Attention all teams,

Dear friends of Formula Student Austria,

Oh what a year it has been...or rather two since the last

issue of this programme came out.

The FSA Quiz 2020 had just taken place when

a novel virus swept across Europe and Formula

Student Austria - and all other in-person FS

Events in that year as well - had to be cancelled.

This marked the first year without official

FS Track action on the continent since the start

in 1998!

The pandemic also severely limited the ability

of many teams to access their workshops and

offices. Still, the FS community powered on:

Students designed and collaborated from home, social distancing

rules allowed limited workshop activity and even

virtual events were held!

But nothing can replace the experience of meeting hundreds

of like-minded individuals, who share your passion

and your struggles and having a look at what they brought

in their van or trailer. Nothing like the real life comradery

which has been a staple of FS eversince and which we all

have been missing dearly.

And so, after a two-year hiatus, the students‘ creations can

strut their wings again under the styrian sun here on the

Red Bull Ring!

With FSA as a full-attendance event, many

things are back to normal - but the shift to online

collaboration didn‘t stop at FS. Together

with our friends from Italy we revamped and

modernized the Business Plan Presentation

and gave it a contemporary format. With two

knock-out stages held online, the first results

are available even before the event officially


And all this because somebody ate a bat.

So let‘s have a great event in the spirit of the title page and

leave the ´Rona in the dust!

Paul has been a member of the Formula Student community

since 2012 and is an expert in the field of chassis. Therefore,

he is predestined to be the chief scrutineer and the

As FSA‘s tame IT professional, Ralph makes sure that all

the electronic systems at the event, from timing to team

internet, play nice. During the rest of the year he is also

recruiting the staff and judges, without whom FSA would

As an all-time pro in the FSE community, Eugen brings the

necessary calmness to keep track of all the e-cars. During

the day you can find him in the scrutineering or battery tent

and in the evening he also likes to take a tour across the

Scope and Martin History MATZER

„The Formula SAE ® Series competitions challenge

teams of university undergraduate and graduate students

to conceive, design, fabricate, develop and compete

with small, formula style, vehicles.“

Formula SAE Rule A1.1: Competition Objective

The roots of formula student lie in 1970s Texas, as a

variant to the already existing Mini Baja (competition

for lawnmower-powered offroad vehicles). The idea

resonated well and after a few establishing years, Formula

SAE was introduced as a design competition with a very

open ruleset and also much more "race" appeal since the

cars were allowed to have engines with significant power

compared to the spec‘d single cylinders in Baja.

The event quickly picked up momentum, and in 1998 it

made the jump over the big pond when Formula Student

UK was the first non-US competition to be held. Soon other

followed and today there are eight official competitions all

over the World:

• Formula SAE Michigan

• Formula SAE Lincoln

• Formula SAE Australasia

• Formula Student Austria

• Formula SAE Brazil

• Formula Student Germany

• Formula SAE Italy

• Formula Student (UK)

Additionally, there are a whole lot of unofficial events held

around the globe, e.g. in India, the Netherlands, Hungary,

the Czech Republic and many more.

So what is it all about? Formula Student is an Engineering

Design competition that should teach engineering

students some real-world skills relevant to the automotive

and other industries. To sucessfully compete, a team

has to delve into research, design, manufacturing, testing,

developing, marketing, management and finances - this

favors or even requires the formation of multi-disciplinary

teams. This and the fact that Formula Student is as much

a project management exercise as it is an engineering

challenge, it teaches the competitors a valuable and industry-appreciated

combination of soft- and hard skills.

The vehicle itself is governed by a set of internationally

agreed upon rules. The rules have grown pretty complex

over the years (the rule book is now larger than the one for

F1), so here are the defining characteristics:


• Open-Wheel, Open-Cockpit, Formula-style body

• four wheels

• aerodynamic devices are limited in size

C - Powertrain:

• 20mm Air restrictor (19mm for E85)

• turbo/supercharging is allowed


• any number of motors and driven wheels

• 80kw peak system power

As originally intended, Formula Student has become a major

source of highly qualified graduates in the engineering

world, focused but not limited to the automotive sector.

