Established in 1966, Centennial College is Ontario’s first College of Applied Arts and

Technology. Centennial is recognized as one of the most culturally diverse post-secondary

institutions in Canada, with a student and employee body representing almost 100

ethno-cultural groups and speaking over 80 languages.

Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, including traditional

learners, international learners, mature learners seeking to upgrade or switch

DEFINITIONS *

ACADEMIC PATHWAY

noun | path-way | \’path-,wa, ‘päth-\

A route between two programs or institutions allowing students to complete multiple

credentials by recognizing and transferring learning that’s already taken place. Credits

and courses from one institution or program are honoured at another institution to

minimize the time it takes to advance a student’s education.

ADVANCED STANDING

The recognition of credits earned at the home institution, applied towards a credential

at the host institution. Students enter a second or higher semester/term or year of the

host program.

ARTICULATION AGREEMENT

A formal, legally-binding agreement between two or more institutions, allowing students

to transfer between the institutions. In some cases, an articulation will include

transferable courses.

BLOCK TRANSFER

The transfer of a group of credits or courses from the home institution based on its

equivalency with the host program’s credits or courses. This transfer often results in

students being granted Advanced Standing in their host program.

BRIDGING COURSES OR PROGRAM

Courses or programs students can take to fill in gaps of their learning from their

previous program in order to complete their new one.

DEGREE COMPLETION

An undergraduate academic program, allowing students who have previously

completed a college diploma or advanced diploma to complete a degree in shorter time

without repeating content.

GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA)

A method used to measure academic achievement based on the average of the grade

point values earned for credit courses. This average can be calculated per semester,

year or the entire program. Each institution may have different scales to measure a

student’s academic achievement. Contact the institution for more information.

PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT AND RECOGNITION (PLAR)

A process which provides students the opportunity to gain credit for formal or

informal learning. Learners follow a process that allows them to identify, describe and

demonstrate past learning that was obtained through a collection of study, life and

work experiences.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

A minimum number or percentage of credits students need to complete at the host

institution to fulfill program requirements.

TRANSFER CREDIT

The awarding of credit for previously completed course(s) obtained at a recognized

post-secondary institution.

The widespread use of more complex and constantly evolving computer technology is a key factor driving the current

demand for information technology professionals. To meet Ontario’s critical need in this occupation, Centennial offers the

province’s only Computer and Communication Networks bachelor degree. Highly qualified professors, who hold industrial

certifications and advanced academic credentials, deliver a unique blend of technology and business topics. A hands-on

approach will ensure an innovative balance between the practical and theoretical backgrounds employers are seeking.

You will also be able to specialize in the design of wireless and security networking.

Honours Bachelor of Public Relations Management 0617

In the coming years, employment growth in the sector that includes public relations is expected to be higher than the

average for all occupations — representing more than 40 per cent of the jobs that will become available from 2017 to

2026. This first-of-its-kind offering in Canada combines public relations and business studies to prepare you for various

careers. Through core business courses, the program will balance theory, principles and public relations applications with

a solid business foundation. Courses will cover writing, social and digital media, research and communications planning,

and strategic and corporate communications. You will apply your knowledge to real-world projects. The program also

includes a 14-week co-op.

The demand for health care is expected to grow as the number of seniors in Ontario increases. This program — a

partnership with Ryerson University and George Brown College — will equip you to work in numerous nursing roles and

environments. You will complete your first two years at Centennial and the final two years at Ryerson. The curriculum will

cover five themes, reflected throughout the program at varying levels:

• Primary healthcare/health promotion

• Reflective practice/critical thinking

• Meaningful relationships/caring communication

• Political/social justice

• Personal/professional development

Nursing labs with highly realistic computerized “patients” will be available for practice, and you will have the opportunity

to partake in a large-scale disaster exercise. Your will complete professionally-related courses in areas of anatomy and

physiology, nutrition, ethics, psychology and sociology. The BScN program also includes a series of required and elective

courses selected from other disciplines in order to enhance and support the broad knowledge base required of a

professional nurse.

Students in Paramedicine earn an Honours Bachelor of Science degree and an Ontario Diploma while learning from

leading academics and professionals. Unique in Canada, the program is grounded in the fundamentals of life science and

focuses on the critical thinking, research and laboratory experience needed to save lives. Students examine and are

immersed in the spectrum of emergency medical, trauma and psychological situations facing today’s healthcare

professionals. The program prepares students for the Ontario Ministry of Health Advanced Emergency Medical Care

Attendant (AEMCA) exam and positions graduates for advanced careers in the field of emergency medical services.

• Earn the U of T Honours Bachelor of Science degree and Centennial Paramedicine Diploma

• Graduates of the program are eligible to take the Ministry of Health Emergengy Care Medical Attendant exams required

to qualify as a paramedic

Centennial’s university partners, Cape Breton University, Nipissing University and Central

Michigan University (USA) deliver their undergraduate and master’s degrees onsite at

Centennial’s Progress Campus.

