Medical Services
The Health Center at Auraria offers comprehensive medical
and mental health services. The department is staffed
by highly trained medical personnel dedicated to the
well-being and success of students and campus
colleagues. The Health Center at Auraria can treat
the majority of your health concerns on-site in
a welcoming environment that is professional,
inclusive, supportive and affordable.
The mental health staff are well-versed in
addressing the emotional, mental and behavioral
health concerns of students and staff. Working
collaboratively with various campus Counseling
Centers, a variety of issues can be addressed
confidentially. The Health Center’s mental health
professionals are all licensed to prescribe medications
when clinically indicated.

No Charge Health Services
Academic Vital Signs
The Health Center at Auraria offers a
program entitled Academic Vital Signs
which is designed to connect students to
academic and personal resources, as early
as possible, to enhance the likelihood of
academic success. Any Auraria student
can simply stop by the Health Center
at Auraria without an appointment
and request to meet with one of the
Academic Referral Coordinators, who
will make connections with the most
appropriate institutional resources based
on the student’s needs. Students do
not need to be a patient at the Health
Center at Auraria to access this service.
It is important for students to seek help
when they first determine that some type
of academic or personal assistance may be
beneficial. Additionally, the Health Center
at Auraria medical providers automatically
integrate an academic vital signs checkup
into each clinical visit as an additional
strategy to assess if a student may be in
need of assistance.
Nutrition Counseling
A Registered Dietitian is available to meet
with individuals who are interested in
having personalized nutrition counseling.
This service provides for an initial intake
appointment, with limited follow-up visits
as appropriate.

Tobacco Cessation
This service provides an initial
assessment by a health education
professional (1 or more visits) and up
to three (3) clinical office visits with a
medical provider. For those choosing a
medication option to assist with their
tobacco cessation, a three month supply
of the appropriate prescription is provided
at no charge.

Personnel, Costs
& Confidentiality
The Health Center at Auraria employs a variety
of medical personnel, as well as allied health
professionals and support specialists. All clinical
providers are fully licensed and credentialed
according to their medical specialty.

Costs & Discounts
Charges are purposely kept as low as possible to assist students.
For self-pay patients an automatic 50% discount is applied to all charges.
Confidentiality
The Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
is enforced. All records are confidential and cannot be released to anyone without
a patient’s written authorization. The only exception is when records are legally
subpoenaed or required by public health law.
After-Hours Medical Care
If you are experiencing a life or limb threatening emergency,
go immediately to the closest emergency room or call 911 for
emergency response.
After-Hours Mental Health
Crisis Support & Victim Assistance
If you have an urgent mental health or victim assistance need after hours, please
call 303-615-9911 or text the word TALK to 38255 to be connected with a trained
mental health professional. This 24/7 phone crisis support line offers assistance
to victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, sexual harassment and those with
mental health needs.

Insurance Information
Health insurance is not required to access services
at the Health Center at Auraria.
Accepted
Insurance Plans
The Health Center at Auraria is an innetwork
medical provider for all student
health insurance plans and for the major
health insurance plans offered in the State
of Colorado.
The limited exceptions to this are exclusive
plans such as Bright Health, Friday, Oscar,
Kaiser, Medicare and Medicaid, of which
the Health Center at Auraria is not a
participating provider. However, if you
participate in one of these plans, you can
still be seen as a self-pay patient with an
offered discount and are eligible for all of
the no-charge services offered.

Individuals Without
Health Insurance

The Health Center at Auraria offers a
special 50% discount for self-pay patients
and applies this discount to all incurred
charges as a way to reduce medical costs
for Auraria constituents. Self-pay
patients are required to pay at
the time of service, or it may
be possible to establish
a payment contract for
future payments.

The Auraria Immunizations office is the agency that administers the
State of Colorado higher education immunization requirement for each
of the Auraria institutions. This office also provides immunizations for
the prevention of disease and several types of immunizations for those
that will be traveling abroad.
Mandatory Requirement
Colorado State law requires any student enrolled
for one or more credit hours in higher education to
comply with the State’s immunization policy.
This requirement applies to all students including
active military students, graduate students,
students taking online only classes and those
studying abroad.

Phoenix Center at Auraria
The Phoenix Center at Auraria is a free and confidential resource for anyone affiliated
with the Auraria campus. The PCA provides services to anyone who has been impacted
by interpersonal violence (relationship violence, sexual violence,
and/or stalking) including immediate survivors and those
who care for them. Services include but are not limited
to: academic and employment advocacy, information
and access to campus and community resources,
information regarding reporting and accompaniment
to help survivors to make informed decisions,
accompaniment to appointments related to the
experience of violence (court, law enforcement,
advisor, etc.), and emotional support.

Campus Accessible Shuttle
The Campus Accessible Shuttle service provides no charge transportation for campus
students, faculty and staff with long-term or temporary disabilities.
Students with long-term disabilities are required to register with their institution’s disability
services office. All other campus community members need to register with Parking &
Transportation Services. Once registered, you will receive a decal to place on your campus
ID. You will be asked to show your ID with the decal when boarding the shuttle.
All students, faculty, staff and campus visitors with temporary disabilities may visit the
Parking & Transportation Services office for short-term validation.

