11 COUNCIL NEWS
Terry Fox welcomes budget Supertram cash
Sheffield City Council’s leader has
welcomed the news that Wednesday’s
budget will include £570m for transport
projects in South Yorkshire –including
around £200m for Sheffield.
But the council leader added that much
more government investment in public
transport would be necessary to give
Sheffield commuters a service
comparable to that enjoyed byLondonersand
make “levelling up” areality.
Cllr Terry Fox said: “This is welcome
news. We’ve fought hard for this for a
long time, and we’ll put the cash to good
use to improve Sheffielders’ transport
options.
“But we need much more than this, and
we’ll keep pressing. To unlock Sheffield’s
potential, we must have better public
transport.
“Remember that, per person, Sheffielders
still get alot less than Londoners in
government support for public transport.
“For instance the amount of funding on
buses per head inLondon is£76, but in
Sheffield this is less than £5. So the
government has along way to go before
‘levelling up’ canbemorethan aslogan.”
The fulldetail of the investment is yetto
be revealed, but is expected to see over
£200m invested in transport
improvements in Sheffield, including:
Over £100m on Supertram
Over £35m on bus priority and public
transportenhancements
Over £25m on active travel measures
Over £15m on local neighbourhood
improvements
Sheffield City Council’s One Year Plan
sees improvements in public transport as
akey part of tackling the climate crisis,
fostering sustainable economic
development and building a more
inclusive community.
12 TAROTSCOPES
Karen Glazier
www.karenglaziertarot.co.uk
ARIES 21 March -20April
Decision time! Some of them are yours to make but some
leave youatthe mercy of others. Karma plays its part and,
whatever theoutcomes, you can do no morethanaccept them.
Life is, as ever, evolving and some situations are going to change
irrevocably. Take your time to consider your next moves, weighing
carefully, where your best interestslie. New propositions come
your way but read thesmall printbefore making commitments.
TAURUS 21 April -21May
Messages received should be treated with adegreeofcaution
as somethingisn’tquite what it seems. Beware also of whom you
tellwhat to!For all there’sanelement of mistrust surrounding you
there’salso some stalwart characters giving you loads of support
and encouragement. Business and property matters are looking
good and at least one situation findsyou being exactly where you
need to be at exactly theright time. This holds promise!
GEMINI 22 May -21June
Astorm in ateacupappears to rockthe boat outofcontrol
but things aren’t as bad as theyappear. Treat allparties equally
and strive to maintain balance ensuring everyone is heard and
theirneeds taken into consideration. Ahappy outcome’s ensured
and you’ll bask in theglory of success. When all’s said and done
thepositive results are down to yourbehaviours. After that step
back and take some well-deserved‘me’ time.
CANCER 22 June -23July
Money, and how you acquire it, is cause for thought this
month. Itall revolves around work and employment, and making
good choices based on your experiences to date. Is it time to go it
alone? Be prepared to stand your ground and take no nonsense.
There may well be aperiod when you have to tighten your belt, but
be assured that you can, and will, succeed at whatever you set
your mind to.
LEO 24 July-23 August
Some strugglescontinue and all youcan do is maintain your
balance. It’s goingtobedown to youtobringall parties together
to startthe healingprocess. Brief respites do emergebut this isn’t
the endofmatters, much as you’d welcome it. Get your thinking
cap on to avoid ending up theoutcast. Irrespective of you being
able to see how events will pan out not everybody welcomes your
take on events.
VIRGO 24 August-23 September
Arichharvest is yours for thetaking and not before time.
Past efforts are about to reap theirrewards and you’reassured of
success. You may have had your detractors but now it’s time to
stepinto the limelight and takethe applause due to you. Just
remember though; no one likes ashow offand the words“Itold
you so” don’twin friends. Money in thebank and property matters
look good.
LIBRA 24 September -23October
Put emotions aside and relywhollyonyour intuition.
Expecting to hear from someone in particular? There could be
delays! Sadly, this could lead to sillyarguments erupting so be
aware of what you say and to whom. Avoid gossiping and gossips!
Maintaining your own high standards is paramount but you can do
so quietly and without causing upset. All in all aslower pace this
month but keep going and progress can be made.
SCORPIO 24 October -22November
Confused? Take time out to assesswhere you areand how
you arrived there. Do changesneed to be made? Onlyyou can
instigate them. The futurestarts now so put plans into action. The
worst of asituation is behindyou. It’stime forhealing and the
positive energy surrounding you brings good luck withit. You’re
nobody’s fool so don’t fool yourself. You’reolder, wiser, and can
achieve anythingyou want. Everything’s possible!
SAGITTARIUS 23 November -21December
It may well be time to pack your bags and move on either
physicallyoremotionally. You’ve done the best you can, given all
you can, and can offer no more. Don’t let yourself be taken
advantage of. Move to where though? For now there’salot of
uncertaintyaround and it would be best to let thefog clear before
making any decisions. Othersoffer love, support, encouragement
and help. Accept it with gratitude.
CAPRICORN 22 December -20January
Good omens surround you now, particularly withregard to
finance, but before you start splashing thecashit’sworth noting
that progress is going to be slow and steady. In short: be patient.
