Making the world a more loving place ...
A note from CEO Ray Ratke &
Board Chair Rick Goeres
The people we serve are thriving, thanks to your support.
Once again, we offer our thanks for you during an unprecedented time in our shared
communities. And, as always, it has been through your faithful support that the
children, families, and adults we serve each day have thrived, despite the challenges
that we all face at this time. Our staff and caregivers have acted carefully,
endeavoring to embrace our world’s new normal, as you have with your family. We are
grateful for your support, which has empowered our mission to serve the most vulnerable
members of our shared communities at this most important time.
For enCircle, there have been far more victories than stumbling blocks over the past
year. Our Minnick School students and educators have been resilient, flourishing
despite the fluctuation between virtual and in-person learning. We have celebrated
seven adoptions from our Treatment Foster Care program and over 20 children placed
with loving families. Our practitioners provided counseling care and support to 36
adoptive families and 184 outpatient mental health clients this year, using telehealth
technology to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19. Group Home residents and In-
Home Support clients have celebrated birthdays, holidays, and day-to-day milestones
within their homes, and later, within their larger communities, according to safety
guidelines. We are proud to say that 100% of our Group Home residents were
vaccinated to maintain their health and safety this spring. We celebrated the victories
and worked through the challenges of this time.
As we look back on 2020-2021, it has also been a time of growth and vitality for
enCircle programs. We began the year by adding the seven Group Homes of
Stonebrook Community Services, LLC in Martinsburg, WV, to the enCircle family. We
are excited to expand our services in a region found to be a strong fit for our
mission. In the spring of 2021, enCircle identified former Treatment Foster Care
program leader Maurice Gallimore to lead our growing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
efforts for the organization. Maurice brings 18 years of enCircle relationships and
experience to help us grow and learn from each other. In December 2021, we are
delighted to open our eighth Virginia-based Group Home in Fairfax, VA. This project is
in collaboration with Marian Homes, Inc. a fellow nonprofit which shares our mission
to serve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our Immigration and
Refugee Services program continues to grow. As we currently serve unaccompanied
youth through the Safe Release and the Home Study Post Release programs, we are
also awaiting response on grant opportunities to serve unaccompanied children and
teens in finding safe and loving guardians, as they await reunification with family. We
are excited by these expanding opportunities for impact across the Commonwealth
and in West Virginia.
We don't know exactly what the next year will hold, but we are confident enCircle will
persist through any challenges, thanks to your unwavering support. Thank you for
entrusting us with your many gifts of time, talent, and treasure. We are proud to
share our financial and programmatic outcomes with you in this annual report.
Blessings for peace and health to you and yours,
