INTRODUCTION 

Welcome to our eleventh issue of EPM 

Showcars Magazine! 

My Partner Yvonne and I are so pleased 

at how well our issues have done this year 

and are very excited about this latest issue. 

We would like to thank all of the

Car Owner: Marcus Grimes 

Car: 1973 Chevrolet Impala 

Car name:”Green Machine” - “EMMA” 

We decided on doing this photoshoot at the KANSAS CITY murial at FOX Equiptment 

in the crossroads. This murial has so many distinct images that represent the KC area. 

Marcus Grimes is the proud owner of this gorgeous 1973 Chevrolet Impala. How 

he came about to own this car is definitely a story of love. Back in 2015 he decided he 

wanted to become part of the Donk world. At that time he owned a 2005 Chrysler 300 

that he had really customized. He wanted to sell the 300 to get enough capital to search 

and buy a car to turn into a Donk. He eventually sold it to a guy in Oklahoma. Then Marcus 

started his search and found this 73 Impala aka “Emma” in Nashville, Tennessee. 

He drove down to purchase her and pick her up. The car needed a few dents and some 

other repairs to get it to a certain point. The customization of the car took about 3 years. 

Then Marcus sold the Impala and another car to a buddy of his in 2018. With the money 

he recieved from selling the Impala he bought a 1975 Caprice convertible, did some 

work on the Caprice, however within a years time he realized that he missed the Impala. 

Throughout the whole interview Marcus referred the car as she or “Emma”. She was his 

first Donk and preferred the hardtop car over the convertible. He then ended up selling 

the Caprice convertible to the same buddy and worked out a deal where he got the 

Impala back aka “Emma” in 2019. She had been gonq2ee for about a year and Marcus 

was very happy to have her back! He started showing the Impala in 2021 along with taking 

her to alot of cruises and car meets. He really enjoys sharing his love and passion for 

this car with others! 

Marcus is also the Vice President of the “Real Riders” car club of Kansas City. Their 

car club is envolved in many charities in and around the Kansas City area.

Q: What gratification do you get 

from showing your car? 

A: I really enjoy hearing from others 

commenting on everything that I 

have done to the Impala and their 

appreciation of it. 

Q: What got you into doing car 

shows? 

A: I started in 2009, joined a car club 

“Real Riders” which now I am the 

Vice President of. 

Q: How many car shows do you 

attend each year? 

A: I usually attend 10 or more local 

car shows and go to 3 or more out 

of town shows. 

Q: Are there any certain car shows 

that you attend every year? 

A: I attend brother & sisters club car 

shows- “Playtime”. 

Q: What mods have you done? 

A: The engine is a 402 big block w/ 

mild cam, air cleaner, cvf racing 

cerpentine, 300m alternator, electric 

fan, sand in air compressor, chrome 

headers, 700 R4 transmission, 

dual exhaust, lowered the rearend, 

air shocks and many other customiza 

tions. 

Q: What mods do you want to do? 

A: “Emma” is perfect how she is! 

Q: Anything else you'd like to add? 

A: I would like to give a BIG SHOUT OUT 

to “Real Riders” car club, Charles-who 

taught me how to work on motors and 

1010 Motors. 

Q: Do you have any other hobbies 

or interests? 

A: Cars are my hobbie!

A: I also have a 1987 Cadillac. 

Q: If money wasn't an object which 

car would you buy? 

A: I already have my car! 

Q: What are your original specs? 

A: The engine was a 350 with a 350 

turbo transmission.

The engine is a 

402 BIG BLOCK 

from a 1979 Camaro 

rebuilt with 

a mild cam with a 

700R4 transmission 

putting out 

about 400 HP. The 

engine was rebuilt 

by Herb from Independence, 

Missouri. 

The engine 

has custom pieces 

throughout and 

also has a custom 

grill designed by 

Marcus himself. 

The rims are 26” 

Staus, with a lowered 

rear (squat) 

with air shocks in 

the back, reduced 

springs and original 

on the front. 

The exhaust is 

dual with mid 

dump just before 

the rear wheels. 

