EDITOR'S
LETTER
Ahhhh June! The "Opening Act" for
Summer. The months of May and
June are filled with newness and
renewal. Green is making its
comeback.
2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us,
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he
is a new creation; old things have
passed away; behold, all things have
become new."
Did you catch the principle within
this verse? Life comes from death.
Let me explain.
Sowing and reaping are agricultural
terms. When a seed is sown, it goes
through a process, the process is
death. The seed, depending on the
environment and placement, will be
dormant or die. A dormant seed does
nothing (you might as well say it's
dead), but if the seed finds "good
1st Cup
Morning Show
with Bobby
6-8am W-T-F
soil" (Matthew 13:3-9) it dies and life comes forth. Notice I didn't say "fruit".
Remember it is a process. Farmers and gardeners throughout history have depended
on this principle to be true in the natural realm and God’s word says that what is true
in agriculture is true in life as well. What a person sows in life they will eventually
reap – not because God does something extraordinary to make that happen, but
because it is a principle that He has established and you’re never going to
outmaneuver it. Galatians 6:7-9 backs this up, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked;
for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap." So don’t be deceived into thinking
you can sow bad seed and get away with it. Or, as the saying goes, “sow wild oats all
week long and on Sunday, pray for crop failure.” It doesn’t work that way.
If there is a word that I want you to take out of this, it is the word "process".
Even if you do everything in the right way, the process still must be carried out.
What process? you ask. Dig! It'll come to you.
P A G E 6 | N J R D I G I T A L | J U N E 2 0 2 2
I was raised in church from about the age of 10. My daddy answered the call to preach not long
after he accepted the Lord. We were taught the do's and don'ts about church but nothing about
the fact that Jesus loved us. Growing up in church, we learned how to act and how not to act;
how to talk and when to keep quiet. I went to the altar in a little Nazarene church in Decatur, AL
because other kids did. I just knew you were supposed to go to the altar.
In my teens, I was under direction of youth leaders that I knew prayed for me. Mom taught us to
sing harmony. I always loved to sing, but it got to where we were made to sing. When I was 15, I
showed an interest in guitar. My daddy got me one and said if I learned how to play it, I could
take it with me when I got married. At age 18, I got married. At that point, I knew I didn't have to
go to church. I took the guitar with me though.
After my first child, I was convinced to go back to church. I went a while and loved the company
and doing things around the church. I was in and out of church, not staying very long at a time. I
knew something was missing, but I had not listened enough to know what was missing.
Many years passed and I knew how to do and talk - what I called "lip service". I was good at it. I
always went to church and even told my kids what to do. I even sang in a group a while and
loved it. I was in church, but still only did "lip service". I never had committed to the Lord. Years
passed, my kids grew up and married. I have grandchildren and they're grown now.
Years ago I became the woman at the well. I didn’t know what to do about it because I felt if
someone knew, I’d be dirt. Many more years passed. It’s a dangerous and scary way to live
especially into my 70’s. I could have split hell wide open.
Sometime/somewhere back in 2016 in the latter part of June, I experienced a dream. It’s
indescribable. I saw the Lord come down out of the most beautiful clouds that I can’t describe.
When I looked, He left without me. I came up out of my bed that morning and knew I had to do
something. By now, I was living alone. I’d heard of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I accepted
Jesus that morning. Days later, I invited the Holy Spirit in. There is nothing like the Holy Spirit
that He said He’d send when He went back to the Father to guide and direct us, but you have to
invite Him in.

P A G E 7 | N J R D I G I T A L | J U N E 2 0 2 2
Around the later part of 2018 into 2019, myself and a friend, Rose Lee, came upon this radio
program known as New Journey Radio. At first, I wasn’t sure this was what I was looking for. I was
hunting, but not knowing what I was hunting for. We got involved in listening to the DJ, Bobby
Richardson, with an inviting voice. We were hooked. I never wanted to miss a program
designated to someone hungry for the Lord.
April 4, 2019 at 9:26am, I received a message from Bobby Richardson saying, “I would like to
have you on the NJR prayer team. What you think?” I had learned to say, “Let me pray about it.”
At 12:10pm, I sent a message back, “Yes, I’d be honored.” I hadn’t prayed. I didn’t know how. I
had CRIED. I asked, “What exactly he expected of me as a prayer team?” He explained what was
expected. I said ok, then thought, “what have I done?” I didn’t know how to pray. I’d had a dear
lady tell me years ago that she wrote her requests down when she prayed. I cried a while, then
said, “ Ok, Lord. it’s just me and you.” I don’t have eloquent speech. So each and every morning
I thank the Lord I can walk, talk, see, and hear. I say, “Lord, it’s just me and you.” I always invite
the Holy Spirit in.
