EQUITY RELEASE
Local independent, equity release specialists, Laterlivingnow!
has been named ‘Winner’ of the 'Best Financial Adviser -
5orfewer advisers' category atthe ‘Equity Release Awards
2022’, the ‘Oscars’ of the industry.
of experience, knowledge and skills
to help guide people at what can be a
critical point in their lives.”
Not being tied toany single lender,
Laterlivingnow! can access the
‘whole of market’,helping sourcethe
most favourable plans fromover 700
available today, and secureattractive
fixed interest rates for life. With
interest rates widely reportedasdue
to rise, many homeowners over 55
are taking advantage by releasing
equity now.
Pictured collecting the award: Simon Chalk -founder,
Kaye Wallis –Head ofMarketing, &Chris South –Adviser
Laterlivingnow!, asthe only Equity
Releasespecialist company based in
Chesterfield and Derbyshire but
serving clients throughout the UK
including our own Doorsteppa area,
claimed ‘BestFinancial Adviser–5or
fewer advisers’ at the Equity
Release Awards ceremony in
LondoninJanuary.
Simon Chalk – founder, said “This
award is testament to thehard work,
integrity, and expertise ofour small
privately owned firm,” Kaye Wallis –
Head of Marketing added “The
judging panelwereclearly impressed
by thefirst-class service we offer our
clients and our reputation for giving
clear, appropriate advice and
guidance”
Simon doesn’t intend letting the
company become too big for its
boots.“We are small, independent of
every lender and enjoy being so. The
bignational firms thatadvertise on
TV and the internet are often
promoting their own plans and
simply cannot match us for personal
service or choice”.
Customer delight is evidenced by88
Google Reviews – each one an
impressive ‘5-star ***** rating, with
166 reviews averaging 4.9 out of 5.0
on VouchedFor –the leading site for
reviews of professional firms. This
has helped Laterlivingnow! gain a
listing in the Sunday Times ‘Top
Rated Advisers 2022’ guide, due out
in March.
Simon said “more and more advisers
and big brands are entering the
equity release market, making it
difficult for customers to know who
to trust with such a big decision.
Taking out aLifetime Mortgage can
affect entitlementtocertain benefits
and impact on future choiceinpaying
for care. Webelieve that our small
team possess the best combination
With inflation making everyone’s
living costs rise, Laterlivingnow! has
experienced an increase in enquiries
fromhomeowners over 55 looking to
cover day-to-day living expenses, or
to help out family. The pandemic has
led to people spending more time at
home, encouraging them to make
home improvements, extend living
space,oradapting aroomtobecome
ahome-office.
Laterlivingnow! offers aFREE initial
consultation to help homeowners
decide ifanequity release lifetime
it maynot always be the best option.
ARIES 21 March -20April
Putting emotion aside use your head and think things
through. This is no time for wishful thinking or emotional outbursts.
If necessary someone in aposition of authority can offer help and
guidance. Heed their words! This could be around career or a
partnership issue. Act with prudence and check every detail witha
finetoothcomb. Historically, errorshavebeenmade but there’s no
reason why you can’t, with care and thought, improve your position.
TAROTSCOPES
LIBRA 24 September -23October
Recent tensions start to lift andthe relief thisbrings is
welcome. Spring is in theair and you benefit from thepromise of
longer daysand thesummer to come. You’remore than capable
of dealing with anything put before you and have apositive, can
do, attitude. Financially, you’re asked to be circumspect with
money. Investments look good with the chance of alump sum
coming your way. Thrift is your watchword now.
TAURUS 21 April -21May
You owe alot to that person who pushed you along because
now you should be standing out from thecrowd and basking in the
warm glowofvictory. Please don’t let it go to yourhead; nobody
likes ashow off! This is thestart of something wonderful. Time to,
once and for all,let go of thepast and forge ahead in your own
way. Successisassured providing you make theeffort.
GEMINI 22 May -21June
Alow mood can be lifted by ensuring plenty of rest and
relaxation. Don’t let things spiral out of control. Some tough
choices and decisions need to be made and you’re undecided on
your best course of action. For now do nothing and let events
unfold as they should. Worrying won’t help and if you havefaith in
yourself, and theworld at large, you’llfind the most happy of
outcomes arriving on your doorstep.
