Melbourne
Airport
PICK UP RANKS
Taxis and Hire Cars have served
Melbourne Airport well for
decades, but late last year
Melbourne Airport decided to
undertake a financial deal with ridehail
company Uber, thus allowing
Uber to take over the main taxi
rank at T2 (international) and T3
(Virgin).
The Melbourne Airport Taxi Holding
Area was designed and created to
hold around 1200 taxis in readiness
for the passengers arriving from
interstate and overseas.
Nowadays you will be lucky to find
120 taxis, not 1200, in the Primary
Taxi Holding Area. The average
wait time is 3-5 hours until the taxis
can move to the feeder rank and
then another 20 minutes before
they are called to T1 (Qantas) or T4.
Earlier this month chief of ground
transport at Melbourne Airport
confirmed that Uber paid for the
removal of the taxi rank.
Rod Barton MP recently
commented on this topic “Given
the government provides much
funding and support for Melbourne
Airport, this blatant commercial
arrangement should have been
stopped at the outset. It is not
in the public interest for public
transport access to be privately
sold to a multinational corporation
that has proven time and time
again it is not a fit and proper
entity.”
Furthermore this position
discriminates against not only
the taxi industry but all the other
rideshare entities. It is only Uber
that has the privilege of being at
the main taxi rank - not Ola, not Didi
Mr Barton has also asked the
Minister for Transport “What part
did the regulator (CPVV) play in
negotiating the removal of the
taxi rank at Melbourne Airport to
accommodate Uber?”
We have been advised that
disability groups were NOT
contracted or consulted with
regards to this relocation.
The relocation of the taxi ranks
disadvantages disabled passengers
who require a Wheelchair
Accessible Taxi as they are forced
to make their way the length of
the airport to reach a taxi at T1 or
navigate an obstacle course to
reach the T4 car park taxi rank. This
also applies to the elderly and those
without a smart phone who do not
have nor want to use the Uber app.
Just to confuse everyone a bit
more, the rank signage and
information on the Melbourne
Airport website regarding taxis and
Uber have not been updated.
Even though the rank supervisors
do advise where the taxi ranks
are located, there are some Uber
drivers telling arriving passengers
that taxis are no longer servicing
the airport and that they must
download the app.
This is so wrong in so many ways!
VICTORIA news
On a recent return to Melbourne after a short trip to Europe to care for a relative,
I was astounded to find that the taxi rank outside the arrivals hall at Tullamarine
[Melbourne Airport] has been replaced by two conveniently located Uber driver pick
up points. Apparently the taxis have been relegated to the far end of Terminal 1, and at
Terminal 4.
Not only has the directional signage not been updated, which is frustrating for arriving
travellers, the distance to walk to the taxis is lengthy particularly for elderly or disabled people
and it is poorly lit.
It is appalling that Uber has driven the taxis and the taxi drivers out of the market, forcing
the public to use its service. I also understand that Uber charges varying rates depending
on demand and time of day, that drivers are poorly remunerated and that the service is not
regulated.
This is in stark contrast to the fare-controlled, clean, hybrid-vehicle taxi service
encountered at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
VICTORIA news
As many of you are aware, the class action against
Uber has been moving on in the background. The
Uber Class Action is a big matter. It is taking on a
very large company and claiming that it engaged in
conspiracy by unlawful means, giving rise to many
hundreds of millions of dollars of loss for taxi and
hire car industry members. For obvious reasons,
Uber is strongly defending its actions and this
makes it a procedurally complex case.
Uber has so far produced over 80,000 documents as
part of discovery. Over 12,000 of these documents
are subject to a claim of legal privilege, and Uber
says it should not have to disclose them. It has
taken considerable time for the legal team at
Maurice Blackburn to review all these documents,
and challenge claims of privilege when it thinks it
worthwhile to do so.
The next hearing is in February, where some
privilege claims will be tested.
COVID-19, of course, hasn’t made things any easier,
for people in the taxi and hire car industry or the
court system. Everyone working on this case has
tried their best to keep things moving, but it’s been
a challenge progressing such a complex case in a
global pandemic.
taxi or hire car driver in Victoria, New South Wales,
Queensland or Western Australia, join the over 8000
registrants and take part in this important process.
We have also been continuing to apply pressure
to Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV)
regarding a number of decisions they have made.
As everyone is aware, last year we requested
documents (FOI) from the CPVV concerning the
Uber Multi-Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) Trial that
occurred in Geelong.
The Privacy Commissioner has determined most
of these documents should be publicly released.
