Labor have advantage
Labor has two existing seats in Wentworthville, but busy ballot paper will

Our Local Community
(OLC) and the Greens will
be fighting to get a seat at
the table of the Wentworthville
Ward, as they go head to head with
three incumbent Councillors.
Labor’s two sitting Councillors
Suman Saha and Lisa Lake will
recontest with running mate and
disability advocate Mark Kunach.
Cr Saha said if elected to Council
the Labor team will work for a
major upgrade to Civic Park and its
wetlands, a Council service centre
in Wentworthville, a new amenity
building in Girraween Park as well
as Town Centre improvements for
Wentworthville, Pendle Hill and
Toongabbie.
They also want to protect
community assets from privatisation,
increase community consultation
and bring back more grants
for community programs.
“People put their trust in local
councils to care for people and
provide essential services – and
that’s what Labor does best,” Cr
Saha said.
“We support policies and plans
which foster social inclusion,
equality of opportunity, sustainable
development, affordable
housing, local business development
and job creation.”
Incumbent Liberal Councillor
Michael Zaiter will recontest as an
independent with running mates
Monica El-Khoury and Melissa
Rahme, wife of Granville Ward
Councillor Joseph Rahme.
Cr Zaiter was contacted for
comment.
The Greens will make its only
Cumberland appearance this election
in the Wentworthville Ward.
Leading the ticket is Sujan
Selventhiran, who previously ran
for the The Greens in the State
Prospect seat in 2015 and in 2017
ran for Cumberland City Council
in the Wentworthville Ward.
Mr Selventhiran has been part of
The Greens for the past decade and
is passionate about sustainability,
clean energy, housing affordability
and providing more open spaces.
“One of the biggest issues here is
overdevelopment. I’m not against
development but believe there
needs to be more green space for
the community,” he said.
“I’m also passionate about bringing
back more grants for groups in
the local community.”
Running second on his ticket
is Michael Rynn and third is
Dot Newland, both of whom are
concerned about overdevelopment
and want to promote clean
energy and improve parks.
Also hopeful to increase representation
is Nadima Kafrouni-
Saba, who will lead the OLC ticket.
Ms Kafrouni-Saba is a mother
of two and was a former Liberal
Councillor and Deputy Mayor of
Holroyd City Council.
She said it was a great learning
experience but hated the politics
of it all and so was looking for a
more independent team this time
