Dear Readers, 

Here is the ninth edition of our FERCAM Magazine, an in-depth periodical 

dedicated to the world of transport and logistics of the FERCAM Group. 

Let us start from one of the issues that we care about most: the evolution 

towards an increasingly sustainable future for our sector. 

FERCAM continues to invest in innovations that make it possible to 

reduce the impact of corporate activities on the planet, with a project 

for the gradual replacement of vehicles in its fleet and the adoption of 

alternative low-emission fuels. 

It is clear, however, that although a company may undertake a path 

of sustainable development, significant results can be more easily 

and rapidly achieved only by involving a larger network. FERCAM is 

working with different stakeholders to extend the range of action of its 

sustainability initiatives. Projects such as the circular economy program 

undertaken with Tecnica and the founding of FERCAM Echo Labs, the 

Group’s non-profit company, are two examples of this attitude. 

In this issue, we also wanted to give particular prestige to our Special 

Services Division, a niche in our sector in which you may encounter 

professionals with refined specialist skills, which go far beyond goods 

transport and handling. We are therefore getting to know more about 

art logistics and the exhibition set-up of Jago’s masterpieces; about 

our all-round service dedicated to the world of fairs and events; and 

finally about the expansion of our proposal in the field of removals and 

relocation, with particular focus on the international dimension, thanks 

to the recent acquisition of the historic Vinelli & Scotto brand.

SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT, WITH ALTERNATIVE 

TRACTION AND ECOLOGICAL FUELS 

FERCAM has always been attentive to all technological innovations that can effectively contribute towards lowering 

the ecological impact of its operations. In order to achieve its sustainability objectives, the company is moving in 

parallel on two complementary fronts: the revision of its vehicle fleet and the use of environmentally friendly fuels. 

Emission Free Delivery: the vehicle fleet being tested in Rome 

Through a series of diversified measures, FERCAM 

is focusing on the introduction of new alternative 

traction vehicles, such as electric and hydrogen, in 

addition to low impact vehicles powered by CNG and 

LNG. The Emission Free Delivery project in particular is 

dedicated to sustainability in urban areas, for last-mile 

distribution, and has begun its pilot phase in Rome. 

Dino Menichetti, Regional Manager and head of the 

project, says: “The objective is to carry out 100% 

of the distribution within the “Green Belt” of the 

capital within two years using only environmentally 

sustainable vehicles. Last year, FERCAM signed an 

agreement with CNR-ITAE, for consultancy on the 

design and construction of zero-emission BEV and 

FCHEV hydrogen vehicles, and production plants 

from RES, storage and distribution of alternative 

fuels. The project has been developed according to 

a Well-to-Wheel rationale, i.e., taking into account 

the entire life cycle of the vehicle and the production, 

transport and distribution of fuel and electricity”. 

Electrically-powered vehicles have so far also been 

introduced at the Bolzano and Trento branches, and 

preparations are underway to set up recharging 

systems for a future extension of the initiative to the 

Como and Milano branches. A hydrogen-powered 

vehicle will also be introduced in Bolzano, in addition 

to the Quantron motor currently being tested at the 

capital’s headquarters. 

Recently, FERCAM, Gruppo Sapio and CNR-ITAE 

have signed a memorandum of understanding to 

study and promote low / no carbon logistics solutions 

based precisely on the integration of renewable

Green fuels play an 

increasingly important 

role in ensuring sustainable 

transport. 

In Bolzano we experience pure HVO for our diesel vehicles 

energy sources such as solar energy and hydrogen. 

CNR-ITAE researchers will also provide support for 

the verification of the requirements for Industry 4.0 

and Transition 4.0 and the possible synergies of the 

proposed interventions with the mobility plans and 

any other planning tools (local or national), as well as 

the certification of emission reduction. 

Environmentally friendly fuels are playing an 

increasingly important role in ensuring sustainable 

transport. In 2020 FERCAM decided to invest in the 

conversion of the Biogas Wipptal plant to develop a 

bio-methane fuel created by processing manure from 

South Tyrolean farms. The bio-methane will soon be 

available at the new filling station in Sterzing and will 

be used to power all new LNG-powered heavy-duty 

vehicles recently introduced by the company. 

