from the
editor
Hello
MAY!
In May we celebrate Mom! It’s very easy to make
Mom feel special in Delray. With so many wonderful
restaurants to choose from, satisfying any food or
craving she may have will be easy. There are also
amazing salons and spas to pamper her. Inside this issue
we have included special recipes that are sure to make
Mom feel loved. Check out Delray Under $50, and our
Mother’s Day pages for some suggestions on spoiling Mom!
This month we dine at Il Contadino, sampling traditional
Italian recipes and enjoying every last bite! Chef Michel
only uses the freshest ingredients and will customize any
entrée to your liking. A hidden gem in Pineapple Grove
with a wine list that will impress any Sommelier. Every dish
is a work of art - a feast for your eyes and your tummy!
Lieutenant Gary Ferreri from the Delray Beach Police
Department is our City Person this month. Feeling safe
at night is easy knowing that Lt. Ferreri is in charge as
the Night Time Watch Commander working the difficult
overnight hours from 5pm to 5am! But incredibly so, even
while working those hours, Lt. Ferreri still finds time to
be a mentor, bring ice cream trucks to neighborhoods, and
even dress up as Santa to bring joy to our community.
We end this month honoring our fallen Heroes.
Monday, May 30th is Memorial Day. Take a moment out
of celebrations, barbecues, and beach time to remember
the men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice. And
let’s also take a moment and pray for the brave people of
Ukraine, fighting fiercely every day to stay alive. Let us
never take for granted our freedom that many willingly
protected till their last breath.
Love, Yvette
Our flag does
not fly because
of the wind
moving it. It flies
with the last
breath of each
soldier who died
protecting it.
Delray Beach Public Library
with Delray Beach Housing
Authority Distribute
GrandPads to Seniors
The Delray Beach Public Library has partnered with the Delray
Beach Housing Authority to distribute 54 GrandPad
tablets to seniors at Lake Delray Apartments.
A GrandPad is a computer tablet designed especially for seniors
75 and over who have little to no experience with technology.
The Internet is built right in and users have easy access
to video chat with doctors, friends, and family, as well as many
options for entertainment like games, music, local radio stations,
news articles, and so much more. The average GrandPad
user is 82 years old.
The Delray Beach Public Library received a $100,000 grant
from the American Rescue Plan for the GranPads and for updating
computers so patrons when attending a computer class
COPYRIGHTED
would have a better learning experience.
According to Shirley Erazo, President/CEO of Delray Beach
Housing Authority, “These tablets are designed with seniors in
mind so they can connect with loved ones without the complicated
features of other tablets. This simple tablet is perfect
for seniors who are ready to start video chatting and sharing
memories with family and friends around the world.”
Phyllis Martin, one of the recipients of the GrandPad states,
“I haven’t seen my grandson in person and this device lets me
laugh and talk with him. I have become more comfortable with
the technology and I want to thank the library and hope we can
continue to use them.”
Arts Garage Brings Back
Live Theatre
At a time when economic distress, racial stigmas, and gender
confusion continue to challenge the nation, Marjorie
Waldo, President & CEO of Arts Garage, is proud to announce
two upcoming productions—raw, revealing, empowering—
that are bringing live theater back to Pineapple Grove.
Ferocious Love - Friday May 6, at 8pm
Performance poet Mo
Beasley is bringing his “urban
male’s coming of age
story” to Arts Garage. This
“spoken word theatre” experience
puts a whole new
spin on “growing up” in
public housing during the
late 1980s. Ferocious Love
is a thought-provoking
show covering issues of class, dysfunctional families, and
how the ferocity of a mother’s love figures greatly in this journey
for manhood in post-Civil Rights/Black Power America.
Content Warning: May contain strong language. Tickets: $35
Naming True - Sunday May 15, at 7:30 pm
In this play reading of an
“intimate tale of survival,
redemption, and the deep
desire to share our stories,”
playwright/director Natalie
Symons’ Naming True
shares the shattering narratives
of two damaged outsiders:
Amy (played by June
Raven Romero), a transgender
teenage girl who shows up unannounced in the Florida
hotel room of Nell (Kalina Karadavis), a dying woman who’s
lived much of her life on the streets of Detroit. The play explores
faith, identity, forgiveness, and the indelible fingerprints
that guilt and loss leave on lives. The Observer called the play
“gutsy” and praised its “flashes of rude hilarity.” Tickets: $25
Tickets are available by calling the Arts Garage at
561.450.6357 or by going online to www.ArtsGarage.org.
Now Broker-Owner of Realty
Home Advisors, with two offices
and roughly 200 agents under
her leadership in Boca Raton and
Delray Beach, it turns out Eileen’s hunch was
right.
NY: The Early Years
Eileen grew up in Long Island and graduated
from the New York Institute of Technology
with a degree in business administration.
Fresh out of college she worked for an entertainment
company in Manhattan but quickly
grew frustrated by the limited opportunities
for advancement.
Craving a career with greater flexibility and
limitless potential, Eileen also knew she
wanted to raise a family and help others
succeed. Real estate provided the opportunity
to have it all.
Eileen recalls, “I signed up for a real estate
salesperson’s course that same week that I
bought my fourth house and joined Prudential
Long Island Realty (now Douglas Elliman)
after passing the test,” Eileen continues,
“I loved that I could be an entrepreneur and
be in charge of my own destiny. My first year
in the business, 1986, I was “Rookie of the
Year” with 38 closed transactions. Subsequently,
I was also Top Producer of the year.”
The Florida Move
“In 2002, my husband and I moved to Boca
Raton with three young children in tow,” Eileen
continues. “I always stayed active in sales
but my most cherished prize are my three
children, all grown up now.”
Eileen opened Realty Home Advisors in
Boca Raton in 2017 and credits her daily
presence in the office as one of the primary
reasons agents love working at RHA.
“As an owner, I wake up every day feeling
gratitude that I can be there to help my
agents and be their biggest cheerleader. I am
very hands on for a broker and I think the
agents appreciate that personal touch, the
one-onone. I am always there for them 24/7.”
Eileen notes Realty Home Advisors also
offers a growing number of learning opportunities
for agents, veterans and rookies alike,
that really help retention and growth. “We
do business planning, coaching, role playing,
consulting, contract guidance and disputes,”
Eileen explains. “Every Wednesday we have
a team call at 9:30 am where I will pick a
different topic to discuss followed by a Q&A
session afterwards.” Last year, Realty Home
Advisors sales volume was $512 million, and
according to Eileen, 2022 seems to be on a
similar pace with families flocking to the east
coast of Florida from the Northeast. Not one
for the spotlight, Eileen is quick to give credit
to her hard-working team for RHA’s success.
Eileen
MCNAMARA VECCHIO
REALTY HOME ADVISORS
Leading with A Personal Touch
“Today is the first day of the rest of your life.”
“I was always fascinated by the real estate market and bought my first house
when I was 25… I actually owned four houses myself by the time I was 28.”
Eileen McNamara Vecchio recalls. “I rented the houses out… and while looking
for investment property, I remember thinking I could be good at this.”
“I couldn’t do this without my amazing
staff… All the right people are in place
and agents often remark how everything is
running like a welloiled machine. We have six
Personal Business Coordinators that manage
the REALTORS® transactions and every
agent is paid within 24 hours of closing.”
When pressed for details as to why she thinks
her agents stick around, Eileen points out
there’s absolutely no red tape at her brokerage.
Eileen says, “I try to listen to my agents
when they express a need and adjust accordingly.
I know my agents also enjoy the fact
that we are an independent brokerage; we can
be flexible when needed without having to go
through layers of management… I can make
the decision right there on the spot.”
When Eileen isn’t at her desk, she enjoys
traveling, being in nature and spending time
with her family and three kittens, two of
whom she rescued. Eileen plans to eventually
scale back her time in the office to focus on
her family, but she never plans to stop doing
what she loves – helping others succeed.
With a father who is also a real estate broker,
a son who is a practicing real estate attorney,
and a daughter who is a commercial property
manager, Eileen would not be surprised if one
of her children eventually took over RHA.
“When they were growing up, my kids heard
me on the phone talking about real estate all
day long because I was doing sales back then,”
Eileen laughs. “So we shall see… but that would
be wonderful if it all works out some day.”
Eileen looks forward to cheerleading from
her broker desk and offers some sage advice
to owners and agents alike: “It’s always
important to have a business plan and to set
goals, have a great attitude and live every day
with a schedule to achieve those goals.”
By Darien Davies
Delray Under $50
Most Fun Small Town, Most Crazy Small Town, Most Small Town that Feels
Like a Big Town. Delray has it all. With a bustling downtown, Pineapple
Grove area, and little nooks and crannies in between, there’s more
to do in Delray now than ever, with events and happenings
spanning from daytime to nighttime. While it can
seem expensive at times, there’s a great
opportunity to enjoy all the City has to offer
without breaking the bank. Here’s what you can
do in Delray Beach in May for $50 or less.
A
garden is literally the gift that keeps on giving. Whether
you’re growing flowers, plants, fruits, herbs, vegetables, or
woody ornamentals, with a little sweat equity, the garden
will continue to provide. May is Gifts from the Garden Month and
is a perfect time to thank all the local gardeners and farmers who
toil the soil for our endless pleasure.