There’s nothing like feeling the Sweet Holy Spirit.
Then I just spell it out...
Lord, its
just
You
and me.
I cry some and talk a lot to Jesus about all my
requests. I always pray for Our Nation first then for
those with need of salvation. I then pray for those
who need healing and keep going until I’ve
completed all my requests.
I have learned to put the requests in categories and
date not that any one is more important. I just
don’t want to leave anyone out. I date so I can
check back. This may not be the way you pray and
that’s alright; however, I had to learn.
Now, He wakes me up every morning when it’s prayer time. When it’s time to read the Bible, He
directs. As long as I let Him lead, I do just fine. It’s when I get ahead that I’m in trouble. When the
guilt creeps in, then everything is wrong in my eyes. I have a lot of guilt that He forgave and put
into the Sea of Forgetfulness. It’s taken me a long time to forgive myself. I’m still not sure I’ve
forgiven myself. “I’m not good enough,” is what the old liar tells me. This is something I fight unti I
remember He nailed it to the cross for me.
I know I’m not the only one that had or is living the same lifestyle I did. Jesus saves if we ask and
invite the Sweet Hoky Spirit in. He will come in and dwell (IF) we’ll invite Him in. Myself and the
Lord and the Holy Spirit have a time alone.

Holy Manna
This article was first written back in 2002 when I was working for Dr. Brenda
Robinson as part of her New Desire Ministries based in Cedartown, Georgia.
Those were great days. We saw many souls won to Christ through her Women’s
Ministry, Brother Dan’s preaching ministry, and the Southern Gospel Music
Group consisting of Brenda, Dan, and their son, Labron and his sweet wife,
Brooke. I played piano for them, as well as assisted in the office with booking
and other duties. They collectively helped me through some dary days. But one
thing that Brenda always stressed was to ’take some time and get alone with
God’. This particular day, I had planned to do just that. I was tired, and my brain
was overtaxed. I hope that you will take a few moments and enjoy the
refreshing balm of rememberance that I experienced sitting in my vehicle in the
parking lot of my former church..
CHARLIE SEXTON
A few weeks ago, I was driving in toward home from our
office. It was on a Monday, and we had been out on the
road for several days. I knew that when I did arrive, there
would be several issues demanding my attention, and to
be honest, I wasn't quite ready for all of that just yet. Since
it was nearing lunch time, I pulled up to one our local fast
food drive thru windows, and got myself a grilled chicken
Value Meal complete with a large diet drink and some
fries with more than enough oil in them to crank our Silver
Eagle coach. The advertisement at the restaurant had
convinced me that I "deserved a break today", so I
decided to find a quiet place to just chill out for a while.
I found myself going down the old two lane road toward one of the churches
that my family attended when I was younger. It had been quite a while since I
had been down there, so I pulled in and parked in a shady spot down near the
cemetery. As I began my meal, my mind wandered back to some of the
wonderful revival services that had been conducted on these grounds. I
recounted the great host of people who had been saved here over the years,
myself included. I thought about the many Christmas and Easter pageants, the
fourth Sunday night singings, and the weddings that had been held in the
charming, old sanctuary known as "Zion View Church".

P A G E 1 3 | N J R D I G I T A L | J U N E 2 0 2 2
I continued to devour my sandwich,
and heartily recalled all the many
"Dinner-On-The-Ground" feasts that
had been spread out under the trees on
the old, concrete tables. That was back
before somebody had the bright idea to
cut and tear them all down and build a
fellowship hall. Oh, well, they say you
can't stop progress, you know.
I reminisced about each one of the
older people that had held a distinct
place in my heart during my formative
years. I wept as I realized that the vast
majority of them had already
outstripped the confines of this old
world and had been planted out here in
this quaint, little graveyard near where I
was parked. Each of them had a very
specific knack for cheering me on in my
ongoing pursuit of musical study and its
related endeavors. I‘ll be forever grateful
for their kind and purposeful words of
encouragement during this pivotal time
in my life.
"One such person was Mrs. Mary Jacobs.
Without a doubt, she was one of the
sweetest, dearest, and most spiritual
ladies that I have ever known. She was
our piano player at the church when I
was small. She was easily in her
seventies back then, and had no formal
musical training, but, Brother, could she
ever romp out a good ole Hymn Of The
Church as good as anyone. Most people
called it playing by "ear". I call it playing
by "heart". Regardless of the
terminology, she definitely had a style
all her own. I recall that her favorite
tunes came out of the old "Church
Hymnal", or as we called it, "The Red
Book". (I never did understand why we
called it that... It was actually burgundy!)