Even in the highest classes of professional motorsports,

FS team jackets and memorabilia can be seen everywhere.

The unique combination of engineering and project management

skills required to complete and run an FS car

makes it a great preparation for real-world projects. This

is recognized by many businesses, making it an ideal stepping

stone from academics into an interesting rewarding

The first of the so-called Dynamic Disciplines is the Acceleration.

The car has to accelerate from a standstill and cover

a distance of 75 meters a quickly as possible. Due to a high

power to weight ratio, FSAE cars can do this in well below

four seconds with terminal speeds of well over 100 kph, outrunning

almost all road-going sportscars. Each team can

have two drivers, each of them doing two runs.

Maximum Score: 75

In the Skid Pad event the lateral ability of the car is tested on

a figure-eight course. After entering the course, the driver

has to go round the right circle (right turn) twice, then round

the left circle (left turn) twice - the time for the second lap of

each circle is used to determine the score. Again, each team

has 4 runs split among two drivers.

Maximum Score: 75

The Autocross track is a handling course consisting of turns,

hairpins, straights and slaloms and is roughly 1000 meters

long. Each car enters the track on its own and will do a single

“hot lap“ of the course.

The track is marked using small traffic cones which will,

when hit, result in a two-second penalty.

Each team has two runs for each of their two drivers.

Maximum score: 100

The Endurance race takes part on a closed autocross course

over a distance of 22km. At half-time a driver change is performed

and the car has to perform a hot restart. This event

is driven with multiple cars on the course but overtakes are

performed in special two-lane overtaking zones.

The fuel/energy consumption as well as the laptimes during

the Endurance are used to calculate the Efficiency score.

Maximum Score: 325 (Endurance) / 100 (Efficiency)

The most important one of the Statics is the Engineering

Design Event. During the judging the team has to present

their car to a group of automotive and racing experts. These

judges will check if the design goals have been met, if the

team members understand their design and if it has been

executed well.

Maximum Score: 150

For the Cost Event, the teams have to submit a detailed Bill of

materials up front. At the event, its correctness and completeness

checked an the team is presented with an additional

cost-related task.

During the Presentation Event, the teams have to present a

business plan for selling their design to fictional investors.

Maximum Score: 100 (Cost) / 75 (Business)

When all the events are over, the scores are added up and

the Winner Over All is determined. Additionally, prices are

given to the best teams in each discipline. From 2014 on, the

scoring was split between cars with electric and combustion

AGH University of Science and Technology

AGH Racing



After challenging period of pandemic team is ready

to fight for the win. With its latest combustion vehicle

which has already proven to be the fastest car in

team’s history AGH Racing targets the podium in

every dynamic event. Special “dragon” livery of the

car combines the most important matters and

traditions. Red, black and green are the official

colors of AGH UST, the dragon is the symbol of the

City of Krakow and characteristic folk motives refer

to traditional art of Lesser Poland.

AGH Racing is formula student team from AGH University of

Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland. Since 2012 team

develops racing car technologies becoming the Polish pioneer of

electric and driverless formula student racecars. AGH Racing has

already achieved several competiotions podiums with its last

combustion vehicle. Solid results on track and bold marketing

moves off-track resulted in AGH Racing being the most popular

Polish academic engineering circle.

Not only is the car the fastest in history of AGH Racing, but

also most technologically advanced. For the first time team

has introduced composite structure of monocoque, carbon

rims, high-end aero package inspired by legendary Lotus F1

and well reputed suspension design.

This is our TY20. The name TY20 comes from the nordic God of War TM (Ultimate Edition) „Tyr“ and 20

stands for the manufacturing year, but we can’t count properly. This year we switched to a laser-cooled

thermonuclear reactor engine, which was very easy to be fair (secretly driven by cat nip, patent pending),

giving us an increase in power of about 0,2 cat POWAZZ!!

