This free event includes guided tours, displays, a look at the <strong>County</strong>’s historical<br />

artifacts and heritage collection and light refreshments. Check out the staff<br />

and Council areas and learn about the many cultural and heritage aspects<br />

included in the building’s design. The Port Maitland ‘On the Grand’ Historical<br />

Association will unveil a portrait of Sir Frederick <strong>Haldimand</strong>.<br />

If you’re not able to attend the Open House, visit the Administration Building<br />

(HCAB) during regular business hours. Fully accessible and displaying items<br />

from the <strong>County</strong>’s historical and museum collections—including the recentlyinstalled<br />

Heritage & Culture TV (HCTV)—HCAB is a welcoming and efficient<br />

Back by popular demand, the GEOTOUR is an<br />

outing ideal for any resident, visitor or family that<br />

likes the challenge of an outdoor scavenger hunt!<br />

Launched in 2021, the tour takes you throughout<br />

the <strong>County</strong>’s parks and nature while testing your puzzle-solving skills. More<br />

than 20 geocaches have been hidden in public spaces throughout the <strong>County</strong>.<br />

Your mission—should you choose to accept it—is to find all the geocaches<br />

(or as many as you can) to receive a specially-designed ‘Out and About in<br />

<strong>Haldimand</strong>’ GeoCoin.<br />

and economic growth;<br />

SELKIRK PARK’S MEMORIAL GATES, century-old, recently restored and<br />

honouring local residents who served and gave their lives in various wars.<br />

With more than 40 kilometers of off-road pathways and trails for walking,<br />

running and cycling and hundreds of kilometers of on-road cycling routes,<br />

we have what you’re looking for whether it’s a short, scenic stroll or a multikilometer<br />

hike or day of cycling.<br />

Afternoon Tea Leaf Reading: Talk and Demonstration<br />

Through the centuries tea has grown into a multi-billion dollar<br />

Welcome to our laboratory for some non-stop action and<br />

investigating and experimenting with things that ring, pop, fizz,<br />

buzz, are gooey and glow in the dark.<br />

Wizard Week<br />

Do you believe in magic? We do! Each day, with the help of their<br />

magic wands, junior wizards will concoct potions, make things<br />

disappear and reappear and much more!<br />

Art in the Square<br />

A busy week of hands-on exploration and imagination. Each<br />

day, works of art will be created using new tools and techniques:<br />

paper- and print-making, drawing, painting and sculpting.<br />

To celebrate the week’s accomplishments, young artists will<br />

showcase their pieces in a special exhibition in Edinburgh<br />

Join our traditional, weekly day camp where we explore<br />

our creativity, engage in movement, build lasting<br />

weekly theme. Campers will be in groups of children<br />

of similar ages and will enjoy active games, songs,<br />

practice and games—both indoors and outdoors—while<br />

also developing other important attributes of sport<br />

such as team building, cooperation, sportsmanship<br />

NEW THIS YEAR! Wellness Camp is all about exploration<br />

of the self and a look into holistic well-being. With a<br />

focus on nature, personal growth and self-expression,<br />

this camp will include yoga and movement, mindful<br />

meditation, trail walks, journaling and art. Campers will<br />

also enjoy other summer activities such as swimming,<br />

games and special events.<br />

Young Leaders Program $163.23<br />

Two Weeks | 8:30 am – 4:30 pm | Ages 11-15 years<br />

If you are ready to challenge yourself and grow through<br />

responsibility, then Young Leaders (YL) is the summer<br />

program for you. With sessions on communication,<br />

teamwork, identity, professionalism and goal setting, the<br />

program will challenge participants to develop personal<br />

leadership qualities. Activities focus on building strong<br />

leadership skills, self-confidence and active listening,<br />

which are the first steps to becoming a great leader.<br />

Through the two-week program, participants will have<br />

the opportunity to earn Babysitting and Emergency First<br />

Aid with CPR B certifications<br />

Sign In/ Sign Out<br />

In order to ensure the safety of program participants, a<br />

parent or designated caregiver must sign participants<br />

in and out. A note may be provided for older campers to<br />

walk/bike home.<br />

Absent From Camp<br />

If a camper is going to be absent from camp,<br />

please let us know by calling 905-318-5932 ext. 8383 and<br />

leaving a message or by emailing<br />

recreation@haldimandcounty.on.ca.<br />

What to Bring<br />

• Please send participants to camp each day with<br />

sunscreen, a hat, bathing suit, towel, lunch, snacks and<br />

refillable water bottle. Dress for movement and crafts!<br />

• To ensure the safety of all participants we request that<br />

all lunches are peanut free.<br />

• Leave your electronics at home.<br />

Camper Code of Conduct<br />

All participants must adhere to the Camper<br />

Code of Conduct, which is posted on our website<br />

haldimandcounty.on.ca.<br />

Subsidy<br />

<strong>Haldimand</strong> <strong>County</strong> accepts third-party funding for<br />

