In accordance with the Strategy of the Faculty of Economics & Business
- Zagreb for the period 2020 - 2025, in which the emphasis was
put on transparency, Dean Prof. Jurica Pavičić, Ph.D., presented the
results of the operations in the past academic year and the key challenges
that remain to the Faculty. He emphasized that these are the
results of all employees in a year full of challenges, which have been
turned into opportunities to improve the process and the way the
Faculty operates, and on that occasion, he expressed gratitude to
everyone for their contribution
Dean Prof. Pavičić especially pointed out that in the past academic
year, digitalization continued and online and hybrid classes were
successfully organized. Despite everything, we have managed to
mark the 100th anniversary of the Faculty. He emphasized the importance
of personnel and the potency that the Faculty has, which is
reflected in 45 promotions from assistant professors to associate
professors during the last academic year. Dean also emphasized the
importance of the reconstruction of the Faculty after the earthquake
and significant investments in the infrastructure of the Faculty, with
an expected amount of HRK 82.8 million.
Focusing on the demographic challenge of the declining number of
newborns, the Dean pointed out that the Faculty of Economics &
Business - Zagreb was for this enrolment term the most sought-after
faculty of economics in Croatia, and that the Faculty's study programs
occupy two of the top 5 most sought-after study programs in
Croatia (the 1st and the 5th). Although the Faculty is extremely
sought after, due to the mentioned challenges, it was worked hard
on internationalization and attracting global students - for which
are indispensable prerequisite the accreditations, and for which two
visits are forthcoming during November: EPAS reaccreditation visit
and EQUIS accreditation visit.
Finally, the Dean once again thanked all those who contributed, or
who contribute and who will contribute that the Faculty of Economics
& Business, University of Zagreb remain the backbone of economic
thought in the Republic of Croatia and the region.

in Croatia, and the European Documentation Center (EDC) of
the Library and Documentation Center of the Faculty of Economics
& Business - Zagreb organized a discussion with students of the
Faculty of Economics & Business and the students of the final classes
of the economic high-schools on Climate Change and the Environment.
After the introductory speech of Ms. Zrinka Udiljak
Bugarinovski, Head of EDC, a welcome speech was given by Prof.
Jurica Pavičić, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Economics & Business,
while Ms. Dubravka Šuica, Vice President of the European Commission
for Democracy and Demography, addressed the participants via
video. The discussion with the students was moderated by Mr.
Branko Baričević, former Head of the Representation of the European
Commission in Croatia.
In the presence of Assoc. Prof. Božidar Jaković, Ph.D., Vice-dean for
Students, Teaching and Digitalization, and Assoc. Prof. Tomislav
Gelo, head of the course Energy and Energy Markets, students of the
Faculty of Economics & Business - Zagreb were participating in the
debate, and were joined by students of the secondary schools of
economics in the City of Zagreb.
Through a very intense discussion (on oil, gas, electric cars, agriculture,
solar panels and ways to educate the masses about their usefulness
and usability, EU involvement, etc.), participants had the
opportunity to express their opinions and views on what should be
be the future of Europe in terms of combating climate change and
how to achieve the sustainability of our social and economic model.
Their reflections will be forwarded to the European Commission
through the conclusions of the event, and thus will become part of
achieving the ultimate goal of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
Young people are at the center of EU policies and the European
Commission has submitted an official proposal to declare 2022 the
European Year of Youth, because it is important that the voice of
young people is accepted at all levels - social, social, educational,
economic and all others.
The Conference on the Future of Europe is a unique
opportunity for European citizens to discuss Europe's
challenges and priorities. The aim is to involve citizens of
all ages and profiles, and especially young people, to be
actively included in rethinking the future of the EU, to
make it clear what kind of European Union they want to
live in, what they want to change, and how. The conference
allows millions of citizens to discuss together with
their elected representatives at all levels, whether at the
local, regional, national, or European level. Together
they can discuss the future European Union in which they
want to live and work.

