2020 Vision

THE PROJECT

Working with professional artists 2020

Vision was originally envisioned as a

project that would creatively explore

themes most important to young

people in 2020 whether that was

the environment, racism, housing,

coronavirus, Brexit or anything else

they were passionate about.

But, just as the project as about to

get underway a global pandemic

struck. This meant that we had to find

new ways of working, new ways of

connecting and new ways of sharing

how we thought about the world

around us. Sessions were delivered

in small socially distant groups

in Bromford, when possible, and

online via ZOOM, a new and often

challenging experience for many.

The pandemic presented a completely

unique situation in which to deliver an

arts project, something that is usually

very hands-on and personal. The

young people rose to the challenge

of juggling a serious health crisis

alongside the already challenging

nature of being a young person in

the modern world and committed to

producing some new and exciting art.

Some things worked, some things

didn’t but they were always willing

to try, explore and learn from the

experience.

The work that was produced is a mix

of spoken word, film & photography,

music & sound, sculptures, crafts and

visual arts. The group have curated

their work to be presented to the world

via a virtual gallery experience and the

zine you are now reading.

This project would not have been

possible without the funding, help and

support of our partner organisations

and participants.

HOPE

Hope’s art forms include fashion

and graphic design, poetry and

she has experimented with

visual arts including nail art

and collage.

Hope explores themes of mental

health, promoting positive

wellbeing and self worth.

If there was one thing she could

tell the world it would be

“it’s okay and you can get

through this”.

ANDREW

Andrew is a talented graphic

designer and gamer, who has

been experimenting with mixing

poetry and in-game video

capture to create juxtaposing

comments on war and conflict

as entertainment.

Andrew’s video

As well as this, Andrew has

skills in drawing and graphic

design and is interested in

gaming cut scene animation.

Andrew would like the world “to

stay happy”.

ABI

During the first lockdown Abi

picked up lots of crafts like

embroidery and crochet, but

found them boring so decided to

bring her other interests into

the mix.

This lead to the creation of

pieces like the one pictured here,

a cute otter holding a protest

sign that reads “eat the rich”.

She finds the juxtaposition very

funny and wanted to add a sense

of humour into her art.

EMILY

Emily is a keen wildlife

photographer, often using her pet

bird and fish as subjects.

As well as this she has been

developing her short story writing

including stories about pirates,

scientist and haunted houses.

Emily is also a budding actor with

Bromford Theatre Group, playing a

Lady in Waiting in Robin Hood and

Princess Jasmin in the upcoming

panto.

Emily wants the world to “not

judge people”.

SKYE

Skye is a budding photographer,

documenting her life and the

place she lives.

Skye likes to challenge how

people see her environment using

photography to create new and

unqiue images.

Skye also captures images of

people and their pets, finding

the connection they share and

the companionship they bring,

especially during the recent

global pandemic.

ETHAN

Ethan works with photography

in a way that looks at the world

from another perspective.

Ethan also uses the photographs

he captures as the basis for

digital artworks.

In these artworks Ethan creates

images that go beyond what the

camera can capture and explores

the unseen and hidden.

WORTH UNLIMITED • THE HUB

Working for a world as it should be...

At the heart of Worth Unlimited is a yearning for a world that’s as it should

be - a world in which all people thrive, the environment flourishes, diversity is

celebrated and deprivation doesn’t exist. We know that this dream is shared

by people all over the world and we believe that it can be achieved if we work

together for the change we seek.

Everyone has the potential to be a change-maker, but for many young people,

precarious circumstances and significant obstacles result in that potential

being squandered. Our quest is to keep that from happening.

LISTEN THREADS

As part of Worth Unlimited,

a national charity dedicated

to inspiring hope together.

Listen Threads is a fashion

social enterprise run by the

East Birmingham and Solihull

team. This incredible venture

allows young women the

opportunity to pursue their

love of fashion, engage in

creativity and teamwork, and

gain entrepreneurial experience.

Not only does this have a huge

impact on the lives of those

young people who take part, but

for every t-shirt bought this can

fund an hour of 1:1 mentoring

for a young woman.

Just as Worth Unlimited works

to inspire and help people

thrive, the young women behind

Listen Threads are equally as

passionate about making the

world a better place, celebrating

diversity and helping inspire

others people to make positive

change in their lives. They want

to show the world that anything

really is possible.