Anyway, as she got older, Mrs. Mary
became hard of hearing, but that didn't
slow her down, though. Now, sometimes,
he might misinterpret the
page number that was called out, or
forget the number of verses that had
already been sung, but If she was ever
embarrassed, it never showed. It was a
sight how much she loved me, too. "Like a
great grandson”, she once said.
And, Lord, could she ever shout...and
never miss a beat! Now, friends, when
Mrs. Mary shouted, you knew it was real.
There wasn't an ounce of pretense in that
old saint. Her shout was loud and
piercing, and then it would trail off in to
this unworldly, quivery tone. Many times
as a child, before I fully understood what
was going on, I thought that she must
have been in some kind of severe pain.
How puzzling it was to find out that it was
actually an uncontainable, unspeakable
joy that had triggered that shrill sound.
My, how I miss hearing the shouting of the
dear, old saints. I am easily bored with all
of this hyped up, hypnotic emotionalism
that is found in some so called places of
worship today. I wish that they could get
a hold of a true touch from the Lord that
came from the inside out, not from the
outside in.
Another fond memory that I have is of an
elderly gentleman named Tack Compton.
He, too was getting on up in years, and,
although senility had overshadowed his
body, it never took the song in his heart.
Unlike Mrs. Mary, Mr. Tack had been to
many a singing school in his younger
days, and could read music as well as
any one. I guess he's the first person I
ever heard sing using only the given
names of the ‘shaped notes'.
On several occasions after his mind
started slipping, I remember him singing
out in church. It didn't matter if the
preacher was preaching, or if somebody
was praying, or if one of the deacons was
giving the announcements.

P A G E 1 4 | N J R D I G I T A L | J U N E 2 0 2 2
If ole Tack got a hankering to sing,
buddy, he'd just tear out on the old
hymn, "Holy Manna" right from his seat.
They'd just let him sing by himself till he
was through, but one particular day I
recall, everyone joined in and sang that
grand, old song with him. Now, friends, I
tell you, we had a Holy Ghost meetin'
that hot August afternoon.
Gospel Music
Fanfair Awards
If I close my eyes, it seems that I can still
hear that majestic sound of old
fashioned Sacred Harp harmony rising
swiftly past the rafters of a simple
earthen brick and mortar structure and
in awe, observe as a song of praise
wafts straight up through the heavens
and directly into the Throne Room of
God. My, how it must please The Father
to hear His children sing... "All is vain
unless The Spirit of The Holy One comes
down. Brethren, pray that Holy Manna
will be showered all around."
Well, I finished my meal and headed on
home, but oh, the joy that filled my heart
to have once again spent some quality
time with several of the dearest friends
that a young boy could have ever had in
this world, or the world to come.
I’M
OKAY!
Have you ever looked across the isle at church and thought, “Look at him, look at her,
they’ve got it made!” The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. We all face
adversities, trials, difficult situations in life. There is an old saying “You’re either climbing
up the mountain or you will be soon!” We all face them, sickness, job loss, family
arguments, marital issues, financial issues, transportation problems to name a few.
The list goes on and on and on.
Most of us can put on a fake façade. Many of us are like a remodeled home with brand
new siding. The curb appeal is great, but when you start pealing off layers, you begin
to see what is underneath. Have you ever had someone ask you “How Are You?, and
you say “Okay”, even though you really weren’t? I think all of us have done that a time
or two. So, how do we handle these adversities as a Christian? Jason Crabb has a
song called “Your Help Is on the Way” - “Don’t lose hope, there’s gonna be a change,
just call on Jesus name, rest your soul, the help is on the way” Does this sound easier
then it really is?
First, pull your bootstraps up and don’t blame God. Most of the time, it’s our own fault
for the predicament we are in, not Gods. However, may I remind you that it is the trials
we face in everyday life God can use to allow us to grow in grace. Stop trying to figure
everything out yourself. The old cliché “Let go, and Let God” is true. Why is it we try to
use every physical and mental resource we have before we call of God? Would you
agree that we are absolutely dependent on him to breathe? What about death, does
anyone know when they will die? NO! I strongly believe God uses these problems,
issues, difficulties in our lives to allow us to understand, we are nothing on our own, we
should not be independent but dependent on God for everything we do.
How do we do this? I think the Psalmist sums it up nicely in Psalm 46:10 “Be Still and
Know That I Am God!” I interpret this to mean God is our refuge, and in the everyday
hustle of life, we can easily lose sight of this fact. God stands ready and willing to help
us in our time of trouble. Remember this, God is greater than the problems we face.
Stop worrying, fighting, and dealing with issues on your own or leaving God out.
Afterall, he should be the first one we seek out. If we could learn to turn things over to
God, then when someone asks “How You Doing”you can honestly say “Okay” really
mean it!
