House, with its 105 acre garden attracts many
visitors, from global origins, throughout the year.
Chatsworth House is the seat of the Duke of Devonshire and this stately residence has been home to the
Cavendish family since 1549. Located on the east bank of the River Derwent, in Derbyshire’s Peak
District, close to Chesterfield and Bakewell, the magnificent property is surrounded by stunning views
With the House (25-plus rooms to explore, including regal State Rooms) and Gardens, Events, the Estate’
Farm Shop, plus Farmyard, Playground and much more, there is certainly something for all the family to
enjoy at Chatsworth. Very impressive Works of Art and Sculptures, for example, hold much interest for
Award-winning Peak Ales Brewery produces real ales and gained much interest from the outset. Located
on the Chatsworth Estate, the craft ales’ producer also offers Chatsworth Gin (40% vol). Following several
years of experimenting and development, this small batch gin utilises selected botanicals, from the
Chatsworth Estate, to produce this high-quality, classic, London Dry Gin. Botanicals used include
Chatsworth lemons, lemongrass, lemon verbena, plus banana leaf. The banana has an important and
very interesting role at Chatsworth and the Cavendish banana is well documented in Chatsworth’s
history. During the 1830’s, Joseph Paxton was head gardener to the 6th Duke of Devonshire and
introduced bananas to Chatsworth.
Chatsworth Gin exudes the crispness of excellent citrus flavours and, complemented with other infused
botanicals, along with banana leaf, makes for a production that is well-balanced, smooth and has great
pleasure for the mouthfeel and palate sensation.
Chatsworth Gin and Peak Ales are available at the Visitor Centre shop, as well
as online. Orders are processed, then dispatched quickly and efficiently.

IT’S A COLLECTOR’S WORLD

A Royal Mint 2009 UK Proof Coin Set, including a
Kew Gardens 50p sold for £350
The rarest coins to come up at auction are the 1933 penny
and the 1937 Edward VIII threepenny bit. Most often we sell
sovereigns and coin sets and to date, the market continues to
be buoyant. The coins that sell particularly well at auction are
uncirculated, which means they have never been used to
purchase anything. However, exceptions to this rule include
the undated 20p (that was the first coin issued for circulation
in over 300 years without a date on either side) which can go
for up to £100 and 1952 half crowns that can sell for
thousands of pounds. The great thing about collecting coins
is that they hold their value and are also extremely easy to
Commemorative coins are popular at auction and are often
the coins that people have been given over the years as gifts
from grandparents or older relatives. For the Coronation of
King Edward VII in 1902, the Royal Mint issued two different
proof coin sets, both of which are highly sought after by
collectors and can fetch tens of thousands of pounds in mint
Coins were introduced in Ancient Greece as a method of
payment around the 6th or 5th century and were made of
electrum which was an alloy of silver and gold. They weighed
approximately 8 grams, were thick and bean-shaped and
were stamped on one side to show their authenticity whilst
the other side was roughly impressed. Their value fluctuated
according to their gold and silver content.
In China, gold coins were first standardized during the Qin
dynasty (221-207 BCE) followed by silver coins and
"deerskin notes" which were introduced as currency.
There is so much history attached to coins. King John for
example was the first to give coins to the elderly in 1213,
referred to as Maundy Money and this was a practice
continued by his successors. The Maundy ceremony as we
know it today first took place in in the reign of Charles II in
1662 and takes place every Maundy Thursday.
A modern Royal Mint Diana Princess of Wales Gold Proof
Memorial £5 Coin, 1999, in box with certificate sold for £2,750
Since then, commemorative sets for significant occasions
and anniversaries such as Royal Weddings are highly sought
after. To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Kew Gardens a
limited edition 50p coin was issued. The Kew Gardens 50p is
rare to find and could make £200 at auction. The £5 Princess
Diana coin which was issued following her death can make
£5,000-7,000 in good condition.