Six students of the Faculty of Economics & Business of the University
of Zagreb under the guidance of Prof. Nevenka Čavlek, Ph.D., is
leaving for Oman on November 3, 2021, to participate in the traditional
international program of education of students in the field of
Tourism called ITHAS - International Tourism & Hospitality Academy
at Sea. The holder of the ITHAS program in all previous years was
the Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb, and so

the period from November 5 to December 5, 2021, cruising on the
route Muscat, Oman - Kuwait - Saudi Arabia - Bahrain - Qatar - Dubai
(UAE - EXPO 2020) - Muscat, and the entire program has been
raised to the highest diplomatic level.
This year the Government of Oman, in cooperation with the German
University of Technology in Oman, offered to be a full sponsor of the
ITHAS project by lending the ship Shabab Oman II of the Royal Navy
of Oman, provided that the trip is connected with the world exhibition
EXPO Dubai 2020. Therefore, 14th ITHAS is to be held outside
Europe for the first time and will last one month. It will take place in
4
This 14th ITHAS will be exceptional in many ways. Not only will it
last 30 instead of the previous 8 days, but for the first time, it will
take place entirely outside Europe. In addition to the usual program
of education during the voyage, students will have a unique opportunity
to participate in educational thematic programs within the
world exhibition EXPO 2020 Dubai. The main motto of the EXPO is
Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, and the sub-themes are Opportunity,
Mobility, and Sustainability. This year's ITHAS will bring
together all three sub-themes as follows: connecting students from
11 countries and learning in a multicultural environment and with
an interdisciplinary approach presents unlimited opportunities; the
Shabab Oman II cruise represents mobility and an exceptional opportunity
in which the participants of the voyage move both physically
and virtually; and sustainability is the guiding idea of the whole
program of theoretical and practical education during a one-month
trip where students will explore and learn about different aspects of
sustainability in the countries they come from, but also the countries
they will visit during the trip.
The program involves 30 students from 10 countries (Faculty of Economics
& Business, University of Zagreb; German University of
Technology, Oman; University of Munich, Germany; Brock University,
Ontario, Canada; University of Pécs, Hungary; and students from
other Arab countries on the itinerary). Thanks to the reputation of
the ITHAS project and our long-term impeccable organization, we
managed to provide as many as six places for students of the Faculty
of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb.
All students have the task to prepare a presentation of the university
and the country they come from, but also to process an example of
good or bad practices of sustainable tourism development according
to the goals of the UNWTO. Our students chose to present an example
of sustainable tourism development in Mali Lošinj and the practice
of IQM Destination.
In order for all students from Europe and Canada to get better acquainted
with the culture and customs of the countries they will
visit before the trip, an online lecture in English was organized,
which was held on October 21, 2021, by Mr. Nermin Ef. Botonjić,
Secretary of the Meshihat of the Islamic Community in Croatia.
In order to develop teachers' competencies and excellence in teaching,
on October 1, 2021, the now traditional Teaching Excellence
Day (TED) was held.

in the challenging last academic year: Assoc. Prof. Maja Klindžić,
Ph.D., from the Department of Organization and Management, Assoc.
Prof. Tomislav Globan, Ph.D., from the Department of Macroeconomics
and Economic Development and Ms. Antea Barišić, Ph.D.,
from the Department of Economic Theory.
The focus of the workshop was on discussing and sharing experiences
and best practices of online and hybrid teaching. Among other
things, the panelists commented on the organization of the teaching
process and applied teaching methods in the online environment,
ways to keep the focus and motivation of students for work, valorization
and monitoring of student work, and key challenges they
faced over the past year.