May is the last month of the
Delray Beach Winter Green-
Market so make sure to head
downtown to enjoy the last
of the season’s goods. The
Winter GreenMarket features
more than 65 premier food vendors
featuring farm-to-fork produce,
just picked citrus, tropical
Wait, how it is May?
Wasn’t it just the New
the daily grind gets in the way of
the daily stopping-and-smellingof-the-roses,
it’s time to take a seat,
enjoy a sigh, and revel in the scenery.
May is National Mental Health Month
and a healthy reminder to be kind to
your brain and body. Everyone needs a
break once in a while, and it’s okay to want
it, need it and get it! To push you in the right
direction, the good people at Old School Square
Sure, it’s easy to just plop down on the sofa and watch TV
as a family, but wouldn’t it be more fun to break the mold
and do something a little different? (The answer is yes.)
May is Family Wellness Month and what better time than now
to get the family unit back together before the height of summer
is upon us and everyone disperses for summer school, travel,
camp, etc. If you need a bright idea, look no further than Art &
Jazz on the Avenue. Held Wednesday, May 25 from 6 to 9pm in
the SOFA Neighborhood (Southeast Third Avenue from East Atlantic
Avenue to Southeast Second Street), this free event highlights
local businesses and artists, and features live music for all
to enjoy. The street will be closed, the shops will be open, and
it’s the perfect event for spending time together enjoying all that
our downtown has to offer. The Downtown Development Authority,
in partnership with the Downtown Merchant and Business
Association, is hosting the event and invites you and yours
to stroll the SOFA neighborhood and experience live music, art,
culture, and special promotions by retailers and merchants. Visit
www.downtowndelraybeach.com or call (561) 243-1077 for
more information and the musical lineup.
If you’re looking for a break from the beach and BBQs this
Memorial Day Weekend, head instead to where the crafters
and makers are sharing their makings. You’re guaranteed to
enjoy something new, something creative, and something that
could be the beginning of a beautiful appreciation for a new part
of your art collection. May is Creative Beginnings Month and is
also home to the 24th Annual Downtown Delray Beach Memorial
Day Weekend Craft Festival. Held at the Delray Beach Tennis
Center, this Festival features paintings, jewelry, glass work, pottery,
and much more from some of the nation’s finest crafters.
Not only will you be privy to all of the handmade gifts from vendors
who find beauty in creative beginnings, you’ll also be able
to enjoy a green market-style section of the festival, complete
with gourmet sauces, handmade soaps, live orchids, and more.
The free Festival is held Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29
from 10am to 5pm. So craft your new beginning this month and
see where the rest of the year takes you! The Delray Beach Tennis
Center is located at 201 W Atlantic Ave. Visit www.artfestival.com
or call (561) 746-6615 for more information.
Burgers. Name a more perfect and versatile sandwich. I’ll
wait. Nothing beats a chargrilled burger, a smash burger,
or a double patty smothered in cheese where you can
only dive in face first. May is National Hamburger Month and
while Memorial Day might be the perfect day to indulge, the
burger deserves respect the rest of the month, too. If you prefer
to don a napkin bib instead of an apron, start your burger feast
at The Office and sink your teeth into their CEO Burger, made
with 100% all-natural beef, tomato jam, bacon, gruyere, blue
cheese, arugula, and Office sauce for $21. For an elevated take
on the burger, Cut 432 is proud to serve you their cheeseburger,
made with Jackman Ranch wagyu, aged Vermont cheddar, and
hand-cut fries for $25. If you’re looking for a planet-friendly option,
head to Death or Glory and revel in their California Veggie
Burger, topped with LTOP and avocado mayo, and served on
a potato bun for $15. Whatever the burger version you fancy,
the Ave is sure to deliver (literally and figuratively). Visit www.
downtowndelraybeach.com or call (561) 243-1077 for specific
restaurant information and details.
► Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – In Marvel
Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” the MCU
unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than
ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who,
with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the
mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse
to confront a mysterious new adversary. Benedict Cumberbatch
returns as Doctor Strange, along with Benedict Wong, Rachel
McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, and Xochitl Gomez.
► Happening (Theaters) - France, 1963. Anne is a bright student
with a promising future ahead of her. But when she falls pregnant,
the opportunity to finish her studies and escape the constraints of
her social background is disappearing. With her final exams fast
approaching and her belly growing, Anne resolves to act now, even
if she must confront shame and pain, even if she must risk prison
to do so… “Happening,” also known as L’événement in French, is
directed by French writer/filmmaker Audrey Diwan.
(Teresa Palmer) and husband Anthony (Steven Cree) relocate to
the other side of the world with their surviving son in the hopes
of building a new life. What begins as a time of healing out in the
quiet Scandinavian countryside soon takes an ominous turn when
Rachel begins to unravel the torturous truth about her son and
confronts the malicious forces attempting to take a hold of him.
May 13
► Firestarter (Theaters + Peacock) - For over a decade, parents
Andy (Zac Efron) and Vicky (Sydney Lemmon) have been on
the run, desperate to hide their daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera
Armstrong) from a shadowy government agency that wants to
harness her unprecedented gift for creating fire into a weapon of
mass destruction. Andy has taught Charlie how to defuse her power,
which is triggered by anger or pain. But as Charlie turns 11, the fire
becomes harder and harder to control. After an incident reveals
the family’s location, a mysterious operative (Michael Greyeyes) is
deployed to hunt down the family and seize Charlie once and for all.
Charlie has other plans.
► Downton Abbey: A New Era – “A New Era” is a continuation of
the big screen cinematic “Downton Abbey” story, with the first film
opening back in 2019 following the TV series. This new film will see
the Crawley family and Downton staff receiving a royal visit from
the King and Queen of Great Britain, but that’s not it. There’s also
the buzz of a “motion picture” filming on the Estate, plus a visit to a
mysterious villa in the South of France connected to Violet Crawley.
What is going on with this villa? The ensemble cast features all the
regulars returning: Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Maggie
Smith, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, and Phyllis
Logan; joined by Hugh Dancy, Nathalie Baye, Laura Haddock, and
Dominic West.
► Hold Your Fire (Theaters + VOD) - In 1973, Shu’aib Raheem,
age 23, led a group of four young Black Muslims trying to rob
guns from a sporting goods store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They
were seeking weapons to protect their families from threats of
violence. “In retrospect, it was a fool’s idea,” says Raheem. The
bungled robbery triggered a response of deadly force by police
and the longest hostage siege in NYPD history. Since then, key facts
of the story have been misunderstood even by people who were
involved. Filmmaker Stefan Forbes works with a multicultural team
(including Consulting Producer Sam Pollard) to reconstruct what
took place through the Rashomon-like perspectives of the robbers,
hostages, and police.
May 27
► The Bob’s Burgers Movie – “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” is an
animated, big-screen, musical comedy-mystery-adventure based
on the long-running Emmy-winning series. The story begins when
a ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front
of Bob’s Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining
the Belchers’ plans for a successful summer. While Bob and Linda
struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery
that could save their family’s restaurant. As the dangers mount,
these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back
behind the counter, where they belong.
COPYRIGHTED
► Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers (Disney+) - Chip and Dale are
living amongst cartoons and humans in modern-day Los Angeles,
but their lives are quite different now. It has been decades since
their successful television series was canceled, and Chip (voice of
Mulaney) has succumbed to a life of suburban domesticity as an
insurance salesman. Dale (voice of Sandberg), meanwhile, has had
CGI surgery and works the nostalgia convention circuit, desperate
to relive his glory days. When a former cast mate mysteriously
disappears, Chip and Dale must repair their broken friendship and
take on their Rescue Rangers detective personas once again to save
their friend’s life.
► Top Gun: Maverick - Facing an uncertain future and confronting
the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with
his own deepest fears, culminating in a specialized mission that
demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly
it. Tom Cruise plays Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, and Val Kilmer is also
back; with a full cast including Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon
Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Ed Harris.
Book Lovers
by Emily Henry
Released May 3rd
An insightful, delightful new novel from
the #1 New York Times bestselling author
of Beach Read and People We Meet on
Vacation.
One summer. Two rivals. A plot twist
they didn’t see coming...
Nora Stephens’ life is books—she’s
read them all—and she is not that type
of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the
laidback dream girl, and especially not
the sweetheart. In fact, the only people
Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for
whom she lands enormous deals as a
cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved
little sister Libby.
Which is why she agrees to go to
Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the
month of August when Libby begs her for
a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small
town transformation for Nora, who she’s
convinced needs to become the heroine
in her own story. But instead of picnics
in meadows, or run-ins with a handsome
country doctor or bulging-forearmed
bartender, Nora keeps bumping into
Charlie Lastra, a bookish brooding editor
from back in the city. It would be a meetcute
if not for the fact that they’ve met
many times and it’s never been cute.
If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine,
Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as
they are thrown together again and again—
in a series of coincidences no editor worth
their salt would allow—what they discover
might just unravel the carefully crafted
stories they’ve written about themselves.
career. Through their unlikely friendship,
Craig’s life demonstrated the love of Christ
in a way that shattered Walker’s misconceptions
of Christianity, ultimately leading
him down the path to a dramatic conversion.
