a sensible soldier,
he realized directly
there was only one way
to behave circumspectly
THE GENERAL LOSES DIRECTION
a general stood
in the forest perplexed
unsure of what was
and was not coming next
and so he lay down
and looked up at the sky
which is neither convex
or concave or awry
and for all that I know
he is lying there yet
drawing conclusions
he tries to forget
his sense of direction
that once was concave
had gradually changed
and become more convex’d
which meant that the forest
that once stood around him
was now in reverse
and was there to confound him
“the forest curved in,”
he announced to the air,

USA (September, 2016) – It was a first; my
brother and I took a short sejour to New
York for a few days of exploration. My only
real request was to walk The High Line;
we mounted our way upwards towards the
former railroad spur via access at Hell’s
Kitchen. Wandering along the elevated
garden walkways; gazing out at the skyline,
whilst playing hide and seek around the wind
propelled art installations.
