Numbers speak

louder than words

Posting a year-on-year rise of 10%, Turkey’s export figures hit

an all-time high July figure of $16.4 billion. The 12-month rolling

export figure in July exceeded $200 billion for the first time

in Turkey’s history and reached $201.5 billion.

The country’s imports also surged 17% to $20.7 billion in the

same period. Turkish imports jumped 26% on an annual basis

to $146.8 billion in the first seven months of this year.

In January-July, exports totaled $121.4 billion, surging 35%

from the same period last year.

If we compare the seven-month figure with the pre-pandemic

period (January-July 2019), this also posted a 16.4% increase.

The exports/imports coverage ratio went up 5.6 percentage

points to 82.7% during the same period, the minister said.

The country’s foreign trade deficit narrowed 5% to $25.5 billion

in January-July. These were all announced by Mehmet Mus,

Trade Minister of Turkey.

The home textile industry used the digital marketing and sales

channels to stand in the pandemic period but it is now standing

up with physical fairs and meetings. Supported by reinforced

digital marketing, the industry will perform better then the

pre-pandemic period once the disease is completely vanished.

Soft furnishings retailer Julian

Charles has seen sales of blackout

curtains boom as Brits try to block

out the early morning sun to get a more

restful sleep.

Just days after the summer solstice, the

nationwide retailer has noted a growing

demand for hotel-style blackout curtains.

Light-sleepers use them to avoid being

woken up at dawn and they are also popular

among shift workers and for children’s

bedrooms. Julian Charles Rachel Foley

head of product buying and brand said:

“We all love summer, but not everyone

wants to be woken up in the early hours

by the sun peeping through the curtains.

“A good night’s sleep is important for

our health and blackout curtains can really

help. Hotels have known about this

for years, but there’s no reason why you

can’t enjoy the benefits at home too.”

The sector is raring to go and yearning

for a return to the international

stage. Personal discussions, physical

product presentations and valuable

inspiration – the call for an international and

multifaceted meeting place for the sector is

loud and clear seven months before the next

scheduled edition of the trade fair. At present,

the falling corona infection rates, as well

as the associated moves to relax restrictions

and open up businesses, offer good reason

for optimism at home and abroad. “At last,

we can see light at the end of the tunnel. And,

although this is no reason for euphoria, it

gives us a solid ground for taking a positive

approach. We have excellent contacts to our

international customers who have expressed

a great need for personal encounters, a direct

exchange of information and new impressions”,

says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President

Textiles & Textile Technologies, Messe

Frankfurt. This is also reflected by the reassuringly

high number of registrations already

received after more than a year of pandemic

and with seven months still to go before the

leading trade fair for home and contract textiles

opens its doors again. Thus, around 80

percent of exhibitors at Heimtextil 2020 are

interested in taking part in the coming edition

of the fair.

the programme of events in 2022 will once again

be the Trend Space inspiration area in Hall 4.0.

The coming edition will show how the pandemic

has changed our lives and, therefore, the way we

attention will be given to the mega subject of

‘new work’, which will be viewed with new facets.

Digital services will supplement the

spectrum of products to be seen at

Heimtextil 2022 in Frankfurt. In planning

are live streams and online contributions

from the programme of lectures.

They will cover a variety of topics, such

as ‘sleep’, the Heimtextil Trends and

Interior.Architecture.Hospitality, the

service for (interior) architects and hospitality

experts. Lectures will illuminate

the sustainability theme and the Future

Materials Library. Nextrade, the order

and data-management portal, is another

digital service offered by Messe Frankfurt

and provides an around-the-clock business

relationship between dealers and

suppliers.

Editions of Intertextile

Shanghai Apparel Fabrics,

Intertextile Shanghai Home

Textiles and Yarn Expo will be

rescheduled to 9 – 11 October

2021. The fairs were originally

due to take place at the end

of August at the National

Exhibition and Convention

Center (Shanghai).

Ms Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of

Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd explained: “To comply

with the government guidelines for pandemic

containment and following discussions with our

stakeholders, we have made the decision to postpone

the fairs from their original August timing. To allow

our exhibitors and buyers as much time as possible to

plan ahead, we have already confirmed new dates with

the fairground for the three concurrent fairs: 9 – 11

October.”

“I would like to thank the participants of all three fairs

for their understanding and ongoing support as we

continue to operate in uncertain times. We remain dedicated

to providing a quality international trading platform

for three sectors for the autumn / winter sourcing

from recycled t-shirts. Now available instore and

How did you enter the industry and how is your

journey going now? I want to know your plans and

projects.

Our activities started in 1972 with the purchase and

sale of yarn in a 12 square meter store. The paint carvings

of the country, Özen Boyahanesi, was established

in Istanbul on an area of 1000 m² in Esenyurt. In this

process, our company produced mercerized yarn and

moved to the workshop in Istanbul Bayrampasa, in an

area of 3000 square meters, in 1980 to promote the

production of nylon sewing yarn for the leather industry.

In 1990, we added high-strength polyester sewing

yarn to our product line. Our main target in 1997 was

to head towards world markets. In this context, we

participate in international fairs and attach great importance

to our R&D activities. In 2003, we established a

factory on an area of 14.000 square meters in Istanbul

Kıraç. After the factory investments were completed,

we opened our companies and warehouses in Russia

in 2014 and in America in 2017.

Thus, we started to serve our customers in the region.

In 2021, we decided to invest in a new machinery with

an additional building of 5000 m2 due to the needs in

the market. We will continue to serve our customers

We increase our production capacity by 35% in all our

units with our new investments. The sewing yarn we

produce is used in many areas. We offer our products

to our customers in many areas from bedding to furniture,

from ready-to-wear to leather saddlery, from automotive

to souvenirs.

What are your most demanded products?

Our polyester sewing yarn polyart brand is our most demanded

product. On the other hand, we have a very

wide product range for the 32 brands we have produced.

All of our sewing yarns are in demand by our customers.

Do you follow the developments closely?

Machine manufacturers are always following the

developments. We are also striving to make progress

in R&D and innovation. In these matters, we

can be solution partners with other companies in

the sector. We are one of the companies that are

always open to development and follow the changes

in the sector. Our main goal is to accurately express

these developments to our customers’ employees.

We are trying to benefit the production of

our consumers.

How do you supply raw materials?

In terms of raw materials, we have many business

partners in the world. We make our supplies from

these companies. We have set our quality standards

and we have very good relationships with

our raw material suppliers. At the same time, we

work with our business partners to improve our

product quality.

What do you think are the factors that make

your products different? I would like to get

your thoughts on this matter.

There are many factors that make our products

different. We add appropriate features to our products

and offer them to the industry. We do not sell

our products, which we sell to the textile industry,

to the furniture industry. In addition, we are in constant

communication with our customers to establish

good relations with them. Thus, we become

their solution partner. We do not do price-based

marketing. We always offer service diversity to our

customers. Such matters are very important to us.

sales?

We are a company serving 4 continents. We export

to 58 countries. In addition, the ratio of our exports

to our total sales is 54%.

What are your biggest goals in the industry?

Our biggest goal is to deliver our products to our

customers on time. We want to serve our consumers

with the highest quality and at the best possible

price. Customer satisfaction is our biggest goal. In

2023, we will establish a second production line

abroad. In this direction, our research continues

for the right location. We continue to receive support

from our foreign commercial attaches in this

regard.