The two are now close as brothers,
choosing to be next-door neighbors and
ripped out the fence between their homes
as a testament to the power of the gospel to
break down barriers and unite people together
in Christ. Glad You’re Here helps us
discover how building relationships, sacrificing
for the good of others, and drawing
near in times of need can lead to powerful
transformation. Through story and biblical
reflections, Glad You’re Here helps readers
those who love him.
My Wife Is Missing
by D.J. Palmer
Released May 10th
family vacation turns into a nightmare
A for Michael Hart when he discovers his
wife and two children have disappeared
from their New York City hotel room. Horrified,
he fears they’ve been kidnapped.
Michael’s frantic search to find them takes
a shocking turn when he discovers that
his wife, Natalie, appears to have left quite
willingly, taking their children with her.
The police want to know why, and so does
Michael. But there may be a reason why
Natalie ran, something Michael can’t tell
the police—the truth about his past.
While untangling his deceptions might
be the key to locating Natalie, Michael
knows it could also be his undoing. To
find his wife, he must now turn to the one
person capable of exposing all that he’s
been hiding. Natalie thinks she has Michael
all figured out and has hatched a plan to
escape from him permanently. One detail,
though, threatens to derail her efforts:
sleep—or more accurately, the lack of it.
Since the moment the shocking revelations
about her husband came to light, Natalie’s
insomnia has worsened to the point that
she now suffers from delusions.
Are her fears about Michael valid—or
a symptom of her condition? With her
children’s lives at risk, the stakes for
Natalie could not be higher. On her own,
running low on energy and resources,
avoiding increasingly close calls with
Michael—who is on the hunt and closing
in fast—Natalie needs someone to turn to
for help. But who can she trust when she
can’t even trust herself?
herself back in 1996, reliving her 16th birthday. But it isn’t
just her adolescent body that shocks her, or seeing her high
school crush, it’s her dad: the vital, charming, 40-something
version of her father with whom she is reunited. Now armed
with a new perspective on her own life and his, some past
events take on new meaning. Is there anything that she
By dr. john conde
Evidence-Based Therapy with
High Success Rates for Neuropathy
Painful burning, tingling, and numbness are
words typically used to describe the sensation
experienced by individual suffering with neuropathy.
Neuropathy is a broad, generalized term that denotes damage
or disruption to nerves that carry vital information either
for movement, sensation, or vasculature and organ regulation.
Neuropathy can be classified by its distribution and is broken
down into two major categories; polyneuropathy and mono or focal
neuropathy. Polyneuropathy simply means that multiple areas
are affected simultaneously and mono or focal neuropathy refers to
one region being affected. The most common type of neuropathy is
peripheral neuropathy which is a type of polyneuropathy. Peripheral
neuropathy is characterized by burning, tingling, numbness,
sharp pain, loss of feeling, extreme sensitivity to touch, and lack of
coordination.
There are several causes of peripheral neuropathy. Some of
these include genetic contributions, diabetes, vitamin B12 deficiency,
post-herpetic neuralgia (shingles), infection, alcoholic neuropathy,
drugs, injury to nerves, toxins, uremia (kidney failure),
post-chemotherapy treatment, and idiopathic (spontaneous occurrence).
A thorough examination and medical history is necessary
for accurate diagnosis. Quite often blood work, imaging, and nerve
conduction studies are ordered to determine the precise etiology.
A breakthrough study in the journal of gynecologic oncology has
demonstrated a 90% success rate in the treatment of chemotherapy-
induced peripheral neuropathy with the use of photobiomodulation/class
IV laser therapy. They also found significant improvement
of functional recovery after nerve crush injuries and toxin
exposure with class IV laser therapy.
Class IV laser therapy improves neuropathy by preventing neural
apoptosis and enhancing neurite outgrowth. Basically, this means
that it helps prevent nerve cell death and it promotes the production
of more nerve synapses. It also draws water, oxygen, and nutrients
to the damaged area. During class IV laser therapy the infrared
laser light interacts with tissues at the cellular level and metabolic
activity increases within the cell, improving the transport of nutrients
across the cell membrane. This initiates the production of cellular
energy that leads to a cascade of beneficial effects, increasing
cellular function and health.
The most compelling part is that researchers did not note any
complications with this treatment. This is groundbreaking, evidenced-based
medicine that can be applied immediately to help
this ailing population feel and function better.
Buddy Benefits
Lacking some motivation for your workout these days? A gym buddy
just might be the solution to your workout blues! Here are 5 reasons
why getting your sweat on with a friend will improve your health and
give you that motivation you need to get your gym mojo back!
1. Accountability
It’s one thing to bail on your own workout, but it’s much harder to
ditch a workout when you’re going to be letting your workout buddy
down. In addition to this, having a workout partner means you have
to plan your workouts in advance to meet each other’s schedules,
and once it’s scheduled, it’s much more likely that you’re going to
follow through with it. So when you’re feeling lazy and want to ditch
your workout, having the accountability of a buddy will greatly increase
your chances of making that workout happen!
2. Try New Workouts
Sometimes it can be intimidating walking into a new environment…new
workout, new people etc. That’s where your workout
buddy comes into play! Having a friend with you can make the experience
much less intimidating and definitely a lot more fun!
3. Good Ole Support
Because we’re all human, at some point you’ll probably feel like
throwing in the towel for various reasons. However, the support
from your workout partner will most likely be just what you
need to stay on track. A good workout buddy will be there
to listen to your woes and then to tell you to get your
butt back in the gym, just like any good friend would!
The support you will both offer each other will be immeasurable.
4. Buddy Assessments
It’s difficult to view yourself objectively. When it comes
to your fitness progress, you may not notice how your
strength and endurance is improving or that you’ve lost
weight or gained muscle over time. Your workout buddy can
view you more objectively and remind you of your progress so
far. Having that validation can help bolster your self-esteem and
keep your motivation levels high.
5. Step Up yOur Game
Let’s be honest, we as human beings like to compete with one another.
Having a workout buddy who is just a little fitter, just a little
stronger than you are will keep you on your toes and striving for a
little more in your workout. By trying to keep up with them, you’ll
challenge yourself in ways you didn’t think were possible!
FRONT ROW
Interviewed and written by Emily Peters
photos by Larry Marano and Tom Craig
focus
Larry Marano
Larry Marano wants to portray you in the best light and get on your
good side... however he isn’t vying for friendship. As a celebrity
photographer for over forty years, he has captured some of the
world’s most famous faces and become an expert at doing so.
The right photo can make time travel seemingly possible,
transporting the viewer to anywhere in the world at any
given moment. Immortalizing a split second properly can
conjure the power to inspire and change the course of someone’s
life who hasn’t even been born yet. Larry Marano wasn’t thinking
about any of this when he began photographing his favorite bands
in Queens, New York over four decades ago.
“When I was a kid I went to see Kiss at the Garden in ‘77. My love of
rock music was one thing, but seeing these guys perform - they were
the ultimate rockstars. I didn’t shoot that particular show, but after
that night all I could think about was that I had to capture this world
on film. Before photography became my occupation, I would sneak a
camera into concerts by tucking the equipment into the large inner
pockets of my jean jacket. When Van Halen tickets went on sale, my
friends and I would be there waiting the day before. We’d get good
seats and just shoot the entire performance, because back then a lot
of the shows didn’t have any problems with you doing that. I would
have the negatives developed and keep the photos just for myself... it
wasn’t until ‘85 when I got into the magazines. One night at the Hard
Rock Cafe in New York City, I ran into the guys from Queensrÿche, and
showed them pictures I took from a previous gig of theirs at L’Amour
East. It just so happened the photo editor from Hit Parader was there,
and they in turn presented the photos to her. She said to give her a
call and that was the start of transforming from a fan to professional.”
In fact, it was a photo from one of these shows in 1982 depicting
Eddie Van Halen playing his famed “Frankenstein” guitar, that
became the center of a legal case as The Metropolitan Museum of
Art in New York (The Met) used Marano’s image without consent or
credit. This image was displayed by the museum for the 2019 exhibition,
“Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock and Roll.” Marano sued for
copyright infringement, but was ruled against when a U.S. District
Judge decided that because the museum enjoyed the photograph for
educational purposes, it did not violate copyright law.
“The problem with this outcome is that it doesn’t only affect me,
but all photographers from here on out. It shows that a nonprofit organization
can take your image, whatever it may be... they can use it
and not have to pay royalties or credit you. Something like this sets
a scary precedent for any artist in general. That specific picture has
ended up on t-shirts, posters, etc... and I can’t do anything about it.”
50 | may 2022 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
Over the years, the advent of technology has taken the guessing
game out of the equation, enabling individuals the capacity to check
their photos as soon as the shutter clicks. Photo editing programs have
also allowed for the altering of an image in every way imaginable.
“I think it’s less difficult these days with photoshop, unlike when
shooting film... you have to pretty much be on your exposure. I do like
the ease of it now, but there is something about having tangible rolls
of film and anticipating getting the pictures back. My photos are still
for the most part, what comes out of the camera. I do very minimal,
if any at all tweaking of what I shoot. Back when I first started, I used
a lot of black and white film because I couldn’t afford color... it was
actually a plus in a way because the black and white has a mystique
that’s beyond question. When I captured Guns N’ Roses in 1988 at
The Limelight, that medium added a certain vintage look that can’t
be recreated.”
Most nights these days you can find Larry in the enviable standing
room only area between the first row and stage, often denoted by a
barricade between the cameraman and concert-goer.
