Ksenia Korotkova Portfolio and final project 2021 at Marbella Design Academy

"Secret Garden" is mainly inspired by the gardens of Rococo times where people used to spend most of their time playing, dating or meeting with their lovers secretly. The gardens used to be giant with a lot of trees and corners to hide. Mysterious spots of the garden inspired me to use black color as the main color for my collection combined with white for the contrast. Silhouettes and prints of the Rococo dresses are also taken into consideration. DECONSTRUCTION
The Ancient Greek temple known as the Parthenon has long since been
considered a great illustration of the ideal and Classical architectural
construction. This could simply be attributed to the fact that during the
Classical period of Greek art, symmetry and balance were essential,
which can easily be seen in the structure of the temple.
Deconstruction is the concept of this project, so I wanted to deviate
from the rules of Greek symmetry and do something asymmetrical but
just as “perfect” and perfectly balanced.
the
INSPIRATION
My inspiration for this project came from
ancient Greek architecture and statues.
I tried to concentrate on the lines of the
columns, curves of the arches, and shapes
of the famous statue Venus De Milo.
PROCESS
My research began by analyzing three
simple button-up shirts and experimenting
with different ways to arrange them on the
mannequin and deconstructing each one
until I found an interesting shape.
Choosing the studio with the clear
me focus on the smallest details of the shirt,
which would appear more readable in the
photos.
KSENIA KOROTKOVA/WHITE CAMELIA
WHITE CAMELIA
A Russian folktale tells of a peasant couple without children.
A miracle occurs one day, when a snow sculpture magically
comes to life to become their daughter. Snegurochka brought
lots of joy to her parents but she didn’t live a long life. She was
challenged by the village children to jump over the bonfire
where she melted.
In a similar folktale, the play by Aleksandr Ostrovsky in the
19th century depicted a young beauty as the daughter of her
father Frost and mother Spring. She was immortal and lived in
her father’s winter forest. Snegurochka was lonely and would
happily give up her immortality for the ability to feel love like
normal humans. Her mother Spring gave her that gift of being
capable of loving. As soon as she fell in love she melted at dawn
when the sun touched her and turned her into a cloud.
These two similar stories inspired me to create a collection
mixing winter and spring.
BLUE TREASURE
/BLUE TREASURE
Gustav Klimt (July 14, 1862 – February 6, 1918)
was an Austrian symbolist painter and one of
the most prominent members of the Vienna
Secession movement. Klimt is noted for his
paintings, murals and sketches. His primary
subject was the female body, and his works
are marked by a frank eroticism.
Klimt’s works were most often considered too
sensual for the mores of the 20th century.
Some of his paintings were criticized for their
radical themes and material, and were called
“pornographic”.
This collection is inspired by the colors of
Klimt’s paintings and his obsession with
female bodies.
My aim was to show the most important thing;
the body of a woman, complimenting it with
feminine shapes and framing the silhouette.
the
INSPIRATION
Inspiration for my collection came from the
paintings of Gustav Klimt. I settled on the
color scheme from which I used blue and
golden tones.
I started from the gathering technique and
the way I wanted it to be placed. I wanted
my belt to be corset-like so I began to drape
it around the mannequin.
KSENIA KOROTKOVA/A LITTLE DREAM
A LITTLE DREAM
Indian culture has always inspired me, especially
their two-piece dresses with open backs. Women
would always wear lots of head pieces and jewelry.
For this project, I wanted to create a wedding
gown and jewelry set inspired by Indian culture.
Since I’m from Europe, I decided to combine these
two cultures and create an outstanding dress.
JEWELRY
The jewelry was made from pearls since
pearls are usually worn as wedding jewelry
in Europe. I designed a headpiece that was
influenced by the headpieces in India. I built
a pair of earrings and a brooch with the
same pearls.