On October 12, 2021, at the Faculty of Economics & Business - Zagreb,
was presented the book "Macroeconomic Responses to the
COVID-19 Pandemic Policies from Southeast Europe", edited by
Assist. Prof. Neven Vidaković, Ph.D., and Prof. Ivan Lovrinović,
Ph.D. Present were addressed by an introductory speech of Prof.
Jurica Pavičić, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Economics & Business -
Zagreb. Then the book was presented by the editors/co-authors Prof.
Vladimir Čavrak, Ph.D., Faculty of Economics & Business - Zagreb,
Department of Macroeconomics and Economic Development, Mr.
Mario Holzner, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Vienna Institute for
International Economic Research, Prof. Franjo Štiblar, Ph.D., University
of Ljubljana, visiting professor at John Hopkins University
and World Bank consultant, and reviewer Assoc. Prof. Dubravko
Radošević, Ph.D., senior research associate at the Institute of Economics
in Zagreb.
"This book was created as a result of intellectual curiosity and the
need for the academic community to contribute to a better understanding
of the macroeconomic consequences of the coronavirus
pandemic as a new and hitherto unknown phenomenon. The cooperation
of more than twenty economists from six countries in Southeast
and Central Europe went a step further, so the book contains
contributions for defining reasonable economic policy packages
aimed at alleviating the economic crisis and easier and faster recovery
of national economies" said Professor Čavrak.
The book is also relevant to other researchers, and anyone interested
in macroeconomic and financial dynamics in the post-crisis period.
The book was published by the renowned international publisher
Palgrave Macmillan and contains the scientific papers of researchers
and economists from several countries. The focus of the book is on
macroeconomic analysis, measures, and recommendations because
of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 virus pandemic, with special
emphasis on the countries of Southeast Europe. Therefore, the book
aims to inform and offer recommendations to economic policymakers
in Southeast Europe.
There is a well-known saying that one picture speaks a hundred
words. Thus, for the history of each institution, photographs of
either buildings/spaces or staff are especially valuable. Unfortunately,
although the old snaps (of buildings and staff) of our faculty
are of such importance, they have been rarely preserved,
especially those from an earlier period (until the transformation
of the School of Economics and Commerce into the Faculty of
Economics in 1947), and this is particularly related to the pic-
8
tures of personnel/teachers. Therefore, the joint photo of four
public full professors of SEC, who were also, in today's vocabulary,
the management of the faculty in the first quarter of a century
of existence (1920-1945) is especially important and deserves
special attention.
The photo was probably taken in the yard of the first building of
the School of Economics and Commerce ("building on the corner")
in Zvonimirova no. 8, but it is not known when - most
probably around June 24, 1938, when the election of rector and
dean for ac. yr. 1938/1939 has taken place. By the precise dating
can help the fact that on the photo are the newly elected Rector
for ac. yr. 1938/1939 (Prof. E. Sladović, Ph.D.), Vice-Rector for
ac. yr. 1937/1938 (Prof. M. Ivšić, Ph.D.), Rector for ac. yr.
1937/1938 and Vice-Rector for ac. yr. 1938/1939 (Prof. F. Lukas),
and the newly elected Dean for ac. yr. 1938/1939 (Prof.
Šćetinec, Ph.D.).
these four public full professors of the SEC through the quarter of
a century:
Prof. Eugen Sladović, Ph.D. (Jelsa, Nov. 22, 1882 – Zagreb,
Oct. 8, 1960) in the academic year 1925/1926 was elected Dean
of the College of Trade and Transport, so after the transformation
into the School of Economics and Commerce (January 1,
1926), he became its first Dean. In addition to this mandate,
Prof. Sladović was the Rector of the School of Economics and
Commerce (SEC) in 1931-1932 and 1938-1941; Rector of the
Croatian School of Economics and Commerce 1941-1944, and
Vice-rector 1944-1945; Dean of SEC 1934-1936, and Vice-dean
of SEC 1926-1927 and 1930-1931.
Prof. Milan Ivšić, Ph.D. (Orahovica, Aug. 28, 1887 - Zagreb,
Feb. 6, 1972) was in ac. yr. 1933/1934 elected Dean of the School
of Economics and Commerce. He was elected Rector in ac. yr.
1934/1936, and its Vice-rector was in 1936/1938. In ac. yr.
1944/1945 he was the Rector of the Croatian School of Economics
and Commerce (HEKVŠ).
Prof. Filip Lukas (Kaštel Stari, April 28, 1871 – Rome, It., Feb.
26, 1958) was in ac. yr. 1920/1921 elected as the first Dean of the
College of Trade and Transport (CTT), and in ac. yr. 1921/1922
held the position of Vice-dean of the CTT. When CTT grew into
the School of Economics and Commerce, prof. Lucas held post of
its Rector in u ac. yr. 1926/1927 and 1936/1938, and Vice-rector
in 1927/1929 and 1938/1940; and vice-dean in ac. yr. 1932/1933.
Prof. Juraj Šćetinec, Ph.D., (Koprivnica, April 19, 1898 – Zagreb,
June 24, 1939) was at the session of the Professors Council
of the School of Economics and Commerce in Zagreb, held on
June 24, 1938, at first nominated to the post of Rector for ac. yr.
1938/1939, but after he refused, he was elected Dean by consensus.
Unfortunately, he died suddenly before the end of that term,
exactly one year after the election - on June 24, 1939.
To substantiate the fact of the historical-documentary importance
of this photography for the Faculty of Economics &
Business, let's just recall the official posts that were held by