The recent innovation that has enabled FERCAM to 

claim a position as a trend-setter in the transport sector 

is the introduction of the new hydrogenated biofuel 

pure HVO. Diesel-powered vehicles, in fact, remain the 

most widely used means of transport and the central 

pivot on which targeted action is needed. The new fuel 

is a new generation diesel that allows a reduction of 

CO2-eq emissions calculated along the entire supply 

chain up to 94.7% (*). At the Bolzano site, FERCAM 

has activated its own internal distribution pump for 

the supply of batches of pure HVO fuel, certified as 

coming from waste materials of biological origin and 

free of palm oil. In fact, pure HVO is not yet available 

at traditional fuelling stations. In this first test phase 

of the project, refuelling is foreseen for a few vehicles 

that carry out regular services, on routes that include 

daily return to the headquarters. 

FERCAM constantly monitors the results obtained 

from its actions aimed at sustainable development and 

annually publishes a Sustainability Report, prepared 

in accordance with the GRI Core Option standard 

and certified by Bureau Veritas. This data is always 

freely available for consultation by accessing the 

Sustainability page at www.fercam.com.

benchmark in accordance with the REDII Directive.

Recycle Your Boots: a circular economy project needs transport designed 

with sustainability in mind 

“ 

For Tecnica, relying on FERCAM represents the 

continuation of its sustainability project because 

it guarantees the eco-compatibility of logistics 

operations related to the initiative. 

Tecnica is one of the world leaders in the ski boot 

sector, present in Europe, North America and Asia, 

with a team of more than 3150 people. The Recycle 

Your Boots initiative, adopted by the Life program and 

operational from 2021 in eight European countries, 

stems from the awareness of the problems linked to 

the production of waste and its disposal. Everyone 

who needs to buy a new pair of ski boots is encouraged 

to return their old pair, of any brand, so that they can 

be recycled. In a transparent and sustainable process, 

all materials that make up the boots are then recovered 

and reprocessed. “The RYB project will help reduce 

the ski industry’s environmental footprint, and at the 

same time support the local mountain economy. It’s a 

virtuous circle that involves different actors: producers, 

transporters, researchers, retailers and consumers, all 

united by environmental sensitivity and participating 

in an integrated system,” explains Maurizio Priano, 

marketing and brand manager at Blizzard-Tecnica. 

The Venetian company needed a customized service 

for the collection of old boots from stores and 

transport to centres where materials are further 

treated in order to recover their components. It also 

needed all logistical operations to be carried out 

according to the same principles of respect for the 

environment and sustainability along the entire chain. 

The reduced environmental impact services offered 

by FERCAM fit in well with the basic idea of the Tecnica 

project, involving the reduction of harmful emissions, 

the use of alternative traction vehicles and the saving 

of energy resources. Priano continues: “FERCAM 

has a fleet of vehicles with reduced environmental 

impact and has adopted specific measures to account 

for, neutralise and offset CO2 emissions. Tecnica chose 

FERCAM because we share the same values, and the 

ideal logistics solution was tailored together to meet 

all the customization requirements of the project”. 

As a partner of Tecnica, FERCAM takes care of picking 

up the goods from the participating stores and of all 

transport operations. The old ski boots are delivered 

to a specialized company, which processes them into 

second-generation material, such as plastic granules 

and pieces of aluminium, which are then melted down 

and reused in industrial production. 

“The pick-up centres are always in tourist locations far 

from major highway routes,” says Francesco Comerlati,

focused on minimizing pickups, optimizing routes and 

avoiding empty mileage”. 

For Tecnica, relying on FERCAM represents the 

continuation of its sustainability project. Thanks to the 

use of LNG engines and electric vehicles for last-mile 

routes, as well as the adoption of specific measures 

for the neutralization and compensation of CO2 

emissions using carbon sink, FERCAM guarantees 

the eco-compatibility of logistics operations related 

to the initiative. 

“We have always been committed to reducing CO2 

emissions. For Tecnica’s project, we studied a method 

using Carbonsinkto improve the footprint of logistics 

and transport activities. That’s why we measured the 

kilometres we will travel for Tecnica’s Reboot project, 

from the moment our vehicle passes by the customer/ 

shopkeeper, collects the goods (the used boots) and 

brings them back to the plastic collection centre. 