We also switched up our wing! Now, not only do we have two baby wings on the rear wing, giving us the

ability to catch mice faster (The front wing is used as a mice trap, what else would it be used for?)!

The suspension is made up of cheese, making it easier to lure mice to the car; the driver needs his nutrition,

doesn’t he (wondering if Kimi has his drink now)? Not that he is a cat, because that would be against the

rules, silly! We just really like mice, totally serious and stuff!

Now, the chassis and seat has been constructed from the ground up to be as comfortable as it can be, and

our driver prefers it before everything else, making it a miracle, because as we all know, cats choose

everything else, and not what you give them. Also, we wanted to give a huge thanks to B&O for supplying all

the milk we needed for our little friends.

Infinity Racing - Rennteam der Hochschule Kempten e.V.


Infinity Racing – Rennteam der Hochschule Kempten e. V. is

the Formula Student teeam of the University of Applied

Sciences Kempten in Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 2007 by

five dedicated students, we developed over the years into an

established and successful Formula Student team. In the

meantime, our team consists of about 30 committed

students. We are developing both combustion and, since

2017, driverless vehicles.

This year, we are competing with our twelfth

combustion race car “TOMSOI XII” in the

Formula Student events. This car marks the

end of an era: It will be the last combustion

race car in the history of Infinity Racing.

From the next season on, we will participate

with our first electric vehicle, which currently

is being developed.

In our TOMSOI XII we combine our

experience from 14 years of racing and by

that want to celebrate the farewell

The team of the U.A.S. Graz - the weasels - got their name from a little

animal, which is also their mascot. For many years, the team members live

by the characteristics of that “spirit animal”: being night-active, agile, fast

and hungry for success.

Big changes were made this season to be more competitive and to be back to the top. With the newly

designed aerodynamic-package and self-developed ECUs the car is even lighter now. Every possibility of

weight saving was analyzed and realized. Reliability and unbeatable lap times were one of the most

important goals. The team could use the time at home for extensive driver work out sessions and further

upgrades of the jr21. Getting back on the test track meant extensive testing of the car and further training of

the drivers before the competitions.

FS Austria is the weasel ‘s favorite competition!

Not only because they have to drive an hour if they forgot important parts at

home, but also because FSA embodies everything Formula Student is about:

popular location, spiced with incredible teams, never-ending beer spring and

topped with an awesome atmosphere all day long.

The perfect recipe for a competition.

We are MAD Formula Team, the Formula Student team from University

Carlos III of Madrid. Our 2021 season, when we will use the brand new

MFT01, will mark the 5th car the team builds since our first appearance in

Formula Student competitions back in 2016. We are a group of more than 50

highly motivated students, trying to learn and do the best we can while we

enjoy the journey, and push ourselves to the limit.

Previously we were known as Formula UC3M, but we have founded new team.

We keep our knowledge and past experiences, but everything else has

changed to improve our results.

Above all, there are 4 values that determined what MAD Formula Team is:

1. Original-practical thinking, we want to conceive a

new succesful car concept, but also we prioritize

simplicity and effectiveness.

2. Dedication, we make an effort to understand the

limits and we go as close to them as one possibly

could, and we never give up.

3. Organization, we understand that every single

person is important for the team, that internal

communication must flow, and that organization is our

main strength and provides the synergy of efforts that

makes success possible. We must run like clockwork.

4. Love and passion for what we do, we spend a lot of time together suffering for the same

things and dreaming about the same successes. Eventually, we have become like a family.

We can distinguish disagreement from disrespect. We trust each other, we help each other,

we are honest, straightforward and we watch each other’s backs when needed. We take care

of each other. That is precisely what true love is all about, right?

Our season will be successful if we work having always in mind these 4 values and develop a

reliable car that allows us to complete the Dynamic events.

