MARCH

EDITION

EDITOR LETTER

Oh my goodness! Over 10 000 views. thank you so much for all of your

comments and amazing messages full of kind words and encouragement.

I have always endeavoured to communicate messages of empowerment,

inclusivity, diversity and tolerance through my work by sharing my truth and

by giving a platform to those who can’t do that on their own. My work has

always been for the fighters, for activists and for those who face adversity

and want to evoke change.

Believing in yourself is often the biggest obstacle of all, everything is

possible when it comes from the heart and from a place of truth, by living a

lie you spend your life living in nothing but an illusion, Be you, be true and

never, ever let anyone tell you that you can’t.

During my years in Second Life as a model, blogger and working in the

fashion industry, I have heard numerous stories and have personally

witnessed designers, models, artists and residents not being seen, heard,

or even represented, It is not surprising that some designers and content

creators end up having no in-world store and are left with “marketplace

only“ because they can’t afford to pay their rent anymore, I can assure you

it’s not because they lack talent, but because they get forgotten or ignored.

EQUALIZER Magazine exists to place out a stepping stone for hope and

change, nothing will prevent us from getting our message out across the

grid and beyond. We are veteran's and masters, the old and the new, we

are where vintage culture and innovation meet and exist in symbiosis.

I want to thank my team who are like a second family to me and all of the

designers, artists, and sponsors for your trust in working and collaborating

with us, we have met, talked and interacted with every single one of you,

listening to your stories and admiring your work and creativity, we

endeavour to translate and present your vision to all, to the best of our

abilities.

TYMON

Best regards,

ALRXANDER

Save the date! On June 23rd, Second Life will be turning 19! The 19th

annual Second Life birthday celebration (SL19B) will be held from

June 16th to July 5th. The theme for SL19B festivities is Steampunk!

Get ready for three fun-filled weeks of live music, performances,

shopping, and amazing community exhibits!

To get things started we are opening applications for Music Fest, to

be held June 16th-18th. Music Fest will kick off the overall SL19B

celebration with three days of live music performances featuring

some of the most talented live musicians in SL!

To sign up for a Music Fest audition, please complete this

application form by April 10th, 2022.

We are also opening up applications for the general performance

schedule. Why celebrate for one day when we can party for a week!

We are looking for all types of performers to join the week-long

festivities from June 19th-26th. Are you a DJ who can spin up a great

party set or a live performer who can jam all night? You might be one

of the grid’s amazing Dance companies, or perhaps you’re a Particle

Performer? One of the things that makes Second Life so vibrant and

exciting is the wide range of performers who share their talent with

our Residents. Whatever your medium, we would love to hear from

you!

Fill out the official performer application form by May 8th, 2022 and

tell us a little about how you roll.

While we encourage all interested performers to sign up, please note

that it does not guarantee a spot. We will review all submissions and

extend audition invitations via a follow up note in-world to the SL

username that you provide.

Over the next few months, keep an eye on our blog for more

opportunities to participate in the SL19B celebrations as an

Exhibitor, Volunteer, and Merchant!

CURRENT APPLICATIONS FOR SL19B:

Performer Application - Applications close on May 8th, 2022

an

you please introduce yourself? Name where

are you from....

My name is Emilio Cordewa. I am 24 years old and I

am from Ecuador.

-When and how did you find out about Secondlife?

I discovered Second Life 7 years ago through an

advertisement on YouTube. I was looking for an

update to the game The Sims and I saw an

advertisement for SL, it caught my attention, I

clicked, I entered and I was hooked.

-What is your motto in life?

My motto in life is to always improve myself in life

despite the obstacles. But I think my main source of

motivation or motto in life is that present me can

achieve what past me couldn't. In other words, if one

day I get up and stumble, the next day I have the

opportunity to show yesterday's 4 Emilio that I could.

?How did you get into fashion design?

is it something related to your real-life

occupation?

My life has always been wrapped up in

cinema and fashion. These are things

that I am passionate about. But really,

it wasn't until I got into SL that I

realized what an amazing fashion

world surrounds SL. At that moment I

wanted to embark on this path, which

has not been easy at all. It has brought

me arguments, joys, sadness. But in

the end it is as the saying goes: you

will reap what you have sown. It has

been 6 long years of learning and I feel

that I still have a lot to learn.

What Cordewa means? and how can

you describe your brand?

Cordewa actually comes from a

lineage of vampires, of which I have

always been a great fan, but for me it

has a very important meaning because

it was the first surname that welcomed

me in this virtual world. I am very fond

of him because this surname has

accompanied me throughout my

career. This is why I decided to give it

the honor of being the name of my

brand (besides, it sounds nice).

My brand is a multifaceted mix

between EQUALIZERMAG Japanese streetwear, cyber,

sensual, fashion and urban. Cordewa is

an interesting mix of everything

mentioned above, since I have never

wanted to pigeonhole it into a single

style.

Cordewa is multifaceted, chameleonic,

and I have tried to reach all kinds of

people. Giving the opportunity to mix

styles and find everything in one

place.

-What can we expect from you in the

future?

I would like my brand to reach many

more people in the future. And well,

the addition that my brand has, and

that people can expect, is that behind

each creation there is a lot of time

invested, a lot of research, study, a lot

of feedback, in order to always offer

an improved product, always

surpassing

myself. Always a better

version than FORTUNE

Kryptonia:

Hey Samuel nice to see you and thanks

for having time for an interview with

me.

