POOL PASS FOR CIMARRON PKWY & HIGHLAND KNOLLS POOLS
In an effort to only allow homeowners and residents in good standing
to use the facilities, everyone wishing to use the pool must check in with
the lifeguard when entering the pools. Memorial Parkway uses an online
check in called CELLBADGE SYSTEM. This is a mobile security badging
and you will no longer use a printed ID Card to enter the pool. Resident’s
will love not having to carry a card or an ID. CELLBADGE features no
paper forms but a one-time online registration. Resident’s will use
the mobile check-in and can see if the pool is open from home. If you
registered last year you do not need to do anything with your account
unless there have been changes. If you have not registered please visit
our website at mphoa.org and register under the Swim Info tab - Pool
Access CELLBADGE page.
MEMORIAL PARKWAY ROADWAYS
Please help us keep our streets clear. We are receiving many complaints
from residents about cars being parked in the street with empty
driveways. Please be considerate of your neighbors when parking your
vehicles. Try to always park in your garage or on your driveway. If you
can’t park in your garage because you have too much clutter, spend some
time and clean out your garage! As a reminder, commercial vehicles are
not allowed in Memorial Parkway subdivision.
STREET GUTTERS AND DRAINS
We ask that you keep the street area in front of your home clean, so that
leaves, pine needles, grass clippings and dirt won’t accumulate in the
gutters next to the curb and end up being washed into the drains causing
them to back up and flood the streets. If you see someone putting grass
clippings, oil or other debris down the drains, please contact the MUD
District and the County at 281-463-6300. This includes lawn contractors
that are blowing the leaves into the street instead of bagging them.
STAY CONNECTED
To find the latest news and information on upcoming events, documents,
copies of Board minutes and to register for Memorial Parkway’s
blog, please go to our web page mphoa.org. As another way to share
communication, ideas and events in our neighborhood is to “like” us on
Facebook.
QUESTIONS? COMMENTS? SUGGESTIONS?
We welcome communication from homeowners and residents. The
MPCA Board of Directors are your neighbors and are available to answer
questions. We love having comments and suggestion from everyone as
we strive to make Memorial Parkway a great place to live. Please contact
us at anytime via email at office@mphoa.org.
ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL COMMITTEE
All exterior changes to your property must be submitted to our committee
for approval before you start any work. This includes, but is not limited
to, painting, re-roofing, sheds, patio covers, fences, etc. All requests must
be on our request form that can be found online at our website www.
mphoa.org or at the office. Please give as much detail as possible, so
there is no delay in getting your request reviewed. Except for painting
and re-roofing, it would be best to include a plat of your property that
shows property lines and easements in relation to the location of your
project.
HOW TO REPORT BACKYARD NUISANCE
If you have a neighbor with a terrible backyard such as garbage dumping,
unsanitary conditions, unsecured private swimming pools, etc., you can
call Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services’ at 713-274-
6300 to file a report.
NEED CURB REPAIR??
Do you have a broken curb in front of your home... Did you know that
Harris County Precinct 3 will come and fix it? It is as easy as going to
their website and filling out the service request form. They will come
and fix it for free (well, that is your tax dollars at work)! They will not fix
the curved part that attaches to your driveway, that is the homeowner’s
responsibility. You can go to www.pct3.com/about/service-request and
fill out the service request form if you have a broken curb that needs
repaired.
GARAGE SALES
MPCA would like to suggest that garage sales be conducted the first
Friday and Saturday of each month. This will eliminate the many signs
that are out each week and also makes for a stronger turn out. Most area
communities only allow sales twice a year. Memorial Parkway could be
known for its “Once a Month” garage sales.
Do not attach your garage sale signs to the STOP signs, as it is against the
law and the County can issue citations for this. If a sign is on a public right
of way, like the esplanades), they may be subject to fines of $500-$1,000
per occurrence per day. We also ask that you do not post your signs on
the property of another resident. When your sale is over, please go back
and pick up all of your signs.