“Presently you must have a media pass to shoot, and 90 percent
of the time you only get the first three songs. I understand wanting
to control your image and dutifully respect the performer’s con-
cerns. But live music is sweaty...
that’s all part of the show, and as
a photographer you want to capture
artists in their element. If
this had been a rule in the eighties,
we wouldn’t have been able
to obtain many of the iconic images
now cherished by millions
of people globally. During those
years, it was even normal to hang
backstage after hours. The rock
photographer and the rock band
combined into this one chaotic
lifestyle which just worked... it
was really a cool time.”
Although his forte is with musicians,
Larry isn’t limited strictly
to this genre. “I am currently
freelance, but have been working
as the house photographer
at the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise,
Florida for the past three years.
My photos have been used in
Spin, Rolling Stone, Billboard...
I’ve been in pretty much every
big publication at one point or
another. The New York Post also
uses me regularly to shoot sports
and news related images occurring
in South Florida.”
When asked if there was an artist
on his wish list or any aspect of
his career which could have been
executed differently, the answer
was simple.
“I would love to photograph
Bob Dylan... unfortunately he
doesn’t even let you bring a phone
into his sets nowadays. Looking
back, my only regret is that I
should have utilized more film.
If I had known how this line of
work was going to transpire, and
could have foreseen the ability to
scan negatives... I would have shot
more iconic people in their heyday.
All in all, this industry is perfect
for me. I set my own hours,
show up for work wearing a Ramones
t-shirt, and partake in history
on a daily basis. What’s more
rock and roll than that?”
stitches by the sea
Its raining threads!!
Ten Years of Creativity
and Creation in Delray
By diane feen | photos by melissa korman
The expression is one of stitching and stretching your mind
in sync with artistic canvases and colorful threads. Called
needlepoint, this artistic endeavor is made by hand and embellished
by heart.
Stitches by the Sea is the center of gravity for this age-old tradition
of needlepoint. But its heritage – like many hobbies and endeavors
– has evolved with younger stitchers and new culturally
expressive canvases.
What makes Stitches by the Sea so unique is its lineage. Founder
Judi Alweil’s first needlepoint business was started in her motherin-law’s
house in Long Island in 1968.
It was the perfect business for this creative maven of color and
style. Judi’s artistic bent and teaching degree laid the groundwork
for a thriving business. Her ability to hand-paint needlepoint
canvasses so beautifully made them sought after from all
over the country.
“My father Mac was our first salesperson for our wholesale business
(Gemini) that I started with my partner, Rochelle Weissberg in
1974. Our first big order was for Jordan Marsh and we didn’t have
a system in place to fill the order. Our husbands helped us pack-up
and ship our first large order,” said Judi, whose husband Dick has
been part of the Delray Beach store since its inception.
The business (both wholesale and retail) grew and prospered
in Long Island with Judi designing brilliant canvases and selling
Judi and Karen discussing upcoming projects
If you haven’t been to Stitches by the Sea
in downtown Delray you are missing out on
a colorful garden of artistic expression.
yarns in all fibers and colors. Judi also authored two books (one on
ribbon knitting) and created beautiful needlepoint handbags, pillows,
wall art, totes, belts and other items of earthly existence.
When the Alweil’s moved to South Florida Judi decided to take
up her retail business venture once again. “Karen was doing our
wholesale business in New York, but she moved to Florida to help
us. Business has been so good that Karen has become a vital part of
Stitches by the Sea.”
Women flock to the Delray store from all over the country looking
for beautiful needlepoint accessories and inspiration. Stitches
by the Sea also sells designer canvases that can be made into anything
imaginable.

Judi and her most recent finished project
“Every time I come to Delray I come to Stitches by the Sea,”
said Joanie Risavy. “Their choice of threads and canvases make
it a candy store for me. I make Christmas ornaments, pillows
and other items. I also get personal attention and learn a lot
from Karen.”
Karen is the co-anchor of Stitches by the Sea now. She has
the pedigree combined with the knowledge and love of Social
Media and needlepoint. She was the safe port in the storm for
creative types during Covid and found herself shipping canvasses
and threads all over the country for everyone in quarantine.
“The repetitive motion of needlepoint calms the mind. That’s
why we call Needlepoint…Yoga for the Mind®. Those are words
we live by at Stitches by the Sea. People order our canvasses
from all over the country. We have modern, contemporary, colorful
and whimsical designs that make people happy.”
You bet they do. They sell elaborate landscapes of exotic islands,
colorful famous artist portraits (like Frida Kahlo), bursts
of floral grandiosity, geometrics and whimsical sayings. They
have elegant handbags with handles in bamboo, Lucite and
metal, beach totes, pillows, designer evening bags and more.
On Monday mornings they give live classes on Instagram®
for needlepoint projects. They’re also on Facebook® and have
an online store.
For Judi, needlepoint has been a long and winding road of excitement
and artistic reverie. “I have been fortunate to be able
to take my love of stitching and turn it into a profitable business.
Needlepoint is relaxing and creative. You can take a hand-painted
needlepoint canvas and stitch it in cotton yarn or embellish
it with various stitches and threads in silk ribbon, beads and
silk raffia.”
Needlepoint and Stitches by the Sea is literally a safe port in
any storm. Just ask Arlene Weitzman. “I was in our boat headed
to Baltimore when something broke. We turned around and
come back to Florida. I love Stitches by the Sea because they
have the best canvasses and threads, and they do my finishing.
Judi is creative, kind and a fabulous business woman. And, with
Karen nothing is impossible. This is my happy place.”
It’s everyone’s happy place.
Stark’s Barber Company
Excellence in Men’s Grooming,
Greeting, and Vibe
BY diane feen | photos by melissa korman
Stark’s Barber Company has a vibe all its own.
It’s laid back but not laissez-faire. It’s upbeat,
but not frenetic, and friendly, with no pretence.
Some people call it a modern urban-style shop, but we call it a
quintessential timeless Delray Beach barber shop.
For three years Jason Stark has been the leader – and owner
– of this quiet epicenter of men’s grooming. The shop is in a small
quaint building in Pineapple Grove that defines itself by character
and integrity – just like the Stark namesake.
Their loyal customers all say the same thing – they love the
professionalism and talent of the barbers, and the clean laid-back
atmosphere.
That was the master plan.
“We are so much more than just a barbershop. This is a place
where you can kick back with a complimentary beverage, watch a
game, and reinvent your style. Our unique atmosphere makes everyone
feel right at home,” said Jason.
You bet they do. Just ask Michael Edwards who goes to Stark’s exclusively
for haircuts. “Alejandro is the best barber in Delray Beach.
He takes his time and pays attention to detail. He makes sure the
cut is perfect; my fade is a clean sleek cool look.”
Alejandro is a legend at Stark’s – and in the area of hair design.
The Costa Rican born stylist who hails from LA is a natural when it
56 | may 2022 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
comes to hair design in any shape or form (though graffiti is most
popular). His work is precision based and his attention to detail
would make an artist blush.
“We can confidently say that we will give you the best haircut
you’ve ever had,” adds Jason.
One way they accomplish this is by taking continuing education
classes and attending trade shows that highlight current cutting
techniques and products.
You could say that Craig is the beneficiary of all this grooming wisdom
and hair perfection. Sitting under the Halo LED ring light, you
can see the signs of satisfaction on Craig’s face and the relaxed demeaner
of his body, that he is a happy man.
And he has good reason. “I have known Jason for nine or 10 years.
He’s the only person I will let cut my hair. Everyone here is so professional,
this is the best place in South Florida for men’s grooming.”
That’s the beauty of this emporium of good taste and “cool” existence.
Everyone loves the atmosphere and the laid-back non-hustle
vibe. But the services excel where other shops may fail.
Kim Foreman can attest to that fact. “Stark’s is the best Barber shop
in Delray Beach! My man comes home every Saturday looking fresh.
He has been having his hair cut there since the day the shop opened.
I’d highly recommend it if you’re looking for the best cut around!”
The shop is also made up of barbers who retain their individuality
yet have a unique character of their own.
COPYRIGHTED

Take Jade, for instance. The stylist who came from Brooklyn 10
years ago looks like a rock star and is considered one by her clients.
Her background is in cosmetology, and she found her true passion
in men’s grooming.
Jade enjoys the eclectic mix of clients at Stark’s and is popular with
clients of all ages. “This is an awesome shop that has a great vibe to it.
I cut a lot of younger clients who want long hair and are nervous that
someone will cut their hair too short.”
Jade is adamant that she also does fade cuts, classic, and business
cuts, and is very accommodating to all client’s preference in style or
cut. “I know how to make sure the client gets the cut they want.”
It’s easy to enjoy being at Stark’s, aside from the terrific artwork
and talent of each barber. There is eclectic Bansky artwork on the
exposed brick walls, five large flat screen TV’s, a comfy quartz bar
area for doing work or trolling your iPhone. There’s also a permissive
attitude that makes everyone feel comfortable and accepted.
“Everyone can express themselves and get the grooming of their
choice. We aim to please our clients,” adds Jason.
Part of that equation is with the newest team member Ray. A former
Barber instructor, Ray is passionate about being a barber and is
smitten with Stark’s eclectic mix of clients and staff.
They also have a collection of natural shave products for people
with sensitive skin, as well as excellent trimmers.
