His Story
Kenya Anthony Harrison was born on February 21, 1973 as the only beloved son to
Loula and Kenneth Harrison in Newnan, Georgia. He spent his early years in the Metro
Atlanta and Columbus, Ohio areas, returning to Metro Atlanta during his elementary
school years where he attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church School, Mother
Church of African American Catholics. He made many friends at this school and was
quick to share stories of how rich his experiences were there.
He was blessed to have been able to participate in activities at the nearby YMCA,
seeing dignitaries come to and fro from Ebenezer Baptist Church and the King Center,
seeing Mrs. Coretta Scott King on a regular basis, and even having met her mother on
one occasion. He also frequently told stories of how he and his friends grew up during
the Atlanta Child Murder era and how his mother, his beloved stepfather Greggory
Davenport, and other OLL parents checked in at the YMCA daily to make sure that
their children arrived safely, unbeknownst to Kenya and his classmates.
Being an extremely bright child, he was offered scholarships to attend some of
Atlanta's most prestigious private schools but he opted to stay local and attend the public
high school nearest his home, Morrow High School. Attending a public school was a
new experience for him, and he absolutely relished in it! He made even more life long
connections as a Morrow Mustang fueled by him being "Mr. Personality", a football
player, rap group "G Phi G" member, jokester and more!
He really didn't take school or his grades too seriously because he knew as a young
person that he wanted to be an entrepreneur, but after seeing the Spike Lee film, "School
Daze" depicting the experiences of students attending HBCUs (Historically Black
Colleges & Universities), he changed his mind and applied to several colleges. But let's
be clear, his main motivation was not education, it was having fun and meeting girls!
He was accepted into his mother's alma mater of Fort Valley State College (now Fort
Valley State University) and after being accepted, that campus has never been the same!
Kenya and a few of his MHS Alumni headed further south to Middle Georgia and he
formed more life long bonds while obtaining his degree in Biology from FVSU. He
was also blessed to become a father to his oldest child, Kalon, a responsibility that he
took very seriously as a young man.
Before, during and after graduating college, Kenya had an illustrious corporate
career working for various esteemed employers like Kroger, Sprint, Cox Cable,
WalMart, Geico, Bank of America, as a Re/Max realtor, and Title Max. But his true
calling was entrepreneurship. His claim to fame was being the master of "turning
nothing into something", and "making something" he certainly did!
He sharpened his natural "hustler" skills by founding and co-founding Heroes on the
Hill Nightclub, Urban Dynasty record label, Auto Vault Auto Sales, JWTz Wings,
Harrison Battle Enterprises, which is the umbrella for his real estate investing and
logistics/trucking companies.
But don't think that Kenya's life was strictly business. He loved being his own
boss, bossing others, and controlling his own fate but he also loved having fun and
being the life of the party, and developing relationships and friends. All of these
natural instincts were satisfied in a very special culture that he became part of about
ten years ago: The Bike Set. Ken was a true "Alpha Male" and loved anything
Harley Davison. He and four biker brothers (one being his "brother from another
mother" from high school, Steve Reeves) were the founding members The Kingz of
the South - Macon. Kenya, who by that time was known as "KP", turned nothing
into something" again by going from the founding five to thirty members quickly.
This MC was extremely popular, attending and hosting many events, parties,
anniversaries and such. And guess who "the face" of the Kingz was? You've got it,
KP! At the time of his transitioning, Kenya was not an active MC member, but he
loved his Kingz/bike set days and attributed his experiences with his biker family to
making him a better person, father, and man.
In 2020, Ken (as he was known in professional circles), married the love of his
life, Jill Harrison and moved to Oglethorpe, Ga. The Harrisons were/are a power
couple who hit the ground running, becoming actively involved within the
community in their local church, Oglethorpe Baptist, in local civic organizations
and they co-founded a non-profit with a cohort of 5 other community members
called the Macon County Improvement Coalition (MCIC). Ken made it well
known that his intentions were to become Oglethorpe's first Black Mayor. Because
of his passing, those aspirations will not be fulfilled, but Ken has undoubtedly left an
indelible footprint on Macon County, Middle Georgia, Metro Atlanta & the world.
Ken reached another milestone in 2020. He became a published author! God
Looks Out For Fools is his masterpiece, a semi-autobiographical novel that
chronicles some of the ups and downs and trials and triumphs of his colorful life!
Ken's purpose was to help make sure that everyone reached their goals and that
they were "winning" and no one who has experienced his aura has walked away
being uninspired and not wanting to be a better person.
Harrison style and watch over us eternally!