comprising 1963, 1986, 1994 and 1998 gold sovereigns, in

UNLOCK YOUR POTENTIAL WITH PRIVATE CATARACT SURGERY
If, like many patients, you view the possibility of never having to wear glasses again as truly liberating, then you
should consider private cataract surgery. Privately, I can provide state-of-the-art premium multifocal, extended
depth of vision (EDoF), toric astigmatism–correcting and enhanced monofocal IOLs designed to give you much more
independence from glasses than the basic single vision lenses available through the NHS.
Your eyesight is precious, and you deserve the best range of vision that modern science can offer.
So, invest in your future with premium IOLs, and enjoy being able to read and use your computer or tablet with much
less dependence on annoying spectacles – something that perhaps you have not been able to do since your early 40s
single vision lens.

EYE FLOATERS - ARE YOU TROUBLED BY EYE FLOATERS?
Eye floaters are typically small pieces of debris that float in the eye’s vitreous humour. Often, they can also be caused
by sudden separation of the vitreous jelly from the back surface of the eye (posterior vitreous detachment), which is a
natural part of ageing). Most people find floaters minimally troublesome, but for some they can be a significant
source of irritation and may interfere with your quality of vision and life. Modern surgical techniques have made the
permanent treatment of eye floaters safer than ever. Mr Balaggan specialises in the permanent removal of
symptomatic troublesome eye floaters using the very latest micro-incision techniques, with the procedure being
performed in around 25 minutes as a day case patient. If you are over 45 years old and have suffered with eye floaters
for over 6 months then get in touch to arrange an assessment by Mr Balaggan. Do read the reviews from his former
floater patients on Trustpilot.

A guide to
Selfcare is not selfish We live in a society
that is quick to judge our actions as
selfish, to make us feel bad and guilty
about putting ourselves first but the
reality is that no one else can take care
of us better than we can take care of
No-one else, no matter how close we are to
them, knows how we truly feel inside, how
our body feels, how we are coping with the
stress of the world and what we need to
make us feel better. Only we truly know
what we need and sometimes even
determining that for ourselves can be
difficult, we need to take a moment of
quiet, to stop and listen to ourselves.
STRESS IS WHEN YOUR
MOUTH SAYS YES
BUT YOUR HEART
Self-love and care is not just an occasional
bubble bath or a new pair of shoes, real Self
Care is making a commitment to yourself
and putting your needs first. This is not
selfish! In Fact, it is the most unselfish thing
you can do! The better you feel the more
able you are to GIVE to everything and
everyone else!! If you don’t listen to yourself
and just keep going until you are exhausted
you may experience all kinds of negative
emotions, anger, resentment even
depression, and more commonly illness, as
your body will just create a situation to
make you stop and listen! When you board
an aircraft and listen to the Safety
Demonstration, they ALWAYS tell you that
you must put on your oxygen mask BEFORE
helping anyone else, why do you think this
is?? Because if you dont you will pass out
and not be able to help ANYONE.
We get so caught up the in the ‘rat race’,
Our jobs, our families, our commitments,
and responsibilities seem to consume us
and few of us really listen to ourselves. Even
when we do there is often an excuse at
hand. We are too busy at work, our kids
need our attention, we have too many
things on our ‘To Do’ list or my personal
favourite… we just can’t say NO!!
The reality is that we can all make some
time for some self-care, it is not a whimsical
ideal - it is an absolute NECESSITY!!! I think
this saying really sums up the trap we often
find ourselves in….
This is the same lesson; you cannot give
from any empty tank! So, if you need it I am
now giving you full permission to look after
yourself, to take some timeout and to put
yourself first! Be kind, be compassionate, be
empathic but make you do all of this for
YOURSELF as well as other people!
Is Not Selfish!
I treat so many people that are
overwhelmed, over tired and energetically,
emotionally, and physically exhausted yet
they still find it so hard to make time for
themselves or take proper care of themself
because they feel some kind of duty to
everyone else or guilt for putting themselves
This is trauma response. If you keep going in
this state, you will become sick. Our body
develops illness when it is trying to
communicate something to us, but we are
refusing to listen. Rest is such an important
part of taking care of our body and our
mind. Rest is how we process and release
emotions and triggers…. So, they do not
turn to illness or distress. Many people are
currently living in a permanent state of
‘fight or flight’.
This happens when we are experiencing
prolonged periods of stress or anxiety. It is
our survival instinct firing into action so that
we are ready to deal with the imminent
danger. The problem with modern life is
that we are so often in this adrenaline state
that our body no longer knows the
difference between ‘real’ threat and the
threats we imagine and run in our minds
when we are anxious. It is caused by our
Autonomic Nervous System (or ANS). That is
our survival instinct system and every 4
seconds it scans our internal and external
environment to check if we are safe. If it
perceives any threats (real or imagined) it
fires our ‘fight or flight’ response. This in turn
creates physical changes in the body, it
causes our hearing to alter and perceive
different frequencies, our vision changes
causing our peripheral vision to narrow.
Our body is flooded with adrenaline and
cortisol so we can react quicker to the
danger. Living in this state for too long can
cause adrenal fatigue and problems with
the organs, it can have many physical
effects on our system and cause us to
overreact, get over-emotional and feel we
are unable to cope.
So how do we help ourselves? Well, the only
thing within our body that has the power to
reset the Autonomic Nervous System is the
breath. Deep, slow breaths can reset the
‘fight or flight’ response, especially the
exhale breath. Taking long, slow deep
breaths can really help us to reconnect
back in with our bodily systems and
communicate to our body that all is well.
Anxiety Breathing is when we breathe in
deeply for the count of 4, hold our breath
for the count of 7, and very slowly exhale
for the count of 8. Done for several minutes
with focused attention, this can quickly slow
the ANS and return our body (and our
mind) to the feeling of safety. It may feel
strange at first and it may take a few
practice breaths but if you persevere this
deep breathing technique can really help
with all forms of anxiety.
Panic / anxiety attack
1.Breath in for 4 seconds
2.Hold your breath for 7 seconds
3.Exhale breath for 8 seconds