camps. Prior to registering, please contact us for<br />

information about subsidy.<br />

Inclusion Opportunities<br />

Camp programs offered by <strong>Haldimand</strong> <strong>County</strong> provide an<br />

inclusive environment. Inclusion Counsellors are available<br />

for participants who require additional assistance;<br />

however, spaces are limited. Please note that some<br />

limitations do exist. Parents/guardians will be required<br />

to complete an inclusion form at the time of registration;<br />

confidentiality will be maintained.<br />

Program Cancellations and Refunds<br />

There will be no make-up days/classes due to<br />

absenteeism, weather, emergency or maintenance<br />

closings. Refunds will be granted only when <strong>Haldimand</strong><br />

<strong>County</strong> cancels a program or a participant is<br />

medically unable to participate in a program (medical<br />

documentation is required). Extenuating circumstances<br />

will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by <strong>County</strong><br />

staff; a credit may be applied to your <strong>Haldimand</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />

account which can be used for future registrations or<br />

facility rentals if prior notice has been given.<br />

Swimmer 1<br />

Swimmer 1 is for participants who are 5 years of age or older. These beginners will become comfortable jumping<br />

Swimmer 2 Shallow is for participants who are 5 years of age and older, who have completed Lifesaving<br />

Preschool or Lifesaving Swimmer 1. Participants will perform the following skills in shallow water, jump into chest<br />

deep water, front and back float (3 - 5 sec), surface support (10 sec), recover an object, submerge and hold their<br />

Swimmer 2 Deep is for participants who are 5 years of age and older, who have completed Lifesaving Swimmer 2<br />

(Shallow). These advanced beginners will jump into deeper water and learn to be comfortable falling sideways into<br />

the water wearing a Personal Flotation Device. They will be able to support themselves at the surface without an<br />

aid, learn whip kick, swim 15m on their front and back and be introduced to flutter kick interval training (4 x 9 - 12m).<br />

Swimmer 4 is for participants who have completed Lifesaving Swimmer 3. These intermediate swimmers will<br />

bag of tricks includes the completion of the Canadian Swim to Survive Standard. They’ll cap it all off with front<br />

Swimmer 5 is for participants who have completed Lifesaving Swimmer 4. These swimmers will master shallow<br />

to underwater swims. They will refine their front and back crawl over 50m swims of each and breaststroke over<br />

Swimmer 6 is for participants who have completed Lifesaving Swimmer 4. These advanced swimmers will rise<br />

to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills including stride entries, compact jumps and lifesaving kicks like<br />

eggbeater and scissor kick. They’ll develop strength and power in head-up breaststroke sprints over 25 m. They’ll<br />

Junior Lifeguard Club (JLC) offers a unique aquatic<br />

alternative for those kids who love the water and who<br />

want more ‘lessons’.<br />

JLC keeps kids interested and active in aquatics.<br />

JLC stresses fun and aquatic skill development<br />

based on personal-best achievement. JLC members<br />

work to develop and improve swimming and other<br />

aquatic skills with emphasis on swimming skills,<br />

lifesaving skills, lifesaving knowledge, leadership &<br />

teamwork, community education, competition and<br />

Bronze Medallion challenges the participant both<br />

Emergency First Aid<br />

Emergency First Aid includes CPR-B certification.<br />

knowledge of first aid principles and the emergency<br />

for external bleeding, heart attack, stroke, wounds<br />

and burns.<br />

Bronze Cross<br />

Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving<br />

to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for<br />

responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates<br />

strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and<br />

begin to apply the principles and techniques of active<br />

surveillance in aquatic facilities.<br />

Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of<br />

teamwork and communication in preventing and<br />

responding to aquatic emergencies.<br />

Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced training<br />

in the Lifesaving Society’s National Lifeguard and<br />

leadership certification programs.<br />
