BENEFITS AND FEATURES:
Calculation of the max., min. and average width values
Correction of misalignment
Calculation of wedge shape and saber shape
Calculation of a virtual space for the optimal loading of the furnace
Useable after casting process or in front of the furnace before milling
Calculation of the maximum, minimum and average width
Measurement of the slab contour
Automatic correction of misaligned slabs
Calculation of wedge and saber shape
Usable after seperation from casting line or even before
This measuring system LaseSWM – Slab Width Measurement consists
of two laser measurement devices which are mounted on both sides
of the roller table.
The slab width and profile measuring system named LaseSPM
consists of two 2D triangulation laser scanners which are mounted on
both sides of the roller table.
The measurement systems measure on the side of the slabs. By
knowing the distance of both systems to each other and the measured
data, the slab width can be calculated exactly. The evaluation of the
slab width takes place in a PC. It will be also noted that the slabs can
be misaligned whilst being measured and furthermore could have
different kinds of shapes.
Triangulation lasers out of the LASE 1000T – Green Line Series will
be utilized to measure the slabs.
This measuring system gauges the long sides of the slabs. By
knowing the distance of both systems to each other and of the
current measuring operation, the slab width and profile can be
calculated - the whole evaluation takes place on a industrial PC.
The slabs even can move diagonally through the measurement
system, because the software compensates misalignments
automatically. In addition the shape (wedge and saber shape) of
slabs can also be determined. In this application the triangulation
scanners of our LASE 2000T-Series are used which can also measure
hot slabs highly accurate to the millimetre.
Robust and reliable measuring technology
By using the measurement system LaseSPF – Slab Positioning
Furnace slabs can precisely be positioned before being pushed into
the furnace.
The laser measurement system scans in a level of 140 mm above
the roller table. When the slabs move or lie in the scan field, their
position is measured from its front and long side. The raw data
from the laser scanner (distances and angle) are sent to the LASE
measurement PC.
A continuous monitoring of slabs on a cold roller table is possible with
the LaseSTR – Slab Tracking Roller-table measurement system.
The system tracks the slabs on the roller table until they are pushed
into the furnace. The measurement system, based on laser scanners
(in protective housings), is installed alongside the roller table and
can be applied to any length. The measured data will be sent from
the laser scanners via an Ethernet Interface to the measurement PC
specific software.
The IPC evaluates the measurements and the compressed
information for the slab head and slab feed-position are created.
This information enables the superior roller control system to place
the slabs very accurately. It is possible to determine the position of a
long slab or two short slabs in front of the furnace.
The application software does the following operations:
• Measuring data reading of scanners (distance & angle)
• Segmentation
• Listing of slab ID numbers and head/base coordinates
• Management and notification of malfunctions
• Communication with material scheduling via TCP/IP
• Generation of target layout for the roller table
Optionally: calculation of wedge shape and saber shape
For cooling, the laser distance meters are mounted in air flushing and
water cooled housings. The fresh air is sucked by a ventilator and lead
to the housings over an air pipe.
The application LaseSPY – Slab Positioning Yard for an automatic
slab-yard is used for the slab transport in pick and drop operations
without any crane drivers.
The LaseSDM – Slab Dimension Measurement system measures hot
slabs (up to 1200°C) on two-lanes in their thickness and on a singlelane
in their width while moving on a roller table.
By the use of two laser scanners, which are mounted on the trolley,
the slabs or billets are measured in their position. The pick and
drop position of the slabs or billets is determined (cooperating with
stockyard software) and also the slab widths and slab numbers are
recorded. A safe acquisition of single/multiple slabs is possible, too.
The data from the laser scanners are processed by a LASE Control
unit (LCU) as well as by Ethernet to the supervisory stockyard
management system.
Due to the LaseSPY system application an efficient stockyard
operation is guaranteed by using this measurement application.
The amortisation for this investment is rather short due to reduced
labour costs (no crane drivers necessary).
The length of the slabs is determined via incremental encoders.
Because of the fact that blocks are milled with different dimensions,
the width measurement system is adjustable in its height and the
thickness measurement is adjustable in its width.
