EXTERIOR MODIFICATIONS REQUESTS
Exterior Modifications Requests are required for any/all
modifications being done to the exterior of your property BEFORE
work can begin. Applications are located on the Crest Management
website; you must be a registered owner on the Crest Management
website to begin the process. Beginning October 15, 2021, the
Board of Directors have implemented Crest Management to
complete the review process for all exterior modifications and a
review fee of $75 is due at the time of application. Any modification
started/completed without prior approval will be held accountable
to governing document standards. Without prior approval, could
cause you potential legal ramifications, so be sure to complete the
application process and receive your approval!!!

Have you heard? Don’t feed the ducks in the community!! Copper
Grove Board of Directors have implemented a Fine Policy for
feeding the ducks and other feral animals within the community.

Street parking is not allowed per our governing documents.
Owners and residents should utilize their garage and driveway,
without blocking a pedestrian sidewalk. It may time to get
used to moving vehicles around, but this is for the safety of all
residents and visitors alike. Typical home services may utilize
the street during the day hours that they are there to perform
work on your home. Private events at your home can still occur,
just have your guests be mindful of parking as to allow traffic
flow and emergency vehicles a clear path.

Harris County Animal Services does not handle wildlife issues.
They handle problems with domestic animals, namely dogs and
cats. If you have a complaint about a barking dog or a dangerous
dog or have any questions about lost pets, stray cats, pet
adoptions, leash laws, etc, give the county a call. It is a free county
service for domestic animal issues. The county will not take care
of the raccoon in your yard, the squirrels in your attic, your rat
infestation or anything like that. For wildlife help, see our phone

What to do when your neighbor’s dog won’t stop barking in
Houston - Is your neighbor’s dog keeping you up at all hours of the
night and day with its incessant barking? There is nothing worse,
especially when you or your kids are trying to sleep! Perhaps the
dog barking is setting off your dog and all you can hear all day is a
chorus of bad barking? Whatever the case is - you have rights and
there are some steps that you should take in order to get the barking
to stop. You will probably want to avoid actually confronting the
neighbor as this can often end up in a rather heated debate. You
should write or type up a small note mentioning the dog barking
- nine times out of ten, the owner will be at work and probably
doesn’t even realize what is going on. Make it short, to the point
and polite - exactly how you would want someone to talk to you
if your dog was making a crazy racket! If nothing happens or the
letter isn’t in some way acknowledged you can always turn to
your local housing organization or landlord if you are renting.
There will normally be noise stipulations in rental agreements,
so it is well worth finding out if your neighbors are renting and
getting in touch with their landlord as well. You will find that most
residential areas have noise control rules set in place, so don’t
be afraid to find out what your rights are. If nothing happens
from your complaint to the owner of the dog and the housing
organization, (or neither of you are renting) it’s time to take a
different approach. This time, grab some information on the noise
control in your area and print them out. Combine this in a neat
little package with another letter, basically saying exactly what the
first one did, but this time mentioning that this is the second time
that you have tried to contact them about the complaint and that
you will be taking the matter further if nothing is resolved. Again,
do not be threatening or menacing in your words or language. If
you still don’t get a positive outcome from your effort, it’s time to
call the boys in blue. You will need to remember that a dog barking
situation is not always going to be a priority for your local law
enforcement agency, buy you do still have rights so you should
report the complaint. Make yourself a log of everything that has
been going on -photos or noise clips of the dog barking, times and
dates and also how long the barking goes on for, all copies of the
correspondence you have with the owner/neighbor etc. You will
need all the evidence that you can get your hands on in order to
get your problem resolved. Get yourself a lawyer. There are ways
around this problem and if it comes to resorting to a small claims
court in order to allow your kids or yourself to get a good night’s
sleep or a nap, so be it!

Friday & Cyber
Monday
More and more people are shopping online, avoiding lines, crowds and
interactions with others, especially in this time of COVID. This has created
the perfect environment for criminals to launch scams, phishing attacks,
and other malicious activities.
The amount of money spent over this cyber weekend is escalating year
after year, and due to the COVID pandemic, it continues to escalate to
staggering numbers. Cybercriminals follow the money, and this weekend
of crazed spending provides them with the perfect opportunity to scam
a large number of people. According to Barclays, nearly a quarter of
18-34-year-olds have fallen for a Black Friday scam in the past five years
and shoppers lose on average $910 after falling victim to such frauds.
With attacks becoming more sophisticated, shoppers need to be extra
cautious when looking for the latest bargains online.
Below are 10 Cyber Safety tips to keep you safe online this Black Friday
and Cyber Monday:
1. Watch Out for Fake Websites
This is one of the most popular ways criminals will try to trick shoppers
into falling for their Black Friday and Cyber Monday scams. The fraudsters
will clone websites to dupe consumers into thinking they are shopping on
a legitimate site. The website may appear almost identical to the real site;
however, subtle changes can indicate that all is not as it seems.
A web address that ends .com or .co may be changed to a .org, images
may be pixilated, functions on the site may not work properly and the
content will often be sub-standard. It’s always worth double- checking
the address of a site to confirm its authenticity.

