HEY CROSSFIRE, IT IS TIME!

We are so grateful to be on the other side of Covid! With that, we are ready to get

back into the swing of Welcome and Usher teams at the Crossfire service. The only

prerequisite is a smiling face and an attitude to serve Jesus. Mark this connection

card to indicate your interest and someone will be in touch.

MERRY, MATURE, METHODISTS (3M’S)

The 3M’s will host a discussion with Braden Corliss about his new adventure with

Vinyard Church on Thursday, May 19 at noon in the Lower Fellowship Hall. RSVP for

your catered lunch with Erma at 724.996.4348.

GRADUATION SUNDAY IS COMING SOON!

High school and college graduates will be celebrated on Sunday, June 12 during

the Crossfire service. If you would like to have your senior recognized, contact the

church office at 724.283.6160 by May 31.

A FAREWELL RECEPTION FOR BRADEN AND AVERY CORLISS

A farewell reception for Braden and Avery Corliss will be held at the Rt. 8 Campus

immediately following the Crossfire service on Sunday, May 22. Braden is currently

on staff as the Rt. 8 Campus Director. Braden and Avery are beginning the journey

of planting their own church here in Butler. Join us in wishing them well.

LIGHT UP BUTLER SERVE DAY WAS AN AWESOME DAY!

First Church was blessed to be able to serve alongside The Lighthouse Foundation

to complete some projects for a few of their residents. Thank you to those of you

that sacrificially gave of your time to #loveyourneighbor!

JESUS CHANGES EVERYTHING

This week: John 13:1-17

The foundation of this relationship

through which Jesus shapes us is

love. Not love as emotion – I feel

love for someone or something. Not

love as attraction – there is beauty

that draws me to someone or

something. Rather, love as sacrificial

giving of oneself to be blessing for

another. It is what Jesus – the one

who is Lord, who is the Kingdom

of God – illustrates when he kneels

before the disciples and washes

their feet. The one who then says to

them, “to be my disciple is to do as

I have done to you.” Discipleship is

not forging our own path. It is allowing Jesus to form himself in us so that we will do what

he did. Later in the chapter he says, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must

love one another.” (Verse 34). Two chapters later, still in the Upper Room, with the foot

washing experience still front and center, Jesus says again to them, “12 My command

is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay

down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.” (15:12-

14) Jesus shapes his heart and priorities in us through love – by sacrificially laying down his

life for us. This loving, shaping work that he does IN us is so that we can sacrificially love by

giving ourselves as blessings for others, as Jesus sacrificially has been blessing to us.
