So what’s the solution? What’s
our plan to help them avoid
this dismal fate? The answer is
simple: we listen, we learn, and
then we act.
We are not saviors who swoop in with heavy
boots and a master plan. We’re a nimble
learning organization that empowers
communities with the relief they need for
their community. We don’t dump and run.
We invest in the local community when
it needs it most. Our efforts are fueled
by local hands, and we partner with local
leaders, organizations, governments, and
other stakeholders.
When there’s a crisis, we don’t just bandage
the superficial wounds. We work together
with the local community to support
their immediate holistic needs and a
path to long-term recovery. Disasters are
devastating. There’s no getting around that.
But we believe they’re an opportunity to
address the inequities that create avoidable
devastation every day.
What we’re up to
We began in Haiti, out of an ethical imperative to support
those in need after the devastating earthquake in 2010.
We’re still there today, with a Haitian-based team running
community building programs.
Today, our global programs span from continued COVID-19
relief in Los Angeles and India, to the frontlines of the
Ukraine humanitarian crisis, to disaster preparedness
training in North Carolina and climate resilience programs
in Haiti, to disaster response and recovery efforts in New
Orleans and Brazil.
