Who for us men and for our salvation

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
We are approaching Christmas. This is a time of joy
and celebration but also a time of reflection. Every Sunday or weekday Liturgy
we repeat the Nicene Creed and proclaim that we believe “in one Lord Jesus
Christ, the only-begotten Son of God……….. Who for us men and for our
salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and
the Virgin Mary and became man”.
Our faith proclaims that it is God searching for humanity and it is God that came
down to elevate us and so this makes Christianity the only True Way of Salvation.
The incarnation of The Only Son of God is a phenomenon that happened once
for the salvation of all humanity. Heresies and other religions such as Islam and
Judaism have not been able to comprehend the fact that it is possible for God to
become Human. This is the argument that all the fathers of the ecumenical
Councils have insisted on, because without God becoming human it would be
impossible for us to return to God. As we read in the parable of the rich man and
Lazarus “there is a great chasm separating us”. (Luke 16-26) This separation
happened because we wandered away from God by trusting in our own self and
we could only return to God if God Himself came searching for us as the Good
Shepherd goes searching for the lost sheep.
Dear Brothers and Sisters, this salvation and the search for humanity did not
come easy; the Loving Shepherd had to pay a price. A very high price was paid
for our salvation. First God our Lord Jesus Christ left the heavenly Glory and
became human, then He died on the Cross to concur death and resurrect our broken
humanity. All of this God did for our humanity because we are very precious
to Him. We are His creation and that makes us valuable but also, we are
created in His Image and that makes us even more cherished in the eyes of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

FATHER’S BLESSINGS AND THOUGHTS ....
Psalm 8:5 declares “You have made them a little
lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and
honor” that is why the second greatest commandment
says, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27).
Dear Brothers and sisters in Christ, that is the mystery
of Christmas, that is why we adore the newborn King because
He loved us first and for us humans and for our salvation
came down from heaven.
Today the humanity of Christ is not under attack directly by heretics, but it is indirectly because the
humanity of mankind is being exploited everywhere every day. As Christians, it is our responsibility to protect
the value of our humanity in ourselves and in our neighbors. As we give gifts to each other this Christmas, let us
remember that the best gifts are Love, Respect, and Human dignity. We can share these treasures with others,
for without love for one another we cannot really have Love for God. If we love God, we cannot hide it and it
will be revealed in our relationships with one another. It is only by Love for the other that we can get closer to
God. Merry Christmas and may the Blessings of the Newborn King guide us in our lives here and into His
Heavenly Kingdom.

Αγαπητοί εν Χριστώ αδελφοί.
Τὸν δι' ἡμᾶς τοὺς ἀνθρώπους καὶ διὰ τὴν ἡμετέραν σωτηρίαν
κατελθόντα ἐκ τῶν οὐρανῶν
καὶ σαρκωθέντα ἐκ Πνεύματος Ἁγίου
καὶ Μαρίας τῆς Παρθένου καὶ ἐνανθρωπήσαντα.
Πλησιάζουμε στα Χριστούγεννα. Αυτή είναι μια περίοδος χαράς και γιορτής αλλά και μια περίοδος
προβληματισμού. Σε κάθε Κυριακάτικη ή καθημερινή Λειτουργία επαναλαμβάνουμε το Σύμβολο της Πίστεως
και διακηρύσσουμε ότι πιστεύουμε «σε έναν Κύριο Ιησού Χριστό, τον Υιό του Θεού τον μονογενή
………….. Ο οποίος για εμάς τους ανθρώπους και για τη σωτηρία μας κατέβηκε από τον ουρανό και
ενσαρκώθηκε το Άγιο Πνεύμα και την Παναγία και έγινε άνθρωπος».
Η πίστη μας διακηρύσσει ότι είναι ο Θεός αυτός που αναζητά την ανθρωπότητα και ο Θεός είναι
αυτός που κατέβηκε για να μας εξυψώσει και έτσι αυτό κάνει τον Χριστιανισμό τον μόνο Αληθινό Δρόμο της
Σωτηρίας.
Η ενσάρκωση του Μονογενούς Υιού του Θεού είναι ένα φαινόμενο που συνέβη μια φορά για τη
σωτηρία όλης της ανθρωπότητας. Οι αιρέσεις και άλλες θρησκείες όπως ο Ισλαμισμός και ο Ιουδαϊσμός δεν
μπόρεσαν να κατανοήσουν το γεγονός ότι είναι δυνατό ο Θεός να γίνει Άνθρωπος. Αυτή είναι η διαφωνία την
οποία είχαν όλοι οι πατέρες των Οικουμενικών Συνόδων γιατί χωρίς ο Θεός να γίνει άνθρωπος θα ήταν αδύνατο
να επιστρέψουμε στον Θεό.

