We've lovingly restored this
stunning Grade II listed building in
the historic Royal William Yard
in Plymouth.
Taking the time, care and attention to use traditional
craftsmen and building methods to bring the house
back to its former glory, our collection of 14 stylish,
simply-appointed bedrooms are filled with period
architectural charm.
The ideal place to relax after after a busy day out
and about in Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City.
Our rooms are located just across the green from
our stunning bistrot and bar, where you can enjoy
breakfast, lunch and dinner during your stay.
There’s a beautiful external terrace which is heated
during cooler months and is a great place to relax
and dine alfresco on warmer days.

About Rooms
When Bistrot Pierre took over
Residence One, our plan was to return
the residence to its former glory, whilst
adding luxurious amenities that ensured
your stay would be as comfortable
and relaxing as possible.
Over its life, parts of the building had fallen into disrepair
and so the fabric of the building, the exterior, rooms and
sash windows were carefully restored and refurbished. The
team had to painstakingly remove lots of unsympathetic
modernisation that had been added over the course of the
20th century. All the stone flags were lifted, cleaned and
then re-pointed using lime mortar and traditional lime plaster
was used on the walls, allowing the building to ‘breathe’.
We managed to salvage and re-use over 20 of the original
Georgian doors in the Residence. If you are staying in the
suite, you may notice that one of the radiators dates
back to the 1800’s.
Every one of our 14 Rooms is different and each
has its own individual charm.

terrace, with a relaxed, informal and friendly vibe.
The restaurant design is based on original Parisian bistrots and
our designers scour France for original artworks and furniture.
You’ll find plenty of classic Bistrot, gluten-free and vegetarian
dishes, as well as a child-friendly menu, to help make your

Our food
Our dishes are freshly prepared by our
chefs daily, using carefully sourced artisan
ingredients from France and fresh products
from local producers and suppliers.
We’ve crafted dishes with respect for their French
roots – always special, but never fussy. Classic favourites
sit alongside modern French cuisine and dishes inspired
from cooking across the world, all with the spirit of
France at their heart.
For lunch or dinner why not try home-made chicken
liver parfait or crispy calamari. Enjoy main courses
such as slow-cooked bœuf bourguignon, steak-frites
or lighter fish dishes and salads.
Finish your meal the French way, with carefully
chosen, imported French cheeses or homemade
crème brûlée.

Our bar provides you with the perfect pit-stop,
the ideal way to relax in beautiful surroundings
and unwind with a drink of your choice. On warmer
days you can relax on our outside terrace.
We have a wide selection of drinks, many from small

About Royal William Yard & things to do
The Royal William Yard is an award-winning
Grade I listed ex-naval victualling yard, which has
been regenerated in recent years to become the best
place to work, rest and play in the South West.
Constructed between 1825 and 1831 by Sir John Rennie,
the Royal William Yard is steeped in history and considered
to be one of the most important groups of historic military
buildings in Britain.
The building that houses our Rooms was once the
accommodation for the Royal Navy’s officer classes. When
originally built in 1830 the Residences cost £4,500, a staggering
amount at that time. The residences boasted a number of
outbuildings which originally included stables, a wash-house
and carriage house.
Superbly located between the River Tamar and Plymouth Sound,
Royal William Yard provides breath-takingviews and a great
place to base yourself when visiting Plymouth, or as a gateway
to Devon and Cornwall. It boasts an array of eating and drinking
experiences as well as a range of interesting and eclectic shops.
The centre of Plymouth can be easily reached on foot, by car,
bike or bus (Plymouth Citybus 34/34A). Alternatively you can hop
on and off the local ferry service from Royal William Yard Marina
which can take you between Royal William Yard, the historic
Barbican and even over to Cornwall to Visit Mount Edgcumbe.