However, the CPVV are fighting this determination
in VCAT!
It is very interesting to see that the CPVV have hired
Mick Batskos (Google him), the gun for keeping
government secrets. Can you believe this is all to
hide the records of a six-person Uber trial that went
for a mere eight weeks? What could they possibly be
hiding?
My team and I are working hard to get results, and
we will keep you updated on our work as we move
forward into 2022!
This is a really important case about the right for
people to participate in a competitive market on
equal footing and be given a fair chance to succeed.
It is about challenging a large company that’s
throwing its weight around to get its way, with
everyday people paying the price.
It’s going to take a while to resolve, but if anything
that makes it all the more important.
I would like to encourage all those who haven’t yet
registered to do so. You can sign up to the Uber
Class Action on the Maurice Blackburn website, and
it is no financial burden or risk to you. If you are a
SURGING COST OF UBER RIDES
Taxis get a chance in
a fare fight
by Henrietta Cook
After growing frustrated by
lengthy wait times and expensive
rideshare fares, Jamin Robertson
started using taxis again.
On a recent Sunday night, Uber
quoted him $110 to travel from
Melbourne Airport to Port
Melbourne, a trip that would
normally cost between $50 and
$60.
Mr Roberston resorted to using a
taxi instead, which cost $75.
“I used to use both Uber and Didi
and went with what was more
cost-effective,” he said.
“Now I will be more inclined to
phone the operator and book a
cab.”
Victorians are flocking back to
taxis following the easing of
restrictions and amid concerns
about the rising cost of rideshare
services such as Uber, which
attract surge pricing during
periods of peak demand.
Many consumers, including Mr
Robertson, have noticed that
cancellations have become a lot
more prevalent on Uber and he
suspects drivers are abandoning
bookings to chase surge fares.
RMIT senior marketing lecturer Dr
Torgier Aleti said consumers were
growing tired of surge pricing and
taxis were regaining many of the
customers they had previously lost
to the popular rideshare app.
“Uber prices change at any
given time and you have to keep
checking it to see if you get a
better deal,” he said. “It can be
very tiresome and it doesn’t give
you a good user experience.”
Stuart Overell, the Chief Operating
Officer of 13cabs, said demand
for his taxis had almost doubled
during peak hours over the past
few months, especially in the CBD.
He said younger passengers who
were heading out to events were
behind the spike in bookings. He
said many of these customers
were previously rideshare users.
“There’s the convenience of
walking out and grabbing a cab,”
he said.
The spike in demand for private
transport services has coincided
with a shortage in drivers caused
by workers returning to their
overseas homes during the
pandemic and international
student numbers dwindling.
Uber has said the number of
drivers using its app in Australia
has not changed during the
pandemic.
Mr Overell said 13cabs is trying to
recruit an additional 4000 drivers
to meet demand across Australia.
A spokeswoman for Uber said the
company was also experiencing a
“huge spike” in demand but would
not share any data on this, saying
it was “commercially sensitive”.
Unlike taxis, when there
is high demand for Ubers
in certain areas and not
enough cars on the road,
fares are increased for
consumers through surge
pricing.
“We’re conscious of the impact
this increased demand has on
the rider experience, and we’re
doing more to make sure the
platform meets rider expectations,
including actively sharing with
driver-partners the peak times for
demand and thus earnings in their
cities,” the spokeswoman said.
While the spokeswoman said
there had been no pricing changes
during the pandemic, The Age has
come across many incidents were
consumers have been charged or
quoted exorbitant fares.
One customer was quoted $242
for a trip from Melbourne’s CBD to
the south-eastern suburbs
In one recent case, a Melbourne
woman was going to be charged
$242 to travel from Collins Street
to Carrum Downs on a Sunday
afternoon.
Victorian Taxi Association
President, Stephen Armstrong said
while airport trips were still down
due to people holidaying locally,
drivers were rejoicing the return
of customers. He said many were
former rideshare users who had
complained about increased costs.
“Our workload is coming back,”
said Mr Armstrong, who is also the
Chair of Ballarat Taxis.
Sam Hipsz has been driving a taxi
for 13cab for more than three
years and mainly operates across
Melbourne’s CBD and the southeastern
suburbs.
“Since restrictions were lifted
more people are out and about,
either going to work or a party,
which is great to see,” he said.
DRIVERLESS CARS
bad for environment if they
LEAD TO MORE AUTO USE
For years, self-driving car
technology has remained
tantalizingly just beyond the
horizon. Bold predictions
notwithstanding, fully automated
vehicles still haven’t appeared in
showrooms. But the technology
appears poised for a leap forward
in 2022.