Όπως διαβάζουμε στην παραβολή του πλουσίου και του Λαζάρου «μας χωρίζει ένα μεγάλο χάσμα».
(Λουκάς 16-26) Αυτός ο διαχωρισμός συνέβη επειδή περιπλανηθήκαμε μακριά από τον Θεό έχοντας
εμπιστοσύνη στον εαυτό μας και θα μπορούσαμε να επιστρέψουμε στον Θεό μόνο αν ερχόταν ο ίδιος ο Θεός
να μας αναζητήσει, όπως ο Καλός Ποιμένας ψάχνει για το χαμένο του πρόβατο.
Αγαπητοί αδελφοί και αδελφές, αυτή η σωτηρία και η αναζήτηση της ανθρωπότητας δεν ήταν εύκολη.
Ο Στοργικός Ποιμένας έπρεπε να πληρώσει ένα τίμημα. Πλήρωσε πολύ ακριβά για τη σωτηρία μας. Πρώτα ο
Θεός, ο Κύριός μας Ιησούς Χριστός, άφησε την ουράνια Δόξα και έγινε άνθρωπος, μετά πέθανε στον Σταυρό
για να νικήσει τον θάνατο και να αναστήσει τη συντετριμμένη μας ανθρωπότητα. Όλα αυτά ο Θεός τα έκανε
για την ανθρωπότητά μας γιατί είμαστε πολύ πολύτιμοι γι' Αυτόν. Είμαστε δημιούργημά Του και αυτό μας
κάνει πολύτιμους, αλλά και είμαστε δημιουργημένοι κατ' εικόνα Του και αυτό μας κάνει ακόμα πιο αγαπητούς
στα μάτια του Κυρίου και Σωτήρα μας Ιησού Χριστού.
Ο Ψαλμός 8:5 δηλώνει «Τους έφτιαξες λίγο κατώτερους από τους αγγέλους και τους στεφάνωσες
με δόξα και τιμή» γι' αυτό η δεύτερη μεγαλύτερη εντολή λέει: «Αγάπα τον πλησίον σου ως τον εαυτό
σου» (Λουκάς 10:27).
Αγαπητοί εν Χριστώ αδελφοί, αυτό είναι το μυστήριο των Χριστουγέννων, γι' αυτό λατρεύουμε τον
νεογέννητο Βασιλιά, γιατί μας αγάπησε πρώτα και για εμάς τους ανθρώπους και για τη σωτηρία μας κατέβηκε
από τον ουρανό.
Σήμερα η ανθρωπότητα του Χριστού δεν δέχεται επίθεση άμεσα από αιρετικούς, αλλά έμμεσα, επειδή
γίνεται αντικείμενο εκμετάλλευσης παντού καθημερινά. Ως Χριστιανοί, είναι ευθύνη μας να προστατεύσουμε
την αξία της ανθρωπιάς μας και των γειτώνων μας. Καθώς δίνουμε δώρα ο ένας στον άλλον αυτά τα
Χριστούγεννα, ας θυμηθούμε ότι τα καλύτερα δώρα είναι η Αγάπη, ο Σεβασμός και η Ανθρώπινη
αξιοπρέπεια. Μπορούμε να μοιραστούμε αυτούς τους θησαυρούς με άλλους, γιατί χωρίς αγάπη ο ένας για τον
άλλον δεν μπορούμε να έχουμε Αγάπη για τον Θεό. Αν αγαπάμε τον Θεό, δεν μπορούμε να το κρύψουμε και
θα αποκαλυφθεί στις σχέσεις μας μεταξύ μας. Μόνο με την Αγάπη για τον άλλον μπορούμε να πλησιάσουμε
τον Θεό. Καλά Χριστούγεννα και οι Ευλογίες του Νεογέννητου Βασιλιά να μας καθοδηγούν στη ζωή μας εδώ
και στην Ουράνια Βασιλεία Του.