voice to be your main focus and just listen,
with no pressure, no expectation, just allow
their voice to carry you away.
This is the main point of meditation. To stop
that busy monkey mind and all the
overthinking. So, stop thinking about it and
just listen and lie there. Dont worry if you fall
asleep or if it takes you a while to relax… just
give yourself permission to just lie there and
see what happens.
Like everything these things take practice!
You wouldn’t expect to go to the gym once
and then be able to run a marathon. Your
body needs to get used to doing new things
before they feel comfortable.
Meditation is also very helpful and again has
physical benefits to the body, mind and soul.
It is not just sitting cross legged chanting OM.
When the brain is monitored both before
and after meditation real physical changes
can be measured. The brain following
meditation naturally produces more calming
hormones and happy chemicals and also it
helps that ANS reset into a feeling of safety.
Combining meditation and breath can really
make a difference to anxiety disorders and
all mental health issues. I have personally
seen people greatly improve their wellbeing
simply by adding a little meditation and
breathwork into their daily routine.
So, stick with it… even if it isn’t great the first
time you will get much better at it and
probably very quickly and you will really start
to see and feel the benefits.
IF YOU LISTEN WHEN

My top tip is to listen to a guided meditation
(there are many great ones on YouTube or
other apps), find one with a voice you like (I
often hear how the voices are annoying).
Then simply lie down in a quiet place, put
your headphones in and listen to the voice.