People believe loved ones who've passed on to the
if a Christian sees a cardinal after recently
losing a loved one, they may take it as a
reassuring sign that they're at peace.
Reflections from
Mayberry
/ by Greg & Donna Journey
This is the month we honor and celebrate our
Fathers. Greg and I want to share some fond
memories of our Fathers with you.
My Daddy's name was Rufus Bledsoe and he
was born to a family of 12 other brothers and
sisters here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge
mountains of N.C. He was born in a small 4
room house and grew up in a loving home
that taught him to always put God first, stay in
the Word, and to work hard for everything
you have. Mom and Dad married at the young
age of 16 in 1940 and saw many tough times
during the Great Depression. My sister Vickie
was born in 1950 and then I came along in
1960. I was a true Daddy's girl and loved my
Daddy with all my being.
We were raised on a small farm in the foothills
of the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC. Daddy
would farm in the daytime and work 2nd shift
in a factory at night to make ends meet. When
Vickie and I were older Mama also took a
daytime job in a factory and worked on the
farm as well. They both brought us up to work
hard, love God, and they taught us to sing as
soon as we could talk. I can remember at a
young age hearing Daddy ask God to give one
of us the ability to play the piano for our
family to sing. Not only one of his girls grew
up to play but both.
Our family traveled all over NC, VA. and SC as
The Bledsoe Family singing and spreading the
good news of Jesus. Somewhere around
1965 my Daddy answered the call to preach
and became an evangelist. We continued to
sing and travel until in 1969, Daddy founded
a small church that had been abandoned
that was less than 10 miles from our home.
Daddy had a dream about finding this
church and he never stopped until he found
it. Welcome View Baptist church would be
our home for the next 10 years. The church
grew from 1 to over 100 members in
Daddy's 10 years of service. The church is
still there today and is a light to our
community.
After Daddy decided to step down as pastor
from Welcome View he talked with a owner
of a country radio station in our area and
asked him if he would consider changing
the format of the station to all Gospel
music. The owner told him if he could get
churches and people in the area to sign a
petition saying they would support that he
would agree to changing the format to all
Gospel. I can remember going with Daddy
to area churches and leaving petitions with
their congregation to sign. In less than a
month Daddy had his 1000 signatures and
that station is still going today and is still a
full gospel station today! You see.... if God is
in it and He leads you to it..... He will bless it
even when you are no longer here.
1986 right after I had completed my Early
Childhood and Elementary Ed. degree from
Appalachain State University. He was so
proud that I had finished my degree and
would become a teacher in the Fall of 1986.
Oh how I miss him but I know we will meet
again one day and never have to say
goodbye. Daddy is the reason I do radio
today and every time I sit down behind the
controls, I feel his spirit here with me. Daddy
taught me to have faith and always seek
God's will in everything you do and that there
is NOTHING God can't do. So thankful I had
the Daddy that loved God and I'm SO thankful
for the family God gave me!
Greg's story is different but you will still see
God's hand in every aspect of it.
My biological Dad's name was Wayne
Stonestreet. Daddy left me and and my Mom
when I was just four years old. I can
remember crying and begging him not to
leave. I never saw him that much until later in
life. My Mama remarried when I was around
nine years old to a man who became a
second Dad to me. His name is Jack Journey. I
finally had a family again and we had several
wonderful years together.
During those years my Mom got very sick with
cancer and passed away when I was only
twelve years old. I was forced to grow up fast
and learn to do things around the house. I
did
not know my Dad because he had not been
around, so Jack adopted me and treated me
as his own. I have a half sister and a half
brother who I love dearly.
I had a lot of anger towards my biological
Dad but after a while with God's help I
forgave him. In the years that followed my
biological Dad and I became very close and
he became a wonderful Grandpa to our son
Ben.
I want to thank my adopted Dad for stepping
up and being the Dad that I needed. I want
to thank God for bringing my biological
Daddy back into my life and allowing us to
become close in his lasts day here on Earth.
I feel like Ben touched my Dad and he saw
through our lives something that he needed.
Dad passed on October 27, 2001 (on Ben's
7th birthday) from a brain tumor. A few
months before he passed he accepted
Christ as his personal Savior and he said to
me "For the first time in my life I can walk
down the hall and go to bed and not have to
worry about where I would be if I didn't wake
up." Praise the Lord for the peace he had
when he passed!
My adopted Dad is living and is a good
Christian man and I love and appreciate
everything he did for me. I hope I can be half
the Dad to Ben that they were to me. A
reminder to all..... Don't let anger and things
that have happened in the past stand in the
way. Ask God to help you forgive and love
the people God gave you.
