HIDDEN MYSTERIES: A GUIDE FOR BEGINNERS IN TAROT By: Amanda Messina BRIEF HISTORY Tarot Cards were initially popularized in the late fourteenth century as playing cards. They regained notoriety in the mid-1400s when Royal families would pay to personalize decks as a display of wealth. It wasn't until the late sixteenth century that Tarot cards were used for divination, granted it was much simpler because it was still developing as a practice. CONNECTING WITH YOUR DECK When choosing a deck, its important you get one that calls to you and grabs your attention most. Every object and living being radiates energy; with that being said, it's important that your deck is familiar with your energy. There are various ways to intertwine your energies, including sleeping with it under your pillow, meditating with it, and carrying it around with you. \I would also recommend cleansing your deck with incense like Frankincense or crystals like selenite. After about a week of becoming comfortable with each other's presences, an interview spread can be done. By doing so, you can learn about your deck's personality, motives, and methods. using your deck Tarot cards are typically used for advice and to gain access to knowledge you wouldn't normally have. Most decks differ and come with a guidebook; reading out of the bool helps, but your interpretations are what matter. The guidebooks provide a variety of spreads that you can practice using.

Overall, Tarot is a fun hobby, you can do readings with your friends and show your family. I enjoy the surprises I get when a card relates exactly to what I'm experiencing, it never gets old.