The Man Cave!
As the sun shines and the Olympics kicks in,
your man will want to escape to his "Private
area" and take in the full extent of all the
sporting events taking place this summer
without being interrupted by trivial problems
such as, "The house is burning down!!".
The "Man Cave" (Or shed as it is better known), is
that area where "your man" will escape to, to
contemplate important decisions in life such as,
"Have I got enough rawplugs in my tool box, and
come to think of it do I need a bigger Toolbox?"
Recently the "Man Cave" has moved on from Friday
Night Dinners, Martin Goodmans shed where he
would escape to look at his rocks or his 20 year old
tinned meat, (If you haven't seen it then watch it,
brilliant comedy!) to state of the art places where
you could quite easily live for the rest of your life.
Instead of a wooden shed, you now have places
where you can watch your footie, have your
draught beer and a fridge for your tinnies and now
they are so good, the wife wants to spend time in
there discussing such important issues such as who
should partner Harry Kane up front for England or
explaining the offside rule, (Well maybe not the
offside rule, somethings should never be discussed)
So what are the essentials for the 21st Century's man
cave? Well depending on the size of the
aforementioned property, you need Beer,
preferably Draught Beer, but if not a well stocked
Fridge, State of the art TV to watch the Footie, Pool
Table, Dart board, comfortable chairs as you will
spending a lot of time in there, avoiding all those DIY
job's that wifey had planned for you and most
importantly, depending on the time of the year
space for the World Cup/ Euros/ Olympics/ British &
Irish Lions wall chart so you can plan your viewing.
Once you have your Man Cave planned and
stocked with your ESSENTIAL items you can sit back
and take stock of your life knowing that it just
doesn't get any better than this, well that's until you
get a knock on the "Shed" door and wifey's telling
you that those shelves aren't going to put
themselves up or the toilet is STILL leaking!! Ahh well
we can but dream!!

Senior School Investment and
New Fee Structure
Birchfield School near Albrighton is looking forward to an
exciting 2021 academic year as the development of their
already impressive facilities is well underway, following a
massive investment programme that will extend their
senior school provision up to age 16.
The school recently joined the St Philips Education
Group, a move that led to the expansion of the senior
school up to the age of 16 at Birchfield as part of a
£500,000 investment. Birchfield is currently recruiting for
Year 7 2021 up to 2025 and will be welcoming its first
Year 9 cohort in September 2023.
Headmistress, Sarah Morris, said the school was also
seeing a considerable increase in interest from parents
from across the region, helped by a restructuring of fees
to ensure a Birchfield education is affordable for more
families. With fees for Year 7 starting at £8,000 per year,
Birchfield is a natural choice for aspirational families.
“It’s a very exciting year for Birchfield School and we look
forward to welcoming even more pupils in September
who will be able to enjoy a first-class private education
with our amazing new facilities,” Mrs Morris added.
“The senior school planning and developments are well
underway and senior pupils can look forward to a smart
new uniform and a state-of-the-art learning and sporting
environment across the school, with special focus on
science and sport.
“Birchfield’s location just off the A41 near Albrighton
ensures that it is a convenient and easily accessible
location for families from Wolverhampton, Telford and
Newport. We will be supporting pupils from all these
areas with the introduction of a minibus service in
September to ease the travel process for families.’
We are seeing greater numbers of parents from across
the region who are viewing the school as the ideal option
for their children’s education, encouraged by our policy
of small class sizes to allow personalised learning for all
pupils. This is backed up by Birchfield’s long tradition of
academic, sporting and artistic success with pupils who
are positive, confident, well-mannered and intellectually
“Enquiries from parents extend across all years
throughout the school although it is worth mentioning
that we only have a few places available in specific year
groups. We have personal tours available at all times and
an Open Morning planned for Saturday 16th October. Do
come and see why Birchfield is such a special place to
educate your children.’

