A FULL-TIME STUDY PROGRAMME
Study for approximately 16 hours per week at
our campus in Saltaire. Full-time courses take a
practical approach to studying, with a combination
of coursework, assessed units and exams. Work
can include building a portfolio, practical tasks and
presentations, as well as the chance to gain handson
experience through placements. All of these
elements, plus PSHE study, will form part of your
final grade.
Additional English & Maths
If you do not achieve GCSE grade 4 or above in
English & maths, you will have the chance to
continue to study these alongside some of our fulltime
courses.
If you enrol on a Level 3 course and have already
achieved GCSE grade 4 or above in English or
maths, you will have the opportunity to complete
AS English Language or Core Maths.
Progressions
Your study programme will prepare you for the
world of work or help you progress onto the next
level of study in your course, head to university
or start an apprenticeship. Level 3 courses are
equivalent to up to 3 A Levels and provide you with
the UCAS points needed to support a university
application.
T LEVELS - THE NEXT LEVEL
QUALIFICATION
Ideal for ambitious students who are looking for
their next challenge
T-Levels are a 2-year qualification that can help
launch your career working with employers
from the very start of the course. You spend 80%
of your time in the classroom and 20% doing
practical learning through industry placements
over 45-60 days. The qualification has been
designed with leading employers such as BBC,
IBM, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Royal Society of
Chemistry.
T Levels are equivalent to 3 A Levels, which means
you can earn UCAS points to support entry to
university.
TRAINEESHIPS
An alternative route to employment
Are you aged 16-24 but still not sure what is right
for you? We know it is not always easy to find the
right role, especially when you have little or no work
experience and few qualifications. Traineeships help
bridge the gap between the skills that you have and
those that employers need.

Interested in studying one of
our T-Levels?
> Digital Business Services (Data/Information
Technician)
> Management & Administration

If you would like to study a T Level but do not
have the entry requirements, you can join our
one-year Transition to T Level programme. You will
work on group projects, and learn the roles and
responsibilities of professionals in your chosen
industry area. These include: Digital, Education
& Childcare, Health, Accounting & Finance and
Management Administration.
For each team project, you will be set a brief by
an employer, to identify a problem and work from
concept through to completion. The project aims to
teach you effective time management and develop
your confidence in your chosen career path area.
You will continue to study English and maths on this
programme, so that you can resit them to achieve
the required level needed for a T Level course.

WHAT’S BEEN
HAPPENING?
TESTING TIME FOR STUDENTS
Our Health & Social Care students got involved
with Covid testing during the pandemic, stepping
up to the challenge and putting their learning
into practice. Student Fiza said she not only loved
having the opportunity to gain work experience,
but also made so many new friends.
“I am so proud. The students
demonstrated such care and compassion,
they are fantastic young adults. We are
very grateful to them for all of their
hard work and commitment.”
Jennifer Thetford-Kay, Course Tutor
HISTORY ON DISPLAY
Corridors in the Salt and Exhibition buildings are
now home to displays detailing the history of the
College premises from 1860 to present day.
The Saltaire World Heritage Education Association
(SWHEA) unveiled 50 storyboards and artifacts
that aim to keep village founder Titus Salt’s legacy
alive.
“We are thrilled that the installation is in
place for the students and hope that they
will inspire new insights into the past and
present for all the people who use and visit
these spaces.”
Rachael Durrett, SWHEA Chair

ISMAH IS A FASHION WINNER
Art & Design student Ismah became the proud winner of this year’s fashion
design competition run by Bradford School of Art. Following the brief of
‘Home’ for her creation, Ismah’s interpretation was based on living spaces for
sea creatures. The fabulous design was inspired by the majestic Orca whale,
using crushed velvet to resemble its skin with white sculpting panels that
mimic its markings.
LETTERS TO LONDON
During the pandemic, our English GCSE students revived the art of letter
writing and connected with pen pals at Waltham College in London.
They shared their experience of living and studying in Bradford as well as
some facts on the history of Saltaire. Having a purpose to their writing led to
some of the students’ best work and the creation of new friendships.
15
CTE AWARDS
Students across College were celebrated at the Careers & Technical Education
(CTE) Awards for their amazing achievements throughout their studies with us.
They were nominated amongst other students in Bradford but won because of
their exceptional progress and willingness to go above and beyond. Business
Student of the Year Hibah was thrilled and said ‘It’s down to putting in the hard
work, having determination and staying motivated’.
STUDENTS GET CLOSER TO
NATURE
Giving back to the community is important
at College, and this year the Supported
Interns worked with the Hirst Wood
Regeneration Group to replant beds with
fruits & herbs, and created bug hotels from
recycled materials. The students gained
valuable work experience that will help with
their future and created something they can
watch grow over the seasons.
16
WHAT A PERFORMANCE!
Music Technology students celebrated
the end of term with a fabulous live
performance out on the lawn of our Salt
Building. They chose their own songs and
worked with the tutors to get performanceready,
drawing crowds on the day who
loved seeing live music again.
“I can’t thank you enough for helping me
grow as a musician. I definitely won’t forget
my time at Shipley College.”
