World Choir Games for all !
Special attention for vulnerable target groups
Both in the run-up to the World Choir Games and during the World Choir Games, a
number of special initiatives have been set up to facilitate the involvement of vulnerable
target groups.
Thanks to a collaboration with Refu Interim and Fedasil, the right framework can
be provided during the World Choir Games to give newcomers and refugees in our
country the opportunity to enjoy the festival, not in the least as volunteers. You will
encounter them during the Games as venue staff during the competitions and workshops.
Where on the one hand their language skills can be an asset in an international
festival, we on the other hand also offer them the chance to participate in the cultural
life. Volunteer work is also an important help in starting the job search and building a
network, both important parts of the integration process, but also important for their
mental well-being. For many, the great attraction to volunteering during the World
Choir Games lies in the central role of music in this festival, as the passion for music
can be shared across all borders and differences.
Some special collaborations have also been set up for the Celebration Concerts. The
“Out of the Voice box” concert is a collaboration with SHOUT at Cancer which works to
help cancer patients who have undergone a laryngectomy. The concert calls special
attention to anyone for whom singing, and by extension any artistic expression, can be
a way to find their voice again, literally and figuratively.
Physical accessibility of the World Choir Games
For both participants and audiences, the accessibility of the event is strictly monitored
during the World Choir Games. Whether it‘s wheelchair accessibility of the stages, the
use of hearing loop systems for the hearing impaired, or accommodating costs, the
World Choir Games team of Koor&Stem researched as many ways as possible to provide
the right facility, guidance, planning, or accommodations for everyone. Koor&Stem
did not do this alone, however, but consulted experts for advice and assistance.
In collaboration with On Wheels, the World Choir Games team of Koor&Stem mapped
out the wheelchair accessibility of all venues and routes (based on measurements
and photographs). This information will also be available after the World Choir Games
and can be consulted via a mobile application in eight different languages during the
World Choir Games.