New and Renewed Ministries
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ.
Young Adult Ministry
It is with joy that I would like to let you know about our new and blessed ministry of young
adults. This ministry has been in my mind since the first day I came to Somerville. Now our Theotokos
has blessed us with a group of more than 15 young adults that get together on a monthly
basis. Beginning in November, they gather together for fun and educational activities. They meet
in restaurants for a dinner and speaker series. We share a Bible Study every second Thursday of
the month at the church hall. Our most recent fun event was the Celtics game that we went together
on December 13 th thanks to a generous donation from Mr. Bill Galatis. January and February
speakers will present on “Sacred Space” and “How we return to socializing post COVID”.
Previous speakers presented the topics of “Prayer” and “Fasting”. If you or someone you know

OCF (Orthodox Christian Fellowship)
The next joyful news is the formation of OCF (Orthodox Christian Fellowship) at
TUFTS University. Our first service at TUFTS was in November. More than 20 Orthodox students
joined me in the Goddard Chapel for Vespers and a fellowship and discussion afterward.
Starting in January, we will have services on a weekly basis, and we will invite all the students
who have no local home parish to come join us on Sundays at our Church. Please welcome
them and share your Love and Hospitality with them.
Golden Club
After a long COVID-related break, we finally relaunched the ministry of Golden Club.
This generation of our parishioners who have served many years to this community and beyond
are the pillar of our church upon which the new generation relies for wisdom and support.
Thanks to the efforts and hard work of Eleni Gangas and others, more than 35 Ladies and Gentlemen
of our community got together on December 11th for their annual Christmas party. It
was a joy to see many of our older brothers and sisters who felt comfortable to join in such a
wonderful celebration after COVID. We have a great plan for this wonderful ministry in the
year 2022 and beyond.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT ...
Dear Parishioners:
Are we all ready to close the chapter to 2021 and welcome the New Year with all its new possibilities? I
sure am. What will year “2022” have in store for our Dormition Church? God is the only one who can determine
that, but we all can hope and pray that Year 2022, will bring back normalcy to the things that we miss about in the
day to day church life, especially gathering in large crowds and feeling safe. A fresh year with endless possibilities
awaits us. Let’s be optimistic, let’s be hopeful and be thankful for all we have. Appreciation and an attitude full of
gratitude in the New Year can open a lot of avenues for all of us.
Even though our Parish had a lot of challenges in Year 2021, especially with the devastating fire, delays from
City Hall in obtaining our building permit, etc., etc., we need to be thankful. We need to be very thankful our church
didn’t burn to the ground, we need to be thankful that even with all the delays due to COVID, we will receive the permit.
We need to be thankful that we can take on this huge task. Keep in mind, others can’t.
I am happy to report, that the light at the end of the tunnel is finally here. Year 2022 will commence with major
changes to the beautification of God’s house. At lasτ, City Hall has FINALLY informed us that we should be receiving
the permit in the next couple weeks. The long-awaited beautification process of God’s House will finally
commence. By the end of 2022, we won’t be able to recognize our church with all its beauty. After the holidays,
we will have an informational General Assembly to show the major transformation with renderings of both the interior
and exterior of our Dormition Church. You will not want to miss this crucial meeting. I ask you to be part of our
church’s transformation every step of the way. It’s your church!
As December is wrapping up, I want to respectfully ask you to please take a moment to help your community
finish strong with our 2021 stewardship efforts as we look towards to 2022. Please take a moment to make sure you
are on track to fulfill your stewardship for 2021. Then, if haven’t done so already, please think about your 2022
stewardship; and please do so in joy and in sacrifice: that is where the opportunity for spiritual growth can be found.
On behalf of the Parish Council, I would like to wish our Dormition Church family a very Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year! Please continue to stay safe through the holiday season, and let’s bring in 2022 with
GREAT health and cheer! I would like to thank each and every member of the 2021 Parish Council for all their help
and continuous support in doing God’s work. Our Parish Council Member, Kate Ferrari will not be returning, she
needs to dedicate more time to her family and her career. We wish her the best and when she has more free time, she
can once again join us. I would like to welcome the new members of the 2022 Parish Council, some of which have
been part of the Council in prior years, Guy Bressette, James Pagounes, Eleni Raschi and Angela Shermanopoulos.
We have a lot of hard work ahead of us with the church renovations, the fire renovation, capital campaign and other
fun things. Many thanks to Fr. Anthony for his endless support, while I serve as Parish Council President and his
support in all of our ministries. Last by not least, I would like to take a moment to thank you for your continued
support by being dedicated stewards of our Dormition Church.