2
CANCER 22 June -23July
Someone isn’t quite whom they seemand could, potentially,
put aspanner in your works. It might be best to keep your cards
close to your chestfor now. You have ideas aplentyand one of
them brings amuch happier, more rewarding, lifestyle with it.
However! To bring all this to fruition will require you to digdeep
within yourself to find ways to overcome resistance from others.
Determination is thekey to success.
LEO 24 July-23 August
Let goofthe old to make way for the new. You’re going
through agreat period of transformation. New places and new
faces come stronglyinto focus. Possibly achange of employment
or perhaps aholiday to adestination you’ve never been before.
Either waythereismuchhappiness to look forward to. Whythen
are you feeling somewhat despondent? There’s adanger of
missing out on awonderful opportunityifyou’re not careful!
VIRGO 24 August-23 September
Feeling alittle disheartened? There are opportunities
around which will bring much joy and happiness if only you would
let them. That said, one person isn’tquite who they claim to be
and could engage in tittle tattlewhichdoesn’t benefit you. Keep
your eyes open and miss nothing. Look to how you can safeguard
your future and putting alittleaside forarainy day helps.
Someone lends alistening ear and emotional support.
SCORPIO 24 October -22November
Finances feature strongly withnew opportunities in career,
business, and property, as well as acontinuation of good fortunein
relationships. You findyourself in theright place at theright time
to capitalize on eventsasthey unfold and whatever you touch has
thepotential to yield dividends. Go forwhat you want full-steam
ahead and don’t take no for an answer. Success comes from
thinking outside thebox and taking an alternative path.
SAGITTARIUS 23 November -21December
Emotions go from one extremetoanother and it is
exhausting! More than one situation is involved, though work and
career seem themain culprit. Allyou can do is maintain asteady
pace and keep going. Aresolution is nearer than youthink. It’s
imperative youask forhelp and delegatewhere necessary. One
area requires input and decisions from others. To findpeace you’ll
have to accept the outcome and work withit.
CAPRICORN 22 December -20January
Anew adventure awaitsand you can’t wait to be on your way.
There will be twists and turns placed beforeyou but it’s all exciting
stuff. Remember thereare no guarantees in life but if you don’ttry
you’llnever know your capabilities. Luckily foryou thereismore
thanahint of success and you’ll be on topofthe world as events
slot in to place. Be fair to everyone including yourself.
AQUARIUS 21 January -19February
Not everyone is who theysay they aresobeware of who you
confide in. You have abig decision before you and thepull
between ‘should you’ or ‘shouldn’t you’ weighs heavy. Think
carefully, taking into consideration all possible outcomes. Once
you have made your decision and moved forward then bridges will
be burned. It’s notasgloomy as it sounds and beyond the
decision making is thereliefofaplan in place.
PISCES 20 February -20March
Home is where the heart is so don’t be afraid to close the
door on the rest of the world and relax with your feet up. You’ve
worked hard and it’s now time to reap therewards. Property
matters and finance feature stronglyand bothshould have a
positive slant to them. Even if something fails to liveupto
expectations; do not fear. Eventuallyitwill turn out far better than
you ever imagined.
Eckington Poppy Club
It all started in lockdown when
Armistice day and Remembrance
Day was cancelled due to Covid.
With plenty of time onmyhands
I decided to start crocheting
poppies.astheystarted to mount
up, Idecided toask Eckington if
anyone wanted to join me and
the projectgot underway.
forcesthatdiedmakingthe world
to get people in the community
making poppies different sizes,
styles and shades of red and sew
them onthe cam net. This would
be displayed on the tower of
St Peters and Pauls Church
Eckington.
Christmas arrived and as we also
neededtotop up the poppiesthe
project went back into our own
homes.
As Iamveteran, Iwantedtomake
something different with a
At this time still inlockdown the
community started making
poppiesintheir own homes.After
many months and the end of
lockdown in site (August 2021).
Eckington Poppy club started to
meet in the church hall. We found
we had abigger task than first
thought so for Armistice Day and
Remembrance 2021 our project
was displayed inside the church
for the community to see our
progress.
HISTORY
This month Killamarsh Heritage Society mark 10 years
since the three sculptures were erected on the Trans
Pennine Trail just above Forge Lane in Killamarsh.