Companies including Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Honda
are bringing so-called Level 3 AVs [Automated Vehicles] to
market that will let drivers take their hands off the wheel
under specific conditions, and virtually every major auto
manufacturer is testing self-driving systems.
Automated vehicles hold tremendous promise. Cars
that handle most or all driving tasks could be safer than
human drivers, operate more efficiently and open up new
opportunities for seniors, people with disabilities and
others who can’t drive themselves. But while attention
has understandably focused on safety, the potential
environmental impacts of automated vehicles have largely
taken a back seat.
12 February 2022

We study automated vehicle
technologies and how consumers
are likely to use them. In two recent
studies, our research teams found
two creative ways to assess the reallife
impacts that automated vehicles
could have on the environment.
By analyzing drivers’ use of partially
automated vehicles and simulating
the expected impact of future
driverless vehicles, we found that
both automated vehicle types will
encourage a lot more driving. This
will increase transportation-related
pollution and traffic congestion
unless regulators take steps to make
car travel less appealing.
MORE MILES, MORE CARBON
EMISSIONS
Research has previously suggested
that automated vehicles could
cause people to drive more than
they currently do, leading to more
congestion, energy consumption
and pollution. Riding in a car as a
passenger is much less stressful
than driving, so people might be
willing to sit through longer trips
and battle more traffic if they can
relax and do other things during the
journey. The promise of a relaxed,
comfortable commute to work
could even make some people move
farther away from their workplaces
and accelerate suburban sprawl
trends.
People would also have the ability to
send their cars on “zero-occupancy”
trips or errands without passengers.
For example, if you don’t want to
pay for parking downtown, at some
point, you may be able to send
your car back home while you’re at
work and summon it when needed.
Convenient, but also twice the
driving.
THE REAL-WORLD
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS
OF AUTOMATED CARS
While we and other researchers
have predicted these outcomes
through modeling, no one has
been able to verify them because
fully automated vehicles aren’t
commercially available yet. So we
found two innovative ways to use
currently available technologies
to study the real-world impacts of
automated vehicles.
WHEN PEOPLE DRIVE
PARTIALLY AUTOMATED
VEHICLES, THEY TRAVEL
FARTHER.
In a study published in mid-2021,
we surveyed 940 people who
drive partially automated vehicles.
Systems like Tesla’s Autopilot can
assist with driving tasks and reduce
the burden of driving, although to a
lesser degree than fully automated
vehicles will.
We found that drivers who used
Autopilot drove an average of nearly
5,000 more miles per year than
those who didn’t. In interviews with
36 drivers of partially automated
vehicles, they generally said they
were more willing to sit in traffic and
took more long-distance trips, all
because of the increased comfort
and reduced stress provided by
semi-automated systems.
WHEN PEOPLE CAN USE A
CAR WITHOUT HAVING TO
OPERATE IT, THEY INCREASE
THEIR CAR TRAVEL.
In a separate study conducted in late
2019 and early 2020, we simulated
the function of a fully automated
vehicle by providing 43 households
Rest In Peace
in Sacramento, California, with a
chauffeur service to take over the
family driving duties and tracking
how they used it.
These households increased their
vehicle miles travelled by 60% over
their pre-chauffeur travel and
dramatically reduced their use of
transit, bicycling and walking.
In addition, more than half of
the increase in vehicle travel
involved sending chauffeurs on
zero-occupancy trips without a
household member in the car.
LIMITING POLLUTION FROM
AUTOMATED CAR USE
These findings show that automated
vehicles will encourage a lot more
driving in the future and that
partially automated vehicles are
doing so now. But, is there any way
to reap its benefits without making
climate change, air quality, and
congestion worse?
Requiring future automated vehicles
to use zero-emission technology, as
California is doing, can be a big help.
But until countries develop a 100%
carbon-free electricity system, even
electric cars will produce some
upstream emissions from power
generation. And all car travel causes
other harmful impacts, such as
water and air pollution from brake
and tire wear, collisions with wildlife
and traffic congestion.
DRIVERLESS CARS
bad for environment if they
LEAD TO MORE AUTO USE
TO PREVENT AN EXPLOSION
IN DRIVING AND ASSOCIATED
HARMS, REGULATORS AND
COMMUNITIES NEED TO
SEND SIGNALS THAT DRIVING
ISN’T FREE.
They could do this by putting a price
on car travel – particularly on zerooccupancy
trips.