Are you a Florida licensed barber or cosmetologist? Can you do
a Skin/Bald fade and are dedicated and creative? Stark’s is looking
for you.
Come to Stark’s and walk out with a smile on your face and a
great style!
In addition to abiding to CDC guidelines which include keeping
every other piece of cardio equipment and distancing equipment,
and discontinuing towel service, extra measures have been
taken that include:
- Every staff member’s temperature will be taken before the start
of their shift and all staff wears the appropriate PPE while interacting
with members. In addition, the entire team participates in
our increased cleaning and sanitation schedule, ensuring the entire
facility is disinfected multiple times per day.
- Temperature checks for every member who is looking to enter
We now know, those at the highest risk populations for getting
COVID-19 are individuals older than 65 years and/or with pre-existing
conditions. Although we cannot turn back the clock, there
are two ways Purlife can step in – and that is consistent exercise
and adequate nutritional choices. Guess what the best way is to
prevent falling into a high-risk category? Making healthy lifestyle
choices so you do not get a condition to begin with! Even so, exercise
has been shown and proven beneficial for older adults and
people with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, arthritis,
or heart disease. Regular exercise is essential for everyone under
normal circumstances. However, here are a few more reasons why
exercise is especially crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic:
• Boosts immune system: research shows that regular, moderate-intensity
exercise has immune-boosting benefits that can help
your body fight off infections, including COVID-19.
• Weight maintenance: Offset the effects of sedentary activities
and burn off those extra calories you may have been consuming
during the lockdown.
• Reduces stress and anxiety: a proven mood-booster and can
help adults reduce stress levels and build emotional resilience.
• Improves sleep: There is evidence that suggests regular exercise
helps you fall asleep faster and improves sleep quality — and getting a
good night’s sleep has also been found to boost your immune system.
Regular exercise improves balance, flexibility, strength, mobility,
and cardiovascular health. Plus, it can boost energy and overall
well-being. Not sure what to do or how to do it? Ask for one of
our highly qualified staff and personal trainers who will guide you
with proper form, creating exercise regiments specific to the individual’s
needs and past history.
We at Purlife are dedicated and committed to not only your fitness,
but to your health and safety. We understand that there are
those of you who may be hesitant to venture back out into the “new
normal.” Whether you are revving to go, on the fence, or hesitant,
we can whole-heartedly say that we have taken every possible precaution
and made every effort to make everyone comfortable and
safe. We did not focus on “What If,” we focused on what we CAN do!
Lindsey Mygatt and CuRTIS Bennett
Fast Furious
and Smart
Real Estate Pros
BY diane feen | photos by Christine Magee
There is a saying that if you choose
a job you love, you will never have
to work a day in your life.
Lindsey Mygatt and Curtis Bennett haven’t worked a day in their
lives. Instead, the dynamic duo spends their days enthralled
with the real estate business, helping clients purchase the perfect
home or sell a property that no longer serves them.
60 | may 2022 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
“We want our clients to experience and feel energized by our enthusiasm
and passion for real estate. We love what we do for a living.”
And who doesn’t want to work with someone who loves what they do?
Good point, and one that is not often spoken about candidly. But
working with these two dynamos in the real estate industry is a
win-win for everyone. Their passion and drive for excellence is apparent
the moment you meet them.
Lindsey is a marketing wiz and has the enthusiasm usually
marked for show business. Curtis is a finance maven who is quick
with numbers and has answers to vexing problems related to mortgages,
titles, and just the home buying process overall.
The two of them have their hand on the pulse of the Palm Beach
County real estate market and are quick to lead clients to their
dream property. They’re also patient and delve deep into client’s
specifications for property.
“Lindsey and Curtis were everything we hoped they would be to
help us search for the perfect home. They were attentive and quick
to reply. They were kind and sweet when my fiancé and I were
picky with each home. I’d recommend Lindsey and Curtis to everyone!”
said Chris.
Currently the market is moving faster than a bullet train, but that
doesn’t faze Lindsey and Curtis. They tackle this challenge head on.
The reason is that real estate is in their DNA. Lindsey’s family
has been in the real estate business in Colorado since she was a
youngster, and Curtis’ family has been in real estate development
in Connecticut for many years.
COPYRIGHTED

Both have families that live and breathe the real estate business. That
passion was passed on to them at an early age and is the reason Lindsey
and Curtis are rising stars only eclipsed by their drive and initiative.
Coldwell Banker Realty named them “Top 30 Real Estate Agents
Under the age of 30” for excelling in driving sales, serving clients,
and giving back to their community. They also received the 2021
International President’s Circle Award at Coldwell Banker Realty,
putting them at the top 7% of the company internationally.
The two are humble as they are smart and driven, with statistics
that back up their intelligent approach to real estate. They closed
over $20 million in sales in the last 15 months and $7 million + in
the last three months.
There is no mystery to their success – it’s hard work and a passion
for helping clients reach the zenith of their real estate aspirations.
“Our experience with Lindsey and Curtis was nothing shy of exceptional.
From day one, they were inquisitive of our desires. They
were accommodating and knowledgeable about the market. We got
a leg up because of their due diligence and willingness to show us
a myriad of homes. We highly recommend working with the South
Ocean Group,” said Chris and Megan.
Their “can do” attitude - combined with hard work – is on a continuous
loop for clients. That’s why their success with clients is
overwhelmingly positive.
“We work 365 days a year and if our clients need anything, we
are there. In a competitive and fast paced market like today it’s important
that we work incredibly quick for our clients.”
There is another advantage to their close adherence to excellence.
Both Lindsey and Curtis are involved in every transaction
from start to finish. Their goal is to make the process as stress free
as possible for their clients.
“We are involved in the entire process – initial meetings, showings,
inspections, closings; you name it, we are there. It’s very important
for us to be hands-on and available for our clients throughout
the whole process. We are proud to have great relationships
with local vendors, which makes the home buying process as seamless
as possible for our clients.”
Chris and Megan found this out firsthand. “You won’t find a better
team or have a more seamless experience with any other realtor.
If you’re looking for someone to help guide you through the
process of buying your next home, you’ll be extremely glad you’ve
chosen Curtis and Lindsey.”
Because the real estate market is moving so swiftly right now,
they know they need an advantage over the competition. That’s
why Lindsey and Curtis put an emphasis on smart marketing, fierce
negotiating skills, and great customer service. In this lightning
speed market, it gives their clients a huge advantage.
Lindsey and Curtis are adamant they leave no rock unturned when
it comes to marketing their listings. “That is how we help our clients
mother’s day in delray beach
Celebrating Mom
“It’s not easy being a mother.
If it were easy, fathers would do it.”
By Linda brown
We agree with the Golden Girls -
so here are a few ideas on how
to make Mother’s Day special...
Shopping
While flowers, food, and greeting cards are
a given, you’ll also want to make sure you take
care of Mom with a beautiful gift.
We recommend that you shop local this
Mother’s Day. There is no need to venture out
of Delray to find jewelry, fragrances, fashion,
and more. In a shameless plug, we urge you to
use Atlantic Ave Magazine for ideas and deals.
And when shopping locally tell them we sent
you!
Dining options
There’s no shortage of options for
a memorable Mother’s Day brunch,
lunch, or dinner in Delray. Frankly,
you cannot go wrong taking Mom
to any restaurant in All America
City. However, we recommend
making a reservation. Delray’s
culinary reputation makes it a
Mother’s Day hub so early reservations
are a must to guarantee a
wonderful experience.
The good news is Delray offers
all sorts of options: beachside
dining, downtown sophistication,
ethnic cuisine, garden views, golf
course views—it’s all right here.
But if Mom would prefer to dine
at home, take-out from any of our
local restaurant – or…visit the Delray Green-
Market at Old School Square, and pick up fresh
local produce and make Mom a home-cooked
meal! Started in 1996 by the Community Redevelopment
Agency, the GreenMarket has
become one of the most popular and charming
aspects of “the season” in Delray Beach.
At the GreenMarket you will find more than
65 premier food vendors featuring farm-tofork
produce, just picked citrus, tropical fruit
and juice, farm fresh eggs, raw milk and butter,
artisan cheese and jams, fragrant baked goods,
plenty of gluten-free, vegan and organic products,
fresh cut flowers, plants and other unique
gourmet fare along with live musical entertainment
each Saturday. The GreenMarket is at
Old School Square Saturdays from 9am to 2pm
State of the City
Infrastructure Planning In Full Swing this Spring
James T Lee, Congresswoman Lois Frankel, Hassan HaDJImiry, and
Mayor Shelly PeTROLIa Tour the City’s Water Plant in February 2022
Planning for a New Plant
The City’s new water treatment plant, estimated to be completed
in 2026, is just one of approximately 75 capital improvement
projects we have in the pipeline. While we are only in the planning
stages, I am very excited about this project because it will ensure a
state-of-the-art water treatment process, advance the City’s monitoring
and control systems, improve water pressure, and serve our
future needs.
Strengthening our InfraSTRucture
Our city has already been awarded $10.9 Million from the federal
government’s American Rescue Plan Act and we are hopeful that
more funding will be awarded as a result of the Bipartisan Infrastructure
Law. These funds will help ensure we can improve the quality,
safety, and reliability of our infrastructure systems to increase our
sustainability. In addition to the water plant project, we have dozens
of other projects addressing everything from roadway safety and accessibility
to seawall and beach nourishment. Please visit www.delraybeach.gov
to view the complete 2022-2026 Capital Improvement
Project Program.
