FISHING
DERBY
WRAP UP
Thank you to
everyone who
attended the Fishing
Derby. It was great
to see so many
people taking part
in the event,
catching fish,
enjoying pancakes,
and cheering for
their favorite rubber duck as they
crossed the finish line. The
cormorants and pelicans showed
up a day later for their own fishing
derby.

BRANCH PICK UP
Our community was hit hard by
the recent snowstorm resulting in
significant damage to the trees in our
parks, on trails, along sidewalks, and
on private property. I want to extend
my appreciation to the crews of our
Public Works and Parks, Trails and
Recreation Departments who initiated
the removal of broken tree branches
the day after the storm. This level of
service is why Greenwood Village is
such a special place to live. If you have
additional branches, cut them into
10-foot lengths and call the Village for
a large item pickup. Please remember
large item pickup is offered by the
Village year-round. The number to call
is 303-708-6100.

NOISE WALL
REHABILITATION
PROJECT
Greenwood Village constructed noise
walls on many busy Village streets.
The purpose of these noise walls is to
mitigate traffic noise in the
surrounding neighborhoods. This year
we are continuing the Noise Wall
Rehabilitation Program to maintain
and repair Village owned noise walls.
Currently, repairs are underway at the
following locations. These repairs are
expected to be completed in June.
• King Soopers Trail: between
Belleview and Chenango
(West perimeter of Cherry Creek
Village South)
• Sundance Hills: at the south-east
perimeter, along Orchard Road
between South Florence Street and
South Havana Street
• Sundance Hills: at the north-east
perimeter, along South Havana
Street
If you have questions about the GV
Noise Wall Rehabilitation program,
please contact Bill Behre, Project
Manager, at 720-749-8155
or email
bbehre@greenwoodvillage.com.

KNOW THE SOUNDS OF THE LIGHTNING
DEVICES AT MAJOR VILLAGE PARKS
During the summer storm season, Village park users and visitors may be exposed to potential
dangers of a lightning storm while being outside. In efforts to provide a safer environment while
attending events at Village Greens Park, Curtis Park, Westlands Park, Silo Park, and Tommy
Davis Park, the Village has installed lightning prediction and warning systems to alert park users
of the potential for lightning before it strikes.
The lightning systems in designated Village parks are prediction systems not detector systems.
These systems measure the shift of the positive and negative ions in the atmosphere and in the
ground that could create an energy flow that may result in a lightning strike once a conductive
cloud to ground path is available. The lightning prediction and warning system senses and
evaluates these shifts and changes in the electrostatic field that precede the occurrence of an
actual lightning strike and activates an audible, as well as, visual warning alerting of the
dangerous conditions.
The systems are set to monitor a 2.5 mile radius from its location. When the conditions are ripe
for lightning at the parks or within the 2.5 mile radius, a continuous audible horn is activated for a period of 15 seconds alerting users of the
potential for lightning and activating yellow strobes on the roofs of the structures located within the parks. These strobes will stay activated
throughout the period of potential lightning activity and will shut off only after an all clear signal consisting of three five second audible horn
blasts. The systems are operational between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., seven days a week, through the spring and summer months.
For more information, please call Dustin Huff, Parks Manager, at 303-708-6155.

Shanghai, China is located on China’s
central coast, south of the Yangtze
River. Since ancient times, it has been
considered the land of fish and rice
where local chefs have taken advantage
of the area’s rich products to provide a
cuisine with unique flavor, intricacy,
and wonder. How amazing would it be
to participate in such an experience
right here in Greenwood Village?
Instead of booking that international
flight, why not head over to The
Shanghai Kitchen.
Harry and Alice Zhou, who were born
and raised in Shanghai, opened their
unique dining establishment in
February 2000. After visiting friends
in the Denver area during the 1990s,
they were fascinated by the friendly
residents, beautiful landscape, and
clean environment of Greenwood
Village. Harry and Alice say, “The
Village is the best location for our
restaurant and we are committed to
offering authentic, healthy, and
original Shanghai and Sichuan
Chinese dishes to Greenwood Village
residents and the surrounding
community.”
The Shanghai Kitchen is distinguished
because the design and setting of the
restaurant mirrors what is found in the
City of Shanghai, bringing about a
historical atmosphere and preserving
their Chinese culture. Their entrees are
meticulously prepared to create the
finest product with the most original
taste. A few of the many popular
dishes include Shanghai Pork Mini
Dumplings, Spareribs with Pickled
Bamboo Soup, and Duck Seasoned
with Brown Sauce. They have devoted,
long-term customers because they
serve high-quality entrees in a timely
manner combined with the welcoming
ambience of the restaurant and
delightful staff.

GENERAL INTEREST
CAN WE FIND YOU?
MAKE SURE YOUR ADDRESS
IS VISIBLE FROM THE STREET
If there is a police, fire, or medical emergency at your home,
can first responders find you fast? Address markers that are
hidden by shrubs or trees, or ones that are non-reflecting or
unlighted are hard to spot, even by trained emergency
personnel. Your house number painted on the curb may
seem like a good idea, until that number is covered with
snow or blocked by a car.
Help us help you! Make sure your address is easily visible. If
you have a long driveway, or a shared drive, make sure there
are markers at the street, on the house, and at forks in the
drive. Large numbers, 3-4 inches high that reflect light are
best. It is also helpful if the numbers are visible from both
directions on your street and visible at night as well as
during the day. You may be wondering with today’s
technology why computers can’t just direct responders right
to the house? Technology is making the job easier but it’s
neither foolproof nor perfect. A well-marked residence or
business is the best way to ensure that when you call 9-1-1,
we can find you!

CELEBRATING POLLINATORS
Join Greenwood Village in celebrating June 20-26, 2022, as
National Pollinator Week for the purpose of encouraging all
to recognize and celebrate the important role pollinators play
in our environment and to work actively to support and
protect pollinators of all kinds in the Village.
Pollinators are insects and animals that transfer pollen from
one plant to another. This pollen transfer leads to plants
being able to produce fruits, vegetables, and nuts.
Pollination, thus, is a crucial method through which humans
and wildlife get their food resources. According to the
National Wildlife Federation, every one in three bites of food
you take comes from a pollinated source. Below are resources
toward protecting and enhancing pollinators and their
habitats.