Great British Grand Prix's
With the British Grand Prix just round the corner on 18th July,
Scene Magazine looks back at some great British Grand
Prix's over the years when we were literally at the edge or
Starting with The 1987 Grand Prix when Nigel Mansell was in
his pomp, the Williams Honda driver, alongside his team
mate Nelson Piquet were head and shoulders in the best car
and it was always going to be a 1-2 for Williams Honda, the
question was which way would it finish. By lap 35 with Piquet
leading and Mansell 2 seconds behind him, neither were
scheduled to stop, but Mansell took a gamble and came in
and got a new set of tyres. Now he came out not with a 2
second deficit but now 29 seconds behind the Frenchman.
With 28 Laps left could Mansell catch Piquet? Well on fresh
rubber Mansell began an epic charge, in fact he broke the lap
record Eight Times and by lap 62 of 65 he was right behind
Piquet and on lap 63 he overtook him to the absolute joy of
the 100,000 British spectators and hung on to win the race.
The place erupted and Mansell was engulfed by the crowd as
everyone thought he had just run out of petrol over the line, in
fact he had pushed the engine so much, it actually blew up!
What a race!
Williams, but this time was driving with a Renault engine as
Honda were a bit peeved with Mansell and Williams because
they kept blowing up their engines!!
This time Honda teamed up with Mclaren and The Maestro
himself Senna, so the battle commenced but Mansell had the
last laugh and won the race with Senna running out of Fuel
on the last lap. Nigel Mansell, ever the gentleman then
"picked" up Senna and famously gave him a lift to the pits,
much to the annoyance of the Stewards.
Coming into the 21st Century we look at the Legend that is
Lewis Hamilton and the first of his SEVEN British Grand Prix
wins. In 2008 there had been persistent rain in the morning
which had left a lot of standing water on the track and then
Lewis who was still with Mclaren at the time was starting on
the second row of the grid.
In 1991 the "Two horse race" this time was between Mansell
and the legend that was Ayrton Senna, Mansell again in his
Lewis had a brilliant start and got in front of the front three
drivers, but his teammate Kovalainen managed to overtake
him back and then the tussle began, Maclaren gambled that
it would rain and put on a set of "Wet" tyres on Lewis and
sure enough with the rain coming down drivers were either
sliding off or coming in to change their own tyres. This then
gave Lewis the time to "Storm" through and win his first
British Grand Prix, the first of many and who's to say he will
not win again in July!!
Good Luck Lewis!

Lilith enters Gemini July 18th, this Black Moon reveals hidden
secrets and feelings, coming to the fore...The Last Quarter
Moon August 30th sees a questioning of relationships, are
we disillusioned?? Illicit love affairs or pairings do mean we
live in the moment, yes!! Sometimes we have to break free,
sometimes we realize what matters, whichever way this
summer goes for you, relationships do seem key...
Cancer - (22nd June - 22nd July)
The New Moon July 10th is a great time for new starts
Cancer, especially work promotions or projects
achievement is recognised. Mercury enters Cancer July
11th good for incoming communications important letters,
emails. August sees the feisty side of Cancerians shouting, 'I
will not behave how other people want me to!' Feeling sick
of old beliefs or being 'respectable' expect heated
debates as you wield your sword...

brings talk of travel plans! The New moon August 8th sees
Leo clearing the air, with the ability to see past people's
'masks' and call them out on untruths... There is that gut
instinct within that you know you can feel and trust... go

July 22nd sees Venus enter Virgo, smiling upon the area of
love and romance, then 'boom!' July 29th planet Mars joins
the party, enhancing sexual desires! Then in pops Mercury

Sagittarius - (23rd Nov - 21st Dec.)
The July 20th Waxing Gibbous Moon phase is good to
harness those ambitions. On another note, children or
family members may need a bit of help, but you may have
to dig to get it out of them, especially those that are very
proud and don't like to ask for help or admit weakness in
any form. Just be careful Sagittarius to not self-sabotage,
there is a balance with helping others, but self-care is
Capricorn - (22nd Dec - 20th January)
For Capricorn the July 22nd Waxing Gibbous energy is
perfect for those focusing upon promotion, climbing the
career ladder or promoting one's own business or getting
ones CV out there and seen...fresh starts seem to be on the
agenda. Is it yourself or loved ones that are looking at a
house move? times are for moving on, moving forward, in
terms of the home this seems to be timed just right...
Aquarius - (21st Jan - 18th Feb)
The Full moon on August 22nd brings a sense of
completeness, 'So now it is done'... In love there is a sense
of 'no going back' now or even with family members or
friends 'were in this together' There does seem to be a lot of
support around you Aquarius, maybe you are breaking
away from tradition, looking at a new way of thinking,
breaking norms, going away from expectations, treading
new paths... with a new version or just the 'real' version of
you on show...
Pisces - (19th Feb - 20th March)
On July 28th Jupiter leaves Pisces leaving in its wake a
clearer and more realistic view of the world.... Sometimes
Pisces we can get carried away with fantasy but now
Jupiter is set to leave it takes some of the fantasy and
escapism with it. If you have been in denial about your true
feelings, then now it's time to look again with honest eyes...
How do I really feel actually? and What actions should I
take now I can see the things in reality? are questions Pisces
may find themselves asking...
Aries - (21st March - 20th April)
July 1st and 2nd sees the Moon in its last quarter in Aries, a
time to challenge any situations where one suspect's
manipulation. Once this is managed an easy opportunity
yells 'take me' Follow your instincts to achieve creative
highs...especially if working with other fire signs. On another
note, medication works better when it is taken rather than
when it is sitting on the shelf, so help yourself, why struggle?
Taurus - (21st April -21st May)
Be careful Taurus of trying to take on too much, one cannot
pour from an empty cup... Use July 4th Waning Crescent
Moon energy to negotiate to get a fairer deal, why should
you do the lions share? By August 22nd the Waning
Gibbous sees your confidence reputation and commitment
being recognized. Sometimes saying 'No' is respected,
especially within the workplace...