Employee hIghlight - Deon Bass
Deon is an engineering inspector
for the Public Works Department,
and is responsible for inspecting
large-scale Capital Improvement
Program construction projects.
Whether it be on the job or
out in the community, Deon
goes the extra mile. He takes
calls and answers emails after
hours and each year he personally
raises funds to buy toys for
children in need. During the 2021
holiday season Deon raised $2,600.
Florida Stormwater Association
Excellence aWard 2022
I am proud to report that our city received the “Florida Stormwater
Association Excellence Award for 2022.” Annual recipients are selected
through a highly competitive, peer-review process for demonstrating
creativity, innovation and excellence in local water quality and
programs and projects. Our city’s Stormwater Master Plan was created
in 1993 and is updated every five years. This plan uses modelling
of watershed basins and integrated sea level rise projections to identify
problem areas and prioritize capital improvement projects for the
next 30 years to address water resource issues, including drainage
problems, street flooding, tidal flooding, inadequate infrastructure,
stormwater quality and recharge. A total of 14 problem areas have
been identified and a total of $378M in construction projects are recommended
for 30-year capital improvement program planning.
Sea Turtles on Delray’s beaches
Every year from March 1 - Oct. 31, sea turtles come
ashore to lay eggs on our beaches. Artificial lighting can
cause hatchlings to become disoriented which can prevent
them from finding their way to the ocean. We can
help sea turtles by ensuring no direct or indirect light is
visible from our beach. Do your part to help sea turtles
safely get back to the ocean- keep your distance from nesting
turtles by moving your chairs and cabanas to the sandy
foot of the dune each night.

Exploring Our
Great National Parks
BY Lisa Marie
With over 420 National Park Sites in USA, across more than 84
million acres there are 63 that have been selected by Congress
as especially important. This month we explore six of the
lesser-known National Parks and indulge in their sheer beauty
and diversity. These are among our nation’s true treasures!
Voyageurs national park
Voyageurs
Straddling the Minnesota-Canadian border, this relatively quiet
park has no entrance fees and no roads! With 218,000 acres, water
makes up one-third of this natural wonder. You’ll leave your car
at one of the three visitor centers but No car = No problem! You can
navigate the 4 main lakes (Rainy, Kabetogama, Namakan, and Sand
Point) plus the 26 smaller interior lakes by renting a houseboat,
take a guided boat or canoe tour, a ranger led paddle, water taxi or
bring your own boat. If land is more your thing, then relish in an array
of wonderful hiking trails on offer. A taster of the hikes available;
Cruiser Lake Trail is a tough 9.5 miles, but there is a chance of spotting
a moose or hearing the howl of a wolf. Blind Ash Trail Park, an
easy 2.5-mile loop takes you through the boreal forest, with exceptional
scenery. The 2.5-mile Echo Bay trail is great for bird watchers.
Binoculars are a must! Accommodation within the park is only
available by water. Kettle Falls Hotel is the only non-camping option
with camping (tents only) or houseboats as the alternative. One extra
special sight that you might capture is The Aurora Borealis (Northern
Lights), intermittent but a possibility. Visit www.nps.gov/voya.
Shenandoah
Located in western Virginia and just 75 miles from Washington,
D.C., this 200,000-acre park extends for more
than 100 miles along the Blue Ridge Mountains. Start by taking
the only public road through the park, the Skyline Drive
which runs 105 miles north and south along the crest of the
Blue Ridge Mountains and gives you panoramic views along
the way. Shenandoah has over 500 miles of hiking trails with
a section including the long-distance Appalachian Trail. With
an expanse forest, you can expect to be entranced by cascading
waterfalls, breezy summits with spectacular vistas, rocky
peaks, and an abundance of wildlife. These protected lands
are home to deer, squirrels, black bear and many bird species.
Nestled in the heart of Shenandoah National Park, you
will find multiple lodging options that cater to different tastes
and needs, from comfortable and elegant to rustic and quaint.
All lodging facilities in Shenandoah National Park are operated
by Delaware North, the Park concessionaire. Visit www.
Channel Islands national park
Shenandoah national park
Channel Islands
Channel Islands National Park and Marine Sanctuary in California,
nicknamed ‘North America’s Galapagos’ is a chain of five islands
along the Santa Barbara Channel - Santa Cruz, Anacapa, Santa
Rosa, Santa Barbara, and San Miguel. This NP is rich with untouched
natural beauty and home to over 2,000 plant and animal species,
including 30 marine mammal species including dolphins, elephant
seals and the largest in the world, blue whales. Visiting here will take
advanced planning. The mainland visitor centers are in Santa Barbara
and Ventura, accessible by car but the islands require transport
by park concessionaire boats, private boats and planes. On arrival
in this magnificent haven there are few amenities. No Wi-Fi forces
you to breathe in and admire the nature and really enjoy the scenery.
Camping is available year-round but is primitive and small in numbers,
and once on the island you must get there on foot, carrying all
supplies. Whether it’s a day trip or a week, there are plenty of things
to see and do on the islands. Escape the congestion and indulge in
snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, birdwatching or just relaxing. Planning
is essential so please visit www.nps.gov/chis.
Great Basin
Traveling along The Loneliest Road in America to get to this National
Park located on the border of eastern Nevada and western
Utah, its situated in the Great Basin Desert. One of the highlights
is the Wheeler Peak scenic drive. A 12-mile drive hugging the South
Snake Range, you will find yourself heading into the clouds to over
10,000 feet above sea level, with the summit at 13,065. You will
be met with far reaching vistas and panoramic views of the pine
forests, lower mountains, lakes and the desert below you. Lehman
Caves is another ‘must-do.’ Only allowing entry with a guided tour,
you will be met by familiar cave formations, stalagmites stalactites,
columns, draperies, flowstone and soda straws but the caves are
most famous for their abundance of shields. This park also attracts
people interested in birdwatching, stargazing and wildflowers.
Hiking one of the 25 trails will also give you amazing views. Recommendations
are Bristlecone and Glacier Trail to see the glacier,
moraine and the bristle cones and the Alpine Lakes Trail for lakes,
meadows, woodlands, spruce, aspen and pines! There are no lodging
facilities in the park, but the community of Baker, 5 miles east
of the park entrance, has several places to stay including motels,
B&B’s, cabins and more. Camping is allowed inside the National
Park but is extremely limited. This is the least visited National Park
and consequently there are fewer people offering almost no litter
and tranquil, quiet trails. Visit www.nps.gov/grba.
Great Sand Dunes
This National Park and Preserve is in southern Colorado. As the
name depicts, it is known for its huge sand dunes, the tallest,
Star Dune at 750 feet high. Year round, visitors can sled down the
dunes descending into the soft sand at the bottom. When Sangre
de Cristo Mountains begin melting into Medano Lake and flowing
around the basin of the area’s dunes, it turns into a vast outdoor
waterslide and most unique beaches for its visitors. It’s no secret
that National Parks host some of the darkest skies in the country. In
some areas of the Great Sand Dunes National Park, it’s possible to
see up to 15,000 stars throughout the night. Stargazing at its best!
There is no lodging inside the park but at the entrance you will find
Great Sand Dunes Lodge, an excellent alternative to those not wanting
to pitch a tent. There are several options for camping inside the
park, mostly on a first-come-first-served basis. If you enjoy fishing,
hiking or photography this might be the National Park for you. Visit
Katmai
Sitting on a peninsula in southern Alaska and 260 miles southwest
of Anchorage this is a true wilderness destination! It
was designated a national monument after the eruption of Novarupta
in 1912 which formed the Valley of 10,000 Smokes. It
became a National Park in 1980. Unconnected to any town by
road it is only accessible by boat or floatplane, so planning is
essential. The greatest attraction for visitors is that it is home
to about 2,000 brown bears that are drawn to Brooks Falls for
the abundance of sockeye salmon. You can get great views and
photos from the lookout platforms at Brooks Camp. There are
other locations that offer bear watching opportunities in season.
In the month of June, Hallo Bay and Swikshak Lagoon are
a good bet. Always have your camera at the ready as you might
also spot moose, caribou, wolf, waterfowl, bald eagles, whales
and seals. Katmailand, Inc. is the only National Park Service authorized
concessioner in Katmai, offering overnight accommodations
and food and beverage service based at Brooks Lodge
and Grosvenor Lodge. They also offer guided sport fishing, gifts
and merchandise, outdoor recreation equipment rental, public
showers, ground transportation and sightseeing, and camper
drop-off services. The park’s visitor center at Brooks Camp is
open seasonally from June 1 through mid-September and guests
can sign up for ranger-led tours of the Valley of 10,000 Smokes
or a walking tour to learn the human history of the Brooks River
Archeological District. Visit www.nps.gov/katm.
Looking Back
MAY in History
By Lewis David
Looking back at important dates that
took place in the month of May both
here in America and across the globe.