Road Arrow Combustion Team


In November 2010, students of the University of Belgrade founded the Student Technical

Competitions Association, and immediately launched the first project. They formed the first Formula

Student team, called Road Arrow. Since 2020, the team is split into two projects, Road Arrow

Combustion and Road Arrow Electric, and after nine years of launching combustion class vehicles,

this season will be Road Arrow's last in which it will feature a combustion class vehicle. After a

disappointing performance at FS Austria in 2014, Road Arrow is looking to improve its overall

success and bring it on. The team is easily recognizable as we are always shouting wherever we

are and accompanying those sweet sounds is of course Serbian folk music, adding to the overall

atmosphere. We are eager to see what the competition brings and to learn from all of you, and we

are looking forward to visiting the Red Bull Ring

once again. See you guys there!

MMR - MoRe Modena Racing was founded in 2003, in the heart of

the Italian Motor Valley. It is based in the Engineering Department

“Enzo Ferrari”, and today the team includes more than 100 students,

who everyday draw inspiration from this land and turn it into


The actual prototype of MMR team is called “M21-L”, a car with a unique design. The main

characteristics are: a carbon fiber monocoque from carbon fiber molds, an high performance selfdeisgned

longitudinal engine 708 cc derived from a Suzuki GSXR 750 cc with bevel gear

transmission combined.

Also, the car has got a complete aeropakcage with movable

elements (DRS and front wing flaps), an innovtive suspension

system is fully integrated with the aero devices. Electronics is all

self developed with live telemetry and electronic ETC. We also

have composite rims designed and manufactured inhouse.

MMR was the first Formula Student team, and maybe it is still

the only one, adopting a bevel gear solution for the transmission

and a logitudinal engine, winning the "Most Innovative Powertrain" prize during the Hockenheim

event in 2016. Currently the team is placed 23rd place in the world ranking for combustion category

and we are confident to reach the top 10. After gaining the

mentioned result, now MoRe-Modena Racing looks to the future:

the team intends to grow up looking at the perspective of the

automotive world. In 2018, MMR started two new project beyond

We are High-Octane Motorsports, the Formula Student Team from the Friedrich-Alexander-University of

Erlangen-Nuremberg. The team was founded in 2007 and we participated in the events with combustion

vehicles since then. This year we have managed our biggest challenge in the history of our team yet -

building three racecars in one season. We are proud to present to you our last combustion vehicle the

FAUmax ny.

In the design process of the FAUmax ny we decided to maximize the aerodynamic force and design the rest

of the car accordingly. Therefore we designed a new chassis, to give the wings more space. In order to fit

the engine package in the body we changed the setup and rotated the engine by 90°. We also decided on a

roll heave suspension system and made some changes in the electrical canbus system. These are just

some of our upgrades. If you want to know more you can always come by our pit. We’re looking forward to

Since 2008 students of TAMK University of applied sciences have

participate Formula Student Competition. This year Tampere UAS

Motorsport Team consist of over 70 students whom have been part

of the prosess designing and building the vehicle.

TFS 21 vehicle is competing in

Combustion Vehicles class and new to

our vehicle is that we are currently

running on E85 ethanol fuel and engine

is now turbocharged.

Engine have gone through slight

changes to be cabable to run

turbocharger. Also number of electric

telemetrys and data logging have been

improved a lot. We can adjust vehicles

suspension system according to the

feedback from driver but also from multiple sensors. This helps us develop the vehicle to faster response

and better drivability. Dispite of increasing number of parts in the vehicle we have still managed to keep it

light. Even though we are using steel pipe frame, our vehicle is on of the lightest in it`s class.

as the most successful Hungarian combustion engine team in Formula Student. This year we are competing in FS

We are the Formula Student Team from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. 2019 season results

placed the FSUPV Team 3rd in the FS World Ranking List and despite the pandemic effects, we have

been extremely motivaded to even improve these results with the FSUPV-08 prototype. Our

traditional Honda CBR 600 RR engine has been more modified to increase its torque output and

efficiency, which is fitted to our optimized full monocoque chassis. A new aerpopackage has been

developed, focusing on increasing middle-car downforce, together with the Dynamics sub-team,

which has also focused on reducing our suspension assembly weight.