We will travel about 52,000 km, which corresponds 

to 42.5 tons of CO2 emissions. We have chosen 

aCarbonsink project, Preservation forest, to offset these 

emissions. It is a project that aims to involve and support 

local communities in the protection of forest reserves 

in their villages. It contributes to the conservation of 

wildlife and climate change mitigation while creating 

significant employment and opportunities for some of 

Tanzania’s most remote villages,” concludes Comerlati.

FERCAM ECHO LABS 

The FERCAM-branded social enterprise was launched 

in December 2021. Going beyond the concept of profit, 

with the objective of building a more sustainable future 

for people and the environment 

FERCAM Echo Labs was developed from a simple 

need at the FERCAM Rome headquarters: to create 

an environmentally sustainable relaxation area for 

employees and collaborators, where they could take 

a regenerating break. It all started with two obsolete 

swap bodies, which were recovered, repainted and 

turned into an innovative and welcoming space: the 

first FERCAM Echo Park. Just as a single small drop 

generates larger and larger waves, from this first 

initiative the range of action has progressively 

expanded. The new company, as a permanent 

laboratory, aims to promote relationships between 

different organizations, but united by the desire to 

leave positive impressions in their wake. 

At the heart of Echo Labs initiatives are the Corporate 

Social Responsibility programs of partner companies, 

in the direction of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable 

Development. The common denominator is the 

17 Sustainable Development Goals, transnational 

guidelines drawn up by the UN for the construction 

of a future of global peace and prosperity and for the 

safeguarding of environmental balance. The Mission 

of FERCAM Echo Labs is to create networks and 

synergies, so that thanks to active participation in 

the laboratory, it is possible to carry out projects that 

individual organizations would be unable to achieve 

independently. 

FERCAM Echo Labs integrates research, practice and 

training, to offer a concrete experience of collaboration 

where the fundamental element is the involvement 

of a heterogeneous network: companies, universities, 

non-profit organizations, territories and institutions 

interested in participating in scalable actions, from 

a pilot project to widespread implementation. The 

laboratory is conceived as a tool for reflection on the 

development of a virtuous and circular economy. It 

operates through the search for functional solutions, 

always sustainable and ecological, matured in a context 

rich in nuances, different perspectives and fruitful mix 

of cultures and heterogeneous approaches. 

FERCAM Echo Labs was inspired and guided in the 

definition of objectives, projects and operational 

methods by its founding partners. Laying the first 

stones were Linaria and Laboratorio Linfa, experts 

in urban biodiversity and design objects built with 

recycled materials, Cooperativa Sociale MediHospes, 

which works to pursue paths of social integration and 

positive growth. There were Media Service Recycling 

and WorldMatic, which make sustainability one of the 

pillars of their business development. And there was 

generous support from Prologis, which was thrilled 

to see such a project implemented at one of its leased 

facilities. 

The FERCAM Echo Labs network is made up of different 

organizations, united by the same goals, which share 

the desire to positively influence the future of our 

planet. We trust that in the near future the number of 

active partnerships will continue to grow, so that each 

project can be applied to new areas and the scope of 

interventions can become increasingly broad.

JAGO 

FERCAM Fine Art is the technical partner of one of the most 

incisive and acclaimed artists of our contemporaneity 

In love with the great masters of art, a rebel against the 

teachings of the Academy, an autodidact of the chisel: 

Jago is an artist who has brought to life his highest 

inspirations, rolling up his sleeves and continuing to 

tell his story publicly. A contemporary humanist, he 

humbly works alongside artists throughout the history 

of art who have had the courage to present their work, 

encouraging each among his audience to act and leave 

their mark in the world. 

Jago has chosen to take advantage of the expertise and 

specialist consultancy of the FERCAM Fine Art team 

which, in addition to planning transport in complete 

safety, mediates relations with the various museum 

bodies and offers support in defining insurance plans. 

“This is a truly prestigious collaboration,” comments 

Chiara Prisco, Head of the Fine Art Business Unit, “We 

are delighted to have been able to build what we hope 

will be the basis of a lasting partnership with an artist 

who not only has genuine talent and an interesting 

vision, but also entrepreneurial acumen and a broad 

awareness of his historical and social context”. 