Do know that stronger foundations are being constructedbut this
will take time to manifest. Keeping going is your only option.
There’s hard work to be done but applying yourself now reaps
future rewards. It’sall about planning ahead for security tomorrow.
AQUARIUS 21 January -19February
The power is in your hands and must only be used for the
highest good of all. Alternatively, trust your innermost thoughts and
instinctsand actwithintegrity. Rise above anystressful situations
and look for compromise which brings healing to all. Offer help
where needed in thefull knowledge thatKarma will repay you three
fold. Stick by your own standards and principles and don’t commit
to anythingunless youwholeheartedlyagree with it.
PISCES 20 February -20March
Some tearssurround you but this is thefinal phase of an
ongoing saga. It willpass and, very much, youwill find yourself in
theright place to start moving forward to much brighter, happier,
times. Issues, potentially, arearound work or relationships but
you are beyond the worst. Keep going! Allow hope to fill your
heart. Plenty of rest and thechance to catch up withold friends
allow thehealing to start.
Jesustold astory aboutaman whohad his future mapped out. He looked forward
to “eat,drink andbemerry” (Luke 12v19).
On the Killamarsh Heritage Society stand Ispoke to
many people who brought along with them
to be kept to record the history and heritage of
Killamarsh.
Obviously, due to the pandemic it wasn’t possible to
However, the decision was taken tohold this year’s
Local history groups and associations were invited to
by groups from Eckington, Mosborough, Aston cum
We would like tothank the villages who took part this
year and for creating such alovely atmosphere. When
holding an event in our village you cannever be sure of
what the attendance will be like.
But thank you to everyone who came along to learn
about the history and heritage of where you live.
People attended from all around the areaand everyone
was so interested in the displays and information and
askedquestions.
People also said they have things at home which they
will be passing on to us.
Coffee and teas and biscuits were being served and
everyone took the opportunity to meet up and chat
with old friends and new. Ispoke to people who no
longer live inKillamarsh, but came specially to join us
(from Sheffield,Derbyand Northampton).
All-in-all avery enjoyable andsuccessful event.
Look out for our futureevents and come along and join
27 ENTERTAINMENT
Eckington’s Got Talent 2021
We were simply blown away bythe
talent on display through lockdown
and Christmas on Sir Capt Toms
Moore Facebook page. We had
an amazing audience of over 95,000
from all over the world, our
Christmas songs received over 108k
views.
We had abig show plannedour 10th
year anniversary and only one act
signed up! We weredevastatedeven
thinking about Eckington’s Got
Talent not going ahead in alive venue
again for the secondyear running.
It looked like everyone was still very
wary about performing in public.
But, never to be defeated wegot up
and got onwith it, and change plans
just two weeks before the event. As
2020 was on line we went back to
the drawing board toput our show
backonFacebook forasecond year.
While still riding on cloud nine after
our amazing virtual shows - we
couldn’t believe it when Britain’sGot
Talent Superstars Soldiers of Swing
The military singing duo -made up of
reservists Corporal Lee Day and
Sergeant Vince Fountain -said they
were ‘blown away’ and urged our
singers to keepitup. Theyimpressed
they wanted to work with us, so Lee
and Vince became our hosts on the
night. Also, Julian Smith another
finalist of Britain’s Got Talent who
we worked with in lockdown raising
money for the NHS. Sent us a
message to say how impressed he
was and good luckwiththe show.So,
they allhad some fantasticsupport.
By September 29, we had 22
amazing entries signed up for our
showplusone actfrom Americaand
together with our judges they
couldn’twait for the2nd October.
On the panel was music producer
Steve Stirland who has been with us
every year from ourvery first showin
2012.
Easy Street Theatre Company
director and the founder of Picture
House Youth Theatre Sallyanne
Foster-Major was alsoonthe panelas
was Easy Street company
choreographer and principal of
Amanda Hollands school of dance,
Amanda Tyas.
New to this year’s panel was
Stephine King who’s first gigasapro
singer was with Martha Reeves and
the Vandellas.
All 3ofour judges weresoimpressed
by every single one of the
submissions put forward for our
three categories: Under 10's, Under
16's andAdult.
Aspecial congratulations goes to our
winnersIsabelle Askew aged 9; Emily
Green age 11;and KerenFirth.
Ahuge well done is owed to our
runners up too, which were:
Ava-Grace Barkworthage 9; Zak Mills
age 13 andJessicaFirth.
The Star of the show went to
Shirinjoy for entering all the way
from Illinois near Chicago. Shirinjoy
has been following Eckington Got
Talent through Lockdown on Sir
Capt.Toms page then joined us.
All in all, we raised an incredible
£240 for Ashgate Hospicecare. This
makes a whopping grand-total of
£9089 raised for local charities over
the 10years we’ve been putting on
Eckington’s Got talent.
So no,the last2years have not been
easy. We’ve been faced with
impossible challenges but they have
also been atestament to everything
our community can achieve when
they come together.
Here’s to nextyear being ashowthat
will be bigger and betterthan ever.