BME Formula Racing Team is the pioneer of Hungary’s FS teams. At the beginning, BME FRT made

cars powered by gasoline, but in 2011 we were the first team in the country to race in the

Since the founding of Formula SAE in 1981 and the establishment of Formula Student in 1998, there

has never been a season quite like this one. With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in spring of

2020, the cancellation of all FS events, and the lockdown in large parts of Europe, we were faced with

numerous new challenges.

GreenTeam Uni Stuttgart, which has participated in several

European competitions every year since the first Formula

Student Electric competition in 2010, decided during the

lockdown to stop production of the 2020 vehicle and instead

continue to develop and optimize the race car. This

fundamental decision resulted in the creation of the E0711-11

EVO through the collaboration of a total of 60 students, which

The TUfast Racing Team of TU Munich consists of 70 team members

who developed and built a new racing car this season. The main goal

was to develop a new concept to combine the driverless system in our

EV car concept. And so we started a new era with us this season. The

xb021 is the first of our cars that can drive both autonomously and with

a driver. Integrating the autonomous components into our existing system was a challenge that we

overcame together.

To make this possible, we have placed great emphasis on the autonomous components since the beginning

of the season. We also tried to make sure that the driver is disturbed as little as possible by the additional

The AMZ Racing team was founded in 2006 by students of

ETH Zurich. After having built three cars powered by

combustion engines, AMZ has moved forward to

developing electric racing cars since 2010.

For this season the AMZ electric Team built their

fourteenth car, alvier. alvier is powered by completely

self-developed power electronics and motors.

Furthermore it is the first race car built by AMZ

featuring active ride height and rear-wheel steering.

Additionally, an improved “hydraulic” partially mode

decoupled suspension is implemented on the car. A

full aerodynamic kit is attached to the chassis to

increase grip with the help of a 3D front wing main

We are TU Wien Racing, the Formula Student Team of the Vienna University of Technology. A team of

91 students from all across Vienna, fueled by passion and caffeine, dedicating our time and mental

well-being to build a race car like never be-fur. Our main focus has always been on lightweight design

and in-house development, and again with our newest car - the EDGE12 - we nailed them both purrfectly.

So fur so good, the EDGE12 was supposed to purr-ticipate in Formula Student Events last summer.

Unfurtunately, that was im-paw-sible. But we decided to keep a paw-sitive mind and use the extra

time to not only work on our next car but also finetune our EDGE12 to meow-ximum purr-fection.

Fachhochschule Konstanz

Bodensee Racing Team


Facing ever-increasing fuel prices, we decided to switch from

our money burning combustion engine to an extremely

affordable, all electric drivetrain. The battery cells were found in

an abandoned camping van near our workshop and were

therefore completely free of charge. The motors were stripped

from 2 old hairdryers (If any team has more old hairdryers

laying around, feel free to contact us. We would love to switch

to a 4-wheel drive for the upcoming season).

Our biggest challenge this year was to find an affordable way of

charging our accumulator. When our university found out that 80% of

our annual electricity consumption in the workshop is caused by our

massive sound system, we sadly had to pay our own electricity bills. We

thought about using PV-panels as an ecological way to generate our

own electricity, but because most of the team’s activity is after 8pm, this

was deemed unfeasible (and oh boy, PV-panels are expensive!!).

Luckily, the Bodensee is full of electric Eels (Electrophorus electricus),

which provide a sustainable, green source of energy. Patent pending.

We are therefore able to present our first all electric and definitely not

much more expensive car, the ILTIS2021E!