2. Only Use Secure Sites
Before entering any information into a website, you should always check
that the site is safe and secure. The first step is to hover your mouse over
the URL and check the validity of the web address. You should look for a
padlock symbol in the address bar and check that the URL begins with a
‘https://’ or ‘shttp://’. The ‘S’ indicates the web address has been encrypted
and secured with an SSL certificate. Without HTTPS, any data passed on
the site is insecure and could be intercepted by criminal third parties.
However, this system is not totally foolproof. Within the last year, there
has been a significant increase in the number of phishing sites using SSL
certificates. Users are advised to be extra cautious and look for further
evidence that the site is secure. You should check for a website privacy
policy, use a website safety check tool such as Google Safe Browsing, or
do a WHOIS lookup to see who owns the website.
3. Use a Credit Card for Shopping Online
When possible, it’s always best to use a credit card when shopping
online as it offers additional protection over other forms of payment. If a
fraudulent purchase is made on your credit card, there’s a good chance
your bank will reimburse you straight away. However, if a criminal steals
your debit card details, they can clear out your personal account and it
can be more difficult to reclaim the money.
4. Beware of Phishing Emails
Phishing is one of the most popular ways for criminals to steal your
personal information and there is always a massive increase in these types
of scams on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The speed, convenience and
high return on investment makes phishing one of the easiest ways for
cybercriminals to steal your personal data without you even knowing.

As Cyber Monday approaches, be wary of any emails offering cash
prizes or last-minute deals. These emails are designed to trick
shoppers into clicking on a link which may appear to come from
a well-known retailer. Trust your gut if you think there’s something
not right about the email and delete it immediately.
5. Avoid Deals That Are Too Good to Be True
Black Friday and Cyber Monday feature lots of legitimate deals
offered by trusted and reputable retailers. However, cybercriminals
know we’ll be scouring the web for the cheapest deals and they
take advantage of this by slipping in lots of fake offers.
Be wary of any emails, pop-ups, or posts on social media promising
rock bottom prices. Clicking on the link could bring you straight to
a phishing site or you may end up downloading malware onto your
device. It can be hard to distinguish between a real bargain and a
fake so it’s best to do your research to find out if the site is credible
or go directly to a brand’s website to determine if the deal is real.
It’s always worth remembering that if an offer seems too good to
be true, it usually is!
6. Use Strong Passwords
You’ll have heard it a million times, but creating a strong password
really is one of the easiest ways you can protect yourself from being
hacked online. With so many passwords to remember, it can be
tempting to use the same password for multiple accounts, however,
this puts you at great risk of having your data stolen. If hackers
can work out just one of your passwords, whether it’s a Facebook
account or online banking details, they can potentially access every
single account you have.
It’s always best to use a unique username and password for separate
online accounts so that in the unfortunate event of being phished, the
attackers won’t have access to your other online accounts. A great way
to create a longer and more complex password is to use a passphrase.
A passphrase is a sentence like string of words that is memorable to
you but difficult for anyone else to crack. The first letter of each word
will form the basis of your password and letters can be substituted
with numbers and symbols to make it even more secure.
7. Watch Out for Social Media Scams
Social media scams are rife on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The crooks
know that people are going online to specifically look for deals, so they make
it as easy as they can for shoppers to fall for their online scams. Facebook and
Twitter tend to be the favoured choice for these malicious posts and criminals
will ask shoppers to like and share their posts, so they’re boosted to the top
of news feeds and reach a wider audience. Users tend to be more trusting on
social media and it’s often more difficult to determine if a link is malicious than
it would be on a more traditional platform.
8. Avoid Public Wi-Fi When Shopping
Using public Wi-Fi to search for the best Black Friday and Cyber Monday
deals could open you up to a range of security risks. Public Wi-Fi requires no
authentication to establish a network connection, allowing fraudsters direct
access to any unsecured devices on the same open network. This enables
hackers to steal valuable information such as login passwords, credit card info
and other personal and financial details.
Unsecured Wi-Fi networks can also be used to spread malware allowing
criminals unrestricted access to everything on your device. This information
can in turn be used to commit identity fraud, or the information can be sold on
to criminal third parties.
9. Ensure All Your Software is Up To Date
Before going online to shop about for the hottest deals, you should make sure
that all your security software is up to date. This will prevent cybercriminals
from gaining access to your computer through vulnerabilities in older and
outdated systems. The installation of anti-virus software will also help detect
threats on your computer and block unauthorised users from gaining access.
10. Monitor Bank Statements for Fraudulent Activity
It’s always worth keeping a close eye on bank statements to make sure there
are no unusual transactions on your account. Criminals know that during Black
Friday and Cyber Monday there will be lots of online activity, so they hope that
any unusual debits from your account will go undetected. Typically, the crooks
will make a few initial debits for smaller amounts then go in for a larger amount
which could clean out your bank account.

