September is a curiosity month at Sekolah
Pelita Bangsa. At Sekolah Pelita Bangsa,
we constantly encourage our students,
staff and teachers to continuously learn
and explore various areas and disciplines.
We support our older students to
explore the programs and disciplines
offered by many universities and
institutions participating in our annual
SPB International Education Expo, join
and create virtual clubs to sharpen their
organizational skills as well as has a
platform to learn and share their interest
and hobby, as well as sharing different
activities and competitions outside
Sekolah Pelita Bangsa that they could join.
Let’s continue to foster curiosity and
growth mindset beyond the month of
September.

As a means to support high school
students across Indonesia planning
for their future, Sekolah Pelita Bangsa
Cirebon conducted an event On
Saturday, 25 September 2021. The
event's title is Sekolah Pelita Bangsa
International Education Expo 2021
Online Info Session, focused on
facilitating students across Indonesia to
connect with numerous universities and
educational institutions from around the
world.
Aside from the Online Info Session,
as the part of the event we also held a
series of events called Online Workshop.
This online event is intended to enrich
students with new skills and knowledge
from various disciplines and provided
by various universities and educational
institutions. With this event, we aim
to equip students with added value
and deepen their understanding about
topics related with certain disciplines or
university majors.
The goal of the event is to provide
students with information and insights
regarding the higher education
admission process. A total of 33
universities and institutions were
participating in this online education fair
to greet and help students gain insights
about their future education plans.
Through this event, we hope that
students understand how important it
is to enrich their knowledge regarding
majors and university options available,
so they would have more options and
considerations for their education plan.

Distributions
On Tuesday, September 4 2021, we had
the Medal & Certificate Distributions,
and we conducted a drive thru photo
session for our awardee in AIMO 2021.
Medals and Certificates were awarded
for the high achiever in the Asia
International Mathematical Olympiad
(AIMO) 2021. Parents proudly gave the
medal and certificate to their children.
We hope our students always develop
their mathematical skills and are ready
to face another competition in the
future.
Congratulations to our students, keep it
up. You are doing a great job!

this academic year. Most of the clubs
are initiated and facilitated by the
students, however, there are also clubs
facilitated by our faculty members.
SPB virtual clubs is one of the platforms
for students to share
interests, skills, and knowledge
to other students as well as to
gain knowledge and community
experiences. It's also a good chance
for the initiator students to practice
their leadership and managerial

Make the Most of a Parent - Teacher
Conference
By Lee Ann Karg
Parents of children with attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) should do
more than listen, nod, and smile during a
parent-teacher conference.
3. LOOK TO PRAISE. Share any positive
comments you’ve heard from your child
about the teacher, class, or classroom to
set a constructive tone for the meeting.

struggling, or any concerns you would
like to discuss.
7. HAVE A LIST. Make a written list of
your main questions and concerns. Give
a copy to the teacher, and include all of
your contact information. If you run out
of time, ask that any unaddressed items
or concerns be responded to by e-mail.
8. BRING AN ACTION PLAN. Prioritize
your concerns and the steps that you feel
should be taken to ensure that your child
reaches his educational potential
for the school year, and give a copy to the
teacher. Make sure you leave the meeting
knowing the next steps that will be taken
to help your child succeed.
9. RESPECT THE NEXT PARENT. If you
run out of conference time, schedule a
follow-up meeting to address concerns
that still need to be discussed.
10. THANK THE TEACHER. Teachers
don’t get paid for the additional time,
attention, or effort they put into helping
our kids. They are underpaid and underappreciated
for what they do.
11. FOLLOW UP WITH YOUR CHILD.
A parent-teacher conference
is an opportunity to praise the
accomplishments and effort your child
has made, and to discuss any areas
that may need improvement. Use
this opportunity to create short- and
long-term goals, reinforcements, and
expectations.

actively participate, especially when
the conversation turns to school
accommodations.
1. BE ON TIME. The teacher has to
schedule conferences one after the
other. Being late wastes your time – and
suggests to the teacher that you’re not
taking the meeting seriously.
2. STAND UNITED. Whenever possible,
both parents should attend the meeting.
Showing up together demonstrates your
commitment to your child’s education.
4. STAY INFORMED. Talk with your child
to see if he has any concerns about
school – related or unrelated to his ADHD.
Look over recent assignments and tests,
so you know what he is studying and how
he is performing in class.
5. PLAN AHEAD. E-mail any concerns
to the teacher in advance, if you want a
thorough, thoughtful response.
6. BRING YOUR CHILD’S REPORT CARD.
Most schools plan parent-teacher
conferences for after the first progress
reports or report cards are sent home.

KINDERGARTEN CORNER
Our nursery students were introduced to
the library in their field trip visit to Allen
Public Library on September 1, 2021.
Students enjoyed the activities. There
are a lot of books in the library. Students
learned about numbers, different kinds
of books, policies, and many more. They
made a school bus photo frame to wrap
the day.
Take our students to the library can make
a huge difference in their reading life.
And by encourage students to read, they
will be more invested in making it a daily
habit.
Kindergarten 1 had a Virtual Field Trip
to the Fire Station. They explore the
fire station and fire trucks with Blippi.
Students learn all about fire fighter,
ambulance, and more!
Meanwhile, they sang a song related
to the themed "Hurry Hurry Fire Truck",
heard a story and made a Fire ghter
Crown. Lastly they play the Fire Fighter
puzzle. What a funtastic day!

PRIMARY 1 HEALTH CHECK
AND IMMUNIZATION
Primary 1 students had a health check
and immunization as regulated by the
government on September 25, 2021. It
was conducted drive thru to ensure and
to comply with the health protocols for
everyone's safety.
In this occasion, we collaborated with
representatives from Puskesmas Gunung
Sari. The representatives are a dentist
and general practitioners.