In place of fuel taxes, state and
federal governments could adopt
user fees or charges for the number
of vehicle miles that drivers travel.
Correctly pricing the cost of private
vehicle travel could encourage
travellers to consider cheaper and
more efficient modes, such as public
transit, walking and bicycling.
These fees could be adjusted based
on location – for example, charging
more to drive into dense city centres
– or other factors such as time of
day, traffic congestion levels, vehicle
occupancy and vehicle type. Modern
communication technologies can
enable such policies by tracking
where and when cars are on the
roads.
Another option would be to
promote shared fleets of automated
vehicles rather than privately
owned ones. We envision these as
commercial companies, similar to
Uber, Lyft and other ride-sharing
providers. Having a car available
when needed could make it possible
to forgo car ownership and could
serve travel demand much more
efficiently by essentially acting as
on-demand transit. These networks
could also help riders reach fixedroute
public transportation services
that operate on main transportation
corridors.
All of these policies will be most
effective if they are adopted now,
before automated vehicles are
widespread. A transportation future
that is automated, electric and
shared could be environmentally
sustainable – but in our view, it’s
unlikely to evolve that way on its
own.
Singapore uses electronic road pricing to reduce congestion and regulate traffic flow in the city. The cost to enter the restricted zone varies with
location and timing. Calvin Chan Wai Meng via Getty Images
Uber buys
Car Next Door
On 20 January 2022, Uber
announced that it had acquired Car
Next Door, an Australian company
first launched in Sydney in 2012 that
offers convenient access to cars for
renters while providing revenue to
car owners. The peer-to-peer carsharing
platform makes it easy to
turn any car into a shared car.
By adding Car Next Door to its
suite of products, Uber hopes to
offer Australians with an affordable
and convenient alternative to
private car ownership, as it would
give riders a reliable option for
trips that are less suited to ridesharing,
such as running errands at
the store or a day trip away.
Apparently, Uber and Car Next
Door share a the same vision to
“make transport not just safe,
convenient and affordable — but
also sustainable”.
Car Next Door co-founder and CEO
Will Davies says that he has seen
attitudes towards car ownership
starting to shift over the past ten
years in the market.
“We know that many of our
members are already combining
car-share and ride-share with
shared bikes and scooters, walking
and public transport for a mobility
mix that suits their lifestyle,” he
said.
“We’re hearing from more and
more people that they no longer
feel the need to own a car because
getting transport on demand saves
them money and hassle.”
“In the ten years since we and
Uber launched in Australia,
attitudes to car ownership have
really started to shift.”
NSW TAXI INDUSTRY
Pledge
Support
FOR ALL NSW TAXI
LICENCE OWNERS
Fair & Proper
Compensation
The NSW Taxi Council has requested
all the Taxi Licence Owners in NSW to
reach out to their Local Member of
Parliament in NSW to sign the NSW
Taxi Industry Pledge in support of fair
and proper compensation for all Taxi
Licence Owners in NSW.
Taxi Licence Owners in NSW have lost
the value of their NSW Taxi Licences
since the NSW Government changed
the rules governing the Taxi Industry in
2016. Transport for NSW is preparing
a Bill on further reforms in the Point
to Point Transport Industry to be
introduced into the NSW Parliament
in early 2022. The Bill proposes to
cancel all existing Taxi Licences with
inadequate compensation, issue
unlimited annual licences for a small
fee, abolish operating areas, and
deregulate fares.
CEO of the NSW Taxi Council, Martin
Rogers, said, “The NSW Government
destroyed the savings of Taxi licence
owners in how they legalised rideshare
in 2015 and subsequent reforms in 2016
and fair and proper compensation.
It is a vital first step for the NSW
Government to get right. The NSW
Taxi Council has proposed a workable,
no-net cost to the NSW Government
solution.”
Mr Rogers further added, “We agree
with the Government when they
say they want to make it as easy
and smooth as possible for Taxi
businesses to transition under the
new reforms and that it should be
easy to exit the industry if Taxi Licence
Owners and Service Providers do
not wish to continue to provide Taxi
services. However, the proposed
NSW Government deregulation and
reform proposals are short-sighted
and only hurt the Taxi Licence Owners,
small business owners, communities
and customers in NSW. It is risking
service delivery to vital sectors of the
community. We support reforms, if
20 February 2022

they are the right reforms. The
reforms need to ensure fair and
proper compensation for Taxi
licence owners and a regulated
system that supports a Taxi
industry that encourages future
business investment and provides a
viable, reliable and affordable travel
option for passengers across all of
NSW.”