The trunk and the 

interior were custom 

designed by 

Cordell in Kansas 

City, Mo. Marcus 

let him know 

things he would 

like to have and 

Cordell designed it 

for him. 

There are many 

custom pieces 

from many states. 

The steering wheel 

is from Arizona, 

chrome headers 

from Iowa and 

some things from 

Donkparts.com. 

Marcus installed 

the L.E.D. lights 

himself and OEM 

headlights. 





“BLUE DIAMOND”

Car name: “Blue Diamond” 

Model: Brittney Carr, Dej Marie and Nafeesah Ervin 

This photoshoot was done at a graffitti wall on Truman Road just a few blocks from 

HWY-70. 

Maurte Walker is the proud owner of this one of a kind El Camino. As a child he had 

always wanted to own a car just like this. The look of the El Camino always caught his 

attention because of the combination of a car and a truck all in one! So we can say this 

is like a childhood dream come true! One day in 2017 he was online searching for a car 

to restore and happen to come across this 1987 El Camino for sale. He contacted the 

owner and made arrangements to go and look at the car. The car was located in Olathe, 

Kansas and was owned by a woman who was given the car by her father that had 

passed away. He felt the car was in very good condition, so he was very excited to get 

the process of restoration and customization started. Maurte didn’t waste anytime on 

starting the restoration of the car. He immediately drove it from the sellers house to the 

paint and body shop get the work started. The body work and the paint job took about 

6 months and was done at Midwest Kustoms in Kansas City. He then took it to 1010 

Motors in KC for some engine work that took about 3 weeks. After that he drove it to 

Cordell for the custom interior to be done. The total restoration and customization took 

about 2 years. Maurte stated he feels that you have to have love and passion for the 

cars that you customize, so the true vision of yourself comes to life. He is also a member 

of the “Real Riders” Car Club of Kansas City who the President is Brock and Vice President 

is Marcus. This local car club definitely represents the Kansas City area and also 

contributes their time for charities.

A: In 1987 Chevrolet El Camino had the 

option of the new fuel-injected 4.3L 

V6 with an automatic transmission. 




This spectacular 

interior was done 

by Cordell Customs 

in Kansas 

City, Mo. The interior 

is definitly a 

masterpiece and 

goes great with the 

El Camino. The 

headliner adds to 

the customization 

for sure. With the 

leather diamond 

design and the blue 

velvet material 

hence the name 

“Blue Diamond” 

The El Camino is 

a childhood dream 

car of Maurte, so 

when he came 

across it for sale he 

knew he had to buy 

it! 

The engine in this 

El Camino is a 305 

small block with 

chrome value covers. 

Of course having 

to have a blue 

air cleaner to top 

it off and go with 

the color theme of 

the car. The custom 

paint job is the 

color Electric Blue 

which was done by 

Midwest Kustoms 

and the pin stripping 

was done by 

Maurte himself. 

The exhaust of this 

car is stock and 

the suspension has 

been lifted so to fit 

the 22” Staggart 

wire rims.

Car: 1973 Chevy Monte Carlo 

Car name: “Dark Horse” 

Model: Bia Vonroe 

This photoshoot was done at a murial on the back wall of a business in the Crossroads 

of Kansas City. This murial really brings out the smooth body lines of this car. 

Nick is the proud owner of this 1973 Monte Carlo. He has very fond memories of the 

older body style Monte’s. When he was 16 years old he use to have one and really enjoyed 

driving the car around because of the stance of the car and how it handeled. He 

always wanted to change out the motor of his first Monte but never got the chance to do 

so. 

Back in late 2018 Nick was on Marketplace browsing and he happened to come 

across this specific car for sale. The car was located in Kearney Missouri. He contacted 

the seller and went to check out the car. Nick stated that the Monte was in very good 

shape and he grew more excited in purchasing the car from the seller. The seller was 

the original owner who had purchased the car brand new in 1973. Nick drove the Monte 

Carlo all around the Kansas City area for about two and a half years as he was doing 

the restoration to the car. In January of 2021 Nick decided to swap out the engine to give 

the car more power. He takes pride in any and all of the work that has been done on the 

car because he has done it all himself! 

