MONROE COUNTY COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
Transforming Lives
Gratitude Report
2020 - 2021
Educating All Students!
Educating through a Pandemic!
In the spring of 2020 our community, along with the
rest of the world, experienced an unprecedented change
in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Education
changed in ways that none of us could imagine. Our
classrooms shifted from in-person to remote learning
while our educators, administration and support staff
worked tirelessly to make this happen. There were
many struggles but educators reinvented what learning
means and looks like.
The Foundation responded by working with MCCSC
to help provide financial support for needs such as
basic school supplies, outdoor learning spaces, internet
connectivity and hot spots, online learning tools, food
assistance, emotional support, and more. Traditional
programs, Real Men Read and Girls in Engineering,
Math and Science, were provided in a virtual setting.
We added four new scholarships making this year the
largest number and value of scholarships awarded to our
graduates.
Yes, it was an unprecedented year filled with many
challenges but the generosity of loyal and new donors
made this a year to celebrate. As you turn the pages of
our annual report, I believe you will see how your gifts
are supporting the educational needs of our teachers and
students and also building a sustainable model for future
generations.
As always, I am deeply grateful for the support of our
community. Gifts from individuals, businesses, and
foundations help keep our students learning.
Thank you for making a difference!

We Remember -
This year we grieve the loss of four amazing people who impacted the MCCSC community
during their lifetime. To celebrate their lives, family and friends of each, created a legacy
endowment to keep their passions alive and help future generations soar. You are forever in our
hearts.
For over two
decades, David
Tanner served as
the swim coach
for Bloomington
High School North,
developing a
program displaying
characteristics in line
with his personal
beliefs. A scholarship will be awarded annually to a
graduating senior member of the BHSN swim and
dive team who most exemplifies the qualities that
Dave embodied: kindness, selflessness, determination,
humility, civility, and team spirit.
Benjamin Tait
graduated from
Bloomington
High School
South in 2018.
He was an
outstanding
student,
musician,
and Science
Olympian. Ben
was cheerful,
optimistic, and kind. Annually a scholarship
will be awarded to a college-bound senior at
Bloomington High School South, who has
demonstrated outstanding musicianship in band
and excellent scholarship.
Greta Simon-Mumper was a BHSN
faculty member and mother of
Jakob and Emma. In memory of
her passion and work with children
having mild to moderate special
needs a fund is created to support
enrichment grants for faculty
members fighting the good fight.
Jakob Mumper attended Bloomington High
School North where he was an awardwinning
swimmer, an honor student, a
member of the National Art Honor Society,
and a Cougar Den Leader. He was also
the president of Bring Change to Mind, an
organization that gives students a platform
to share their voices and raise awareness
of mental health. A scholarship will be
awarded annually to a graduating senior
member of the BHSN boys swim team who
exemplifies his love of swimming and encouraging others.