2
The sculptures were unveiled on the 12th
of March 2012 as part of aConnect2
projectbySustrans including the two foot
bridges over the River Rother and linking
the Halfway tram terminus with the Trans
Pennine Trail at Killamarsh bypassing the
busyB6058 Station Road.
Sustrans, the sustainable transport
charity launched its five year Connect2
projectinAugust2006 and it involved the
creationofnew cycle and walking routes,
bridges and otherfacilities in 79 locations
around the UK. It aimed tocreate new
networks of local paths, improve cycling
and walking access and to connect local
areas.
The scheme provided alinkfor Killamarsh
residents to the tram terminus and
Morrisons at Halfway and alsoprovides a
safe route for Halfway residentstoaccess
the Trans Pennine Trail both north
towards Rother Valley Country
Park/Sheffield and south towards
Staveley/Chesterfield. The scheme
comprises ofa33metre bridge over the
River Rother, a31metre bridge over the
railway line and tarmac 3.5 metre paths
linking to the new bridges from Old Lane
(in Halfway) and Forge Lane (in
Killamarsh).
The sculpture installation is one of
several created as part of a national
portrait bench co-ordinated bySustrans.
Local people were chosen tobepart of
the tableau –one to representKillamarsh
(NorthEastDerbyshire), one to represent
Sheffield and one to represent
Rotherham. They were chosen onthe
basis of their individual contributions to
the community. The selection was made
from public nominations and a
subsequent vote.
The silhouettes were reproduced from
photographs cut from sheet steel which
were left untreated so as to attain a
weathered appearance. The wooden
bench has asmall round plaque set into
one end describing the contributions of
the three chosenpeople.
The final three which you will see today
are:
Representing Killamarsh–
Corporal LiamRiley
A British Army soldier with the 3rd
Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment who
was tragically killed in Afghanistan
aged 21 whilst trying to safe afriend’s
life.
Representing Sheffield -
Clinton Woods
IBFlightheavyweight World Champion
Boxer 2005-2008. He now works to
motivate young people in Sheffield.
Representing Rotherham -
Colin Savage
Achampion oflocal causes who has
worked tirelessly for the community
and local people throughout his life.
So next time you are out walking or
cycling go and checkthem out.
Make your Mother’s Day!
MONTHLY FOCUS
2
Your life changes forever the day youbring home your little bundle
of joy. Whether you give birth naturally, adopt or foster, this little
person now depends on you for everything. From now on they
come first, you comesecond, and apoorsecond at that.
Beingamother is fabulous, and funny, and frightening. It’s the best
and worst ofjobs. There are cuddles and giggles, sports days and
parents’ evenings, Nativities, and music recitals…there are also
blazing rows with slammeddoors, sleeplessnightsand morevomit
thanyou ever realised one small humancould produce.
of your own to tell your motherwhat she means to you. Make sure
sheknows thatshe’s loved and appreciatedall year round.
Mumsare multi-tasking maestros.Carer, teacher, agony aunt,tour
guide, drill sergeant, PA, and chauffeur… Even when they leave
homeitdoesn’t stop. Istill rely on my motherfor advice, help with
childcare,and ashoulder to cryonwhenthingsgopear-shaped.
It’s only now as with children of my own, thatIrealise what my own
motherwentthrough–why she made me do my homework, go to
bed early, stop beating my sister up, eat mybroccoli, save my
pocket money, don’t talk to strangers, and say please and thank you.
Mother’s Day might have become acliché, but it does give us the
perfect opportunity tosay thank you to our mums for everything
theyhave done andstill do forus.
Anna Jarvis, who founded Mothers’Day in theUSsaidshe came to
regret campaigning to get the day recognised, because it became
commercialised. She hated that people sent cards with a pre
printed message rather than writing aletter.
So, although it’s anice gesture to buy acard and give flowers and
chocolates, it’s even nicer to do something specialtoshow you care
–maybe valet her carortreat her to apamper session, or just visit
and spend the afternoon chatting. Timeisthe mostprecious gift of
all.
And go beyond the message in the card. Write afew personal lines
Mother’s Day is celebrated all around the world, usually in March
or in May.