The power of the Monte Carlo was one that many didn’t realize because of the look of 

the car. The long front end and short rear are very deceiving, giving the car a look as if it 

was very heavy. The Monte Carlo may have been heavy but Chevrolet made sure they 

put the right motors in them that make them one of the more popular American Muscle 

cars!

50 years old.

to give it his personal 

touch.

running about 550 

HP, 350 turbo 

transmission and 

2.73 rear gears 

and a full magnaflow

Car name: “Parkin lot PIMPIN” 

We decided to do this photoshoot behind FOX Equipment in the crossroads of Kansas 

City. The many different angles of several murials of color was the perfect spot for this 

Caprice. 

Nicholas has always had a love of the 1970’s Caprice cars. During his interview you 

could hear the passion in his voice about this original 1975 Caprice Classic. In 2018 one 

of Nick’s buddies found the car online and let him know about it being for sale. Nick 

decided to travel to East St Louis Illinois where the car was located. He had a couple of 

stipulations when he is purchasing a car. Usually he doesn’t buy cars that are in Missouri, 

normally he travels out of state for purchasing them. This one just happened to be 

on the other side of the state. Then if he can’t drive it back to KC he won’t buy it. 

Nick enjoys driving them back to his home to get the feel of the car and enjoy the drive. 

He believes the cars are meant to be driven not trailered. Nick also believes in keeping 

the cars that he buys in their original state as much as possible, as when they came off 

the assembly line. With this Chevy Caprice he did decide to put the 22” Dayton’s on it 

about two weeks after he had purchased it. 

Nick really enjoys cruisin’ around in this 75 Caprice, driving to the different locations 

around the KC area and meeting new people who have the same love of cars that he 

has. He especially enjoys it when the older generations come up to him and start talking 

about their experience in a Caprice. Especially when they are saying specific things 

about the car and then say we use to have one back in the day. That is what motivates 

Nick to keep buying and cruising these amazing cars!

The interior of this

original except for 

the custom console 

that was made for 

the upgraded stereo 

system just for 

this car. The system 

consists of a Kenwood 

stereo with 

mids and highs. As 

you can see, the 

interior is still in 

excellent shape and 

for it being a convertible 

everything 

is still functioning. 

Nicholas hasn’t 

done any other 

modifications to 

this Caprice other 

then the 22” gold 

Dayton rims that 

have Vogue tires. 

The engine is the 

original 350 BIG 

BLOCK with a 350 

turbo transmission, 

original exhaust ,

Nicholas really 

enjoys taking this 

beautiful car out for 

a night of cruising 

around the Kansas

Car: 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 

Car name: “Blue” 

We decided to do this photoshoot at the Murial wall of Incite Design Studio in the 

crossroads of Kansas City. The color of the wall brings out the color and curves of the 

car. 

Derek Dowdell is the proud owner of this custom painted 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass 

Supreme. The story of this car may be a little surprising or maybe it was destiny! Derek 

was serving in the Military back in 2017 and had decided that he wanted to go check 

out the lemon lot on base. The lemon lot is what they call the lot where service members 

would have cars that they want to sell. That is where he came across the Cutlass. Derek 

had conversation with one of his service buddy’s that also had interest in buying the car. 

He later found out that his buddy had changed his mind and no longer was interested in 

buying the Cutlass. At that point Derek went back to the lemon lot and the car was not 

there. He thought that the car had already been sold. In 2018 he was going through his 

phone and came across the picture of the add that was on the car and decided to take 

a chance and call the number to see if the car was still for sale. Luckily he had taken a 

picture of the car and the ad that was on the car that stated it was for sale. The owner of 

the Cutlass stated that they were in California but the car was stored in a barn in Missouri. 

He was in contact with the owner and made arrangements to pruchase the Cutlass. 

Derek bought the car in 2018, a year after originally seeing the car on the lemon lot 

at the base. 

He started doing the modifications to the Cutlass at the end of 2019. He first did the 

stereo system and then took it to have modifications done to the frame and fenders.
