LUDGVAN SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 25.06.21
A word from the Principal...
Welcome,
As always seems the case in the summer term, it has been an extremely busy 2 weeks since our last
newsletter. Our Y5 and Y6 children had a brilliant week away on camp at Pill Farm and the past two
days have seen Y3 enjoy their residential experience with a night in school and trips to the zoo and
farm! Unfortunately, a positive COVID test result meant that our Y1 and Y2 bubbles needed to isolate
for 10 days and would like to thank all of you for being so supportive during this challenging time
and congratulate the children for dealing with their own ‘mini lockdown 4.0’ so brilliantly!
You will be aware that our class photos were unable to be taken as our usual photographer was unable
to come into school due to the current COVID situation. Despite the fact that many alternative
photographers had no capacity to add us to their schedule, I am happy to share that we have found
a solution. One of our parents (Arya in EYFS!) has managed to arrange for the photography students
at Cornwall College to take some outside class photos for us. The photos will now be taken on the
2nd July, following which we will contact you with more information.
Unfortunately, we are unable to run our Sports Day and Leavers’ Assembly in our usual formats. All
of our children will take part in their usual sports day activities and races, but only in their class bubbles.
We will create a compilation of photos and videos to share with you all. Our Leavers’ assembly
will take place in the school hall and be live streamed or recorded, in the same way as last year. We
appreciate that resorting to these measures is a disappointment to all, including us, but ensuring we
can hold these events in some capacity whilst retaining necessary safety measures needs to be our
priority.
Kind regards,
Mr Adam Anderson
Principal

EYFS
This week, we have been very busy learning about some real life superheroes
like Mother Teresa, Captain Sir Tom Moore and Audrey Hepburn, as well as policemen,
firemen, nurses, doctors, vets, mountain rescue, lifeguards to name
a few! The children thought about how to describe real life superheroes and
added all of the adjectives they could think of onto a real superhero they drew
around.
To try and be real life superheroes, the children thought about how they could
make their friends happy. Some of their ideas were: playing a game with their
friend; making them a card; giving them a cuddle; making something for them
to play with. The children also picked their favourite real life superhero and
painted a picture of them.
To end the week, they enjoyed dressing like a rock star! We loved seeing them
dressed up and enjoying ‘rocking out’ to some of their favourite songs.

Y1
I am incredibly proud of all the children in Class 1, for the way they adjusted to
home learning yet again! It has not been easy but they have worked so hard to
complete all their home learning activities. Well done you are amazing!
They have been learning all about the Olympics and were able to remember
lots of interesting facts. They even had a go at making their own Olympic
torch. The children had fun completing an outdoor scavenger hunt and learning
new yoga positions. It was lovely to see all the pictures of the children completing
these activities.

Y2
Class 2 are extremely happy to be back after our 10 day lockdown. Thank you
to all the families who supported their children in completing their learning and
attending a daily zoom call. Even though many of you had to juggle work and
childcare, you did a fantastic job. The children produced some lovely work and
I was so impressed with their maths, writing and reading. I really enjoyed seeing
their drawings and PE efforts as well, which really kept spirits up. We had
a lovely surprise when we returned to school to discover our strawberry plant
had produced fruit and our radishes and beans are growing away nicely!

Y3
This week Year 3 have had a fun residential trip full of adventures! The children started
their camp full of excitement on day 1 with a trip to Newquay Zoo. The children
learnt lots about the animals and enjoyed playing in the parks. They then returned to
school with a campfire dinner, complete with marshmallows and melted mars bars!
They played games in their PJ’s and went on a torch lit walk before watching a film
and finally going to sleep, very late, after a ‘midnight feast’ of course! On day 2 the
children went to Trevaskis Farm, where they learnt about some fruit and vegetables,
we made good farmers! To end the camp we went to the beach for a picnic lunch and
a splash in the sea. It was a fantastic camp and the children were so enthusiastic and
well behaved. Well done Year 3, enjoy your sleep tonight!!

Y4
Year 4 have been busy with sports day practice, creating slide shows for a presentation
and also working on the difficult concept of time.
Our presentations have been based on delivering information to an audience, whilst
building our skill-set with adding animations, transitions and sharing our work collaboratively.
We kept our slides to a minimum amount of information so that we could
use it as prompts for our discussion, and ensuring we engaged the audience with
eye-contact.
Our time unit has been a challenging one. But we are getting more confident at telling
the time to the nearest minute for ‘past’ and ‘to’ the hour. We have related time to
number bonds to 60. If children are able to add 2 numbers that equal 60, then telling
the time will be a breeze.

Y5 + Y6 Camp
Last week year 5 and 6 headed to camp at Pill Farm. The week was action
packed with canoeing, archery, bushcraft, spear throwing, trebuchet building
and a Viking themed orienteering day. The children and staff had great fun. We
were all so impressed with how well the children got involved in every aspect of
the camp and were great ambassadors for Ludgvan School.

Eco Committee...
This week our year 5 eco-committee have been busy preparing to meet one of our
first targets of reducing waste in school by collecting paper from each class to be
turned into bedding for our school animals, which can then be composted after use.
Each class will have a separate paper bin that will be collected weekly by members of
the committee.