CLUBHOUSE RENTAL
Clubhouse rental is subject to availability on a first come/first serve basis.
The clubhouse is only rented to Memorial Parkway adult residents (owner
or renter) in good standing (maintenance fee current and not in violation
of deed restrictions). Resident must show valid ID when renting facility
and must be present during the entire time of rental. A rental fee of $50
is required at the time the reservation is made. Rental of the Clubhouse
requires refundable deposit of $275.
TRASH CAN/CART REMINDERS FOR EVERYONE TO FOLLOW
On collection days, make sure to set your trash receptacle out by 7 AM
but no earlier than 6 PM the evening before. Trash receptacles/carts must
be stored inside your garage or behind the fence line at all times. They
must be stored out of public view by 8 AM the following morning. Please
note that a deed restriction violation letter will be sent out for those who
do not comply with this policy.
A NOTE FROM THE CONSTABLES
The Vacation Watch form is now available online on our website in the left
column. From this page (https://constablepct5.com/index.php/vacationwatch/)
you can fill in the form and submit it. The submitted form will
be emailed to dispatch for distribution. There is lots of good information
on Harris County Precinct 5 Constables’ office website. Residents are
encouraged to check it out at https://constablepct5.com/.
REMINDER FOR DOG WALKERS
Be a responsible/considerate pet owner by picking up your dog’s waste
from your neighbor’s yard when you’re out for a walk. There’s nothing
more frustrating than stepping in fecal matter in your own yard when
you don’t even have a pet.
BASIC GRILL TIPS
1. Always grill in a well-ventilated area away from shrubs, buildings and
overhangs such as awnings or patio umbrellas.
2. Never leave a lighted grill unattended.
3. Keep young children and animals away from the grill.
4. Wait until the charcoals begin to turn white before you start to grill
(approximately 40 minutes).
5. Never use kerosene or gasoline to start a charcoal fire in the grill. Avoid
using chemical starters or chemically treated briquettes as well, as they
will affect the taste of your food.
6. To start a fire, pile the briquettes in a pyramid shape. Once hot, however,
they may be distributed in a single layer across the grill.
7. Place the rack of the grill at least five inches above the coals.
8. Always have a pair of fire-resistant cooking mitts handy and use longhandled
tongs while cooking.
9. Fire flare-ups can be avoided by raising the height of the grill rack or
closing the vents of a covered grill. A spray bottle filled with water is also
helpful to have around. Gas- or electric-grill flare-ups can be controlled
by lowering the heat thermostat.
10. To make a charcoal grill hotter, either move the coals together,
open the grill vents partially if closed, lower the height of the grill rack
or add more dry briquettes to the fire. Never add briquettes that are
precoated with a fire-starter fluid to the existing hot coals.
11. Try not to turn fish fillets on the grill more than once, as they are
delicate and may fall apart.
12. Most important, don’t be afraid and have fun while you’re grilling. You
will be a pro by summer’s end.
ONE CALL DOES IT ALL!
GARDEN TIPS FOR JULY
• Plant fall flowering annuals where your spring annuals have bloomed
out. Set our seeds like zinnia, marigold, cosmos, petunia and portulaca so
you’ll have color until frost. Don’t let seedlings dry out.
• In summer, prune roses to keep them in shape. Continue black spot and
insect treatments. Water 2” once per week.
• Remove spent crepe myrtle flowers to prolong bloom production.
• Weeds rob plants of valuable water, nutrients--remove them.
• Great sun/heat-lovers include coral honeysuckle, coreopsis, lantana,
oleanders and hamelia.
• Fertilize flowers lightly, if at all; too hot for heavy feedings.
• Water your lawn longer but less frequent. Deep water of about 2 - 3” per
week forces plant roots to grow down, instead of sideways into sunbaked
upper soil levels. Use a bowl in your yard to measure during waterings.