High-Voltage Motorsports


We are High-Octane Motorsports, the Formula Student Team from the Friedrich-Alexander-University of

Erlangen-Nuremberg. The team was founded in 2007 and we participated in the events with combustion

vehicles since then. This year we have managed one of our biggest challenges in the history of our team yet,

building three racecars in one season. With the additional challenge of our first electrical car we’ve faced many

novelties and challenges but are proud to present our FAUmax Xi.

For the design of our car we took the concepts of our combustion vehicle as a basis and mainly changed the

powertrain. And of course the necessary changes in the electrical system and the introduction of our high

voltage system. This gave us the opportunity to focus on the development of our first electric powertrain. We

are using an Emrax 208 engine with the maximal power of 68 kW and the Cascadia Rinehart PM100DX

inverter. Our accumulator achieves a maximum voltage of 415.8 V and capacity of 7.6 kWh. It consists of 9

stacks, each with 55 cells.

As a newcomer this year our goal is to gain as much experience as possible at the events to build a solid

foundation for the upcoming seasons. We are looking forward to participate at FSA and to meet you in the

Gina - just your regular

complicated girl

The TU Graz Racing Team was founded in

2002 and built 16 combustion racecars so far.

After the 2019 season, we decided to go with

the flow and start competing with an electric

car instead. So, this is the first competition with

our electrically powered TANKIA 2021 named

Gina and the first competition for many of our

members, so we are very excited for FSA!

Gina is incredibly good-looking,

has a great shape and impressive

inner values. But just when

we thought she was perfect and

ready to be introduced to our

friends and the world, Gina

decided to show her true colors. As a true introvert, she managed

to manipulate her in(tro)verter to make sure she could stay

home and chill for a while. This is also the reason why she always

ar drives late to the party. However, once she is ready, things heat

up very quickly which is why she is always surrounded by lots of

men. In order to please them, she is very self-conscious about her

weight and tries hard to be as light as possible. Nonetheless, we

managed to overcome all complications with Gina and now we are

looking forward to seeing her perform on the tracks of FSA and the

other competitions this summer.

After thirteen years competing as ETSEIB Motorsport, we decided to

change our name but not our essence. BCN eMotorsport has born to

perform, or at least we try it.

We are coming to Formula Student Austria 2021 to compete with our fastest CAT that we

have ever made: the CAT13e. The team has focused on one main goal, which has been

to optimize our previous prototype and introduced both a new aeropackage and a new

cooling system. Also, a

more efficient CAT

Vectoring algorithm has

been introduced in

order to improve our

traction system. In adition, many improvements

have been placed in order to the reduce the weight

of our CAT. Our best car is the result of the hard

work that three generations have made. We are

ready to race again.

Revolve NTNU


Revolve NTNU was founded by 4 students in

2010. We started out developing combustion

cars, but switched to electric in 2014 and had

our first 4wd electric car in 2016. In 2018 we

joined the new challenge of developing an

autonomous racecar while still developing a

new electric racecar, all in 9 months.

The team consists of 60 students from over 15

different fields of study, and from all five years.

Our greatest achievement at Formula Student

so far was when we won the “wiggle waggle

wobble wing award” at FSG in 2013.

Unfortunately, that was the first and last time

we received this great honor.

This year we are looking forward to

demolishing all competition in our new beast of

a car: LUNA. As you can probably tell, LUNA

is smokin hot!!

CM-21x “EVA”

We proudly present our CM-21x, our fourth

vehicle and first that can also drive autonomously.

With over 70 students from all over

Germany, we have worked on it in this

extraordinary season and not only developed

further in the EV field, but also built up

a DV team, which integrated their components

into our "EVA". Eva's appearance is

accentuated by a new aerodynamic package

consisting of a front wing, rear wing and

underbody with diffuser, which enhances

the performance of our new race car and

represents the biggest intervention in

vehicle dynamics. Our one-way telemetry

via LTE provides a detailed insight into our

vehicle to all authorized team members in

real-time wherever they are -on the racetrack

or supporting from home.