May 1, 1960
Soviet Air Defense Forces shot down American U-2 spy plane flying
at 60,000 feet over Sverdlovsk in central Russia. Francis Gary
Powers, the pilot, parachuted to safety but was captured, convicted,
and sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Russian court. The incident
caused a cancellation of a meeting between President Dwight
D. Eisenhower and Nikita Khrushchev and heightening the existing
Cold War tensions. Two years later Powers was exchanged for Soviet
spy Rudolf Abel.
May 2, 2011
U.S. Special Operations Forces raided an al-Qaeda compound
in Abbottabad, Pakistan killing the world’s most wanted terrorist,
Osama bin Laden. The entire operation, which lasted only 40
minutes from start to finish, was the culmination of years of calculated
planning and training and SEAL Team Six was credited with
accomplishing the mission flawlessly. After the attack, President
Obama addressed the nation. “For over two decades, bin Laden has
been al Qaeda’s leader and symbol, and has continued to plot attacks
against our country and our friends and allies. The death of
bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our
nation’s effort to defeat al Qaeda. Yet his death does not mark the
end of our effort. There’s no doubt that al Qaeda will continue to
pursue attacks against us. We must - and we will - remain vigilant
at home and abroad.”
Call to Justice
If you were stranded in a
lifeboat you would want
Gary Ferreri on board.
The Delray Beach Police Lieutenant has the know-how to get
you to safety, the compassion to understand what you’re going
through, and the leadership skills to get you to safety.
A tall order for anyone, but Lieutenant Ferreri is up to any task,
be it large or small.
When he was doing “Problem Oriented Policing” he went door
to door in high crime areas and asked residents about problems
or pressing issues. His goal was to resolve issues and come up
with solutions.
That’s because Lt. Ferreri is a solutions kind of guy.
When he was project manager for getting an ice cream truck for
the city, he reached out and made it happen. “I made a few calls and
very soon we had a brand-new van from Greco Ford. All the money
was donated; we didn’t use any city money,” said the Long Island
native who moved to Coral Springs as a teenager.
The ice cream truck is one of the sweeter things that Ferreri has
done, but not nearly the sum total. He has been a calming helpful
presence for kids and teens in Delray donning a Santa suit during
Covid and bringing them presents on holidays. He has mentored
young people when they needed a helping hand (or advice) and is a
stellar example of leadership, kindness and professionalism.
When you mention the name Gary Ferreri the accolades build up
like high rises in South Florida. “Gary Ferreri serves as an exemplary
leader, not only in our Police Department, but in our city. He far
exceeds the standard of Community Policing and has made giving
back to the community part of his life, not just part of his role with
the DBPD,” said Jordana Jarjura, President of Menin Development.
You bet he has. As a sergeant he was in charge of the Youth
Explorer Program. The kids not only learned about law enforcement,
but Ferreri made sure they learned life skills as well. “We
brought in a banker to teach the children about saving money,
credit cards, and investing. We also brought in business leaders.
We taught them how to dress for a job interview, how to write a
resumé and helped them get jobs.”
Ferreri was also instrumental in putting together the Backpack
Giveaway. Ferreri is quick to note that it took a village to create
these programs. “Volunteers stuffed the bags, and with the assistance
of Perry DonFrancisco (from Delray Citizens for Delray Police)
and Chuck Halberg, we were able to raise money from residents
and businesses to purchase backpacks and supplies.”
Another project he was lead manager of was “National Night Out.”
Over 3000 people came to celebrate life, love, and Delray. “This free
event was about breaking barriers and creating new relationships
in the community. There were local resources, music, great food,
and everyone came together from the city. It was a team effort.”
Bringing people together is a central theme in Ferreri’s life, and
his career. He is always ready to put a team together, raise funds,
and create events, safety programs, and more.
Ferreri may not talk about his accomplishments, but others do.
“Gary is a Delray Beach hero to many. His communication skills,
compassion, empathy, and integrity for those he serves (and works
with) are key to being a great police officer. Gary he is a true leader
who lives by these values,” said Chuck Halberg.
Ferreri currently works as the Night Time Watch Commander
running the Police Department from 5pm to 5am. He is responsible
for operation of the department – including nightly operations,
staffing, and making sure the officers have necessary resources.
When asked when he sleeps, he shrugs his shoulders and says,
“when I can.”
One gets the feeling that being a police lieutenant and officer of
the people is all-encompassing nourishment for this 15-year veteran
of the police force.
In the years since Ferreri stepped into his uniform it’s been a
steady climb up the ladder of commendation. He started in Road
Patrol, then POP, Detective Bureau, Crimes Against Violence and
Property, Clean and Safe Unit, Community Response, Criminal Investigations,
Internal Affairs, labor management, and more.
At the detective bureau he was investigating violent crimes and
a new terrain. “At that time the heroin epidemic was at its height. I
was then promoted to Sergeant.”
As a Sergeant Ferreri worked the night shift and oversaw a squad
of officers. From there he moved into Internal Affairs, that he credits
as one of the greatest learning experiences of his life.
From IA he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the
night shift. But Ferreri is definitely more than an employee of the
DBPD. He is a looming presence for goodness and gratefulness. “I
have had a fulfilling career here. I’ve had the opportunity to mentor
and enjoy relationships with the people I work with and people in
the community. We have a great community.”
The feeling goes both ways. “Officer Ferreri has a heart of gold.
He mentored so many children. When my foster children see him,
they light up like they’re seeing Santa Claus,” said Christie Gross.
Former Mayor Jeff Perlman calls Gary one of a kind. “He’s a model
officer because he brings so much of himself to the job. He truly
cares about the community and that sincerity endears him to the
people of Delray. This is more than a job for Gary. It’s a calling.”
You bet it is.
Law enforcement and creating space for goodness to grow is definitely
a calling for Ferreri. It’s one that has garnered him awards,
while at the same time nourished his love of being of service.
“Some of my proudest moments were being able to help and
comfort people when they were at the lowest points in their life.”
Everyone who knows Ferreri is proud of this soft-spoken leader
who relishes his partnership with other officers, city employees
and community stakeholders.
Homemade Food Made to Please You
IL CONTADINO RISTORANTE
Michel Menna is a people
pleaser – in a foodie kind of way.
He dotes on his customers with homemade Italian fare at his
intimate restaurant in Pineapple Grove.
The restaurant, Il Contadino is a place where people
come to celebrate holidays, birthdays or just want to luxuriate in
the pampering and power of a homemade Italian meal.
Menna likes when his patrons call ahead to tell him what foods
they prefer. That way he has time to create the perfect version of
their favorite dishes with élan.
82 | may 2022 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
Veal Siciliana
Ken Chiarella came to Il Contadino with his mother Marilyn
(who was celebrating a milestone birthday) and three of his
friends. All are snowbirds and find themselves smitten with the
culinary prowess of Menna.
“Michel puts out food that is second to none. Everything is personalized
and fresh, and the flavors are distinct and amazing. Every
time we come here, he asks us what we want, and then he
prepares it beautifully.”
When Ken’s mom Marilyn asked for lamb chops for her birthday
dinner, Menna didn’t have them. But within an hour they
mysteriously appeared in front of her with all the trimmings. She
beamed with delight as her son looked on with amazement and
accolades fit for a prince.
“I have been to the best restaurants in New York and Italy and
Michel is as good as all of them. I always tell the truth; this place
is amazing.”
Others feel the same way. “Do not walk past this place when you
visit downtown Delray. If you’re a true foodie tell Owner/Chef Michel
you want to try the meatball first and you will be blown away!
Then enjoy dinner and very fine wines! Support your local chef,
there’s no one better!”
Some of the dishes that Ken and his guests (Sam and Judy Maruca)
had are steeped in Italian tradition and prepared artfully and
tastefully. They raved about the artichoke hearts basted in garlic
with a wine sauce, sprinkled with Reggiano cheese. As lovers of
homemade Italian food, the group feasted on Zuppa di Mussels in
a light tomato sauce with clam broth, as well as Cowboy Rib-Eye
Peperonata with peppers, onions, tomatoes and mushrooms in a
red tomato sauce.
Cooking has been a passion of Menna’s since he was a tot. When
his parents were away, he would go into the kitchen and create
gourmet dishes for them. “My parents would come home and say,
‘who catered this meal.’ I could barely reach the stove, but I loved
cooking, it’s always been my creative outlet.”
His guests can tell. “This pasta made me feel like I was in Italy.
We have been here so many times and it’s always wonderful,” said
Maruca. His wife Judy was all smiles as the spaghetti with anchovies,
garlic, olive oil, and breadcrumbs came to the table.
One of Menna’s finest dishes is his tequila tortellini, prepared
tableside in a flame-lit pan that sparks the tequila to adhere to the
creamy light sauce. Add that to the peas, prosciutto, and Reggiano
cheese, and you have a delicious pasta that hails from the greats.
It seems Michel is always on the prowl for new dishes and new
experiences. After all, he has been in the restaurant business for 40
years. Just recently he tasted potato latkes from another restaurant.
Not impressed he quickly got out his frying pan and tried his hand
at this ethnic dish. What he came up with is a potato latke lover’s
dream. Tasty, crispy, and fresh, they seemed to disappear as quick as
they came to the table. He also added sour cream to the center fold.
For Marilyn’s birthday, Menna cooked up a rack of lamb with
roasted garlic and rosemary. It was a dream dish, she said. And she
ought to know. The Boynton Beach resident cooked delicious authentic
Italian meals for her family for years.
