Copenhagen 2021 will be the most
significant LGBTI* event of the year
combining WorldPride, EuroGames, an
eclectic arts and culture program, and the
biggest ever LGBTI* human rights forum.
And EuroGames is going to be the most
inclusive sporting event ever. The four-day
event will officially kick off with the Opening
Ceremony on Wednesday 18 August 2021. Out
of the expected 6,000 athletes to participate,
we like to introduce you to some of them.
Why are you taking part in the EuroGames?
There are many reasons – the sport, the people,
the love. The main reason is perhaps the
opportunity to meet all kinds of people from
across the globe. I absolutely adore that.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
I have so many – however, the athlete that
has impacted me the most is probably Serena
Williams. I played tennis as a kid and was
so mesmerized by her character. Both as an
athlete and as a person. I remember I wanted
to be as good as her.
A runner up would be the Japanese professional
volleyball player Yuji Nishida. He’s an
amazing player who showed the world that
you don’t have to be 2 meters tall to compete
professionally. We are the exact same height
at “only” 1.86 meters, and that gives me hope.
How do you unwind after a competition?
Preferably with my teammates. Hanging out.
Discussing how everything went. Pointing out
highlights of the matches. All of this most likely
with a beer in the hand – I am Danish after all!
Which sport are you really bad at?
Running for more than 5 kilometers. I cannot
zone out while running, so I’ll just use the
whole running session thinking of how much it
hurts to run.
What is your favorite song to listen to prior to
competing?
That’s a tough one – because I have a very broad
taste in music. For volleyball I’d like a bit more
intensity in the song. My favorite song would be
Purple Hat by Sofi Tukker. It’s odd and upbeat,
but contagious once you get used to it.
