Community says thanks<br />
Signs erected in Cumberland region to thank frontline COVID workers<br />

Signs have been erected around<br />
the Cumberland region, thanking<br />
frontline and essential workers for<br />
their sacrifice throughout the pandemic.<br />
Cumberland City Councillor Ola Hamed<br />
put forward the motion and said it was<br />
important the Council acknowledged<br />
their efforts during this particularly difficult<br />
time.<br />
“COVID-19 has now touched each and<br />
every one of us in one way or another,” she<br />
said.<br />
“The people caring for our community<br />
during this difficult time are frontline and<br />
essential workers and I’d like to express<br />
thanks to them.<br />
“Nurses, doctors, hospital workers,<br />
paramedics, firies, police, teachers, the<br />
Australian Defence Force, taxi drivers,<br />
bus drivers, truck drivers, finance workers,<br />
our own staff and many more have<br />
and continue to put their lives on the line<br />
to ensure our community is taken care of.<br />
“In times of crisis we start to show who<br />
we truly are and frontline essential workers<br />
have certainly demonstrated that they<br />

are the bravest, most compassionate, and<br />
generous people there are.<br />
“Thank you for serving and caring for our<br />
society in this pandemic, and every day.”<br />
Councillors unanimously supported the<br />
motion and banners were swiftly manufactured.<br />
Councillor Michael Zaiter welcomed the<br />
motion and said he hopes it brings a smile<br />
to those essential workers as they drive<br />
past.<br />
“They play a vital role in our community<br />
and if we don’t thank them, we’re worse as<br />
individuals,” he said.<br />
The signs have now been installed<br />
around frontline workplaces such as the<br />
ambulance depots in Auburn and Merrylands,<br />
Auburn, Merrylands and Granville<br />
Police Stations and hospitals at Auburn<br />
and Westmead.<br />
“I know it might often be a thankless job<br />
but please know there are so many of us<br />
out here that are so appreciative of you,”<br />
Cr Hamed said.<br />
“I cannot even begin to imagine the world<br />
you have been living in during COVID.<br />
Please know our thoughts are with you.<br />
You have all our love and support, and our<br />
thanks.”<br />