In theUK, it is amixture of aChristian tradition, and the celebration
of motherhood that began in the USA in the early 20th century.
During the 16th century, people in service would return to their
home or ‘mother’ churchonthe fourth Sunday in Lent –Mothering
Sunday.
The modern version of Mothers’ Day we know today became a
regular event in the 1950s, largely thanks to businesses keen to
exploit itscommercialpotential!
Dubai isthe perfect family destination, with a
multitude of activities, eateries and theme
parks for all the family to enjoy together.
Winter time, from November toApril, is the
besttime to visit.
Waterparks
Dubai’s waterparks have something for all
2ages. From the thrilling rides for adrenaline
junkies to idyllic beaches for those who like a
slower pace oflife, here are some ofthe best
waterparks to visit:
•Legoland Water Park caters for children all
ages.There’saDuplo Splash Safari for toddlers,
while other slides provide thrills for the bigger
children. At‘Build-A-Boat’, children can even
construct aboat and test it on the water. This
waterpark isperfect for those with children
aged 2 to 12 with plenty of interactive
experiences.
•The biggestwaterparkinDubai,Aquaventure
is made up of two main towers, Poseidon and
Neptune, connected byagiant lazy river that
transports riders between slides. For those
with astrong stomach, try the Leap ofFaith, a
wide-open near-verticaldrop!
•AquaFun is the region’s biggest inflatable
waterpark with 74 games totry along the fun
course. Italso features some of the world’s
longest and highest water slides.
•Splash Pad at The Beach isperfect for little
ones with its fountains, tipper bucket and
climbing frames. There’s also plenty of
entertainment nearby to keep you busy into
the evening.
Friday Brunch
Dubai’s working week spans Sunday to
Thursday so Friday is the time to kick back and
enjoy adelicious family-friendly brunch:
•The Ultimate Friday Brunch takes place at
Flow Kitchen atFairmont the Palm. There’s a
selection of healthy bites, Middle Eastern
classics and delicious roasts from live cooking
stations. The little ones can stay entertained
with activities suchasfacepaintingand fun arts
and crafts.
•Brunch atAtmosphere, onlevel 122 of the
Burj Khalifa tower is one of those ‘only in
Dubai’ experiences! Itonly takes place four
times ayear, but the extraordinary views and
15 dishes make it unmissable!
•Lock, Stock &Barrel specialises indelicious
southern US fare and the delicious brunch
features classics such asmac ‘n’ cheese balls,
buffalo wings and beef sliders, all at
wallet-friendly prices.
Kids rule at Kidzania!
Located inside the Dubai Mall, Kidzania is a
place where children can work, play and
pretend in this made up town where they’re in
charge! There are over 80-role playing activities
and 60 city establishments where children can
build essential real-life skills. On arrival,
children begin at the airport with aboarding
pass and 50 kidzos (the Kidzania currency).
They can head to the bank, cash their checks
and hit the streets to explore.Theycan work to
earn more money in avariety of roles such as
firefighter or beautician and then treat
themselves to things like shopping sprees and
entertainment. They’ve earned it!
Something alittledifferent
If the family have had enough ofall the usual
sun, sea and sand-based activities, here are a
few ideasfor something alittle different…
•OliOli is afresh conceptfor children aged two
to 11 which is split into eight themedgalleries.
From Toshi’s Net,acolourfulhanging play area,
to launching cannonballs inthe Water Gallery
and tinkering in the Creative Lab, there’splenty
to keep little ones occupied!
• A unique shopping experience, City Walk
fuses entertainment, shopping and dining. Try
Hub Zero for avirtual gaming experience or The
Green Planet – an enclosed ecosystem
recreating atropicalrainforest with over 3,000
plants andanimals!
•The new VR Park combines augmented and
virtual reality with options for all the family.
Keep the Frame -Lose the Pane!
Most of us have double glazing thesedays. What a
wonderful thing itis! No more draughts, warmer
houses, lessnoise. But what happens when the seal
goes and condensation starts to form? Doesitmean
paying out foracomplete new window andframe?
Not at all! According toSteve Godley (pictured
right), owner of PerfectlyClear Windows, it’s often
not necessary to renew the complete window and
frame. Simply replacingthe defective glass will do -
and save you lots of expenseinthe process!
options in order for thecustomer to make a
