MATERIAL AND
MANUFACTURING
TOLERANCES

1
MATERIAL MANUFACTURERS
Manmade surfaces such as quartz, ceramic
and solid surface all have their own material
tolerances.
Each manufacturer has their own set tolerances
to which they stand by.
These tolerances can include such things as
slab/sheet size, thickness, imperfections,
scratches and more.
If you would like to know more about the
tolerances of the material chosen, please feel
free to ask a member of the team and they will
provide you with whatever they can.

2
NATURAL STONE
Natural stones such as granite, quartzite and
marble are naturally occurring products quarried
from all around the world.
We do not have any control over the patterning,
colourations or size of the slabs we import.
Therefore, all natural stone is supplied subject
to varying degrees of pitting, colour variations
and natural markings.
Stone cannot be rejected due to natural
markings or features which are not deemed as
detrimental to the performance of the material.
For natural stone orders, we recommend
requesting a visualisation prior to manufacturing
for client approval.

3
INDUSTRY TOLERANCES
Our manufacturing tolerances are +/-2mm
unless otherwise stated.
This is an industry standard and covers the
entire process from templating through to
installation.
Please bear this in mind particularly when
opting for a flush fitting sink cut out. The edge
of the cut out may not run completely flush with
the side of the sink.

4
BOOK-MATCHING
Book-matching is where two pieces of material
are used to create a symmetrical pattern. The
symmetry of this pattern is subject to our
standard tolerances of +/-2mm.
Natural materials have their own inherent
variations which make it highly unlikely that
perfect symmetry is achievable.
Ceramic products have a tolerance which
means the printing of the pattern can vary from
slab to slab. If this is the case, a perfectly
symmetrical book-match cannot be created.

5
VISUALISATIONS
We create our visualisation by photographing
our slabs and editing the images in a specialist
software.
The camera used to photograph the slabs has
its own tolerance as well as the photograph
software.
The machines we use to process the material
each have their own tolerances.
Overall, the tolerance from visualization to
manufactured parts is +/-20mm therefore what
is shown in the visualisation may not be exactly
the same as what is manufactured.

6
SPLASHBACK VISUALISATIONS
In our visualisations any splashbacks are usually
positions directly behind the worktop they are
intended to adjoin to.
Where this is the case, you should be aware that
as the splashback is sitting on top of the worktop,
the pattern will be misaligned in comparison to
what is shown in the visualisation.
The splashback will overlap the back of the
worktop therefore covering the pattern. This cannot
be shown in the visualisation.

7
MITRES
Where mitred downstands and/or panels have
been requested, please note that the pattern
from one part to another is not completely
seamless in terms of material patterning.
The material pattern may not line up perfectly
from part to part as the example indicates here.
The misalignment will vary depending on the
pattern of the material.

8
INSTALLATION
Our standard lead time from templating to
installation is 5 working days - this is the case
for granite and quartz work surfaces. For
timber, solid surface and ceramic work
surfaces, the standard lead time is 10-14
working days.
Please note that non-standard edge details and
labour intensive orders may take longer to
manufacture. A member of the team will
contact you at the earliest opportunity to inform
you if this is the case.
Between 24 and 48 hours prior to the agreed
installation date, we will contact you with an
estimated time slot for the installation.

9
WORKTOP JOINTS
The width of a worktop joint can be affected by
many factors. The industry standard and width
which is deemed acceptable is 2-3mm.
Our installation teams will always aim to achieve
the smallest joint width as possible.
All of our worktop joints are bonded using a
two-part resin glue, designed to offer superior
support and longevity.
