LORD
MAYOR’S
MESSAGE
CR STEVEN
ISSA
Council boosts City’s nightlife
With balmy summer nights just around the corner,
now is the perfect time to explore all the offerings
our wonderful City has to offer. To assist the City’s
economic recovery from COVID-19, Council has
awarded eight local businesses Night Time
Economy Activation Grants of up to $10,000 each.
These grants encourage local businesses, groups
and individuals to trial new and interesting
products and concepts to boost the night-time
sector in the CBD and surrounding areas.
Council launched the Night Time Economy
Activation Grants earlier this year to support
our vision of turning the Central River City into
a thriving 24-hour destination. One of our grant
recipients, Flamenco for Everybody, has used
the funding to develop a local dance show and
workshops.
The grants are also supporting the first Parramatta
edition of Global Cities After Dark – a capacity
building and resilience-focused program for
industry professionals, which aims to futureproof
Western Sydney’s 24-hour economy. Other
recipients include Nick & Nora’s in Parramatta,
Abattoir Blues in Sydney Olympic Park, Parramatta
Leagues Club, Deliv’art, and 5PM Wake Up Call.
These fantastic initiatives are just a small example
of what the City of Parramatta has to offer after
hours, so I encourage you to have a night out
and support our many local businesses as they
reopen their doors to the public.
Have your say
Concept plans for F.S. Garside Park in North Granville are
now on public exhibition.
Concept plans, proposed parking changes for
Gray and Onslow streets, and the Review of
Environmental Factors (REF) relating to F.S. Garside
Park in North Granville are now on public
exhibition, and we want to hear what you think.
The proposal includes a new district playground
with play equipment to suit different ages and
abilities, public bathroom, improved sports field,
fitness stations, two new dog park areas, new
social spaces, changes to parking arrangements
and more.
The concept plan has been developed from
community feedback collected from March
2020 and during the masterplan development.
Tell us what you think about the proposed plans
by visiting Council’s Participate Parramatta
website, or send a submission via email or post.
Come along and talk to the project team at one
of the drop-in sessions at F.S. Garside Park from
3 to 5pm on Thursday 18 November, and 10am
to 12pm on Saturday 27 November. Please
register online if you wish to attend.
For more information and to provide feedback,
please visit participate.cityofparramatta.nsw.
Submissions close 5pm, Friday 3 December 2021.
This project is proudly funded by the NSW
State Government in association with City of
Parramatta Council.
People can feel isolated
and excluded from the
community for a wide variety
of reasons. Social Inclusion Week
is a great opportunity to host an
event and help build caring and inclusive
environments with people in our community.
It’s also a wonderful opportunity to reach out to
those who may need a little extra support.
Events can take many forms including sporting
events, barbeques, music concerts, and online
get-togethers. These events provide an
opportunity for community members to engage
with one another and foster a sense of
belonging. For more information or to register
your event, visit socialinclusionweek.com.au
Parramatta welcomes its first distillery
A couple of weeks ago, I had the honour of
attending the grand opening of Parramatta’s
first legal distillery and cellar door at The Primary
Goods Company in North Rocks.
The distillery is home to the award-winning
Renegat Vodka, which claimed the Champion
Vodka trophy at the Royal Australian Spirit
Awards in October.
The Primary Goods Company also recently
received one of Council’s Night Time Economy
Activation Grants, which was put towards
creating a ‘Gin Experience’ event. This is a great
example of the blossoming cultural maturity of
Parramatta and significant evolution in our
City’s nightlife. I look forward to seeing more
innovative activities like this in the future.
Social Inclusion Week
Now in its 13th year, Social Inclusion Week takes
place from 20–28 November. As an initiative of
Play It Forward – which runs a range of inclusive
arts programs, events and projects – Social
Inclusion Week aims to build a more caring,
inclusive and connected society. This year’s
theme is ‘Connect, Collaborate and Celebrate!’