Nipissing University – Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) Degree

Centennial College has partnered with Nipissing University to offer

graduate from a three-year Business Administration advanced

diploma program at Centennial, the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of

Commerce (BComm) or Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from

Nipissing University in as little as one year. This innovative program

provides Centennial graduates with several key benefits:

• Classes and tutorials held at Centennial’s Progress Campus

• Credits awarded for your advanced diploma provide the

opportunity to earn a BComm (three-year) degree in one year,

or a BComm (four-year) degree in 16 months

• 4-year Degree offers Accounting concentrations in Accounting

which satisfies the requirement for a CPA and in Human

Resources which satisfies the requirement for a CHRP

• Full-time and part-time options available

• A blended online learning model offers a flexible schedule,

allowing students to work while studying

• Small class size

• As a Centennial student, you have the use of ancillary services

including Library (also e-resources), health services, career

services, counselling, athletics center, campus internet access,

it along with tutorial sessions led by course facilitators who are

“Nissiping University’s CPP program was a great way for me

to transition, as a College graduate, into their business

program and receive transfer credits for previous courses

taken in College allowing me to fast track my Undergraduate

studies. Choosing to take part in Nispissing’s distance

learning component has allowed me to pursue my education

remotely in Southern Ontario while still being able to work a

full-time job. I encourage others to take advantage of this

opportunity as well.”

Cape Breton University’s MBA in Community Economic Development (CED)

Centennial’s partnership with Cape Breton University gives students

the opportunity to earn their Master of Business Administration

(MBA) onsite at Centennial’s Progress Campus. Classes are

scheduled every other weekend, taking into consideration the

demands of today’s lives, allowing you to complete your degree in as

little as 26 months. This is an affordable program with tuition paid

course-by-course, which counts transfer credits, including courses

taken at Centennial. If you have previously completed a university

degree or have gained work experience in a managerial position, you

may be eligible for admission into this MBA.

This is the only MBA program in the Americas that aims to deliver

advanced business knowledge and skills in the context of the

community and the world. The MBA in CED offers a leading edge

curriculum delivered by experts and industry professionals that

includes all business subjects found in traditional MBA programs.

Program delivery emphasizes teachings in economic development,

leadership, data analytics, governance and management of change.

You can choose specializing options such as First Nations, Strategic

Leadership, Peace Building or International Business. Students

must complete the required 15 three-credit courses plus a major

research essay/case study. Students will be required to maintain a

3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale to remain in the

program.

Upon completion of this program, graduates are ready for leadership

roles in the public sector, in third sector organizations, and in

community-minded businesses.

Central Michigan University (USA) – Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Community

College (MAE-CC)

Consider joining a cohort of your peers taking the Master of Arts

degree in Education with a Community College concentration onsite

at Progress Campus. This advanced degree program prepares

professional educators with the tools needed to address and solve

complex issues. There are three areas of emphasis to choose from:

PATHWAY DETAILS: Students must have successfully completed their General Arts program with a minimum 70 per cent

GPA and at least 65 per cent in any of the courses required for the General Arts program. Trent’s BA program can be completed

in approximately 2 years.

standards can receive an alternate offer to the LIberal Arts program after which they may continue studies at UTSC, 3) Second

“I came from a high-risk community in Toronto and I wanted to

understand the injustices that pervaded there while engaging

in opportunities that would allow for meaningful contributions

back to my community. Centennial’s Community and Justice

Services program offered the ideal education to develop my

personal and professional skills. Every one of my professors

were role models for continuous learning and champions of

social justice. Building on my education at Centennial, I

enrolled in the bridge program to the Bachelor of Criminology

at Ontario Tech University and further build on what I had

learned. After completing two years of study, I decided to

continue my education and pursue a Masters of Arts in

Criminology at Ontario Tech University. Although I have steadily

climbed the educational ladder, I attribute my current success

to Centennial College’s Community and Justice Services

program for providing me with the foundation to succeed. I

intend to one day earn my PhD while also serving as a police

When I approached graduation from the Biomedical Engineering

Technology program at Centennial College, I was still unsure where I

wanted to work. Although the program provided me with great

opportunities and on the job co-op experience, I wanted to pursue

education further and combine business with engineering. I

investigated the Centennial pathways program and after working

hard, I was easily able to transfer my credits to the University of

Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT, now Ontario Tech University).

At UOIT I enrolled in Commerce, where I developed my business

acumen and earned my Bachelor of Commerce degree.

Both the hands-on skills from my advanced diploma at Centennial

and the additional business knowledge from my degree have

provided me with a wealth of unique skills that are highly valued. I

have utilized these learnings to pursue a career in Business

Operations and Process Improvement and have worked for large

companies including Amazon and Bell Canada.

I highly recommend the pathways program to continue your learning

and develop invaluable skills for your future!
