Letter to Delabole SlateThank you for being a part of wind power historygood energyThirty years ago Delabole made history as the site of the UK’s first commercial wind farm. The Edwards family took apioneering step into what was a relatively unknown and untested technology, having discussed what use the plentiful windin the area could be put to.Then, nearly 20 years ago, Good Energy bought the wind farm and just over 10 years ago, in 2010, we invested in repoweringthe turbines. The ten old turbines were replaced with four new ones which more than doubled the wind farm’s output toenough power to power roughly 7000 homes.A couple of years later we introduced our local tariff. A 20% discount on our standard variable tariff with an additional £50 ayear when the wind farm performed well. Along side our contributions to the Delabole Wind Farm Community Fund. It wasour way of saying thank you to local people. As customers on the tariff will now know, it is now closing, this is following the sale of the wind farm, alongside all of our otherwind and solar farms to Bluefield Partners LLP.We are very proud of our involvement in the Delabole Community and this piece of wind power history and want to thankyou for your support over the years. The sale of our wind and solar farms was made in order to invest in our future strategy, focused on encouraging more local, small scale renewables with services that support them, alongside growth in the cleantransport sector.Even though the tariff is closing, the wind farm will continue to support the local community through the Delabole Wind FarmCommunity Fund. Over the years Good Energy has contributed around £100,000 through the fund which has been investedinto projects including energy efficiency measures and solar panels at Delabole Primary School, repairs to the church roofand even sports kits for the football and cricket clubs. The community fund will now pass over to the new owners. Bluefieldare a dedicated renewable investor and generator and we are very confident they will be excellent stewards.Good Energy’s commitment to supporting renewables remains, through the community of over 1900 independent generatorsfrom which we purchase power. In fact we are still buying from Delabole Wind Farm so if you remain a customer, you willstill be effectively using locally sourced clean electricity.Thank you for being a part of wind power history.Events at St Endellion (Port Isaac PL29 3TP)Saturday 2nd April, 10am-12pmSt Endellion Parish Hall (next to the church)Endelienta Make Club - Rocks£5 per familyRoll, print, draw and paint to create your own rock layer artwork. Each month we have new creative ideas to keep the wholefamily busy.
