register for the new site. If you cannot locate your account number,

please email laustin@grahammanagementhouston.com or call 713-334-

but is the main resource for residents of VLP for important information.

MONTHLY HOA MEETINGS:

It is your forum to ask questions, share suggestions and stay connected

with neighbors and planned activities.

When: The first Monday evening of each month (except on Holidays and

in December) at 6 PM.

Where: Meetings are being held via Zoom until further notice. Please

visit the community website for information on how to access the Zoom

meetings as well as to verify the meeting dates, view previous meeting

We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting!

subject to arrest and/or loss of pool privileges. While there are no longer

any Covid restrictions limiting capacity, please note that only two nonresident

guests per household are permitted at the pool at any one time

and only when accompanied by a resident. Children under the age of 14

must be accompanied by an adult and, of course, animals are not allowed

to go into the pool. A complete list of rules is posted at the pool. Please

refer to the neighborhood website for complete information. The Pool

Management Company is Pools by Dallas- 713-932-8803. Please contact

Graham Management for issues with pool cards and/or gate issues.

• Call 713-221-6000 with non-emergency issues and 911 with

emergencies. • At all times, be aware of your surroundings. Always lock

your vehicle and promptly remove packages and deliveries from your

doorstep. • Please be aware of your surroundings at all times. Always lock

TREES AND SIDEWALKS

As a reminder, it is the responsibility of the homeowner to trim the trees on their property.

This includes the trees on the outside of the sidewalk that lines the property. Many have

overgrown tree branches that hang down and pose a danger to pedestrians. A related

concern is the condition of sidewalks that have become significantly uneven, largely from

tree roots, soil erosion, etc. Like the low hanging branches, these uneven sidewalks also pose

a risk to pedestrians. A homeowner would be liable for any injury caused by low hanging

branches and faults in the sidewalks on their property. Thank you again to those who are

taking the necessary steps to trim trees and fix uneven sidewalks as well as removing/

replacing freeze-damaged landscape on their property.

In the common areas, Graham Management is responsible for arranging for any needed

repairs not only to trees and sidewalks but also to any damaged or dead landscape.

Thank you for doing your part as a homeowner to keep VLP a great place to live!

PET OWNER FRIENDLY REMINDERS

Please remember to adhere to county laws regarding your pet by always having your pet on

a leash when outside of your house or backyard. This is a law in Harris County; details can be

found under Animal Regulations at public health.harriscountytx.gov.

This is a safety precaution as well, due to the drainage ditch that runs through VLP and can

be a place where coyotes and other animals can be found.

Additionally, please pick up after your pet. Germs and disease can be spread in fecal matter,

not to mention the mess it causes when stepped in. Trash cans have been installed in

common areas in VLP for your convenience. Be a good neighbor and pick up your pet waste,

including other resident’s yards and walking paths.

fun crafts to do

for halloween

www.goodhousekeeping.com

1. Start with the right pumpkin.

Choose one that's fresh, with a sturdy stem, no bruises, and a

flat bottom so it won't roll while you carve.

2. Cut from the bottom, not the top. Michael

Natiello, pumpkin carving pro and creative director for The Great

Jack-o'-Lantern Blaze, says cutting your "lid" from the bottom of

the pumpkin helps prevent the sides from caving in later.

3. If you do carve from the top, cut out the lid

on an angle. This way it won't drop inside the pumpkin

when you put it back on top, like it would with a straight upand-down

cut. A boning knife should work well for this.

4. Scoop out all the pulp (and then some). You

can buy a special "claw" for pumpkin gutting, but an ice cream

scoop will do just fine. Thin the inner wall of the "face" area to

1¼-inch thick, so it will be easier to pierce the shell.

5. Sketch out your design on paper first. If you

draw your jack-o'-lantern face to size, Natiello says you can

use it as a pattern: Just tape it to the front of your pumpkin

and use a fork or pencil to poke holes along the lines you want

to carve. (Or save yourself from creative blocks by getting a

pumpkin carving kit, complete with a marker, scraper, cutting

tools, and pre-made patterns.)

6. Hold the pumpkin in your lap. It's easier to create

features when the face is gazing up at you. Natiello suggests

using a serrated kitchen knife or an X-Acto knife for carving,

but to make intricate designs, you could try using a small saw.

Just don't cut on a slant — clean up-and-down slices look best.

How to carve a pumpkin

7. Start by making simple rough cuts. If you get

the big pieces of pumpkin out of the way first, you can go back

and clean up the edges of your design later.

8. Use your scraps creatively. Make a tongue, pipe,

or hair accessories out of a discarded piece of pumpkin shell,

for example.

9. Keep your pumpkin fresh. Natiello recommends

spreading petroleum jelly on the cut edges to seal in moisture.

If your pumpkin still shrivels a few days later, you can revive it

with a facedown soak in cold water for up to eight hours.

10. Create a chimney. First, leave the lid on for a few

minutes while the candle burns. Then make a small hole where

the lid has blackened. Or, save yourself the stress and go with

battery-operated votives instead.

11. Sprinkle cinnamon inside the lid. That way,

when you light the candle, your jack-o'-lantern will smell like

a pumpkin pie. Yum.

Hanging Bat Craft

Here’s a simple hanging bat craft for kids using empty toilet paper rolls. These

adorable cardboard tube bats are a great way for kids to help decorate for

fall or Halloween. They also make a great activity to go with the children’s

book, Stellaluna! (Free bat wing template is provided on website www.

buggyandbuddy.com.)

How to Make the Bat Craft

1. Paint your cardboard tube either black or brown (depending on the color

bat you’d like to make). This is our favorite tempera paint to use. I love the

colors and it doesn’t have a strong paint odor like other tempera paints.

2. While the cardboard tube is drying, draw some bat wings onto

construction paper and cut them out. (If you don’t want to draw them

yourself, you can use our bat wing template.)

3. Glue the wings onto the back of the cardboard tube.

4. Cut out some little triangles from your construction paper to make

ears. Glue these onto the bat, along with some googly eyes. Use a marker

to draw a mouth.

5. Punch two holes in the bottom of your cardboard tube. This is where

the legs will go.

6. Cut a black pipe cleaner in half. Twist one end of each pipe cleaner

through each punched hole.

7. To make the feet, snip off the last inch of each leg. Wrap the one-inch

piece of pipe cleaner around the bottom of each leg. Fold the middle part

of the foot to make a hook for hanging.

8. Hang your bat up for fall or Halloween!