French Toast
Casserole
5 cups bread cubes
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup white sugar, divided
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon margarine,
softened
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Lightly butter an 8x8 inch baking pan. Line bottom of
pan with bread cubes. In a large bowl, beat together
eggs, milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, salt and vanilla. Pour
egg mixture over bread. Dot with margarine; let stand
for 10 minutes. -- Combine remaining 2 tablespoons
sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon and sprinkle over
the top. Bake in preheated oven about 45 to 50
minutes, until top is golden.

Quinoa Stuffed Butternut Squash
with Cranberries & Kale
2 medium butternut squash about 2 1/2 pounds each
2 teaspoons olive oil divided
3/4 cup quinoa
1 1/2 cups low sodium vegetable broth or chicken broth
1 bunch kale stems removed and chopped
(about 6 lightly packed cups)
2 cloves garlic minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt plus additional for roasting squash
1/2 teaspoon black pepper plus additional for roasting squash
1 can low sodium chickpeas (15 ounces), rinsed and drained
Zest of 1 orange plus 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
1/3 cup reduced sugar dried cranberries
Grated Parmesan cheese or crumbled feta cheese, optional
Place a rack in the center of your oven and preheat
the oven to 425 degrees F. Halve the butternut
squash, scoop out the seeds, then arrange the halves
on a baking tray, cut sides up. Drizzle with 1 teaspoon
olive oil and sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper. Bake
45-55 minutes, just until the squash is fork tender.
Remove from the oven and let cool. Reduce the oven
temperature to 375 degrees.
While the squash is baking, place the broth in a small
saucepan and bring to a boil. Add the quinoa, return
to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and let simmer
for 12 minutes, until most of the broth is absorbed.
Remove from the heat and let sit, covered, for 15
minutes. Fluff with a fork, then set aside.
In a large skillet, heat the remaining 1 teaspoon olive
over medium. Add the kale and cook until wilted,
about 4 minutes, then reduce the heat to medium
low. Add the garlic, oregano, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and
1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Cook 30 additional seconds,
until is fragrant. Stir in the chickpeas, orange
zest, orange juice, cooked quinoa, and cranberries.
Once the squash is cool enough to handle, scoop out
the flesh, leaving a 1/2-inch-thick border around
the sides and a 3/4-inch border along the bottom.
Reserve the flesh for another use (or if you don’t
mind a super duper stuffed squash, mix it in with the
rest of the filling). Stuff the kale quinoa filling into
the squash halves, then return the squash to the
oven. Bake at 375 degrees until hot, about 10 additional
minutes. Sprinkle with cheese and serve warm.

Dickens Market at Cypress Creek
November 12th & 13th, 9 AM - 4 PM
This year’s annual Dickens Market features all types
of vendors from food, crafts, Christmas gifts, books,
and anything else you can think of to check off your
holiday shopping lists. The market also features carolers from the
Cypress Creek Community Chorale and guest elementary school
choirs. In addition, we have raffles for items donated by our vendors.
Raffle tickets are on sale only during the market and winners will be
contacted via phone call after the drawings take place. Winners will
have 24 hours to respond.
The market will take place as long as the pandemic has been contained
and the community center/church reopened to the public.
Please help protect our wonderful vendors and patrons who may be
more vulnerable than you by socially distancing, wearing a mask,
and washing your hands.
YMCA Turkey Dash -
A Community Tradition
November 25th
The Katy Area YMCA’s will host the 19 th Annual
YMCA Turkey Dash to be held at Monty Ballard
YMCA at Cinco Ranch Providing Fitness, Fun and Holiday Fellowship
safely for the Whole Family on Thanksgiving Day, November 25,
2021. The tradition returns for 2021 and we are excited to return
to hosting a live race that will run through the Cinco Ranch
community as in years passed. With four events to choose from,
there’s something for everyone; a 10K, 5K, 1 Mile Walk/Run, a 1
mile Kids’ Run and also a Virtual Race option. Live races will be
start and conclude at Monty Ballard YMCA at Cinco Ranch. All
registered race participants will receive a t-shirt with their race
packets and those completing their Live 10k and 5k will receive
a finisher’s medal. Youth participating in the Live 1 Mile Kids’ Run
will receive a kids’ run finisher’s medal. 5,000 participants and
more than 1,500 spectators and volunteers are expected to take
part in this year’s event. Race day highlights include 10K and 5K
awards in age categories, a post race party featuring refreshments,
local businesses, games and a Kids Fun Zone. A runners’ costume
contest will be held with awards for most creative, best theme and
judge’s choice. In addition to completing a good race, participants
have the satisfaction of knowing their race fees go toward a good
cause, the YMCA Be The Change Campaign. This annual fundraiser
ensures that Katy families have access to Y programs and services