Αγαπητοί Ενορίτες,
Και στα Ελληνικά...
Είμαστε όλοι έτοιμοι να κλείσουμε το κεφάλαιο στο 2021 και να υποδεχτούμε το Νέο Έτος με
όλες τις νέες του δυνατότητες; Εγώ σίγουρα είμαι. Τι επιφυλάσσει το έτος «2022» για την Εκκλησία
μας, τον Ιερό Ναό Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου; Ο Θεός είναι ο μόνος που μπορεί να το καθορίσει αυτό,
αλλά όλοι μπορούμε να ελπίζουμε και να προσευχόμαστε ότι το Έτος 2022 θα επαναφέρει την
κανονικότητα στα πράγματα που μας λείπουν στην καθημερινή εκκλησιαστική ζωή, ειδικά το να
μαζευόμαστε σε μεγάλα πλήθη και να νιώθουμε ασφάλεια. Μια φρέσκια χρονιά με ατελείωτες
δυνατότητες μας περιμένει. Ας είμαστε αισιόδοξοι, ας ελπίσουμε και ας είμαστε ευγνώμονες για όλα
όσα έχουμε. Η εκτίμηση και η ευγνωμοσύνη για το νέο έτος μπορεί να ανοίξει πολλούς δρόμους για
όλους μας.
Παρόλο που η Ενορία μας είχε πολλές προκλήσεις το Έτος 2021, ειδικά με την καταστροφική
πυρκαγιά, καθυστερήσεις από το Δημαρχείο στην έκδοση της οικοδομικής μας άδειας κ.λπ., κ.λπ.,
πρέπει να είμαστε ευγνώμονες. Πρέπει να είμαστε πολύ ευγνώμονες που η εκκλησία μας δεν κάηκε
ολοσχερώς, πρέπει να είμαστε ευγνώμονες που ακόμη και με όλες τις καθυστερήσεις λόγω του COVID,
θα λάβουμε την άδεια. Πρέπει να είμαστε ευγνώμονες που μπορούμε να αναλάβουμε αυτό το τεράστιο
έργο. Λάβετε υπόψη ότι άλλοι δεν μπορούν.
Είμαι στην ευχάριστη θέση να αναφέρω ότι το φως στο τέλος του τούνελ είναι επιτέλους εδώ. Το
έτος 2022 θα ξεκινήσει με σημαντικές αλλαγές στον καλλωπισμό του οίκου του Θεού. Το Δημαρχείο
μας ενημέρωσε ΕΠΙΤΕΛΟΥΣ ότι θα λάβουμε την άδεια τις επόμενες δύο εβδομάδες. Η
πολυαναμενόμενη διαδικασία καλλωπισμού του Οίκου του Θεού θα ξεκινήσει επιτέλους. Μέχρι το
τέλος του 2022, δεν θα μπορούμε να αναγνωρίσουμε την εκκλησία μας με όλη της την ομορφιά. Μετά
τις γιορτές, θα έχουμε μια ενημερωτική Γενική Συνέλευση για να δείξουμε τη μεγάλη μεταμόρφωση με
αποδόσεις τόσο του εσωτερικού όσο και του εξωτερικού του Ναού της Κοιμήσεως μας. Δεν θα θέλετε
να χάσετε αυτή την κρίσιμη συνάντηση. Σας ζητώ να λάβετε μέρος στην μεταμόρφωση της εκκλησίας