The mission of the MSU Denver Roadrunner Food Pantry is to fight hunger on
campus by offering every student a lunch or items that can be taken home and used to

MSU DENVER
CARE Team
The MSU Denver Campus Assessment, Response & Evaluation (CARE) Team
provides early assessment and referral when a student’s behavior is identified as
concerning, risky or potentially harmful to self, others or the community. The Dean of
Students Office and the Student Care Center collaborate to respond to CARE referrals
submitted for struggling or distressed students. Through the CARE Team referrals,
students can benefit from individualized case management, crisis support, referrals
to resources and other guidance to stay safe, successful and healthy in college. If
you are concerned about someone’s behavior or welfare, trust your gut and pass the
information along to trained staff who can help.
CARE Team Oversight
MSU Denver’s CARE Team operates under the Division of Academic and Student Affairs,
through the Office of Student Engagement and Wellness/Dean of Student’s Office.
How to File a CARE Report
The CARE Team relies on members of our community to share information when they
observe student behavior that is concerning, risky or potentially harmful to self or others.

Student Care Center
The Student Care Center encompasses MSU Denver’s non-clinical case management
services. The case managers conduct outreach on behalf of the CARE team and
can help if a student needs assistance with emergency housing, food resources,
financial concerns, mental health resources, public benefit assistance and much more.
In addition to Case Management Services, the Student Care Center oversees the
Roadrunner Food Pantry, Student Emergency Retention Fund, DREAMer Emergency
Fund, Single Stop, Public Benefit Assistance and Epic Scholars Program.

Counseling Center
Accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, the MSU Denver
Counseling Center provides short-term individual counseling sessions to MSU Denver
students at no charge. These sessions are conducted or supervised by culturally
competent professional mental health providers. Additional services include crisis
intervention, support groups, addiction resources, anti-racism workshops and processing
spaces for marginalized groups.
Confidentiality: The Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of

Food Pantry
The Office of Wellness & Recreation Services is dedicated to supporting students in
need of food and personal hygiene items. The CU Denver Food Pantry is an important
resource designed to assist students in need. The pantry is entirely donation-based, as
no student fees are utilized to support the pantry. Individuals can assist the Food Pantry
by donating items, donating to the gift fund, arranging a food drive or volunteering for
the Food Bank of the Rockies through the VIP Program.

CARE Team
The CU Denver Campus Assessment, Response
& Evaluation (CARE) Team was created to address
the health and safety needs of students, as well
as the campus community. The purpose of the
team is to assess whether individuals pose a risk
to themselves or others and to provide assistance
to those in need. The team takes a preventative
approach to risk assessment by offering resources,
referrals and support to both the individual of concern
and those impacted.
CARE Team Oversight
The team operates under Student Success and reports to the Dean of Students.
A CARE report can be completed by visiting ucdenver.edu/CARE and clicking
“Submit a Concern”.

for International Students
CU Denver automatically provides University of Colorado sponsored student health
insurance to all International students. The Student Health Insurance Plan has an
exclusive, on-campus, 100% benefit for services at the Health Center at Auraria,
with a $20 maximum perscription cost. Upon registration, International students
are automatically enrolled in this plan. For International students who already have
health insurance that is acceptable for use within the United States, there is an option
to submit a waiver form by the semester deadline to have the University sponsored
student health insurance removed from their account.

Counseling Center
The CU Denver Student and Community
Counseling Center provides mental health
counseling services to CU Denver Students as well
as the Denver Metro community.
The CU Denver Counseling Center also serves as a
training site for counseling graduate students in the
School of Education and Human Development. The staff
includes psychologists, professional psychotherapists
and advanced graduate-level practicum students.
Counseling faculty members and professional staff
supervise the students.
Supervisors and psychotherapists are well-trained in working with
the diverse psychological issues of individuals, couples and families. Services at the
Counseling Center emphasize enriching the quality of life for those seeking treatment.
The Counseling Center uses a brief (6-12 sessions), goal directed, flexible counseling
model. Each individual, couple or family is assured respect and confidentiality where
their personal needs, philosophies and beliefs are honored.

Crisis Support & Victim Assistance
If you have an urgent mental health or victim assistance need after
hours, please call 303-615-9911 or text the word TALK to 38255 to be
connected with a trained mental health professional. This 24/7 phone
crisis support line offers assistance to victims of domestic abuse,
sexual assault, sexual harassment and those with mental health needs.

Psychology Clinic
The CU Denver Psychology Clinic is a training site for
graduate students in the Clinical Health Psychology Ph.D.
program at the University of Colorado Denver. The mission
is to provide high-quality affordable care in a confidential
and compassionate setting. Therapists in the clinic are
doctoral students who are supervised by licensed
psychologists. The training program is accredited by the
American Psychological Association. Services include
psychotherapy, psychological testing and assessments
and health psychology services.
Services
Therapy: Individual therapy for adults, children and adolescents experiencing a
wide range of psychological problems.
Testing/Assessments: Intellectual/academic and personality assessments for adults
and children, including those for learning disabilities, attention-deficit/hyperactivity
disorder and other psychological problems.
Health Psychology Services: Specialized services for those with medical problems
that affect functioning and quality of life.
Costs
Low cost mental health services are provided. Please contact the CU Denver Psychology
Clinic for additional details and information regarding the financial assistance policy.