I know you have a busy schedules, i

promise it wont take long ;)

Samuel:

Hey Kryptonia, Im never too busy for

you, and besides ive been looking

forward to catching up

Samuel:

well, when i was younger i did music,

hiphop actually, vocals only, was pretty

successful, but i got married, had a kid,

moved on, i guess when Covid happened

a lot of us were bored, i just picked up

my guitar in early 2020 and started

writing songs, i had nothing else to do

lol i'd never really played guitar outside

of the odd party here and there.

Kryptonia:

So, tell us a bit about yourself and how

did you get into Music?

Kryptonia:

You mentioned that you are Autistic,

does it have influenced to your SL and

RL music career?

Samuel:

yes it 100% does, it takes me 5 mins to

write a song and n hour, to write,

record n release a song, and i write so

much. my only downfall is budget, ive

resorted to home recording because by

the time i saved enough for studio

time i'd have 70 songs that need

recording, the down sides are im bad

with ppl, im dorky and i say weird

things at weird times, im a total loser

lol

Kryptonia:

What is your main inspiration?

Samuel:

my own experiences, my pain, my

brokeness, my desire to love and be

loved

Kryptonia:

What genre of music are you most?

Samuel:

Indie/folk/pop, lol, a mix of those

Kryptonia:

When did you know singing was going

to be your SL career?

Samuel:

in 2021 in october, i knew its what i

wanted to do

Kryptonia:

Who would you most like to

collaborate with?

Samuel:

Semina, for sure, i would say J Lively

but we have already written a song

together currently on Spotify

Kryptonia:

Which famous musicians do you

admire? (in RL)

Samuel:

Bob Dylan, Dermot Kennedy

Kryptonia:

When and how did you hear about

Second Life?

Samuel:

i googled "non violent video games"

back in like 2010

Kryptonia:

What means SL music community to

you?

Samuel:

its a place to be not alone in a lonely

world, a place that brings comfort

Kryptonia:

Describe your favorite and least

favorite part about being a musician.?

Samuel:

my fav part is def people loving m

music, telling me how a song i wrote

touched them, that hits hard, i feel

deeply and hearing one of my songs is

like sitting with me while i cry in rl,

its intimate and you see my soul, so

when people like it, i feel seen. My

least fav part is realizing that people

mostly want loud, karaoke backing

track sound, they want to be

entertained with lights and smoke

machines, me and my broken guitar

cant do that, im just a quiet soft guy

with a simple sound

interview

TymonAlexander:

We want to know about the role and type of community you are representing

in SL.

Gentle Heron:

Virtual Ability is two entities:

1. It is an international cross-disabilit support community, which means our

members have one or more of the following kinds of disabilities: physical,

mental, emotional, developmental, or sensory (deafness or blindness). Some

of us have multiple disabilities.

2. It is a real world nonprofit corporation, and as such we have certain legal

obligations that go beyond Second Life.

Gentle Heron:

We have info area and places in our land.

Auditorium

Our auditorium have no stairs, which is great for people in wheelchairs, the

width of the floor in front of the seats are big enough for person in a

wheelchair, they can go right in front of people seated and not crushing toes.

Some people who use wheelchairs in RL want their avatars to have them.

Blind people use a special SL viewer called Radegast. It allows them to see the

name of every object around them so they know the names/numbers of each

seat cushion.

Radegast is specially made SL viewer.

Two of our Virtual Ability community members wrote the help guide for

Radegast and another community member is the programmer for it.

Main public island

where we have couple of classrooms, our New Resident Orientation

Course (we are a Community Gateway recognized by Linden Lab)

We hold 2 annual professional conferences in this auditorium, in the

spring the Mental Health Symposium and in the fall the International

Disability Rights Affirmation Conference.

We also have events for our members just about every day. We have field

trip, dance and theme event. We do fun things together.

Health Info Island

This island is our public island where we provide health and wellness

information for the general public.

On your right you see 3 of the 8 poster sets we use to provide information

on a variety of topics. These posters are ones we use to help people find

other support groups in SL. You can click a poster to get information

about each group.

Kryptonia Paperdoll: All this banners are support group that exist in SL?

Gentle Heron: Yes correct Kryptonia, some are SL branches of RL groups,

like Alcoholics Anonymous and some only exist in SL

Gentle Heron: We also have our own Art Gallery on one of our residential

sims. It exhibits only works by artists with disabilities.

We have a Library on another of our residential sims that has only works

by writers with disabilities. We like to show that we are people with

Abilities, not just DISabilities!

Kryptonia Paperdoll: How many member do you have at the moment?

Gentle Heron: 1328 from 6 continents. We really are international. We are

all volunteers. Our corporation has no paid employees

ymonAlexander: Where the funds that support your facilities come

from?

Gentle Heron: Well, we are a nonprofit, so we of course accept donations.

But the majority of our funding is from work that we do for other RL

entities. We mainly help researchers who work in SL

Our clients have included universities, government agencies, and the US

Veterans Administration.

We work with lots of different entities. All of our work is done in virtual

worlds.

But what our contract work allows is we can train and then hire people

with disabilities to assist with research tasks.

They learn useful skills, and get paid for the work they do on that project.

Then they can find other work using the skill we taught them.

TymonAlexander: Well we would love to give our support

Gentle Heron: Your sharing about Virtual Ability with your readers is

helpful to us. Anyone with a disability is welcome to contact me.

TymonAlexander: We thank you for your dedication

Gentle Heron: A lot of teamwork, certainly not all me! We have a

corporate Board of Directors, or course, but that is RL.

Inworld we have an Executive Team that runs the day-to-day work. We

have lots of folks volunteering for different tasks, like holding a class,

DJing a party, running our blog and Facebook....So in a way everyone is

part of our team, our whole community.