Gareth Ward – MP for Kiama is the
first NSW Member of Parliament
to sign the NSW Taxi Industry
Pledge.
The NSW Taxi Council is
coordinating with Taxi Licence
Owners across NSW to make an
appointment with their Local
Member of Parliament and
request their Local MP adds
their name, electorate, signature
and date to the NSW Taxi
Industry Pledge, showing their
support towards fair and proper
compensation for loss in value of
Taxi Licences in NSW and the need
for a viable Taxi industry across all
of NSW to continue.
NSW TAXI INDUSTRY WELCOMES
Extension of Regional
Seniors Travel Card
The NSW Taxi Council and
the Country Taxi Operators
Association welcomes the
announcement from the NSW
Nationals - Deputy Premier
and Minister for Regional
NSW - Paul Toole and Nationals
Minister for Regional Transport
and Roads - Sam Farraway, to
extend the Regional Seniors
Travel Card program until
the end 2023 as well as the
expansion of the eligibility to
include seniors who are carers
and those with disabilities.
The Regional Seniors Travel Card
was initially promised for two
years at the 2019 election by the
NSW Nationals and has been a
huge success, with 691,000 cards
issued since the launch.
Due to this huge success, the
program has been expanded for
two more years until the end of
2023.
The Regional Seniors Travel Card
provides eligible seniors living in
Regional, Rural and Remote areas
of NSW with a $250 prepaid card
to help ease the cost of travel and
use the card at certain retailers
and to pay for Taxis, fuel and prebooked
NSW Trainlink Regional
trains.
The eligibility has now been
expanded to also include seniors
Appointing
a Solicitor
as
Executor
of your
Will
An executor is a person who will carry
out the instructions in your Will once
you have passed away.
In general, you can appoint any person
as executor of your Will, this includes
solicitors. It is not uncommon for a
solicitor to be appointed executor
of a Will. The advantage of having a
solicitor as executor is their experience
handling Wills, as opposed to someone
who has never undertaken the role of
an executor.
It is quite likely that whomever you
appoint as the executor will have
to seek advice from a solicitor while
acting as executor anyway.
24 February 2022

Why should I appoint
my solicitor as executor
of my Will?
If you have a complicated estate
and family situation, it may be
worth considering appointing a
solicitor as executor of your Will.
Solicitors bring professionalism
and experience to the role of
executor. As a result, it is easier
for a solicitor to remain impartial
and manage disputes, should any
disagreements arise as to the
contents of the Will.
An experienced solicitor can also
ensure your Will is executed in
a timely manner, communicate
the progress of execution of the
Will to beneficiaries and ensure
account keeping is properly
maintained.
What is required from a
solicitor who is to become
executor of my Will?
If you decide to appoint a solicitor
as executor of your Will, they must
notify you in writing to confirm
they will be acting as executor of
your Will and should include the
following in a confirmation letter;
• Any entitlements they may
be able to claim from carrying
out instructions in your Will;
• Costs and charges for
legal fees or executor’s
commission;
• Any people who may not
make a claim against the
executor’s commission.
Can a solicitor charge a
fee for executing my Will?
Yes, they can! There are a few
ways in which a solicitor can be
paid for executing a Will, for
example, a clause in the Will
provides for a legacy to be paid
to the executor/s or a rate of
commission or right to charge
for professional rates for nonprofessional
work.
Solicitors acting as executors must
ensure they comply with Legal
Profession Uniform Rules when
remunerating themselves for
executing the Will.
The subject of executors’
remuneration has the potential
to become complex: hence we
recommend you speak to one of
our specialist lawyers to ensure
you have everything covered.
Conclusion
An experienced solicitor is able
to bring professionalism and
impartiality to the role of executor.
If a solicitor has accepted to
take on the role of executor of
your Will, they must notify you
in writing to confirm they will be
acting as executor. They can also
explain their obligations to you
as executor of your Will and the
different ways in which they can
be remunerated for carrying out
your final wishes.
This area of law is extensive
and can be overwhelming to
understand. We recommend you
speak with one of our specialist
lawyers, who can ensure you
have everything in order when it
comes to appointing a solicitor
as executor of your Will, as they
will, after all, be fulfilling your final
wishes.
Meet The 1,000km Electric Car:
Mercedes EQXX
The stunning concept Mercedes EQXX has a range of 1,000kms achieved by way of super-efficiency rather
than a massive battery (the pack is just 100kWh). The pack has the same amount of power to be found
in the current EQS, but it's half the size and weighs 30% less! The battery pack could fit inside a compact
vehicle. Astonishing.