For a burial you can use an existing family grave in a local

FORD FOCUS ST-LINE X EDITION
I only have to nip into the town centre and park in one of
the concrete multi storey car parks to find out how much
bigger the car I am road testing is in comparison to that
manufactured in the sixties, at the same time as the multi
storey was built. I might well be able to get onto the space
but with cars parked either side it would be a miracle to
be able to open the door.
The Ford Focus I am road testing this week is a good
example, as it is wider and larger than its predecessor.
The hatchback is a popular family car but in sporty ST-Line
X Edition guise, the five door has full body styling kit, red
brake calipers, rear privacy glass, 18” alloys and ST Line
In the cabin the flat bottomed steering wheel and partial
leather trim with red stitching continue the sporty theme.
Such a desirable looking car will inevitably attract thieves.
Keyless entry fobs of all makes of cars have been targeted
with ‘relay box’ equipment, used to extend the signal from
fobs in homes to unlock and start vehicles parked outside.
Driving to the rescue is Ford with a new motion sensor.
The Ford fob detects when the car has been stationary for
longer than 40 seconds and triggers a sleep mode, which
will not respond to attempts to hack its signal via a ‘relay
box’ or through the misuse of other specialist equipment.
The ST-Line is packed with other technology which I like
such as heated front seats, heated steering wheel and
quick clear heated windscreen. Rain sensing wipers and
dual zone electronic air temperature control were also
I did not like the sports tuned suspension, especially
because of the numerous potholed roads in my area. To
limit the impact of potholed roads, the Focus has a system
which senses when a wheel is falling into a pothole and
adjusts the suspension to limit how far the wheel drops.
Because the tyre and wheel do not fall as far, they do not
strike the opposite side of the pothole as harshly on exit.
The rear suspension can respond even faster than the
front, with a signal from the front wheel providing a
pre-warning to the rear wheel before it reaches the
pothole. This all happens in a split second.
Safety features include a pre collision assist with
autonomous emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist
detection. This surged into operation as I was reversing in
a cul de sac. The cyclist was on the pavement. I had good
sight of him and in my mind he was nowhere near the
rear of the car. However, I felt a jolt as the automatic
emergency braking engaged. Not called for I thought but
I guess it is better to be safe than sorry. There are also
front and rear parking sensors.
Safety features when motorway driving include lane
keeping aid with lane keeping alert, cruise control with
intelligent speed assist and electronic stability control.
The 1 litre EcoBoost hybrid engine proves that fuelefficiency
and performance can go hand-in-hand. The
small but powerful engine with a slightly gruff voice has
quick acceleration when needed and low CO2 emissions.
At traffic lights, the engine will cut out but restarts
immediately when needed.
The Ford Focus ST-Line has only improved with age and is
more spacious and practical, stylish and good value for

