the other students that perseverance pays off and that you just need

The organizing team of the Drive-in cinema project: “The Special

and efforts we invest in improving the academic community. As volunteers,

we were not motivated by money but by the true sense of

community we build within the association, as well as by the satisfaction

with our work by other students and the general audience.

Therefore, we are always glad when our projects are recognized by

the parent faculty. Also, we are happy that with this we can show to

to this, encourages us to persevere in the constant improvement of

our work and to continue to create creative content to provide our

students with the best of the formal and informal education.”

Students co-authors of the book Enterprise Risk Management:

“To most students, this was an opportunity to participate in writing a

very detailed analysis that required the development of not only research

but also communication skills so that all elements of a company’s

analysis could be combined into one consistent high-quality unit.

Professor Miloš Sprčić was very thorough in reviewing the analyzes

and gave guidelines that helped students to bring their work to a

highly professional level, which led to the development of not only

another student project but also real research papers worth publishing.

Despite the environment in which it was much more difficult to

organize the project, the students succeeded in this plan with their

determination and perseverance to create the best possible works. We

would like to express our great gratitude to Professor Danijela Miloš

Sprčić because without her excellent mentorship and dedication for

publishing papers and textbooks, all this would not be possible, and

that goes for all other employees who participated in editing and

publishing our papers. We would like also to thank the Dean of the

Faculty of Economics & Business, Professor Jurica Pavičić, who on

behalf of the Faculty decided to support us in publishing the textbook.

It is a great honor to receive recognition for our efforts in the form of

the Dean's letter of appreciation."

the students who decided to dedicate their time to sports and contribute

to raising the Faculty of Economics & Business in Zagreb to the

higher level. It was a wonderful experience to be a part of the sports

community at the faculty that gave me new acquaintances, new challenges

and completed my life with happy moments that I will always

remember. Thanks to everyone who was and will be a part of that

great story. Special thanks to the Faculty for appreciating and recognizing

the efforts of all students who are part of the sports world of

the Specialist Professional Graduate Study of Digital Marketing at

the Faculty of Economics & Business - Zagreb presented their solutions

The winners and the final ranking of the groups were decided by an

expert jury consisting of Mr. Rene Bitorajac and Dina Tudor as representatives

of the Luda kuća Theater and the teachers of the study of

Digital Marketing, Assoc. Prof. Sandra Horvat, Ph.D., Assist. Prof.

Morana Fudurić, Ph.D., and Assoc. Prof. Vatroslav Škare, Ph.D., from

the Faculty of Economics & Business - Zagreb. The organizers pointed

out that the criteria by which they chose the best ideas and

presentations include: the quality of analysis and critical thinking,

the quality of strategic recommendations, innovation, and applicability

of solutions in practice.

“With the integrated project, we connected all compulsory courses of

the first year of study and enabled students to understand the entire

process of digital marketing through application in practice. This is a

novelty not only at the level of our study but also of the entire faculty,

which means that we have proceeded with continuous innovations

in teaching.", said Assoc. Prof. Vatroslav Škare, Ph.D., one of

the study leaders.

The special feature of this project as well as cooperation is the high

degree of involvement and support those students have from professors

from the Department of Marketing at the Faculty of Economics

& Business - Zagreb, but also experts from practice. Namely, the

students were guided and advised through all phases of the project

by external associates from renowned digital agencies and organizations

such as Degordian, Saatchi & Saatchi, Martian & Machine,

Resonate, Bornfight, and T-Hrvatski Telekom, which additionally

ensures top-quality education and experience for students, but also

high-quality solutions for Luda kuća as a client. In addition to the

practical knowledge that students will gain with this project, the

quality of the project was also recognized by Zagrebačka banka, a

long-term partner of Luda kuća, which also provided financial

awards to the best student groups.

"Congratulations to all students who have shown great creativity and

innovation in their work. For us at Zaba, the goal is to encourage

such talented and creative young people, through such and similar

projects that reward their excellence. Only by investing in education

and giving opportunities to young people can we all progress together

and be an even better society. Since I come from the world of marketing,

I am especially glad to see the fresh ideas of the generation to

come and for which digital media is already part of the DNA. And we

can certainly learn a lot from them, so let's all give them a chance to

show us what they know, " said Ms. Nikolina Zečić, Director of Customer

Experience Management, Marketing and Identity and Communication

at Zagrebačka banka.

Mr. Rene Bitorajac, director and artistic director of the Luda kuća

theater, said that he was very satisfied with the results and efforts

that students, professors, and external associates of the Digital Marketing

study invested in this project: “This is a very challenging year

for us in several different segments. We strive to respond to all these

challenges in the best possible way, while ensuring our future and

further growth when, finally, we return to normal. We are extremely

satisfied with this cooperation and the new friendship with the Faculty

of Economics & Busines, and we are turning to the concretization

of cooperation with students in the application of the proposed

solutions and activities."

PART I

On June 17, 2021, the academic painter Ms. Karina Sladović

handed over a valuable artistic donative to the Faculty of Economics

& Business - a portrait of her great-uncle Prof. Eugen

Sladović. However, most readers will immediately ask themselves

who was this royal public full professor and how did he deserve

such a special place in the history of the Faculty of Economics &

Business in Zagreb? Therefore, let’s start from the beginning!

According to rare and scanty published biographies (e.g., in the

Croatian Encyclopedia - online edition https://

www.enciklopedija.hr/Natuknica.aspx?ID=56553) Eugen Sladović

was born in Jelsa on the island of Hvar on November 22, 1882. He

completed his law studies in Zagreb in 1906 cum laude and obtained

the title of Doctor of Law. Entering the service of the Provincial

Government in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the same year,

he was often transferred to the various county administrations,

where he served, among other things, with the lower authorities.

