Born in Chicago, John was
deeply impressed by a summer
vacation that he spent visiting the
highways and byways of Ontario
as a boy. “I have never forgotten the exciting experience I had seeing
the beautiful rural landscape and meeting so many friendly people,”
says John. “I returned home with a wider horizon and an enthusiasm
to paint new subjects.” After graduating from college, John began to
free-lance, acquiring commissions to paint illustrations for
magazines and books. He and his wife Mary Anne later fulfilled their
dream of owning a place in the country. “I began to paint my favorite subjects of old-fashioned country
landscapes,” says John. For more than thirty years John has painted a popular series of art calendars, greeting
cards, jig-saw puzzles and quilting fabric collections. John Sloane’s Country Seasons calendars are
available at stores and online at www.johnsloaneart.com. Follow John Sloane Art on Facebook,
Winter 2021/22 - “Christmas at Kilbride”
In 1988, after fifteen years of doing various other forms of
commercial illustration, Lance decided to seriously take up painting in
acrylics and watercolors. His love of old machinery, especially aircraft
and automobiles, and his fascination with the elegance of the past
immediately became central to his work. Lance was born in Kitchener,
Ontario, in 1953. He uses an almost photo-realistic style to lend reality
and immediacy to events that happened long ago - or may never have
happened at all. He’s been told that his attention to research and detail, borders on fanaticism, but his main
objectives will always remain storytelling and mood. If, through his works, he can communicate his passion
for these things to others and possibly spark someone's interest, he will feel that he has been successful.
The price of gas is very high
it’s enough to make you want to cry
the big cartel keeps us folks broke
Putting gas in our car, it ain’t no joke!
So I will sell my fancy car
Since on a tank of gas I can’t get far,
then I will buy me a cart and a horse
I’m sure to save big bucks, of course.
Oil and gas I’ll need not pay
Instead a wagon load of oats and hay
My shovel won’t be for snow
But horse manure to make my flowers grow.
Now I’ll need a barn and a field with a fence
A loan from the bank makes common sense
Oh and a nice warm blanket for his back
For my horse there is nothing he will lack.
Then I’ll want a surry with a fringe on top
Now I better add up what I’ve almost bought
I’m up to big pile of bucks, I better pass
And settle for the price of gas.
