Gum’s Coffee Feature
Central Coast Coffee Roasting Company Inc.
Recently while visiting the Central Coast of California on a mini- Vacation we stayed in Los Osos,CA at the Sea
Pines Golf Resort. For Breakfast one morning we were given a tip to try Celia’s Cafe in Los Osos since they were
pooch friendly on their outdoor patio. As usual I ordered coffee with breakfast and the coffee Celia’s served
was off the charts. I asked the server what brand the coffee was and she said it was from the Central Coast
Coffee Roasting Company located in Los Osos. Well that tip led me to visit the Coffee Makers facility in Los
Osos that same morning. I met with Founders grandson and let him know about my experience at Celia’s and
the great coffee. He said the coffee they provide Celia’s was the The Morning Fog Lifter ground coffee. Of
course I snagged a bag to takes home. I highly recommend the Morning Fog Lifter from the Central Coast Coffee
Roasting Company. You can visit their website and order online: www.sloroasted.com
Buying Real Estate is a way to
achieve Financial Security
By Milt Million
We have all heard that 90% of Millionaires
have become Millionaires through Real
Estate. When asked what is the best time to
buy Real Estate my answer is it is always a
good time to buy Real Estate. My advise is
to buy real estate particularly single family
homes that have potential for an upside gain.
Also known as fixer uppers.
Always do your due diligence before
buying. If you find a fixer that has some bones
to it you may be in luck to purchase the home.
The next step is to fix it up to sell it or lease it.
Is buying the ugliest house in the neighborhood
for everyone? The answer is no. But the
upside of buying a property with potential is
that your investment will most likely pay off in
the long run, that is if you are willing to put in
the time and money. While Real Estate in LA
and Orange
County may be out of reach for most, consider
looking for real estate in different counties
or states to start your Real Estate Portfolio.
Start small and dream Big !
At Peter’s Landing Huntington Harbour
Huntington Harbour the 5 Islands + 1
by Sandy Sunset
Huntington Harbour consists of five man-made islands + 1
if you add Sunset Isle which was in existence before the
development of Huntington Harbor. When Huntington
Harbour was developed the homeowners lost their backyard
which was Sunset Bay Estuary Wetlands, In place of the
Sunset Bay Estuary Sunset Beach Homeowners property
was cut off with a block wall which still exists today where
the former Sunset Bay Estuary started. The five islands
of Huntington Harbour consist of Davenport, Trinidad,
Humboldt, Gilbert, & Admiralty
Huntington Harbour construction began in 1963 at a cost
of some $200 million, with the harbors and peninsulas
located on the former site of the historic Sunset Bay
Estuary wetlands which of course was destroyed with the
dredging and filling to develop the land for the new
community of Huntington Harbour.
Peter’s Landing Marina was made famous back in the day
for the Red Onion Bar and Restaurant located in the Marina
where singles from all over So Cal made the trip to
Huntington Harbour to gather at one of the hottest bars in
the 70’s and 80’. Red Onion is no more and the building is
now occupied by Calvary Chapel of Huntington Harbour.
The Marina at Huntington Harbour provides
complimentary two-hour guest slips on a first-come,
first-served basis for mariners who enjoy waterfront dining
at Pelican Isle. Huntington Harbour is well known for
kayaking and paddleboarding enthusiasts. Rentals are
available for a nominal fee along PCH at several locations as
well as Duffy Boat Rentals.
About Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach is a beachfront community located in Orange County, California. In 2011, it was annexed by Huntington Beach. Sunset
Beach features one of the widest beaches in southern California. Running parallel to the beach, from the north of town to the southern
edge is the Green Belt, a bucolic 14 acre park on which residents walk their dogs. Southeast of Sunset Beach is Bolsa Chica State Beach.
To the east is the bayfront community of Huntington Harbour
(part of Huntington Beach), and roughly north is the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, and the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge.
The small gated community of Surfside located between Sunset Beach and the Weapons Station is part of Seal Beach, with the rest of Seal
Beach on the other side of the Weapons Station.
Sunset Beach does not have residential mail delivery. Instead, residents pick up their mail at post office boxes in the centrally-located post
office or at private post office boxes located on 22nd Street. Sunset Beach is served by the Sunset Beach Sanitary District. The SBBA /
Sunset Beach Business Association was founded by Art Snyder Owner of Don the Beachcomber and local Real Estate Broker “JB” James
Book Review
57 JOBS & COUNTING By Sunset Beach’s
James B. Griffin, 154 Pages
Reviewed by Chris MacDonald for The Sun
Longtime Sunset Beach resident James Griffin’s latest book is part autobiography, part guide to finding your passion,
part pastor (Colossians 3:23-”And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord”), part psychologist (“When picking
a job, make sure you follow your heart, not your emotions”) part Realtor/Broker advice and more.
Griffin, who has three kids, not only talks about his 57+ jobs (his first was at Johnny’s Hamburgers in South Pasadena
in 1967) but offers invaluable tips like, “Volunteering is a great way to get contacts and network, which can help
your career”).
He also doesn’t pull punches when he talks about challenges in life that he has gone through, including divorces,
deaths, being fired, getting cut from sport’s teams and surviving difficult bosses and co-workers. You’ll learn about his
beloved wife, Coby, and the dogs he cherishes.
Some of the 65-year-old’s jobs, include McDonald’s Trash Collector, Minute Man Press Assistant Manager/Counter
Sales, Long Beach Unified School District Special Education Intern & Resource Specialist, Substitute Teacher for
Ocean View Unified School District, Golf Instructor, Folding Carton Salesman, Life Insurance Salesperson, Greyhound
Bus Driver, LAX Airport Shuttle Driver, Limo Driver, Amway Independent Distributor, Nordic Track Demonstrator,
Print Model, Used RV Salesman, Subway Sandwich maker, Computer Salesperson, So Cal Italian Festival
Producer, Realtor/Broker, UCLA Athletics Staff Management & book publisher.
The 1977 Cal State Los Angeles Grad, who earned a BS in Printing Management, writes, “The best laid plans for
your career may not have always worked out as you had hoped but your faith must be everlasting. It is very healthy
for us to anchor our new life & recovery from other jobs or relationships in the certainty that Christ is coming again.
By trusting Christ with our future, we can better deal with our past and live a more productive present life.”
A co-founder of the American Single Parents Network; founder of the Developmental Disabilities Golf Clinic and a
Mike Ballew
If you live in Sunset Beach you can’t miss meeting Mike Ballew a Sunset Beach local by way of Washington State
where Mike was born and raised. The former University of Washington, World Football League and NFL Player
stands 6’ 5”. Mike has trimmed down a bit from his 250 pounds playing weight which was considered big in the
1970s. During his career Mike was paid to push people around as an Offensive Lineman and Defensive End.
After his playing career ended, Mike took to Hollywood and acting where he was on the Big Screen for many
movies. Yes you bet he was cast as a Football Player. He appeared in North Dallas 40 and many others. Mike
can tell you he had a nice run doing what he loved, Football without the pain. Today Mike is facing a different
challenge in life. A few years ago Mike was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease. He is fighting it out one day at a
time and staying positive. Mike has taken up kick boxing to keep active and to help him battle the disease. Next
time you see Mike give him a high five and tell him you read about him on gummy7 Mag!