For Michel time does not stop. Though the restaurant business
has been hard hit by the pandemic he continues to experiment in
new ways to please guests. “I will be open for breakfast if people
want me to. I make great omelets with fresh vegetables and other
style egg dishes. People just have to call me.”
Menna is also making fresh pizzas with all the trimmings of the
pizza heritage. There is a difference between pizza and homemade
pizza, and Michel wants to show everyone the difference. Also
new at Il Contadino are fresh paninis and wraps with meats, fresh
cheese, lettuce and tomato.
Other outstanding dishes are Pork Osso Bucco that is braised all
day with tomatoes and vegetables as well Mozzarella En Carrozza.
If you are a fish lover, try the whole Branzini, baked with garlic and
wine, delicately cooked.
If you are celebrating a special occasion Menna will prepare
Cowboy Ribeye Steak Pepperonata
homemade dishes for as many people can fit inside this intimate
space. He also has over a thousand different wines from around the
globe waiting to be opened.
The Chiaprella and Maruca clan had a bottle of Napa Valley Eagle
Eye red wine that was divine. Full-bodied and smooth to the palate,
it was an excellent choice. Whatever your wine preference is,
Menna will make it happen.
That might be another reason people love dining there. “Michael
and his staff take the farm to table concept to new heights. I had
Eggplant Napoleon, wow. A fresh and delicious take on eggplant
rollatini. His presentation of veal cutlet with eggplant gave new life
to an old favorite – it was amazing. Topped it off with cannoli and
cappuccino. Best ever. This place is the real deal,” said Doug.
It’s comments like Doug’s that makes Michel smile. It is also what
makes his passion flame – not only table side – but inside his heart.
Mother’s Day
84 | May may 2022 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
RECIPES
On Mom’s special day let her sleep in and make a showstopping
brunch or bring her breakfast in bed! She will definitely
appreciate taking the day off. Here are a few recipes to plan a
great meal. And don’t forget to add a sweet treat or dessert.
Raspberry Sunrise Mimosa
This beautiful drink is the perfect fancy treat for Mother’s Day.
Extra points for serving it to her in bed.
ingredients
10 ounces fresh raspberries
1/2 cup grenadine, chilled
2 cups pulp-free orange juice, chilled
One 750-milliliter bottle sparkling dry white wine, chilled
Special equipment: A 12-cube ice cube tray, preferably one that
makes square cubes; a freezer-safe pitcher; a large serving spoon
directions
1. Make the ice: Fill each compartment of a 12-cube ice
tray about a third of the way up with water and freeze
until solid, about 1 hour. Puree half of the raspberries
in a food processor until smooth. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons
of puree to each cube compartment, coming about another
third of the way up the side. Freeze solid, about 1
hour. Top off each compartment with water and freeze
until solid, another hour.
2. Make the cocktail: Carefully pour the grenadine
into a large freezer-safe pitcher so that the grenadine
doesn’t splash sides. Freeze until the grenadine is very
cold and thick, about 30 minutes. Place a large serving
spoon in the pitcher, holding it so the tip of the bowl
touches the side of the pitcher just above the grenadine
line. Slowly pour the orange juice into the bowl
of the spoon, filling it up and letting the orange juice
overflow run on top of the grenadine without mixing.
Slowly bring the spoon up as the orange juice level
rises. Using the same technique, add the sparkling
wine, stopping after you’ve poured about half of the
bottle to let the fizz subside. Continue pouring, slowly
bringing the spoon up as the wine level rises. Top with
half of the remaining raspberries.
3. To serve, stir to combine the cocktail in the pitcher.
Add the prepared ice cubes to Champagne flutes.
Fill with the cocktail and top off with the remaining
raspberries.
Dress up the classic Champagne brunch drink! Add a pretty-inpink
spin with a mix of blood orange and pineapple juices — and
decorating the glasses with sanding sugar.
Flakey sea salt
12 toasted baguette slices
Crispy
Breakfast
Pita
A pizza-style breakfast using
pita bread topped with
cheese, prosciutto, spinach,
and a fried egg.
ingredients
6 6-inch pita breads
Extra-virgin olive oil
6 large eggs
3/4 cup (6 oz) mascarpone cheese
Grated zest of 1/2 large lemon
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
3 packed cups (3 oz) arugula or baby spinach
8 ounces thinly sliced prosciutto
directions
Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat
or preheat a gas or charcoal grill. Brush
each side of the pita breads with 1/2 teaspoon
olive oil and grill 2 to 3 minutes on
each side, until crisp. Remove from the
grill and cool slightly. In a large skillet,
heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over mediumhigh
heat. Crack the eggs directly into the
pan and cook until the egg whites are set,
2 to 3 minutes. Combine the mascarpone
cheese, lemon zest, 1/2 teaspoon
salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper in a small
bowl. In a medium bowl, whisk together
3 tablespoons olive oil, the lemon juice, 1
teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper
until smooth. Add the arugula and toss
until coated. Spread each pita with 2
tablespoons of the mascarpone mixture.
Divide the prosciutto on top. Divide the
arugula and mound on top of the prosciutto.
Carefully place a fried egg on top
of each pita. Season the eggs with a pinch
of salt and pepper and serve.
How Can I Keep My Pets
Healthy Naturally?
BY Bill Piechocki and Dr. Diane Sudduth, DVM
The health and longevity of our pets is dependent on a strong immune
system which is fueled by a clean, natural species appropriate
diet. In addition to achieve a clean and appropriate diet, it
is vital that their exposure to toxic and physiologically destructive substances
be kept to a minimum. Unfortunately, exposure to these substances
can be found in commercially processed foods, medications,
cleaning, and lawn products, as well as the air pets breathe resulting in
a plethora of symptoms. Among these symptoms are allergies, chronic
conditions such as ear, anal gland, skin and respiratory infections, seizures,
and even death.
The liver is a key to all health. As the main filtering organ, the liver
needs to be healthy to function properly. The liver is an essential organ of
the body that performs over 500 vital functions. Included functions range
from removing waste products and foreign substances from the bloodstream,
regulating blood sugar levels, and creating essential nutrients.
Here are some of the liver’s most principal functions:
• Albumin Production: Albumin is a protein that keeps fluids in the
bloodstream from leaking into surrounding tissue. It also carries hormones,
vitamins, and enzymes throughout the body.
• Bile Production: Bile is a fluid that is critical to the digestion and
absorption of fats in the small intestine.
• Filters Blood: All the blood leaving the stomach and intestines
passes through the liver, which removes toxins, byproducts, and other
harmful substances.
• Regulates Amino Acids: The production of proteins depends on
amino acids. The liver controls amino acid levels in the bloodstream to
remain healthy.
• Regulates Blood Clotting: Blood clotting coagulants are created by
using vitamin K, which can only be absorbed with the help of bile, a fluid
that the liver produces.
• Resists Infections: As part of the filtering process, the liver also removes
bacteria from the bloodstream.
• Stores Vitamins and Minerals: The liver stores significant amounts
of vitamins A, D, E, K, and B12, as well as iron and copper.
• Processes Glucose: The liver removes excess glucose (sugar) from
the bloodstream and stores it as glycogen. As needed, it can convert glycogen
back into glucose.
When the liver is overwhelmed with toxins, mucous is formed that
restricts the flow of blood thus limiting the ability to function properly.
Quite often, the body relies on the lymphatic system to assist in the removal
of these toxins creating many of the symptoms previously mentioned.
Treating these infections does not fix the cause.
Repairing the liver function is essential and easy if you take certain
steps. Most important is to limit exposure of toxic and physiologically
destructive substances such as preventative drugs and vaccines that
provide minimal protection while damaging the liver. A number of botanical
foods cleanse and repair the liver naturally. Milk thistle, turmeric,
dandelion, ginger, licorice and cinnamon are among the favorites used
in naturopathic approaches. The addition of other superfoods such as
spirulina, chlorella and cilantro provide further removal of heavy metals
and toxins. These botanicals also contribute a plethora of micronutrients
favorable to cellular regeneration of healthy cells in the body.
Keeping the liver clean and in good repair will mitigate most health
issues to insure a longer, healthier life for your pets.
misc | thanks mom
By Ann Landers
I had the meanest mother in
the world. While other kids
had candy for breakfast, I had
to eat cereal, eggs, and toast.
While other kids had cola and candy for lunch, I had a
sandwich. As you can guess, my dinner was different
from other kids’ dinners, too.
My mother insisted on knowing where we were at all
times. You’d think we were on a chain gang or something. She
had to know who our friends were and what we were doing.
I am ashamed to admit it, but she actually had the nerve to
break the child labor law. She made us work.
We had to wash dishes, make the beds and learn how to
cook. That woman must have stayed awake nights thinking
up things for us kids to do.
And she always insisted that we tell the truth, the whole
truth, and nothing but the truth.
By the time we were teenagers, she was much wiser, and
our life became even more unbearable. None of this tooting
the car horn for us to come running; she embarrassed us to
no end by insisting that the boys come to the door to get us.
I forgot to mention that most of our friends were allowed
to date at the mature age of 12 and 13, but our old-fashioned
mother refused to let us date until we were 15.
She really raised a bunch of squares. None of us was ever
arrested for shoplifting or busted for dope. And who do we
have to thank for this?
You’re right, our Mean Mother.
Thanks Mom!
