The year 2021 has brought many
changes in all aspects of life. Many
of those changes are positive aiming
at the improvement of the human
condition. Among those changes is
the withdrawal of U.S. military from
Afghanistan. This was a historical
change that should have happened
nearly 20 years ago after the futility of
occupying Afgahnaistn was known. The
positive circumstance that occurred
due to the occupation was the
beginning of a new awakening for the
people of Afghanistan The repression of
the previous Taliban control kept people
and the Afghan society in a state of
limbo caught in a theocracy of archaic
religious beliefs where persecution and

discrimination were part of daily life.
The blind idealism of the Taliban then
and now denies the existence of LGBTQ
people and their human rights. This
repressive skewed antiquated religious
dogma puts control and refusal of
basic human needs and cultural
development which happens through
art not a religion in a state of inhibited
neglect. It causes the arts and those
who create them to be in a constant
state of fear. The Taliban skewed beliefs
attempt to restrict any public display
or performance of cultural activities
such as music, dancing, visual arts
other activities which purport to display
religious permitted subjects.

NINE Accidents that led to
amazing discoveries.
People tend to hold inventors in high
esteem, but often our discoveries are
based on mistakes. So remember that
next time you make a mistake, fuck it,
you may have invented something cool.
1. Play Doh:
Accidentally invented in 1955 by Joseph
and Noah Mc Vicker while they were
trying to make a wallpaper cleaner.
Most people remember the smell from
childhood, the brightly colored, non
toxic modeling clay. More than 700
million pounds of Play Doh have sold
since then. The recipe remains a secret.
2. Fireworks:
Accidentally invented by a cook who
mixed together charcoal, sulfur, and
saltpeter all items commonly found in
kitchens in those days. Nobody doesn’t
like Fireworks, as my buddy used to say.
Originated in China some 2,000 years
ago, The Cook was likely the dinner but
no record of whether it was the his last
day!
3. Potato Chips:
Accidentally invented by an angry chef
George Crum. He reportedly created
the salty snack in 1853 at Moon’s Lake
House near Saratoga Springs, New York.
Upset customers who sent the fried
potatoes, complaining that they were
soggy and not crunchy enough, Crum
sliced the potatoes as thin as possible,
fried them in hot grease, then doused
them with salt. The customer loved them
and” Saratoga Chips” quickly became
a popular item at the lodge and
throughout New England. Eventually,
the chips were mass produced for home
consumption, but since they were stored
in barrels or tins, they quickly went stale.
But then, in the 1920s, Laura Scudder
invented the airtight bag by ironing
together two pieces of waxed paper,
which kept the chips fresh even longer.
4. Slinky:
Accidentally invented by naval
engineer Richard James while trying to
develop a spring that would support
and stabilize sensitive equipment on
ships. When one of his prototypes
accidentally fell off a shelf, it continued
moving, and James got the idea for
a toy. His wife Betty came up with the
name, and when the Slinky made its
debut in late 1945, James sold 400 of the
bouncy toys in 90 minutes. Since then,
more than 250 million Slinkys have been
sold worldwide.
5. Post-it Notes:
Actually The idea for the Post-it Note
was conceived in 1974 by 3M employee
Arthur Fry re-imagined a weak adhesive
that had been accidentally developed
in 1968 by coworker Spencer Silver.
But it worked for the bookmarks in his
books. The 3M company was initially
skeptical about the product’s potential
profitability, but in 1980, the product was
introduced around the world. Today,
Post-it Notes are sold in more than 100
countries.

by the Taliban tribal leaders and their
personal beliefs which do not, for the
most part, reflect the actual Muslim
religion
When the Taliban ruled the country
from 1996 to 2001 artists were in a
constant state of danger. Music was
disapproved of, giant Buddha statues
were destroyed and all representations
of the human form in the visual arts were
banned. Onaid Sharif co-founder of the
group Art Lords painted street murals
on the topics of empathy and kindness
After the Taliban were removed. On
a Sunday after the Taliban take over
in August of this year he posted a
video which was picked up by NPR
along with his interview with NPR’s
Don Gonyea. He and members of his
organization were painting a mural
on the street in Kabul when the chaos
began. His statement in the interview
was, “Good morning Kabul, we are
painting a mural today., It reminded me
of the famous scene from the Titanic
Movie, where the musicians play until
the ship sinks. I hope you are enjoying

as you see our miseries.” Liala Noor, a
designer, and activist made the public
statement regarding the Taliban, “These
barbarians do not have anything to do
with art and culture but other people
in Afghanistan do. It is these people
who need security and support and
should not simply be delivered to those
who have no respect for the arts and
culture and women.” she state in an
interview with CNN. On August 31, 2021,
the Taliban dragged fold singer Fawad
Andarabi, a well-known fold singer from
his home, and shot him LBBTQ are also
being hunted and murdered because
being gay or lesbian is seen as un
Islamic by the Taliban tyrants.
These are the follow-through activities
of the repressive Taliban despots who
again have control of the Afghan
people and their culture. This is a
devastating shock to the country that
had a taste of what is possible with
more freedom and respect for basic
human dignity. The United States is not
responsible for the supremacist actions
of the Taliban although it was surmised
that what is taking place would take

Accidentally invented during World War
II, while attempting to create a synthetic
rubber substitute, James Wright dropped
boric acid into silicone oil. The result was
a polymerized substance that bounced,
The government wasn’t interested in his
creation, but Peter Hodgson instantly
knew it could be a hit. He re-named the
creation “Silly Putty” and marketed it as
a toy in 1950. It bounces, it stretches, it
breaks- it’s Silly Putty It was even used by
the crew of Apollo 8 to secure tools in
zero gravity,
7. Microwave Ovens:
The microwave oven is a standard
appliance in most American households,
but it has only been around since the
late 1940s. In 1945, Percy Spencer was
experimenting with a new vacuum
tube called a mag- netron while doing
research for the Raytheon Corporation.
He was intrigued when the candy
bar in his pocket began to melt, and
he immediately saw the potential in
this revolutionary process. In 1947,
Raytheon built the first microwave oven,
the Radarange, which weighed 750
pounds, was 5½ feet tall, and cost about
$5,000. When the Radarange became
available for home use in the early
1950s, its bulky size and expensive price
tag made it unpopular with consumers.
But in 1967, a much more popular
countertop version was introduced at a
price of $495.