KIA SOUL EV FIRST EDITION
By Sue Cooke
The world’s first electric forecourt can accommodate 36
electric vehicles charging simultaneously. Drivers can add
200 miles of range in 20 minutes. Electricity is partly
generated from solar power canopies above the chargers.
The driver relaxing lounge has free wifi, dedicated children’s
area, retail outlet, business meeting pods and even a
wellbeing zone with exercise bikes which when used,
generate more electricity! This is the future and this
forecourt exists now, in Essex with plans for 100 more in the
next five years.
And having this sort of infrastructure will perhaps be the
trigger for increasing sales of fully electric vehicles. In
January one in every six Kia vehicles sold was fully electric,
accounting in total for 16.7 per cent of all Kia sales in the UK.
Kia has some of the most practical EV models, like the Soul
EV, which I road tested this week.
The third generation Soul EV has a fresh and funky design,
full LED headlamps and is longer than its predecessor by
80mm. Alloy wheels have increased to 17inches and there
is a choice of three exterior bi-tone colour paintwork, with
contrasting roof and door mirrors as standard. It is the most
youthful looking Soul yet.
The crossover has a spacious interior with black leather
upholstery fitted as standard. I like the looks of the 10.25
inch floating touchscreen infotainment system and for those
insisting on good music, there are the signature tweeter 10-
speaker Harman/Kardon® premium sound system with
subwoofer, external amplifier and front centre speaker.
I also like a head up display which is a new addition to the
Soul EV and one that provides instant information on road
speed and the speed of the car without you having to move
your eyes from the road ahead.
I was lucky enough to road test the feature rich First Edition
model which has standard safety technologies such as driver
attention warning, lane keeping assist and forward collision
warning. Blind spot detection when motorway driving and
rear cross traffic alert are useful. The reversing camera
system has guidelines to ensure straight parking and rear
parking sensors. And when I bought a couple of big pots at
the garden centre, I found the boot space of 315 litres will
extend to 1,339 litres when the seats are folded down.
The main reason why this Kia is so practical is because the
Soul can be recharged to 80 per cent battery life in just 54
minutes and has a 280 miles driving range with combined
use. With my city driving life I could have achieved a range
of 402 miles Kia says. The Soul is up to 30 per cent more
energy efficient than Europe’s current best-selling electric
Kia has just launched KiaCharge, an app, which gives owners
of battery electric vehicles, access to more than 13,900
charging points across the UK, using a single account.
Created in partnership with Digital Charging Solutions, Kia
owners can also access more than 178,000 charging points
across 28 European countries without the need for
Kia’s seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty will cover the electric
motor and battery pack. Kia Corporation has announced
plans to launch seven new dedicated EVs between now and
2027. If they are all as practical and innovative as the Soul
EV and with the addition of the fantastic forecourt
infrastructure at Braintree, to be repeated all over the UK,
the automotive future, minus diesel and petrol doesn’t seem
such a great loss.

With the country, and the UK

We’re excited to announce our new range of homes
will be available at our Partridge Walk
development at Beaconside, Stafford this summer!
This July, Bovis Homes will be launching a stylish new
range of spacious homes to suit both first time buyers
and those looking to move up the ladder, we have a
range of 2, 3 and 4bedroom homes.
Designs favour openplan kitchendiners and selected styles
offer a downstairs utility room and optional study or snug
spaces; ideal for the new trend of working from home. The
larger properties, such as the fourbedroom Juniper, offer
additional features like bifold doors leading to the garden,
plenty of storage space and an ensuite.
Just a few miles from Stafford Town Centre, Partridge Walk
has plenty of local amenities including chain restaurants
such as Nandos and Pizza Express. There is also the Post
House Bar and Grill, Aston Marina and the Seven Stars
restaurant that are both popular local eateries.
Become part of an ecologically conscious and sustainable
community at Partridge Walk, this development will be
offering plenty of openspace views and incorporating
Hedgehog Highways. The highways have been designed to
allow hedgehogs and other wildlife to wander freely, from
garden to garden and to wider areas.