From the narrow streets of Rione Sanità in Naples, 

FERCAM Fine Art transported the contemporary Pietà 

by Jago to Piazza del Popolo, overseeing its installation in 

one of the evocative alcoves of the “Chiesa degli Artisti” 

The transport of the Pietà by Jago established a 

particular parallelism with the company’s history: in 

1964, in fact, Gondrand (later acquired by FERCAM) 

had transported Michelangelo’s Pietà to New York, on 

the only trip of its life. Like then, the transport of the 

contemporary sculpture was not an easy operation, 

beginning with the imposing dimensions and the weight 

of the group sculpture, massive and extremely delicate 

at the same time. After passing the steps of Sant’Aspreno 

ai Crociferi, where a small crowd had gathered to assist 

the operations of lifting the wooden box, the precious 

load was placed on the FERCAM vehicle and faced the 

230 kilometres that separated it from the site of the 

first exhibition. Here, in a side chapel of the Basilica 

that already bore witness to the historical link between 

spirituality and art, the team of Fine Art technicians

patiently set up the scaffolding, then placed and secured 

the white sculpture on its new pedestal. 

“It was an incredible experience because I gained a 

new awareness: organizing such a transport operation 

may seem simple to an outsider, but there is great 

specialization and talent behind it. It took all my 34 

years to get to the Pietà: I entrusted it to those who I 

knew would take the utmost care of it, at all times,” were 

Jago’s words at the end of the operation. 

The partnership continues: Tonnes of marble fly in through 

the windows 

It was inaugurated in early March, at Palazzo Bonaparte 

in Rome, the artist’s solo exhibit entitled “Jago. The 

Exhibition”. As a reliable partner of Jago, FERCAM took 

care of the safe transport of the works of art featured in 

the exhibition. The artworks were collected by FERCAM 

at the previous exhibition sites and progressively 

gathered in the modern dedicated vault in the Rome 

branch. 

In a breath-taking transport operation, the crates 

containing the larger sculptures were lifted by crane 

and placed through two of the windows on the Altare 

della Patria side, to install them on the second floor of 

the historic building. “The work that we knew would 

present us with the greatest challenges in handling 

was the Venus, since it is protected by the tallest crate,” 

explains Chiara Prisco, FERCAM Fine Art Manager. 

“Each movement is planned according to meticulous 

calculations and executed with extreme caution. In 

these cases, study and planning are essential, but 

our true art is flexibility: we must always be ready to 

react to circumstances and contingent needs, finding 

new solutions where necessary and readjusting plans.” 

While the crates are in the air, Jago shuttles back and 

forth between the street floor and the showrooms, 

occasionally stopping to watch the lifting activities. 

“Risk is also opportunity for evolution. But I have full 

confidence in the competence of those who are carrying 

out this transport, it’s a great thrill to see them at work 

again,” he comments, smiling. 

Once all the artwork had been transported to the 

second floor, the team of Fine Art technicians dedicated 

themselves to the movement and allocation of the works 

along the entire exhibition route, carefully installing the 

various sculptures on the pedestals arranged in the 

rooms, thus preparing them for public viewing until 3 

July.

FERCAM FAIRS & EVENTS 

New brand for the BU: aiming at international success without forgetting its origins 

can say that this company was the first example of a 

Contract Logistics Operator, managing refrigerated 

warehouses for the production and storage of ice in 

Milan, and carrying out the first experiments on meat 

preservation for the Armed Forces. More recently, 

the company has developed a service dedicated to the 

field of trade fairs, being appointed On Site Agent at 

some of the most important trade fairs in Italy: Genoa, 

Parma, Carrara. 

Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna 2022 Setting Up 

A little more than a year after the rebranding of the 

Fairs and Art sector, FERCAM’s Fairs & Events BU 

managed to close an important agreement which 

nominated it On Site Agent at the Lingotto Fiere 

exhibition centre in Turin. A valuable result that finds 

its roots in the decades of experience inherited and 

the ability to adapt to unforeseen situations, laying 

the foundations for a rising future in the international 

arena. 

Fairs & Events is FERCAM’s business unit dedicated to 

the logistics of trade fairs and events. It has inherited 

a long history of entrepreneurial success from 

Gondrand, a company acquired by FERCAM in 2013. 