μας σε κάθε βήμα. Είναι η εκκλησία σας!
Καθώς ο Δεκέμβριος τελειώνει, θέλω να σας ζητήσω με σεβασμό να αφιερώσετε λίγο χρόνο για
να βοηθήσετε την κοινότητά μας να τελειώσει δυνατά με τις προσπάθειες διαχείρισης του 2021 καθώς
προσβλέπουμε στο 2022. Αφιερώστε λίγο χρόνο για να βεβαιωθείτε ότι είστε σε καλό δρόμο για να
εκπληρώσετε τη οικονομική σας επιστασία για το 2021. Στη συνέχεια, αν δεν το έχετε κάνει ήδη,
σκεφτείτε τη οικονομική σας επιστασία για το 2022. Και σας παρακαλώ να το κάνετε με χαρά και θυσία:
εκεί είναι που μπορεί να βρεθεί η ευκαιρία για πνευματική ανάπτυξη.
Εκ μέρους του Ενοριακού Συμβουλίου, θα ήθελα να ευχηθώ στην ενορία μας Καλά
Χριστούγεννα και Ευτυχισμένο το Νέο Έτος! Παρακαλώ ας παραμείνουμε ασφαλείς κατά τη διάρκεια
της εορταστικής περιόδου και ας φέρουμε το 2022 με ΥΠΕΡΟΧΗ υγεία και χαρά! Θα ήθελα να
ευχαριστήσω κάθε μέλος του Ενοριακού Συμβουλίου του 2021 για όλη τη βοήθειά τους και τη συνεχή
υποστήριξή τους στο να κάνουμε το έργο του Θεού. Το μέλος του Ενοριακού Συμβουλίου μας, Kate
Ferrari δεν θα επιστρέψει. Χρειάζεται να αφιερώσει περισσότερο χρόνο στην οικογένειά της και την
καριέρα της. Της ευχόμαστε τα καλύτερα και όταν έχει περισσότερο ελεύθερο χρόνο, μπορεί και πάλι να
είναι μαζί μας. Θα ήθελα να καλωσορίσω τα νέα μέλη του Ενοριακού Συμβουλίου του 2022, μερικά από
τα οποία ήταν μέλη του Συμβουλίου τα προηγούμενα χρόνια, τον Guy Bressette, τον James Pagounes,
την Eleni Raschi και την Angela Shermanopoulos.

Έχουμε πολλή σκληρή δουλειά μπροστά μας με τις ανακαινίσεις της εκκλησίας, την ανακαίνιση
από την πυρκαγιά, την εκστρατεία κεφαλαίου και άλλα πράγματα. Ευχαριστώ πολύ τον π. Αντώνιο για
την αμέριστη στήριξή του, ενώ υπηρετώ ως Πρόεδρος του Ενοριακού Συμβουλίου και την υποστήριξή
του σε όλες τις διακονίες μας. Τελευταίο αλλά εξίσου σημαντικό, θα ήθελα να αφιερώσω ένα λεπτό
για να σας ευχαριστήσω για τη συνεχή υποστήριξή σας ως αφοσιωμένοι διαχειριστές της Εκκλησίας
της Κοιμήσεως μας.

in person or via Zoom. Story time is a wonderful way the children can connect with
Father, ask and answer questions.