On the first day, the members of the project visited the campus of the
Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, which is positioned in the
first place in the Czech Republic as the most sustainable campus and
university and had the opportunity to get acquainted with the way of
studying at Tiimiakatemia® which was presented by the students
themselves attending that study program. The participants then continued
with meetings where they were introduced in detail to the financial
and administrative rules of the project and had the opportunity
to discuss networking and connecting with other projects. At the same
time, Prof. Blaženka Knežević, Ph.D. and Ms. Ana Rep, Ph.D., as members
of the project "Challenges and practices of teaching economic
disciplines in the era of digitalization" (DIGI4Teach), presented the
main goals of the project to others and invited them to cooperate as
associate members of the project. The DIGI4Teach project is also funded
by the Erasmus+ program within the strategic partnership for vocational
education, with the main goal being the exchange of good practice,
and the project coordinator is the Faculty of Economics & Business
of the University of Zagreb.
On the second day, the results of intellectual output 1 were presented,
which refer to the research of courses conducted in the countries where
the project participants come from, and the survey of university students
involved in the project. Representatives of the Faculty of Economics
presented the intellectual output 2 which includes the development
of a glossary of competencies that will need to have a
"sustainability manager" or skills and knowledge derived from defined
competencies. This will be the basis for the development of a syllabus
of the course on sustainability, which is also part of this intellectual
output. Subsequently, participants were presented with intellectual
output 6 which was subsequently added to the project with the approval
of the National Agency in exchange for an initial project meeting
held online due to the pandemic and no allocated funds were spent.
The participants thus agreed on topics and divided the tasks for the
three scientific papers through which the results of the additional research
will be disseminated. Finally, participants had the opportunity
to see VR and AI laboratories within the university.

From October 13 to 15, 2021, the Croatian Academic Community at
the Faculty of Economics & Business in Zagreb (HAZEF) organized a
three-day event called the Financial Academy. The event was held in
the halls of the Faculty of Economics & Business in a hybrid manner,
following epidemiological measures and with a livestream on the
YouTube channel of HAZ Students. The aim of this project was to
encourage student proactivity and bring them closer to the world of
finance as a supplement to what is taught in the classroom, which
we believe we have certainly succeeded in this event.
The academy was opened by a lecture by Mr. Zoran Stanković, Member
of the Management Board of Atlantic Grupa and Vice President
of the Finance, Procurement, and Investment Group. Participants
had the opportunity to listen through interesting anecdotes about
how his career path went and along the way he shared a lot of important
tips that will surely help all students who listened to him.
Ms. Vedrana Đurasek (CNB, Human Resources Management Directorate),
Ms. Iva Lopac Butarac, Erste Bank, Head of Organizational
Development and Management), Ms. Kristina Tojčić (GRAWE, Human
Resources Department), Ms. Nikolina Cvitanović (Kent Bank,
Director of Risk Management), and Ms. Aleksandra Bogdan (HANFA,
Systemic Risk Directorate). The discussion was more focused on the
recruitment process for which the panelists gave us useful advice on
how to approach job interviews and what all the options for student
internships, scholarships and student jobs are.
More than 700 participants applied for the training, which is just an
additional confirmation that young people in Croatia are eager for
more knowledge in personal finance and finance in general. If you
accidentally missed this year's Financial Academy, you are free to
visit the YouTube channel HAZ Students and listen to all lectures.
As part of the academy, the lecture was given by Domagoj Mataić, a
student of FEBZG, Junior analyst of FIME Plus and journalist of Lider
Media, who presented the investment in cryptocurrencies from a
student perspective. He also touched on current topics from the
world of cryptocurrencies and commented on how they could influence
yield movements in the future. After his lecture, Ms. Mirjam
Raič from Erste Bank held a workshop on personal finance called the
School of Smart Investments. The workshop was interactive and emphasized
the importance of monitoring costs and revenues, that is,
financial planning.
On the last day of the Financial Academy, a panel discussion was
held moderated by Mr. Ivan Milutinović, founder of the MeLoot
startup, while the panelists came from various branches of finance:

LearnToInvest
On October 16, 2021, the Student Association Economic Clinic conducted the
LearnToInvest project for the third year in a row. The organizers had the opportunity
to gather 100 participants, but the number of about 200 applicants
showed how contemporary and interesting investment topics are currently. Attendees
were partly students and partly employees who encountered investment
either professionally or privately.
The lectures were given by 16 lecturers, experts from the world of investment,
and two-panel discussions were held as part of the program. "The goal of the
whole project was actually to connect different spheres and areas that the investment
'covers'. We achieved this goal considering that there was talk of real
estate, gold, ETFs, NFTs, cryptocurrencies, technical analysis… With the support
of lecturers, we had really great support of sponsors who also recognized our
work and decided to participate ", as the organizers pointed out.
Entrepreneur of the Future
The sixth edition of the Entrepreneur of the Future project was held from October 2 to 17, 2021.
Over three weeks, 43 high school students and 10 lecturers participated in four different locations.
As part of the project, the high school students had to come up with their own ideas for an entrepreneurial
venture, which they then developed with the help of lecturers and volunteers, from marketing
