“The Butterfly Patch”... sneak peak
Girgarre Gazette October pg 3
Co-ordinator’s Catch-up
Hello everyone,
As October is mental health month, it is a timely reminder to look out
for each other as I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that
Covid Fatigue has hit many of us quite hard. This has been evident in
the way people are treating each other. I have witnessed and experienced
people being extremely rude. This is not acceptable on any
occasion, but especially now when many of us are feeling vulnerable.
So please remember be kind to one another and if you can not
say anything nice, be quiet and walk away. And yes, I do say this to
my children on a daily basis, so do
not know how effective these
words really are.
On a more positive and happier note I would like to wish my right-hand
woman a very happy birthday for the 14th. Happy birthday Debra, I
would be lost here without you. We want you to know that we (and
especially the seniors) appreciate everything you do. Have a fabulous
day on Thursday and I promise I will not work you too hard.
Down to business;

Stage one of The Butterfly Patch is near completion, we will have
an official opening when it is completed. A few photos to show
you the progress.
We require a few bodies for our lawn mowing program. If you
are able to push a mower or wield a whipper snipper and have a
few hours free on a Wednesday, please contact me. It could be weekly, monthly or quarterly-but
remember many hands make light work and we do this for community members who can no longer
do it for themselves.
Workshops. We are organising some workshops and are seeking expressions of interest, so if any of the
following sound appealing, please contact us to register your interest. Note, they will not run until early
2022.
1. Mosaics-$100p/p. Everything provided. Create two tiles, one to learn techniques and a masterpiece
to display. Duration 4 hours, maximum class size 10 people. Multiple classes can be held if required.
2. Macramé-Cotton Dreamer $130p/p . Create a wall hanging and
Open Gardens Festival 2021
Girgarre Gazette October pg 4
GIRGARRE COMMUNITY NEWS
Despite forging ahead with positive thoughts and a 'can do' attitude, we have unfortunately decided
that the 'Open Gardens Festival - Girgarre & Surrounds', that was scheduled for Sunday
24th October 2021, will now be postponed until Sunday 3rd April 2022.
After long lockdowns and tough times, we are disappointed that we are not able to provide an
enjoyable experience for people. However, the rules and regulations surrounding people visiting
private properties and the increased risk to our small community, with Covid cases increasing in
the regions, we feel this was our only option.
We will be in touch early in the new year. Until then, please feel free to check out our Facebook
Page 'Open Gardens Festival - Girgarre & Surrounds' for updates.
We also welcome anyone who would like to share their own gardens to please send a photo (with
caption and location) to opengardensfestival@outlook.com . On the 24th of October we hope to
bring some happiness to everyone with a Facebook post full of amazing gardens.
Thanks for your time. Kind Regards, Open Gardens Festival Committee Members
News from Many Makers Gallery Stanhope
Many Makers Gallery is 1 year old! I don’t know if the last year is worth celebrating, but let’s
hope our 2 nd year will be a success!
September has brought some warmer (windy) weather and the colour exploding in gardens is
almost on par with the colour inside the gallery! It’s a riot of colour in here!
With Christmas approaching, take some quality time and browse the wonderful range on offer
– the more you look, the more you will see. Gift vouchers are also available.
New to Many Makers Gallery in September are Leanne Cuffe and Jamie Ould. Jamie creates
soft toys and quirky decorative pieces. Leanne is from Tongala and her love for Billy Buttons is
evident in this beautiful pen
& watercolour artwork.
You will find MMG at
27 Birdwood Ave Stanhope.
Opening hours are Thursday
& Friday 10am to 3pm+ and
Holiday by the River
We should have known.
Sharing holidays with grandchildren was wonderful. We took a couple of our grandsons up Trentham
way in Victoria – a great place to camp for families. The people were friendly and camping was new to
the youngest boy, Sammy, four. His older brother Shane, six, had been before with his cousin Suzi. They
were our daughter’s children and she needed a small break as she had just had another child. The boys
could be a handful.
We had purchased a little caravan which needed a paint before it was shifted to the holiday place. We
were all so excited to be going, as Pa wanted to teach the boys how to fish. The brothers had not come
with us both together before, and Shane was telling Sammy that sometimes you would see the fish
jumping out above the water.
The main camp was perfectly set in a small clearing in the bush that opened up to a flat riverbed. Pa
liked to cook on a gas ring, then have a fire to share with a few people at the camp. Smoke would slowly
drift into the sunny blue sky of the crisp winter days. We loved listening to the birds and wild life. Not
too far away was a dairy farm and we could hear the cattle mooing in the distance. They also had chickens
with the rooster crowing first thing in the morning to let us know the sun was rising. Pure peace and
calm to enjoy the country life.
One morning, unbeknown to us, the boys decided to get up early – about five a.m. – and go rabbiting.
Unfortunately, they didn’t say anything to Nan and Pa. They just slipped out of the camp unseen. Can
you imagine us grandparents when we discovered this! Going to wake our little boys and – Gone! Oh,
no! The panic!
The alarm sounded and the whole camp went out looking for them. Think of the danger! Being right
near a river, with long grass, possibly snakes – but adventurous boys as they were, they didn’t even
think of this. They just wanted to “catch rabbits”. Sightseeing and adventure were on the menu that
morning.
Our camping friends joined us in searching, calling, whistling – for a good hour or so until we finally
found them, safely playing on the giant slide built on the side of a large hill. And no rabbits!
That was a frightening lesson well learnt: to be more aware of how young the boys were and in need of
guidance and boundaries. Everyone went back to camp and we gave all the volunteers a breakfast of
tea and toast in gratitude around the campfire.
Education Matters: Girgarre Community Kindergarten
What a finish to term three. The children (and their households) engaged with the kindergarten through
zoom mini-group sessions throughout the recent lockdown. It was a fantastic way for educators to stay
connected with children and their families and along the zoom journey we learnt many things about the
children including what pets they have to favourite story books they enjoy at home.
With lockdown 7.0 restrictions lifting- children returned to onsite kindergarten for the last week of term
three. It was a delight to see all children who returned to kindergarten with a big smile on their face and a
spring in their step as they arrived at kindergarten! The last week of term three we celebrated (the postponed)
Book Week. The children explored different story books through drama and art throughout the
week. The last day of term three we encouraged children to dress-up as a book character. The children
looked fabulous!
Children also enjoyed a virtual visit to Kyabram Fauna Park on the last day of term three where Ranger
Katelyn showed the children the emu, koala and echidna as well as learning many different amazing facts
about the animals and asking lots of questions. We may have some budding rangers in the future .
I received some very exciting news from Girgarre Community Kindergarten’s new management, Shine
Bright, a few days prior to the end of term three. Shine Bright were successful with applying for a Refurbishment
and Minor Works (Major Grants Stream) grant. Girgarre Community Kindergarten will receive
$136,500.00 to replace floor coverings, painting the interior and exterior walls of the kindergarten and
replace sections of the kindergarten’s roof as well as identified works that the Department determined
with a building inspection earlier in the year. We are not sure when the works will begin but will keep the
kindergarten community updated as news comes to hand.
We look forward to a busy yet festive term four, Robyn Swan, Lead Educator.

Gargarro Botanic Garden-School Holiday Program
Avis and Loraine ran a school holiday program during the September holidays on Monday, Wednesday
and Fridays from 9.30-1.30. It required a gold coin donation, the children were to bring a drink bottle &
fruit. The children were split into groups according to their age. Check out these fabulous photos.
