Summer Volunteer Project - Impact Report

WE GET

THE JOB

DONE!

It has become one of MSSA’s goals to participate in a yearly

volunteer outing during our summer show. While the program’s

primary focus is giving back to our veterans, this past summer

in Birmingham, Alabama, twenty MSSA members volunteered with

United Way Hands On. The volunteer outing, sponsored by MSSA

member ThinkSign, consisted of local clean-up after the Birmingham

area destruction caused by natural disasters over the last year. Below

is an Impact Report sent by United Way Hands On demonstrating the

impact that our members had.

“I wanted to pass along this Impact Report for you to share with your team that helped with the volunteer opportunity this summer.

This report shows the dollar value of volunteer labor that your group put in at Barker Park and Greater Birmingham Ministries. We are

so appreciative of the hard work that you all put in to help our community. It is because of companies like Mid-South Sign Association

Atlanta Here We Come

ISA International Sign Expo® 2022 is coming to the land of Coca-Cola, the massive Georgia Aquarium and the National

Center for Civil and Human Rights. It’s a new location for ISA Sign Expo, which will celebrate its 75th anniversary there.

While there will be much that is different, what makes ISA Sign Expo unique will be fully present. Come prepared to see the

very latest products that will build your business and make those all-important connections.

Why Atlanta? The location was selected several years back for its ability to offer something new to attendees. And there is plenty

new. The Georgia World Congress Center—the event’s location—is situated near the 22-acre Centennial Olympic Park, where

the 1996 Olympic Games were held and where today one can snap a photo at the Fountain of Rings.

It’s also close to the College Football Hall of Fame, which pays homages to the greatest coaches and players in the college game.

Inside the hall, find 95,000 square feet of engaging and interactive exhibits and imagine your own glory days on the 45-yard

indoor football field.

U.S. Supreme Court Hears Key Sign Case

https://signs.org/newsroom/us-supreme-court-hears-key-sign-case

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) recently heard oral arguments from the parties involved in City of

Austin v. Reagan National Advertising of Texas, a case that could dramatically change the on-premise sign industry.

Austin v. Reagan involves the traditional regulatory distinction between on-premise and off-premise signs (billboards). Although

SCOTUS allocated 70 minutes for oral arguments, the debate ended up lasting approximately 95 minutes, confirming the diverse

interests and various complexities in the case.

ISA’s amicus brief was cited favorably by the plaintiff’s side, and SCOTUS noted several times that eliminating the on/off distinction

would be very disruptive to thousands of jurisdictions across the country.

The Supreme Court’s decision is expected in Spring or Summer 2022. In the meantime, join an ISA webinar on December 8 on

how Austin v. Reagan may affect the on-premise sign industry and your business, from leading sign industry attorneys. Registration

is free for ISA and Affiliated Association members ($35 for non-members) at signs.org/webinars.

7 Areas Dominating Future Work Trends in 2022

FUTURE OF WORK TREND #2 | Scarcity

Surviving the talent shortage

What is happening?

Why are they so many unfulfilled jobs? 11 million in the US alone. It’s a huge issue with some big reasons behind it. Fast

economic expansion. Projects delayed due to COVID-19. But there’s also a skill mismatch. Jobs don’t match the people. The bad

news is as digital innovation accelerates; this record-breaking talent gap will only widen.

We surveyed nearly 700 professionals, and almost a third said they were thinking of leaving their job even though they didn’t

have another one lined up. That’s how confident they are in their value. The talent shortage is so widespread it’s even got a

name, The Great Resignation.

GREAT LOOKING SIGNS.

EASY TO WORK WITH.

AMAZING RESULTS.

Call us today at 800-637-2645

or visit us online at watchfiresigns.com.

And it isn’t just people that are in short supply. Material shortages and supply chain bottle necks are causing major delays and

growing costs.

What does this future of work trend mean?

Attraction and retention used to be a numbers game. 2022 calls for a much more human approach. Organizations should

consider all the levers they have available to them for building and strengthening relationships with individual talent—from

compensation, rewards, and benefits to learning and development, succession and DE&I.

Modern Signs, LLC | Foley, AL

16mm | 234 x 360 | 13'2" x 20'3"

What can you do about the talent shortage?

New methods for incentivizing candidates to join – and employees to stay: To crack a tight labor market, companies are

increasing compensation, offering more long-term incentives and benefits, and paying sign-on bonuses, even for entry level

hires.

Candidate experience is everything: A Korn Ferry survey revealed that 75% of candidates say it’s unlikely they would accept a

job if they were treated poorly during the interview process. So, if you want to secure the best people, you’re going to need to

provide the best candidate care.

Ryan Taylor

(502) 791-2989

(877) 767-9949

ThinkSIGN.com

Solving the shortage from the inside out: Facing a talent shortage means organizations will start to focus more on internal

mobility, reskilling and upskilling existing employees to prevent attrition and fill niche roles.

Exploring all the possibilities of flexible working: Organizations offering choices that match candidate expectations are likely to

have a distinct hiring advantage over those that are not. There are also opportunities to widen the net further by making roles

virtual.

Inclusion is the name of the game: Inclusive hiring practices help you tap into a wider talent pool, making it easier to hire quality

candidates quickly, even for niche or hard-to-source roles.
