<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Moment <strong>of</strong> S e e i n g<br />
By Veronica Evers
Veronica Evers is a London-based photographer<br />
specialis<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> black and white documentary photography.<br />
Born <strong>in</strong> Vancouver and raised <strong>in</strong> Prague and Berl<strong>in</strong>, an<br />
appreciation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> arts was a fundamental aspect <strong>of</strong> her<br />
upbr<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g. Dur<strong>in</strong>g her time <strong>in</strong> Prague, she spent seven<br />
years at <strong>the</strong> National Theatre; an experience which has<br />
come to def<strong>in</strong>e her unique lens. Her work br<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>the</strong><br />
drama, <strong>the</strong>atrical light<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>in</strong>tensity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> stage to <strong>the</strong><br />
everyday world <strong>of</strong> London.<br />
Initially focus<strong>in</strong>g on nature and architecture, Evers soon<br />
transitioned to street photography with a human element,<br />
captur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> city’s energy and <strong>the</strong> day-to-day life <strong>of</strong> its<br />
<strong>in</strong>habitants. To develop her technical skills, she sought <strong>the</strong><br />
mentorship <strong>of</strong> World Photo Press w<strong>in</strong>ner Jan Sibik.<br />
In <strong>the</strong> Moment <strong>of</strong> See<strong>in</strong>g is Evers’ first solo exhibition <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
UK. The works are filled with light and shadow, <strong>the</strong>atrical<br />
compositions and emotion – a feel<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>tensified by<br />
<strong>the</strong> recent lockdown when <strong>the</strong>se images were captured.<br />
Through her eye, <strong>the</strong> world is heightened and distilled and<br />
loaded with narrative potential. The subject becomes <strong>the</strong><br />
actor, <strong>the</strong> public space becomes <strong>the</strong> stage and Veronica,<br />
<strong>the</strong> spectator.<br />