The foundation of the latter, a company renowned 

in Italy for its logistics activities and in particular for 

its expertise in the removals sector, dates back to 

1866, with a rich resume that still keeps the company 

alive and well in the memory of many. In fact, we

international consolidation, and thanks to a close-knit 

and highly motivated team, FERCAM Fairs & Events 

has recently closed an important agreement with GL 

EVENTS - one of the major European players among 

the managers of exhibition centres: it has been chosen 

as On Site Agent for Lingotto Fiere in Turin. On Site 

Agent is the technical term that defines the official 

mover and forwarder of an exhibition center and 

represents a particularly important achievement 

for a company operating in this field. Obtaining this 

assignment means in fact managing a series of complex 

and time-sensitive activities, as well as being able to 

make available a quantity of vehicles, machinery and 

specialised personnel at the right time and in a certain 

place so that the setting up of the trade fair event 

goes smoothly. “Being able to present our team with 

the title of On Site Agent again, even for members of 

IELA (International Exhibition Logistics Association), 

makes us a direct point of contact for all the companies 

that exhibit their products at events organized by GL 

Events,” says Davide Aonso, Special Services Director. 

The uncertainty generated by the continuing health 

emergency does not yet allow for a 100% renewal 

of exhibition activities, and the right precautions to 

limit contagions are the reason for cautionary rules 

that, once again this year, will not allow for a return to 

operating at volumes similar to the pre-Covid period. 

“However, this assignment represents an investment: 

we are preparing for tomorrow and will pursue the 

continued growth of this activity within the services 

offered by FERCAM,” concludes Aonso.

linked to more exclusive private events, which will make

it to a few guests. In addition, there will be outdoor 

events, such as sports events, which are impossible 

to replicate in a virtual format. As FERCAM Fairs & 

Events, in addition to a great passion for our work, 

we have extensive experience in organizing different 

types of events and in very different locations, from 

hotels to theatres to private venues,” says Cristina May, 

Fairs & Events Department Manager in Milan. 

Resilience, the ability to adapt to impeding and 

prolonged events, together with the willingness to 

innovate are confirmed to be a clear competitive 

advantage in unforeseen situations such as those 

generated by the pandemic. “We are confident in 

thinking that our expertise will represent a great 

added value even in changing contexts, thanks to our 

qualified workforce and our expertise in managing

Scotto, a company specialized in international removals and relocation. 

Vinelli & Scotto was founded as a family business by two 

cousins (Francesco Vinelli and his cousin Scotto) at the 

end of the 19th century. It was led during the difficult 

war years by Vinelli’s daughter - one of the first Italian 

women entrepreneurs of the time - and continued to 

be led by female figures until the 1990s. Today the 

company is still specialized in the removal sector, in 

particular at an international level: for more than a 

century it has assisted its customers in every phase of 

their relocation, at a logistical and bureaucratic level, 

to any destination in the world.

to the continuous dialogue between the partners involved 

Roberto Arduini accepts the ‘Logistician of the Year’ award together with Alessandra Settimi 

Assologistica recognized FERCAM with a prestigious 

award, which exalts the company’s growing commitment 

in the field of environmental sustainability. The 

opportunity presented itself at a time when AgriEuro 

- a company specialized in the sale of agricultural and 

garden equipment - during the period of the first 

lockdown began to significantly increase online sales 

through its e-commerce platform. Starting from March 

2020, people started to spend a lot of time at home and 

in the garden, also devoting more care and renewing 

furniture and equipment. 

The increasing trend of AgriEuro’s online shop led to 

double the turnover in 2021 compared to the previous 

year, leading to a corresponding increase in the need 

for storage space for goods, as well as the need for an 

increasingly punctual and efficient organization of 

shipments. A good logistics service is in fact an asset of 

fundamental importance for the proper management 

of remote sales activities. 

More orders also imply a higher consumption of 

packaging materials, particularly paper, plastic and 

metals. This combination of different materials results 

in a difficulty sorting the different types of waste and 

this often leads, unfortunately, to suboptimal disposal 

from a sustainability standpoint. 

The solution was found by AgriEuro with the support 

of FERCAM and carried out for test activities at the 

Piacenza logistics warehouse. Here, a machine has 

been set up that creates tailor-made packaging for 

each shipment, entirely in recycled cardboard, sealed 

with glue without the need for staples. Paper scotch 

tape is used to close the boxes, in order to eliminate 

the use of plastic materials. The most interesting 

innovation concerns larger packages, in which the 

classic wooden pallet is replaced by a structure with 

cardboard plinths. In this way, only one type of waste 

is produced - paper - so that the differentiation and 

recycling phase is easier for customers.

flexibility concerns especially the sustainability of
