What’s Going On?
A new abortion bill was just recently passed by the Florida
house. It will now head to the Florida Senate.
What Does this Mean?
The bill is looking to ban abortions past the 15-week
mark, with no exceptions for rape, incest, or human
trafficking. The bill states that the only exceptions to an
abortion past the 15-week period is if the mother’s life is in
danger, or if the fetus has fatal abnormalities, and even
then, these conditions must be confirmed by two different
doctors.
Despite protest from house democrats and proposals
which amended the bill to provide exceptions for rape,
incest or human trafficking, the debate over the bill lasted
a mere 6 hours and ended in a near party line vote of 78-
39.
So, what Now?
The bill is now going to the senate where it will then wait
approval from the governor if passed. Governor DeSantis
has previously pledged support for the bill and has
mentioned that he sees no problem with a Pro-Life
centered government.
The fate of Roe V Wade now hangs upon a single string,
dangling above a dark abyss that sees no light regarding
the fate of Women’s rights.
As many of us turn 18, approach 18, or know others that
are 18, it is time to vote. We have the ability to vote on our
elected representatives; we need to elect those who will
give women the right to choose!