The laser distance-meter devices are installed inside a measuring
frame which allows sensor adjustments to different slab widths and
thicknesses. By means of these triangulation sensors the slab width
and thickness can be determined very exactly. Two incremental
encoders are mounted on the two rollers in front of the measuring
frame in order to determine the length of the slabs as well. Thus
all dimension values are measured and forwarded to the application
software, where it is visualized.
The application LaseCPY – Coil Profiling Yard is used to measure the
positions of coils in crane, trolley and height direction.
The measurement system consists of at least one laser scanner
depending on the size/width of the yard. The laser scanner(s) will be
installed on the trolley or along the crane main girder and additionally
the crane position is measured by a laser distance meter.
The measurement data will be collected in a LASE Control Unit (LCU)
with the CEWS Application Framework and a special core software
for this application. When the crane moves to the start position the
laser scanner data and the crane position will be stored by the LASE
measurement system Afterwards the results (positions of all coils in
X, Y and Z-direction, dimensions) are sent to the crane PLC and the
position data is forwarded to the warehouse management system.
The LaseCPT – Coil Positioning Trailer measurement system consists of
up to three 3D laser scanners and a measurement IPC for the evaluation
of the laser data.
The components are installed above the drop zones. When a new trailer
is positioned in the storage area, the laser measurement system receives
an order from the warehouse management system to measure the trailer.
With this data a three-dimensional image of the scenery on the trailer
is produced and calculates the coil positions. The measurement data is
provided via a Profibus interface which shows the coil and hollow positions
to the supervisory crane SPS and the warehouse management system.
Thus a fully automatic loading and set down of the coils is possible, too.
The application LaseCPW - Coil Positioning Wagons can be used for
the fully automatic loading and unloading of coil wagons.
The measurement system LaseBPF – Billet Positioning Furnace is
used for a contactless monitoring of billets inside the furnace.
This measurement system consists of one laser scanner which
measures the wagon profiles in theirY and Z-axis, a laser distance
meter for crane position determination (X-axis) and a measuring PC
for the evaluation of the measuring data.
Within this system a laser distance meter measures through the
buffer on the run-in of the roller table onto the billet front surface.
The real time positioning in the furnace is ensured by the high
measurement rate of the laser scanners.
The laser scanner is mounted on the crane at a distance of 4 m
from the centre of the railway track. A 3D profile of the wagons
is generated from the raw data of both laser systems. The coil
positions are detected by measuring the wagon-row before
unloading. The crane drives over the entire incoming train with a
constant speed of 0.5 m/s. At the end of the measuring travel-cycle
the determination of the coil positions starts, whereby the data is
extracted by advanced filters. By means of the coil position data the
warehouse management system generates the driving schedule for
the automatic crane.
By using a second laser distance meter behind the supply table it is
also possible to measure at the foot of the incoming billet. In this
way the furnace can also be filled in two rows with short billets. The
laser distance meter is protected by an appropriate cooling housing
against heat damages from the furnace.
PRODUCT INFORMATION
Laser measurement devices and components
1D 2D 3D
Overview
LASE 1000D, 1000T, 2000D and 3000D Series
The high performance laser scanners by LASE are particularly designed for industrial applications with the background to
create robust, modular and economic laser measurement systems. Our sensors out of the LASE 1000T Series are typically
used for contactless distance, thickness or width measurements and especially built for the operation in harsh industrial
environments. They are optical measuring instruments which work according to the triangulation principle. This technique
ensures highest accuracies within μm of range.
The laser scanners from the LASE 2000D Series are contactless two-dimensional distance measuring systems built for
industrial environments and outdoor purposes. 2D profiles of the surrounding are scanned by a pulsed IR laser beam which
is transmitted via a rotating mirror head. The 2D contour data of the scanned surroundings, which are figured in constant
raw data, combine distance and angle values as delivered output by the scanner interface. The sensors transmit extremely
short multiple light pulses, measure the running time to the object and back and then computes the distance.
Finally the LASE 3000D Series consists of a mechanical swivel platform with an assembled 2-dimensional laser scanner for
measuring tasks. The platform has a swivel table, which can be turned by a servo motor for the operation in swivel mode.
A high resolution encoder is integrated within the servo motor and measures the exact turning angle of the swivel table
simultaneously. By the assignment of 2D laser scan data with the encoder values (turning angle), the contactless reception
of 3-dimensional measuring data can be handled.