This testbed vehicle achieves less than 10kWh per 100kms. It has a drag co-efficiency of 0.18 with a sharp
ended rear. It has built-in solar panels on the roof - a feature we feel will be standard for all-electric cars in
the future.
There's something reminiscent of the Aston Martin DB6 with this amazing car. We don't expect Mercedes
as an independent brand to survive the current disruption but hopefully, the technology will.
WOMEN-ONLY RIDESHARE
Shebah
set to survive
FOLLOWING CREDITOR DEAL
by Simon Thomsen
The administrators of womenonly
rideshare business Shebah
say the startup has been saved
from collapse.
The Melbourne startup Shebah
was placed in voluntary
administration last October, a
victim of ongoing lockdowns
during the Covid pandemic.
Shebah founder Georgina
McEncroe tried to find new
investors to ride out the
pandemic, especially after
revenues plummeted 70% due
during 2021’s Covid lockdowns
in NSW and Victoria, but failed,
placing the business in the hands
of administrators Sam Kaso and
Rachel Burdett.
They kept the business operating
and today Kaso said creditors
had accepted a plan to keep
the company’s drivers on the
road under new ownership.
No buyer was identified by the
administrators.
The business will be restructured
under a Deed of Company
Arrangement, which Kaso said
will facilitate the injection of
substantial new capital with
an immediate focus on the
recruitment of more drivers.
“This is great news for the
business and the community,” he
said, adding that the timing of the
transfer of ownership could not
be better as it coincided with the
return of schools
“A large proportion of Shebah’s
business was school drop-offs
and pick-ups for working families
and youth support services.
The lockdowns last year were a
major cause of the company’s
problems,” he said.
The business launched in 2017,
and until entering voluntary
administration last year, held the
record for the country’s biggest
crowd-sourced funding raise, with
2126 small investors backing a $3
million campaign in March 2019.
Shebah raised another $700,000
round through crowdfunding
– less than half the maximum
sought – in late 2019.
Prior to the pandemic lockdowns,
Shebah users booked up to
10,000 trips a month nationally.
It is the only rideshare business
with licence to transport
unaccompanied children. The
app allows women to order in
advance the driver of their choice
and 80% of Shebah drivers have
child car seats.
The business had a pool of 1000
drivers before lockdowns. The
typical driver is aged 49, single,
with older children.
Bolt
increases
London
prices
in wake
of driver
shortages
matching
rival Uber
by Michael Murphy | www.taxi-point.co.uk
LONDON - Ride-hailing firm Bolt
has raised its prices in the capital,
just two months after its rival Uber
raised its own fares due to tighter
regulations and a shortage of
drivers.
Following a number of High Court
judgments, which ruled that Uber
drivers were employees rather
than independent contractors,
and that the company’s booking
model was unlawful, accompanied
by major driver shortages in the
private hire industry, the Silicon
Valley giants increased fares in
London.
Bolt have now followed suit
upping their prices by 10%.
Prices for Bolt’s standard private
hire car service now closely match
Uber’s at £1.42 (AU$2.70), [Uber’s
being £1.41] per mile. 13p (AU$.24)
per minute is also added to each
fare price which starts at £2.75
(AU$5.23), with a minimum fare
requirement of £5.50 (AU$10.46),
all of which match Uber’s to the
penny (cent).
The Estonian born firm, who have
ambitions of being the number
one ‘Super App’ announced its
largest ever funding round this
week to further scale its existing
products and accelerate the
transition from owned cars to
shared mobility in cities.
The £523 million (AU$995 million)
investment round was led by
Sequoia Capital and Fidelity
Management and Research
Company LLC with participation
from others, and takes Bolt’s
valuation to £6.1 billion (AU$11.6
billion).
you should park close to the
technique of opening a car
charge point and avoid creating a
door which requires a driver
trip hazard for pedestrians from
or passenger to use the hand
furthest away to open it.
The new section under rule 239
will now read: ‘Where you are
able to do so, you should open
the door using your hand on the
opposite side to the door you are
opening; for example, use your
left hand to open a door on your
right-hand side.
‘This will make you turn your
head to look over your shoulder.
You are then more likely to avoid
causing injury to cyclists or motor
cyclists passing you on the road,
or to people on the pavement.’
People who cause injury to others
with a car door could face a
punishment in the way of a fine of
up to £1,000.