Thus, after his initial appointment in Banja Luka, he progressed

relatively quickly in the service from an administrative trainee

(Conzeptspraktikant) through bailiffs (Adjunct) and head of the

district office in Doboj (1911), and in 1913 as a legal expert was

assigned to the V Department (Worship and Teaching) of the Provincial

Government in Sarajevo. Sladović already at that time

enjoyed the reputation of a renowned expert in local law, which

was indirectly proven by the fact that, during the visit of Emperor

Francis Joseph I to Sarajevo, he was among the distinguished

guests at the dinner of June 1, 1910. He enjoyed the same reputa-

11

tion and respect among the local population, due to his diligence,

responsibility, and knowledge of local conditions and people, and

personal attitude to the service, regardless of religion, regardless of

nationality and class, or the social position of persons involved. Despite

the outbreak of WW I and chronic bronchitis, with which he

fought for a long time, Dr. Sladović, in addition to his regular job,

started writing and publishing as many as three books: Manual of

Laws and Orders for the Administrative Service in Bosnia and Herzegovina

(1915), Administrative Science and Administrative Law of

Bosnia and Herzegovina (1916) and Subjective public rights of citizens

and their legal regulation in both states of the Austro-

Hungarian Monarchy (1918). As the official language in BiH was

(also) German, Dr. Sladović translated his Manual… into German.

Although the manuscript was completed in 1917 (Handbuch des

Handels- und Gewerberechtes Bosniens und der Herzegovina. 1878-

1918) due to financial difficulties, the work never came out of

print, but only proofreading sheets with handwritten corrections

were found in Sladović's legacy. As Undersecretary for Religious

Affairs and Education, by order of the Provincial Government of

April 21, 1916, Dr. Eugen Sladović was appointed a teacher of constitutional

and state law at the Sharia Judicial School in Sarajevo,

which brought his book Administrative Science and Administrative

Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina into official use as a textbook.

Sladović remained at the post of a teacher at the Sharia Judicial

School in Sarajevo even after the disintegration of Austria-

Hungary until the mid-1920s. Based on his works, he is in Bosnia

and Herzegovina still considered the most meritorious person, along

with Baltazar Bogišić, for the development of modern legal thought

in B&H.

Upon his return to Zagreb, from 1921-1930 Dr. Sladović teaches

Bosnian law at the Faculty of Law as a part-time private assistant

professor and university teacher.

According to the decision of the Professors' Council of the Royal

School of Trade and Transport (dated November 5, 1924), Dr.

Eugen Sladović ... until it follows the proposed appointment (not

even a month later, remark of the author) to the post of public full

professor - is appointed as of 10/1/1924 as a substitute teacher

(suplent)… to the Chair of Legal Sciences. The following academic

year 1925/1926 Dr. Sladović was elected Dean of the STT, so that

after the transformation into the School of Economics and Commerce

(January 1, 1926) he became its first dean. In addition to

this official mandate, Dr. Sladović was the Rector of the School of

Economics and Commerce from 1931-1932 and 1938-1941, Rector

of the Croatian School of Economics and Commerce 1941-

1944, and Vice-Rector 1944-1945, Dean of SEC 1934-1936, and

Vice-Dean of SEC 1926-1927 and 1930-1931. In addition, from

1931-1945 he was the head of the Legal and Political Institute of

SEC / CSEC.

During the war years in Herzegovina, a terrible famine ensued

throughout the region from which children suffered the most. Dr.

Sladović, besides all his official and scientific work, along with

Fra Didak Buntić, Dr. Đuro Basariček, Dr. Josip Šilović, and historian

Hamdija Kreševljaković, was deeply involved in the action of

rescuing 17,000 starving Herzegovinian children by relocating

and adopting them in Slavonia.

As part of the project of the Croatian Science Foundation Setting up

and Development of the Center for Structural and Nonlinear Macroeconomic

Modeling (MacroHub), UIP-2017-05-6785, a workshop entitled

Structural Time series and Factor Models was held on June 17, 2021, at

the Faculty of Economics & Business. The two-hour workshop was

led by Professor Junsoo Lee from the American University of Alabama

and was attended by about thirty participants from the Faculty

of Economics & Business, the Croatian National Bank, and other

universities and institutions in Croatia.

The workshop was divided into two parts - a theoretical part in

which Professor Lee made an introduction to the topic of structural

time series and factor models, and an empirical part in which he

presented the results of empirical research using these methods.

15

Organized by Prof. Josip Tice, Ph.D., and Assist. Prof. Vladimir

Arčabić, Ph.D., from the Department of Macroeconomics and Economic

Development, from June 8 to 15, 2021, an online workshop

Nonlinear econometrics and machine learning was held, conducted

by Professor Irina Panovska from the University of Texas, USA.

The current topic attracted as many as 60 participants from various

institutions - the Faculty of Economics & Business in Zagreb, the

Croatian National Bank, the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management

in Opatija, the Institute of Public Finance, the Institute of

Tourism, and from the private sector.

The workshop began with an introduction to the use of the R program

and several examples of forecasting and estimating the VAR model.

The second day of the workshop was dedicated to VAR models and

more advanced variants of the VAR model extremely useful to practical

researchers. The professor explained the approach of constraints

on the signs of impulse response functions and the estimation of

VAR models with variable parameters. The third day of the workshop

was a continuation of VAR models and processed VAR models with

threshold and local projections that approximate impulse response

functions, while the fourth day was reserved for very new and current

topics on estimating local projections using machine learning tools.

The professor demonstrated LASSO and Ridge regressions and their

practical application. On the last day of the workshop, broader topics

in the field of machine learning were addressed, such as model averaging

of trees and forests.
