LEE TARTT NATURE PRESERVE

Just over the bridge on North Main St.

www.facebook.com/LeeTarttNaturePreserve/

This Tupelo-cypress swamp was formed years ago by the meandering

channel of the Yalobusha River. A meadow and

mature hardwood forest surroung the swamp and can be

explored by foot rail. A boardwalk leads to the edge of

the swamp next to a small boat slip.

MALMAISON WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT

AREA www.MDWFP.com

This 9,483 acre WMA is as diverse and unique as any other

public area in the state. State HWY 7 divides the WMA at the

delta/hills interface in Grenada County. Roughly 800 acres of the WMA lies in the

loess hills and the rest in the Yalobusha/Mississippi River floodplain. McIntyre Scatters

is a shallow swampy lake perfect for paddling and the western edge of the WMA

and contains 500 to 600 acres open to the public.

TALLAHATCHIE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

www.FWS.gov/refuge/tallahatchie

Since these lands were acquired by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 1,300 acres have

been reforested with native hardwood species. The refuge’s largest unity is a patchwork of

old fields and scattered hardwood forests bisected by the meandering Tippo Bayou.

forest of Malmaison Wildlife Management Area (MWMA), past the swampy sloughs

and crop lands of the Yazoo River basin and into the heart of Greenwood. Put in at Grenada