KATY ISD’S PARTNERS IN EDUCATION
LAUNCHES FIRST EVER FOOD FOR FAMILIES-
SCHOOL’S OUT CAMPAIGN
Katy ISD’s Partners in Education is inviting the community to bring hope
to families who could use some extra help this summer. For the first time
ever, the Food for Families program is expanding to include support for
Katy ISD families in need over the summer too. Partners in Education is
working with all the Katy ISD junior high schools for this summer launch.
The Katy ISD junior high campuses help to identify students for the
program and Partners in Education collects community and corporate
donations. Food for Families - School’s Out will benefit those select
Katy ISD junior high families in need this summer. Those interested in
supporting Food for Families can contribute online or via check, remitted
to “Katy ISD Food for Families” and mailed to Partners in Education, Katy
ISD ESC, 6301 South Stadium Lane, Katy, TX 77494. Food for Families is
a community initiative raising monetary donations to purchase grocery
gift cards for Katy ISD students and their families in need over the
holidays and NOW over the summer. Cards are distributed to students
before school is out with a note of best wishes from our community. In
the 2020 holiday season, Food for Families raised over $60,000. Since its
inception in 2002, this initiative has raised over $300,000 and assisted
more than 6,300 families.
Food for Families, a Katy ISD Partners in Education yearly initiative,
unites our Katy ISD staff and community in support for select students
and their families. To learn more, visit Partners in Education under the
“Community” tab at www.katyisd.org or contact Tammy Stringer, 281-
BOARD OF TRUSTEES LOOK TO MOVE FORWARD
WITH FUTURE KATY ISD VIRTUAL HIGH SCHOOL
Katy Independent School District is preparing to move forward with the
establishment of a virtual high school after trustees discussed and voted
to approve the item at tonight’s Regular Board Meeting, pending future
guidance and funding from the state. The Katy ISD Virtual High School would
be tuition-free and considered a full-time stand-alone virtual high school
campus. The virtual high school criteria and student eligibility include:
• The virtual campus would have its own Texas Education Agency (TEA)
campus code.
• Students would be required to submit an online application during a
designated window of time.
• Students would need to meet the required criteria for acceptance into
the virtual high school.
• Enrollment in the virtual high school would be for one calendar school
year. Students would be able to elect to withdraw and return to their home
campus during the summer and before the start of a new school year.
• Students would graduate from the Katy ISD virtual high school and
would earn a GPA, class rank (top 10%) and quartile rank with their virtual
school cohort.
• Students attending the virtual high school would not be eligible to
participate in their home campus UIL and/or extracurricular activities.
This past April, the District sought input from parents of secondary students
through an interest survey. More than 1,200 responses were received from
parents who expressed an interest in their child(ren) attending a standalone
virtual high school during the 2021-22 school year.
KATY’S NEWEST FILMMAKING AND ANIMATION
CAMP CREATED BY SLHS ALUMNI
Session 2: July 20 th -22 nd : 8:30 AM-3:30 PM
Howdy! Our names are Kai, Cazden, Robbie and Jack, we are four SLHS Alumni
and Texas Film School Graduates. For the past year we have been creating
Katy’s newest and only Animation and Filmmaking camp, Creator Camp! Our
goal is to share with students the wonders of film and animation without the
dullness of note taking and lectures. We designed our 3-day camps so that
students will learn hands-on and in real-time, creating Special effects, Green
Screen effects, Sound effects and loads more. Each day, students will come
home with a new movie they created themselves and on the last day we will
transform a classroom into a mock Oscars Film Festival where your child will
pick their favorite film that they made to be shown on the big screen! We are
running our first camps this summer and we would love to have some support
from the local community to get us off to a good start. Camps are held at Mirus
Academy Katy, 5561 3 rd St, Katy, TX 77493 and Each camper will receive a free
shirt and goody bag. Two Sessions will be held this summer: If your child is
interested in filmmaking or animation please visit our site at CreatorCamp.org.
